The odds of MATT SMITH's chances of making the Yankees' bullpen next season has gotten even better. Smith pitched well in two appearances despite throwing 40 something pitches in 8 batters in his first apperance on Wednesday. On Saturday, with the USA clinging to only a 1 run lead, Smith came in the 7th and pitched two perfect innings (4 Ground outs, 1 Fly out and 1 K). Smith didn't allow a run in 3 1/3 total innings and struck out 5 batters. It is safe to say that Smith will get a long look in ST.
STEVE WHITE got the win against a solid Panamian team by going 5 innings, allowing 6 hits, 2 runs with 6 Ks. It didn't look good in the beginning where White was bombed and hit hard. After recovering from DL, White started to pitch strong towards the end of the season and Fall League baseball...White will probably begin the season at Trenton again.
The Team USA was perfect 5-0 and will play in Havana.
