Now there's a surprise! I can't believe Cashman won't extend a contract that has four years left on it!

the nerve on that Cashman? Where does he get off allowing a 4 year and $100MM contract stand un-extended? ESPN right on the cutting edge with this reporting. Maybe now they can get back to detailing what DMAT did after he scratched his @$$ on his off day.

Would it be fair for the Yankees to talk contract with Alex and not do so with Mo, Posada and Abreu? I guess not, so why would they do so with the best player in the game if they haven't done so and will not do so with the best reliever ever? When the right time comes and the Yankee Org. feels is right and that they are better with the signings they would make, you can bet Cashman will do it...

Now that both sides have dug in......a HUGE (season-long) DISTRACTION has been created ((( Give the guy an extension or trade him ASAP ....so we can concentrate on enjoying the game between the lines !!!!!!!!!!!

This just seems like a gigantic NY media creation. AROD SAID: I love New York and want to stay here. CASHMAN SAID: WE want him to stay and don't think we need to extend a guy already under contract. NY MEDIA SAID: AROD hates NY, Teammates HATE AROD, AROD WILL LEAVE. If it is a distraction you're right, rog...sign him or deal him...but if it is just a NY media created distraction and the parties aren't bothered by it I say we move on...and play ball with #13. If he leaves after we win it I have faith Cash won't let the situation go unattended.

When this Opt-out clause was first mentioned here some months ago I laughed and said there is no way A-Rod gets that kind of money from any other team. The Texas contract was a blunder of Titanic proportions. That was before the off-season market went craxy again this year. I think it's not out of the question some other team might give Boras the money he's looking for. I think it's a shame.

"...but if it is just a NY media created distraction and the parties aren't bothered by it I say we move on..." You know it is not going to be that easy AB........we all have come to recognize the fickleness of A-Rod's psyche so you know he is going to react everytime he is in a slump and the beat writers bring up the opt out clause.....Jeter will be asked about it and he will continue to take the "high road".......Cashman will need to keep denying any moves.......Torre wlll have to answer to criticisms that he is coddling A-Rod......and I bet you my bottom dollar, a new string of threads will be generated on this board everytime there is a scent of disharmony in this situation..... That is what I meant by the distraction. I was really peeved that the opt clause was even reported and wondered whether it originated from the writers or A-Rod or his pleasant agent !!! Personally (as if I ever met the guy , I don't care for A-Rod. Along with Sosa, he is one of the most disingenuous ballplayer around. Is he a good player ? No, he is a GREAT player and I would love to have a player of his skills on my team (I might be in the minority here, but I think they should have asked #2 to move to third).........as long as he just keeps his mouth shut and plays ))))))

Well, just for the sake of argument...two 'ifs'....[worst case scenario]
#1 IF A-Rod opts out this year and
#2 IF we don't win # 27 in '07..the one good thing we got out of this whole stupid deal is this...
Robbie Cano
If Soriano dosen't go for A-Rod....Cano goes in a trade somewhere as a minor leaguer...So look for the silver lining...

hallelujah, Bobby...Cano was on a list given to the Rangers to pick a nmae from (along with Sori)...they chose Alex Arias a SS instead of Robbie.

Can you imagine the 'love' Alex would be feeling if we saw Obi-Wan doing what he does in Texas? I can hear the Ranger front office now... saying..."Ooops"
