Does anyone else think that they may be a little concerned about Posada's bat too? Flaherty hit and threw very well last night, and he usually gets Brown, which would be two in a row.
Jorge has not contributed much more offense than Bernie.
Just curious.

While I'm for the shakeup moves (for now), I too think that Bernie was better offensively than Posada. At least Bernie has kept a couple of more rallies going and drove in a key run last night. It appears that Bernie's hurt more so than we thought. Meanwhile Neives and David Parrish are doing quite well in Columbus just in case...

In addition to his bat, I'm concerned about Posada's arm. It seems he's thrown out very few base stealers so far. I'd hate to think he's in a steep decline at 33, but that's the indication so far. He's logged lots of innings behind the plate.

There is no injury to be concerned about him, at least reported? Yesterday he had a hit and a sac fly along with 2 K's. Haven't been paying a lot of attention to him but its true that he hasn't been much of an offensive factor so far. I hope he doesn't become another player to be worried abut, we have too many of those...

I'm not concerned, although Po may be.
Jorge's never been consistent with the wood. He's a streak hitter with the ability to carry a team during a hot streak. Don't look for Joe (loyalty is my middle name) Torre to look past Hip Hip for any length of time.
As for his arm, I haven't seen any indication of it slowing down. Dave knows runners steal on pitchers more than anthing else, and with multiple games already against the hustling and always running Devil Rays, and Birds, it should surprise no one Hip Hip's numbers in this area are soft.
I have seen however, his penchant for nonchalonting pitches out of the strike zone return. After a few years of serious improvement in this area I would hate to see a return to old form.
Right now I'm chalking it up to all the newbies on the staff, and a hard throwing lefty contained therein.
But! I'm always watching.

FWIW, I haven't seen a problem with his defense either. But he's got the one home run with 10 rbi's, and I remember that coming (a three-run jack) in a game we already had in the bag. I also remember him not running on what should have been a double off the rightcenter field wall that he thought was gone and ended up a single. As I recall it cost us a run because a followup Crosby grounder became a double play so the runner on third did not score.
Hey, I'm not trying to jump on Jorge, but if a Bernie slump that reaches May is a concern, Jorge's spot in the order hasn't been very productive either. And that trot to first is indicative of someone who may need a little shaking up.
Regardless, the use of Flash (the catcher) last night was curious. It CAN be explained that Jorge was needed at DH. But that may not be the only reason.
