.220 / 10 HR / 36 RBI Martin"s stats entering 2011 All Star Game I'd take them, but I also believe that during the voting the ba was higher. Martin started out hot in April, but his numbers went down dramatically in May and even more in June. His overall numbers would have been better than they were as of the AS game, but they were on a steep downward trend during the voting.

His overall numbers would have been better than they were as of the AS game, but they were on a steep downward trend during the voting. We were all here last year, Dave. We know he hit .300 in April. We know he was hitting .220 by July 12. I think we can figure out that that was a decline. Still, hitting .265 down to .240 or so with significant home run and rbi numbers batting 8th and 9th in May 2011 represents an earned All Star berth. Joe Mauer, for one, was looking way up at those numbers.

We're not talking just a "decline" with Russell. He hit .293 with 6 HRs and 19 RBI in April. Great start. But in May, he collapsed to .200 with just 3 HRs and 7 RBI. And in June, it was .185, 1 HR, and 8 RBI. That's falling off the earth.

It is May 15. I voted twice for the All Star game last week, as did many of the 250,000-plus who attended ballgames in the Bronx.
My point is that Russell got a significant amount of his fan vote while he was hitting upwards of .260, with significant home runs and rbi's. Also, the people who voted in June even, not having seen what we have seen, in many cases were assuming what they saw in April, and what he did early in his career in LA, was more like what they could expect than the decreasing numbers they were seeing.
I don't remember many casting aspersions at the vote here in mid-June, do you?
YANKEE BASEBALL!!!

Getting back to main topic Montero. He has such great weight balance at the plate. More I see him I become more confident he will develop into a big-time hitter. Time will tell.

"Read my Lips", Russell Martin will come out of this slump and go on a tear that will put smiles on our faces. I will bring this up again in 6 weeks. OK it's been 4 weeks and I think he is coming out of his slump. 2 more weeks and into the groove, baby!!

Props to FJ - excellent prognostication - Martin has been really good offensively the last three weeks, culminating in yesterday's heroics.

Props to FJ - excellent prognostication - Martin has been really good offensively the last three weeks, culminating in yesterday's heroics. Careful. There are "numbers" out there that will make you doubt Russell actually won this game. The solid D and occasional power mean the catching position is not in bad shape. YANKEE BASEBALL!!!

Russell has been swinging the bat much better the last 3 weeks. We need him to keep it up since LF is contributing next to nothing sub .200 BA combined.
