He is headed to the DL and not slated to make his first start til late April with a slight hamstring tear (grade 1- which is the slightest)...
JRem- can you say Jeff Karstens?

It sucks to have our most dependable starter on the DL for the start of the season. These are times when I am glad to have a descent pitcher waiting in the wings.
Before spring training I would have said Moose gets the nod, but after some great outings be Pettitte I think he should start opening day.

With Pettitte having a "tweak" (I'm coming to hate that word), I'd guess Moose now.
The timing of this injury to Wang is not good. The Yanks have to let him heal to 100% before he plays, even if we struggle out of the box (which of course we won't).
How many times do you have to hear it? "You can never have too much pitching."

That stinks...fortunately, like Michael Kay said, there's a good deal of off days in April, so the 5th starter won't be used that often anyway......
Still, we need Wang.

It's one thing not to need a 5th starter, it's another when it's your #1, and it's a hammy, which can be slow to heal (although Wang is young). Not good, but not the end of the world.
My guess is that if Andy has a good last outing and no back problems, he gets the nod on OD. Otherwise it'll be Moose.

This may not be such a big deal. Hopefully, Wang misses only 2 or 3 starts. While obviously that's not a good thing, it may help us sort out the Pavano-Igawa-Karstens-Rasner competition for the 4th and 5th starters. Of course, if this drags on beyond 2 or 3 starts, that's a bad sign.

I agree with DavidL that this is a slow healing injury and I would be very surprised if Wang was able to even make a start at the end of April. I'm guessing the first week of May and even then there will be a lot of nervousness. A pitcher is so dependant on his legs that the Yanks have no choice but to be very cautious. As for Petite I'm wondering what was on his mind doing squats with weights. My brother, nearly 70 yrs old three years ago was doing squats with heavy weights. I warned him about that, constantly, for about 7 years prior. The upshot is he hurt his back so badly and painfully (excruciating actually) that after 3 years ( and several surgeries) he still can't walk without shuffling one leg and likely never will. One keeps legs in shape by walking, running and other weight free exercises. Don't the strength conditioning coaches know that??? I sure hope no other pitcher on the staff does the same silly thing.

Backs are nasty, tricky animals. Great one day, a pile of crap the next. There are other ways to work the legs. Carl getting the start may be great for him and us. I'm sure he's going to get a loud ovation if he does get the OD start. Half for normal OD support, half for finally taking the ball. If he can give us 6-7 strong innings, walks off to a standing O, this could gear him up and carry over to a good year. Like RJ says.. GO CARL!!! GO YANKS!!!!

aris...squats are the single best free weight exercise you can do for your body. If they aren't done right you can really mess yourself up, but a squat exercises almost 70% of the muscles in your body.
Many experts and trainers say...if you have to do 1 exercise- do squats.

Well, Carl was going to get a lot of attention for his first start, might as well get it over with.
It's 162 games. We'll need 'em all to play well.
