Anyone know the progress on this kid. He is another SS propect from Oklahoma (who was/is destined to play CF). How did he finish up last year? Did he play and how did he do in the AFL? When will he be Bronx bound? 07, 08, 09? Hey, he was Danian's first pick and he /we passed on the relief kid from St. John's who came up with Bawstin last Sept! ;D

CJ Henry--SS. Gulf Coast League Yankees (Rookie League) Born 5/31/86 bats RH Hit .249 in 48 games. 9 doubles 17 SB 11 errors. I don't think he played in the AFL. Not a bad year for a 19 year old. Was 2nd on team in runs and steals. Not sure when he will be moved from SS.

Thanks. Couldn't think of his name! Very important IMHO that CJ makes it (and big too) in 2-3 years since we passed on the St. Johns relief guy (already in the majors with bawstin). Damien O's first -----first pick too !!!!!!!! ;D

He will be moving to another poition....but I was encouraged by the 11 errors....our SS at Staten Island (though it is a longer season) had 28 errors....and I have to remember Jeter had tons of errors initially in the minors....17 steals in 48 games is excellent.

Haven't see that CJ is moving elsewhere. Yes, Jeter made tons of errors in his minor league days. I believe he made 68 in one season. The key is to see how CJ performs the first full season.
The guy that gets my attention is 17 year old Jose Tabata, if he is really 17...Here is the guy that seems to be an all around type of player. Hits for average, 314, hits for power (3), steals (22 in 28 attempts), and strike out less than walks (14). Austin "Action" Jackson who many thought would bypass pro baseball to play point gaurd at Ga Tech is another solid prospect to look at.
We got some good ones at Staten Island as well, Eduador Nunez, Joshua Schmidt, Steve Schrorer just to name a few.
We're pretty loaded at low levels and the future looks strong. Lets just hope they stay healthy and continue to prosper...

Tough to say.
Catchers we have:
Wil Neives - Columbus but Cash liked this guy and believes he may get a shot. Explains why he's the only guy on the 40 man roster along with Posada. David Parrish - As we know, drafted him first round, didn't exactly panned out to be many thought would be. Was sent to AFL and is still a decent catcher. Never had a break out year.
Omar Santos - Trenton. Perhaps our best shot. Nice catcher, though his arm was over-rated imo. Solid hitter. On the small side but so was Pudge Rodriquez. Probably ready for Columbus but will he be the Clipper's main catcher over Nieves and Parrish? Not worth a backup, needs to catch often...
PJ Piliterre - I believe he was the first catcher drafted last year. Solid season at Staten Island and probably will begin at Tampa. Remains to be seen if he can make it up to higher levels.
Jose Gil - If you're looking for a guy that could be a Dioner Navarro caliber type prospect, perhaps we have to look at see what Jose Gil turns out to be. 18 years old switch hitter who had pretty good offensive stats at GCL. Probably will begin at Charleston and finish the season at Staten Island.

D23--Thank you. I hadn't seen any catchers that really stood out. Nieves seems OK, but with Santos being 4 years younger, I wonder how long before he is given his shot at AAA. To bad David Parrish weren't more like his dad.....we have had a lot of failed 1st rd. picks.....some of whom didn't even make it to AAA as Parrish did. That being said, he will have to make quite an impression to stay with the organization after this year. He will be a 6-year free agent after this season. Stinnett's backup job isn't written in stone.....Nieves could get a shot with a monster spring. I am surprised Parrish played winter ball instead of Nieves. We appear to have quite a logjam of outfielders ahead at AAA/AA. I've been checking out the minor leaguers and recent draft picks....there will be some good pitching (Hughes, James Cox) moving up soon. Cox seemed to hold up well at Tampa in his first year. The dreaded "unnamed Yankee source" claims we have been offered players "better than Juan Pierre" for Hughes. I am really looking forward to seeing Melky Cabrera, Kevin Thompson and Eric Duncan in their first full season at AAA. There should be a lot of competition in the AAA bullpen as well. Alas, we appear to be without the services of Tim Redding and Darrell May.... not a moment too soon. Hideo Nomo remains on the AAA roster for the moment, but Henn, DePaula, and, perhaps Jeff Karstens and Matt DeSalvo will hopefully change that. I'm sure CJ Henry will switch positions eventually, but it isn't necessary to do that for a while. It should be fun watching his development.

Pitching looks promising as you mentioned so as our loaded low level prospects.
I was disappointed to see/read Abel Gomez, a 21 year old lefty falling apart this past season. But I see Henn and DeSalvo has the two biggest pitching prospects right now because we desparately need a spot (some kind of assurance) for the 2007 season especially with Moose gone and RJ on his last year of his contract. Unless we get a decent pitching prospect(s) in return, ready for ML, it would be foolish to trade either one of those guys.
That being said, it is a crucial upcoming season for Henn and DeSalvo at Columbus. DeSalvo, I saw twice this past season impressed me in keeping the ball low though he doesn't have the pure pitcher delivery. But in his defense, he has only been pitching for roughly 5 years...When I see Jays' Towers pitch, I immediately think of DeSalvo.
It is pretty obvious that Henn draws interest from many teams. Like you and Boss and many here including Cash, he has potential to be a good #5 starter especially now in his 2nd full season after his TJ. It took Wang roughly 2 - 2 1/2 years to rebound to where he was last year, and hopefully we'll see positive results from Henn. Personally, I thought he was over-rated several years ago. Now, with the TJ, he may be a much better pitcher...
While I think Hughes is the best pitching prospect the Yankees have had in a long time and is probably the #1 prospect in the organization without a doubt, I can't see the Yankees rushing him especially since he was shut down twice last season and hasn't quite logged in enough innings to grant him a possible candidate for 2007. The key is to assure that he is healthy.
Add Tyler Clippard to the top pitching list this season...
OF is solid, I agree. One guy that I think will get the scouts attention is Tim Battle. Though he strikes out (way too many) especially for a lead off guy, he got some valuable skills, speed and defense. But with a sudden power burst he displayed last year (33 doubles, 11 triples, 16 HRs), he could be an attractive prospect this coming season. First he's got to find a way to cut down his Ks...

D23--Thanks for the info. Hopefully we will be smart about Hughes. He is young enough that it wouldn't kill us (and it would help him) to look for a 2008 or 2009 arrival.....2007 would be really pushing it. Battle looks very promising. We will have a logjam at RP and OF very soon. Looks like there are some promising closer candidates from AA on down. What are your thoughts on the relievers below the AAA level??
