Absolutely know Be My Baby is one, Ronettes
I bet Johnny B Goode is another since the Boys borrowed heavily from that one.
And I'll guess Penny Lane

I know he's a big fan of Phil Spector, and he liked the Beatles' Rubber Soul album.

Six to go 1. Beatle song 2. Rolling Stones (not an obvious one) 3. American Composer 4. The four Freshmen (though I think Nate King Cole did it better) 5. Bill Haley and His Comets 6. Bob Dylan

Ad 5. "Rock Around the Clock" Ad 6. "Mr. Tambourine Man" Correct The Beatles song did not make Rolling Stones top 10 Beatle’s song list or many other top 50 Beatle lists, but it’s a special song

I'll try with the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. In both cases there are less known songs, if I understood correctly.
The Beatles:
"In my life" "A day in the life" "With a little help from my friends" "Norwegian wood"
The Rolling Stones:
"Brown sugar" "Wild horses" "Dead flowers" "Factory girl"

Designed for a weak singer) Stones tune is not one of their popular ones Described by someone as “ as a weird, cool experiment that shouldn’t have worked but somehow did”

The American Composer’s song was written in the 1900’s 1900? Could you tell us whether it was composer of serious music(like Charles Ives or Aaron Copland) of more lighter one(Gershwin, Berlin, Kern etc.)?

Probably this composer's composition is this instrumental one. "Rhapsody in blue"(George Gershwin) would be my first guess, but I think it was composed later than in 1900s ...

Waggin re the Stones: Jigsaw Puzzle or She's a Rainbow Not either of those. It was released in 1967 The other song was released in 1955 The group was a American male vocal quartet that blends open-harmonic jazz arrangements with the big band vocal group sounds of The Modernaires, The Pied Pipers, and The Mel-Tones, founded in the barbershop tradition.

2 more Stones shots: Sittin on a Fence, Back Street Girl
(I'm keying on the relative obscurity aspect. Do you know if it was a single or an album cut?)

You've led to the album and narrowed the track list, but the song is still a guess ... I'll try "Who's Been Sleeping Here?" ... then maybe "All Sold Out" or "Miss Amanda Jones". Trying to think of something with the kind of musical interest that might appeal to a Brian Wilson. (I'm enjoying recalling all of these songs.)
