Wright, Yanks seek series win over O's New York (65-42) at Baltimore (50-61), 1:35 p.m. ET By Michael Gluskin / MLB.com
The Yankees wrap up the first leg of their six-game road trip Sunday with the series finale in Baltimore. The two teams have split the first two games, and the Yankees have won five of eight against the Orioles this year. New York has not lost a season series against Baltimore since 1997.
Before being shut out Saturday, the Yankees had scored at least five runs in their last 12 games. New York has won nine of its last 11 games, putting them atop the American League East. The Yankees are 29-23 on the road this year and 24-13 in day games.
Jaret Wright is coming off a victory against the Blue Jays, when he pitched five innings and gave up one run and five hits. He threw more than 100 pitches in that start for the first time since September. Wright had a no-decision in an outing at Baltimore in June, and is 2-1 lifetime in six starts versus the Orioles.
Rodrigo Lopez has won three of his last four starts, and threw 7 2/3 scoreless innings in his last outing versus Seattle. Since the All-Star break, Lopez has a 3.47 ERA, after posting a 6.77 mark in the first half. Lopez is 6-6 lifetime against the Yankees in 18 games.
Since the July 31 trade deadline, when the team acquired Bobby Abreu, Craig Wilson and Cory Lidle, the Yankees are 5-1. Abreu, who got the team's lone hit Saturday, is hitting .333 in five games and Wilson is batting .312 with three RBIs.
Pitching matchup BAL: RHP Rodrigo Lopez (8-11, 6.20) Lopez won his only start versus the Yankees this season, giving up four runs in 6 2/3 innings.
NYY: RHP Jaret Wright (7-6, 4.57) Wright has not thrown more than six innings in any of his 18 starts.
Player to watch Alex Rodriguez is 12-for-34 (.353) in his career against Lopez, with four homers, 10 RBIs and eight walks. Rodriguez is 1-for-8 through the first two games in Baltimore.
