Led the league in triples but had a slugging percentage less than 0.300 Almost correct. Change a little first part of your answer(not only triples).

Both were league leaders(or co-leaders) in extra-base hits department with a slugging average below .300 in a season.

Little supplement:
Roger Metzger and Rodney Scott - each of them has led league in triples with slugging average less than .300. Only they have accomplished it. But nobody in ML history has led league in doubles or home runs with such a slugging average. So both Metzger and Scott have lead league in extra-base hit category(doubles, triples or HRs) with SLG less than .300 too,and this is the answer I expected.
But, of course, my2cent's answer is correct too. Congratulations.

Nobody wrote a SABR article about either one of them

Nobody wrote a SABR article about either one of them Their ML careers and stats were rather unspectacular. Metzger lead league in triples twice, Scott once and it was their only claim to fame(apart from this I asked in question).

Metzger lead league in triples twice, Scott once and it was their only claim to fame(apart from this I asked in question). But doesn’t that make Scott a star? Both were very weak hitters, but often the SABR articles bring out interesting stories about the players. Metzger was in was in Bad News Bear movie. One of the SABR writers was assigned to write his bio. The same writer wrote Pat Kelly’ (not the Yankee’s Pat Kelly). He has a great snippet Kelly proposed to Weaver, “Why don’t you walk with the Lord?” Weaver answered, “I’d rather you walked with the bases loaded.”
