stays in Vegas, so they say. We'll be getting a chance to test that one, as we head out tomorrow AM (and return very late on Mon.) to help a friend's wife throw a major surprise for the friend's 40th b-day (d**n whipper-snapper). I think that all he knows at this point is that he's heading out of town for 4 days/3 nights to someplace warm. He definitely doesn't know that we and another couple are going to be joining them there. While Vegas is not my first choice of a destination, his wife apparently was drawn by Cirque du Soleil, which we're seeing Sat. night, and the large number of excellent restaurants. On Sunday, we're going to rent a minivan and head out to Zion NP. We probably won't get to actually see any of the Yankees games in Oakland, but at least I'll be able to get the scores before going to bed. I know you guys will hold down the fort in the meantime.

Have a good time, DL...Vegas- the greatest city in the World...to NOT be with your wife!
Just kidding- have a good time. Won't see any Yankee games? Just wander through the sports book- one of the 45 TVs will have the Yanks on. Ask em to put it on the BIG TV...quite an experience. Ton of Yankee fans in vegas- for whatever reason...
Have a good trip...

I thought you were going to say the Florida Marlins were moving to Vagas. I still think they might make this move. Have a good trip.

Just so happens my folks are in Vegas right now celebrating my Mother's 70th, (tomorrow).
Not sure where they're staying but it wouldn't matter. Nobody I know, including me, can keep up with them anyway.
Have fun. Be safe. Get rich.

Ah Vegas. Just so happens my brother, Sue, and I turned a tidy profit on a wager on the Yanks to win it all before the '96 season.
Of course, it could never make up for the financial Titanic I experienced in that city on my first visit in 1973. Rumor has it that they have some shows there.
Have a great time Dave. Consider the Yankee beat covered.
YANKEE BASEBALL!!!

Other "activities" while in Vegas. I went their on business and made a side trip to the Hoover Dam/Lake Mead. Very impressive. Funny story about the business. At that time, I worked at Citibank (pre-dates Citigroup). The exec in charge of the credit card division decided to locate a processing center in Vegas but didn't want the Vegas address for customers to see when they pay their credit card bills. So they told him to make up the "post-office" he wanted and the processing center became known as "The Lakes, Nevada" instead of Vegas!!! I still remember that story. He (the exec) liked the usery rates in Nevada, South Dakota and Maryland and that's where he put all his processing centers!!!
Just a little Citibank trivia that I've always found funny. Go Yanks against the A's and Mariners.

I've only been there 3 times; once with husband (bummer); once alone (things lookin' up) and once w/ sister: had a BLAST! Actually, on that 3rd trip, the flight was overbooked and we got bumped up to 1st class...it only got BETTER from there. Have a great *safe* time.

Vegas certainly is different from when I was last there (about 35 years). Talk about giving the architects free reign. Geez. Had a great time - we saw the Star Trek Experience at the Hilton (an absolute must for any Trekkers - we were on the bridge of the Enterprise, fer cryin' out loud!!! (TNG Enterprise, FWIW). An extremely well done museum (largest collection of ST props anywhere) and rides. And a good lunch at Quark's, even had some Romulan Ale. ;D Later that day (Sat.) we saw one of the Cirque du Soleil shows (there are currently 4 in Vegas) - Ka. Stunning. An amazing amalgam of acrobatics, ballet, music, and story. Expensive, but worth every penny. On Sunday, we headed out to Zion NP, which is really gorgeous. One of those very unique pieces of nature that seem to be all over the western U.S. Took the shuttle along the Scenic Drive (no private cars allowed from April - October), got off at most of the stops and did a little hiking around. Took tons of pictures. We ate very well (too well - why doesn't everything[ that happens in Vegas stay there?). There's just way too many excellent restaurants there. It's become the new Mecca for celebrity chefs. We had our friend's 40th birthday dinner at Bobby Flay's Mesa Grill (in Ceasar's Palace), a creative take on Tex-Mex dining. All I can say is "WOW!" Although we didn't gamble much, we did lose a little. However, I did win the one bet I was able to get in on the Sports Book desk - the Yanks beating Oakland on Sat. Thanks, KB.

Welcome back DL, sounds like it was a great time. I was stationed at Nellis AFB just north of town for about 2 years back in the early to mid 70s, and my oh my yes how things have changed since then. No more Rat Pack, Elvis, Sands, or Howard Hughes....I would guess only Wayne Newton remains from that era.

Wayne Pukin' is still there, as is Barely Manenough. One of the hot "new" guys is somebody by the name of Clint Holmes. As far as we could tell from the billboards, his major claim to fame is teeth so white they can blind you. Oh, BTW, the surprise worked to a tee. Our friend was completely stunned when the 4 of us showed up at the door. He also didn't know (though he sort of guessed) that he was going to Vegas until they got to the airport. Kudos to his wife for keeping the secret so well.

Sounds like a great time, DavidL.
Speaking of the Star Trek Experience, a good friend of mine is the Borg for that show. He happens to be the Paramount-sanctioned-one-and-only-genuine Borg, and they pay him well for it. Hopefully, your resistence was not futile.
Welcome back, Friend!
