He's a good player, but not good enough to be signed to a big long term contract. The O line for the Giants stills needs a lot of improvement, but Barkley has to do more as the running back in big games.

tough call, still too much of the 2022 season left for me to make a decision. i do think daniel jones has proven he can be the giants qb for a long time.

Jones made a big time throw in the first half to Slayton that was near the goal line, but he doesn't make many throws like that. I reserve judgment on both players, there's time for them to show they should be kept long term.

It is going to be a hard call as both Saquan and DJ have had such poor supporting casts over their time with the Giants. Often Barkley will have 4 or 5 runs of 0-2 yards and then he has a 20 run. Sometimes you need 5 to get a first down. That first down run doesn't happen often enough but usually there are two defenders making contact behind the line of scrimmage (not Saquan's fault). When you see the holes that Elliot and Pollard get from the Cowboys O line you wish our guys would get that. With DJ there have been so many dropped passes, sacks and receivers not open it drives me crazy. Bottom line, these will be hard decisions to be made at seasons end. I hope we can rebound and bring out the best in these players this season and years to come. I am tired of rebuilding.

According to NFL insider @mikegarafolo, the Giants would be open to retaining Saquon Barkley at slightly above $12M per season but if he wants McCaffrey money at $16M per year, he doesn't think it'll get done.
I think that's exactly how the NYG should approach this.

John, Is there any compensation if we lose Barkley to free agency?

John, Is there any compensation if we lose Barkley to free agency? Possibly. NFL has a complex formula in awarding compensatory draft picks.

I wouldn't pay him $12 million a year. That sounds like way above what the average running back makes.
