does Joe keep sending Ben Francisco out there? He's never been a good hitter, but now he is a non-hitter. He has an OPS of .259, fer crying out loud! He's overmatched by the BP pitcher! ANYBODY else on the roster would be better against lefties. The SWB roster HAS to have several players who would be better. Heck, most of the folks on this board would be better. This may become my Queeg moment with Joe if he keeps putting him in the lineup.

He won't be celebrating Memorial Day with us, that's for certain.

He has had some nice swings. I thought he had an HR last night on that rocket.

He has had some nice swings. I thought he had an HR last night on that rocket. Agreed. Ben is what McGehee and Pearce were last year. He's a righty hitter with pop. That shot was nice, and I hope he straightens one out. I'm not saying he's a good fit. But he CAN do the job Joe is penciling him in for, for a short period of time.

I will admit I have not had the time to watch as many games as in the past (dropped my Extra Innings package --- $200? I don't think so, DirecTV.)......and so had not seen Francisco until last night.
This guy's set up in the batter's box.....and big cuts at everything regardless of the count.....combined with very little power and not much patience gets you an OPS of around .200. Those numbers are ok if you are an NL pitcher, not so good if you are an AL DH.
Man......if this is what it means to "get under the $189 mill threshold", it really sucks.
But I will take a nice come-from-behind win against a division rival.

Man......if this is what it means to "get under the $189 mill threshold", it really sucks. Doubt they'll be any public announcements but in the last few weeks the picture became clearer on revenue sharing changes going forward under the new CBA. It's a complicated formula that I won't take the time to bore anyone. Three teams have shifted upward in the big market / small market MLB classification. As a result the pot of extra sharing revenue available to the Yankees starting in 2014 has shrunk considerably. Therefore many are now believing 2014 will be business as usual in the Bronx. Right now they have a record $230M payroll. If you want to wager on our 2014 payroll take the over $189M.

I'll take the UNDER if Only to reset the "Tax" penalty for years over from 50% to 17% (or whatever it is.)

I'll take the UNDER if Only to reset the "Tax" penalty for years over from 50% to 17% (or whatever it is.) Luxury tax has never deterred the Yankees. Unless they can get some big money through profit sharing avoiding the luxary tax or really keeping to the absolute minimum would be desired but not mandatory.
