Great choice !! One of the best defensive and highly respected catchers in his day. He knew how to manage the game and also deal with egos like Clemens and Oswalt.

it's hard to find fault in choosing a former catcher as a bench coach.
Do we have any coaches that speak fluent espanol?

The Yankees actually drafted Ausmus in 1987. Never played here though.

Good choice and a little competition on the bench for Boone.

New Yankees bench coach Brad Ausmus said that his style will be a blend of analytical data with traditional baseball information:
"Truth is, a lot of the data is extremely valuable. But so is experience. I put a lot of stock into decision-making that is based on data; this goes back to me being a catcher, when I used to do the scouting reports in Houston for almost a decade. It was based on data and then I would put it into play in the game.
"I found that the data was probably right 85 percent, but you have to use your eyes as well. It's not a vacuum out there. You have to use your eyes and your experience. I put a lot of emphasis on data, but it is not the entire answer to winning baseball games."

Brad Ausmus has been a bench coach/manager & worked in/been linked to front office jobs. Asked if he sees himself staying in dugout or moving to FO long-term & if he wants to manage again, he said he doesn't know where things will take him but he sees himself in uniform.
