How many cover songs are better than the original?
Many people say that Jeff Buckeys remake of ‘Hallelujah’ was better than Leonard Cohen’s, but I till still like Leonard’s the best.
Not sure anyone can disagree that Sinead O’Connor’s ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ is better than Prince’s.
And of course there’s Judy Collins’s rendition of Joni Mitchell’s “Both Sides Now” that my mother thought was better than the original (though she admitted Joni’s last version is the best.

One that immediately comes to mind is Hendrix’s All Along the Watchtower. Incredible where he took Bob’s song!

Jimi's rendition of Like a Rolling Stone is pretty cool, too.
Speaking of Dylan covers (which can be an entire thread on its own), I like the Guns & Roses version of Knocking on Heaven's Door.

Dylan was a musical genius, but IMHO not a good voice.

I like Van Halen’s version of You Really Got Me and Pretty Woman more than the originals. Jimi Hendrix’ version of All Along the Watchtower is waaaay better than Dylan’s version IMO. On the other side, I can’t stand Five Finger Death Punch’s covers, and Disturbed’s version of Sound of Silence is an abomination IMO.

Oh I like Manfred Mann’s version of Blinded by the Light much more than Springsteen’s.

I never understood Bob Dylan's popularity. That said, I like Letters to Cleo's version better than the Cars' "Dangerous Type".

I never understood Bob Dylan's popularity. That said, I like Letters to Cleo's version better than the Cars' "Dangerous Type". He was a great songwriter and even a drunk guitar player at a college coffeehouse sounded pretty good singing his songs. Why did they call it a coffeehouse? I don’t remember them serving coffee
