The NY Post is campaigning a "now more than ever" need to get Roger Clemens back. Has Kevin Kiernan (the Post guy) been paying attention to what has been going on with the Yankees since last October? Throwing $20 million at Roger Clemens is the exact opposite of what the Yankees have been doing. Getting rid of Randy Johnson and Gary Sheffield for young arms is the direction the team has taken. Refusing to let A-Rod and Boras force them into a contract extension is the new Yankee way. Just because Wang may miss April (and part of May) and Pettitte has an achy back we're supposed to drop our drawers and take out the checkbook for Roger Clemens??? This so-called sports reporter maybe needs to start chasing Britney Spears around detox centers because he clearly isn't following the NY Yankees.
What I would like to see is the Yankees giving some of their young guys a chance to prove thamselves early in the season. We got the offensive guns to let these guys go out and pitch. Show us what they can do. You are never gonna know what you got until you see these guys in real game situations. What better time than April to do this?

Witht he way the pitching looks right now, why not? Jeff Karstens, Sean Henn, Scott Proctor, Darrell Rasner, plus a group of young arms that may be ready later in the year. Most importantly, Phil Hughes.

I agree Skinny...let Clemens go to the Sox- PLEASE!!! Then at the deadline we deal for whatever we need...April and May are a joke anyway- in 5 months we won't even remember Wang started on the DL. It is 3 to 5 starts!!! Let's say of those (worst case) 5 starts Wang woulda gone 3-1 with a no decision.
I'm betting Kartens can go 2-2 with a no decision...THAT IS THE DIFFERENCE OF 1 G*D D*AMN GAME!!!!

I say this in all seriousness: There are at least 15 Major League teams that would love to have Carl Pavano as their Opening Day pitcher.

"now more than ever?" Did I miss something? Is it July already and we're ten games out? Jeez, we haven't even played a meaningful game yet, and the media is writing us off. That's just nuts!... Oh, and screw Rog!... right in the ear. We don't need him.. I don't want him.

If Roger wants to be a Yankee he should be there in ST busting his $$$ just like everyone else. There's no way we should give this guy what he demands, for what, 3 months or 4? I'm with Skiny on this. We should go with our young arms and if we can't make it with what we have, we can always trade for someone that will be available. Please, no rocket, at least not on his terms!

And besides, Clemens won't be realy until at least May. About the same time My Wang is standing tall in full stride ;D Pavano is the OD starter, so what...though I wished I had made a couple vegas bets with this one. We ARE NOT IN TROUBLE!!!!!! The Vast Majority of MLB clubs Would LOVE to have our Problems and pitching depth this spring. Back away from the ledge everyone, we will be fine!

And besides, Clemens won't be realy until at least May. That was the same thought that popped into my head the second I saw the headline, and then purchased a different couple of papers. What does one possibly have to do with the other? We have lost Wang for maybe four weeks, maybe longer. Clemens won't be ready that quick. I'll give my reply to any intelligent questions regarding Wang's replacement I hear. Pushing Clemens now doesn't approach the mark. YANKEE BASEBALL!!!

We have too many young arms in this organization to need to force a Clemens signing...I agree with the title...PLEASE NO!

I think we are overloaded on ptching... we should see what our young arms can do...we might end up with another Wang who knows...no way should we go out and get that old fart.

yeah i got the post this morning and read that article.......it's silly......j-rem is right it's april we haven't played a game yet and suddenly roger is the answer because wang and pettite have come up with minor bumps in the road.......my opinion of roger has been documented here at the btb often enough that everyone knows where i stand on him......karstens or rasner would fill in admirably and with our offense we should be ok early on ........forget hughes!!!....he's not ready and the pressure to produce may be to much for a 20 year old .....we may not see hughes till september and that's perfect......if roger joins the team he'll help but he's not the roger clemens he once was so it's not like johann santana just joined the staff.....if our pitching situation is not improved by our own organization then this season will not end the way all of us hope ....it's time to trust what we see rather then what the papers tell us.....they've been known to exaggerate ......don't you think???

....it's time to trust what we see rather then what the papers tell us.....they've been known to exaggerate ......don't you think??? Maybe once or twice . Wang had a good throwing session today. Hamstring injuries are tricky, but, IMO, it's too early to rule out a mid-April return for Wang. The #5 starter will only be needed twice by April 21st. Let the media be pessimistic heading into April..... but I have too much faith in our team to join them.

I seriously doubt that Cashman is going to be influenced by the media, particularly an ignorant sports writer. As several have noted, Clemens would not be able to fill Wang's spot in the rotation, and Cashman's not going to give anybody $20M, certainly not for half a season. Karstens and Rasner are sure to be given chances.
I'm quite comfortable with Carl as the OD pitcher. I think everyone has forgotten that before his injury bug, he was a pretty good pitcher.
