ESPN's Jordan Raanan reports "it seems likely" the Giants won't pick up the fifth-year option on QB Daniel Jones this offseason.
The Giants have until May to decide whether to exercise Jones’ fifth-year option, which would fully guarantee $21.3 million in 2023. Declining the option would put Jones in a contract year, while accepting it locks Jones in as the starter the next two seasons.
The Giants can make Jones earn his contract and franchise him next offseason, a move that would cost millions in cap space or a year of team control if they ultimately extend Jones. With Aaron Rodgers and Lamar Jackson extensions potentially resetting the market, the 2023 franchise tag for quarterbacks is projected over $30 million.
