Karstens left after 2 innings, reporting elbow stiffness.
The problem popped up during warmups (said he couldn't get loosened up) , but he said nothing to Guidry.
Karstens goes in for tests tomorrow.
Darrell Rasner is quietly having a strong spring (12 IP 1.50 ERA), and should now be the front-runner for the #5 spot , depending, of course, on Karstens' test results.
I preferred Rasner late last season, but was impressed with both. I hope Karstens is OK.

Yes, and Sean Henn did not distinguish himself in this one either.
Rasner or maybe Matt DeSalvo?

I hope that Kartsens' injury is nothing srious...I am a little worried that our injured starters did not get enough work in to feel comfortable starting the season.

What's that about never having enough pitching?
This is getting ridiculous. And everyone thought that Mussina and Pavano were the injury risks.
Hope Karstens' elbow is okay.

I can't believe this is happening. Just when I was getting excited about Opening Day... ughhh!

It's Pavano time.
Frankly, Friar thinks this is the perfect situation for Carl.
He can overcome alot with a solid start. He doesn't have to go 27up-27down -- just go out there and give us 6 strong!
A win would be nice, too.
The man has alot to prove, and he's been given the opportunity to do so. As Yogi once said, "when you get to a fork in the road, take it".
Take the fork, Carl! Take the fork!

Pavano can shine on Monday, it is his choice, have the tools or be a tool. Karstens was stupid not to say anything about his elbow. Doing that in 96 almost cost Kenny Rogers his career. So Yankee fans get out there on Monday and cheer him on. Boos will not help him or us.

Take the fork! Careful using "fork" metaphors, GF. As in "stick a ____ in him, he's done." I prefer to think Carl is just beginning. YANKEE BASEBALL!!!

Ok, how about "Carl, stick a fork in the Devil Rays, they're done."

The Yankee Stadium Opening Day crowd rallied the team to a 17-13 win over Oakland in 1998 when Cone had nothing and we trailed 12-7. Of course, that was before the fanbase became spoiled. Let's hope they (we) come back ready to root FOR a win rather than sit back and EXPECT one to be delivered this year. YANKEE BASEBALL!!!
