Scam alert. Are you getting phone calls by people claiming to be tech support?
Dear CNET members,
Happy Friday! This week???s topic from member Glen51 is not so much a traditional Q&A, but more of an alert to warn all unsuspecting members that scammers are on the loose! These perpetrators are making calls to people's homes disguising themselves as tech support from a well-known company, claiming you may be infected by a virus. They ultimately want you to give them access to your computer to fix the issue. And once they have access, who knows what will get compromised?
While these scammers haven't called my house yet, after reading through all our members' posts in the discussion, surprisingly, this is not only happening quite frequently, but also happening across the globe. The good thing is that unless you give these scammers access to your computer, your system won't get compromised, at least not from these people. So, please beware folks!
Many people have shared their experiences getting these type of calls and I truly enjoyed some of the hilarious comments of how some people either dealt or would deal with these would-be scammers if they called (listed them in the Q&A section). So read through all the comments -- where even member Glen51 swung by to post a thank you note to all here. And if you experienced any of these types of fraudulent calls or got scammed by one of these perpetrators, share it with us. After all, we are here to share the knowledge and the more we know about them ahead of time, the safer we all can be. Please spread the word on these scammers. Stay safe and thanks to all who contributed! Have a great weekend!
Cheers!
