He will cost big bucks. $20M Posting Fee paid in full. Plus salary and Arbitration eligible after two seasons. If he’s a successful two way player he could ask for $30M or more in Arbitration.

Hideki Matsui ML debut: at Toronto
Masahiro Tanaka ML debut: at Toronto
The Yankees start 2018 at Toronto. If they sign Ohtani, it's possible that his ML debut could also be there. Just a fun thought.

Wear # 33 with the Yankees? Maybe Boomer will loan him the Babe's cap.

Given those amounts, Yanks should be the clear favorites. Any tax advantage in tx should be overcome because 1) it's texas and 2) NY has the better team on paper, more tradition and more exposure for endorsements and such. Hope it plays out that way.

Tax difference won’t be an issue. Yankees will pay him his full signing bonus before New Years while he still resides in Japan.

I asked Shohei Ohtani this year how he will measure success in his @mlb career. He told me, “All the milestones and awards are important, but what I will evaluate the most is, when I retire, how much applause I get from the fans, how much love I get from the fans.” @mlbnetwork
Ohtani mentioned geographic location and the role he’d have, as key considerations in choosing an @mlb team. “I want to talk with as many people in the organization as I can, and see if it’s the type of place I want to play,” he told me. @mlbnetwork
When I asked Shohei Ohtani to name his favorite players, he first mentioned Ichiro and Yu Darvish. Then he said he likes to watch @bharper3407 and has studied video of Harper at the plate. @mlb @mlbnetwork
Ohtani’s father played baseball at the industrial league (semipro) level; his mother played badminton, also up to the industrial league. Who’s the better athlete? “Mother,” he said. “I can’t beat her in badminton, to this day.” @mlb @mlbnetwork

Otani wasn’t ready to set any sort of specific goal for himself, saying MLB would represent a new frontier.
“I’ll be in a new environment,” he said. “If I had stayed here next year, having played here for five years, I would have something to say. But I will be a new player and I haven’t played through a season there. I don’t think I can succeed there by just staying the same, so I would like to keep improving.
“That’s the path you have to walk in the process of becoming the best player in the world. That’s the ultimate goal for a baseball player, so I would definitely like to experience that.”
While he may not know exactly what to expect, he’s been able to glean bits of advice and information from a few sources already.
“Well, I’ve trained with (Yu) Darvish in the offseason,” Otani said. “I’ve also been playing with Kensuke Tanaka,” he added, referring to the Nippon Ham infielder who spent 2013 in the San Francisco Giants organization and appeared in 15 MLB games. “Kensuke has constantly been telling me things about the major leagues. I also got a call from (Norichika) Aoki after I decided on an agent.”
Otani revealed earlier in the week he had chosen Creative Artists Agency to represent him. The agency also represents Japanese major leaguers Aoki and Junichi Tazawa.
Otani grew up watching various Japanese players compete in MLB games on television. His own desire was sparked when the first person to scout him in high school happened to be from an MLB club. More followed, from both MLB and NPB, and the Hanamaki Higashi High School (in Iwate Prefecture) star said he would move to the U.S. directly after graduating in 2012.
The Fighters risked their first-round draft pick on him anyway. The gamble paid off when the club ultimately convinced him to stay.

“As long as I have enough money to be able to play baseball and am enjoying baseball,” [Otani] says, “that’s all I’m asking for right now.” This is more than lip service: Ohtani is not exactly Babe Ruth’s equal in the Department of Sybaritic Living. Fighters sources say that Ohtani spends virtually nothing, lodging at the drab team dorms and reportedly living on less than the $1,000 a month his parents send him from his earnings. He takes team-subsidized cabs to games. He seems to spend mostly on fitness books and workout equipment. Depending on the sponsor that night, the Fighter Player of the Game will sometimes receive free bags of rice or salmon steaks or stalks of asparagus; Ohtani will happily take them, figuring it’s one less run to the grocery store.

Maybe Tanaka and Matsui have a spare bedroom. Or he can move in with Shingo Horie, team interpreter.
