I never understood the Hicks or DJ contracts. It didn’t seem that anyone else wanted either one of them and the Yankees gave them long term contracts. I liked both players at the time of the contracts, but couldn’t understand why they were given long contracts. You’re trying to rewrite history.

If the River Ave Blues site was still active, I’d show you my posts. It seems like Cashman never saw this www.beyondtheboxscore.com/2014/12/1/7305741/mlb-baseball-player-age-curvesSure there are exceptions, but neither Hick nor DJ were phenomenal players that would likely beat the aging curve

The hicks trade was a steal and he came off a year where he hit 28 hrs and was huge piece of team his contract woulda been steal at 10 a year at that time only cf better then him in bb was trout ….nobody has a crystal ball … we traded a catcher who turned our border line player … hicks was top defender switch hitter power speed great arm high obp… contract made absolute sense …. Second guessers and I’m not personalizing it …. Imo it’s the only way some people sound like they know something ….

Are you saying you disagree with the aging curve?

Each should have been signed to a long term deal.

There were warning signs that DJ's bat had slowed when he re-signed, but Yanks had no choice. The offense was one dimensional and relied so much on him with his unworldly RISP numbers, they couldn't afford to let him go. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, he dropped off pretty quickly. Weren't those the years MLB was F'in with the balls too? Probably didn't help things.
Hicks contract was nothing by baseball standards. What, $10M/yr? The gamble was if he could stay on the field, which didn't pay off since he has 3 seasons over 100 games and only 1 after the extension. Obviously longer than desired but the overall dollars were never going to make or break the Yanks so worth the gamble at the time in my opinon. But did I just read he was the 2nd best CF in baseball? Wow, now that's a hot take.

I think that this board was in love with the DJ signing, and almost to a man thought the price was a steal.
I also think the board was as happy with Hicks, but I never trusted him. True, I incorrectly judged that we were losing a valuable piece when we got him for Murphy, but we were not loaded with catchers at the time.
If we want to start picking on Cashman "mistakes,' how about love for his approach to Volpe? It was Brian who called him and told him he had a real shot to start at short last year, when very few thought he was ready.

Or his “mistakes” getting Holmes and Hamilton. Of course the real mistakes are remembered more

DJ LeMahieu expects to begin a minor league rehab stint this weekend, possibly at Class AA Somerset. Says he’d need “probably less than 5” games to be ready to return to the Yankees lineup.

DJ LeMahieu said that an MRI taken last night showed a lack of healing and doctors were not comfortable with him beginning a rehab assignment. He is frustrated and hopes to be playing in 3-4 days.
