Friar just read where Manny Gluck, age 65, just died.
He was the longest serving souvenier vendor in Yankee Stadium history.
Anybody here know or remember the man?
RIP, Mr. Gluck.

WOW! Yeah, I meant to comment on this, Friar. As some of you may know, I was a vendor at Yankee Stadium from 1977-1981. I was a souvenir vendor and made some decent money walking up and down the steps and many levels of Yankee Stadium. It was a kid's dream job.
Anyways, Manny Gluck was the really tall guy that always worked the Gate 4 entrance. He had senority over everybody way back then. So senority got him the prime real estate to hawk Yearbooks and scorecards. Back then a Yearbook was $5.oo and a scorecard was $.75 with a pencil. We worked on commission, so I imagine Manny had a nice haul for just standing there while the rest of us peons had to hump 40 lbs. of Yearbooks and other assorted souvenirs up to the Uppest Deck.
I have no real stories to tell about Manny. Just that he was there for every game. I imagine he probably worked about 1 hour a day and cleared a coupla hundred bucks for doing so. With todays inflated prices and that commision I think Manny did quite well for himself. The only other thing I can remember is marvelling that the guy was a school principal, and that was a side gig. It just seemed strange to me at that time. But it makes all the sense in the world to me now.
One more thing about Manny. Over the years the guy looked like he never aged. He looked the same when I saw him last September as he did in 1977. I guess baseball really does keep you young.
R.I.P. Manny

No stories, I just remember seeing him there a lot. It seems like the guys who sell the scorecards by the main gates are always the guys who look like they've been doing it since I was a kid, or longer. Fixtures.
rest in peace, Manny.
