OK, we are a week away(thank god, well with these injuries, I dont know) but as for the position players, they seem healthy(fingers crossed), but here is how I would put the lineup together.
1- Damon 2- Cano 3- Jeter 4- Arod 5- Abreu 6- Matsui 7- Giambi 8- Posada 9- Menkevitz/Phillips
Cano is too good of a hitter to be a a number 8 hitter, like Joe has it now. He is a typical 2 hitter, and Jeter could bat anywhere so put him 3rd. Abreu could bat 3rd or 5th, and Matsui is a perfect 6th hitter. Giambi and POsada will give you some pop at the end of the batting order. I thnk this is the perfect lineup.

when abreu is ready he and only he will hit third.....jeets is the perfect two.....there will come a day when robbie will be featured in the lineup but not yet......in this lineup however, there is no bad spot to hit.....giambi with his obp will certainly hit higher .....no lower then 4-5....

Cano is to good to bat 8th, but he's not displacing Jeets from the #2 or Abreu from the 3 slot. He'll wind up in the 6th slot, later in the year. Later in Robbie's carear he'll be in the 2 or 3 spot.

Just switch Jeter and Cano.
Jeter is your prototypical 2nd place hitter. He is in a postiion to move runners with hits or scarifices. Cano has more power and is better off hiiting behind Jeter.

This is how I see it
1-Damon 2-Jeter 3-Abreu 4-ARod 5-Giambi 6-Cano 7-Matsui (although I have to say I'm not wild about 3 lefties in a row) 8-Posada 9-Doug/Josh/Andy/mystery meat
I think it's likely that Joe, in order to avoid the 3 lefties in a row, will bat Posada higher and drop either Matsui (unlikely) or Cano (likely). Robbie will hit higher later in his career, but he's still young, and Matsui has been productive alot longer.
But, wow, particularly when Doug plays, this is a heavily lefty lineup. The one thing that I didn't really put together is that Bernie's (and Sheff's) departure really changes the L-R dynamic of the lineup. All 3 OFs are lefties, as is the right side of the IF and the DH. Besides having Josh/Andy play 1B, what other changes, if any, might Joe make against lefty starters? Historically, and even more so last year, Jason does much less well against lefties. Matsui hits lefties as well as he does righties, although with less power. Historically, but much less so last year, Abreu has pretty pronounced platoon splits (so does Robby, for that matter). I get the feeling that Melky's going to be getting alot of ABs against lefties this year.

I have the same feeling also David, about Melky getting alot of at bats against lefties.

I like DL's lineup better...although I would switch Robbie and Matsui.

i think against lefty's posada moves up in the lineup.....i mentioned before that giambi and or doug will get the occasional day off against particular lefty's.....and between the 3 outfielders an off day against some lefty's will keep melky busy and everybody strong.....remember the amount of lefty's we will face will be far less then righty's......the only thing i'm a little concerned about is imo melky hit better from the left side and certainly what little power he exhibited came from the left side as well......so he will be forced to produce......i'm sure somebody will break down melky lh and rh to try and prove me wrong but i'll stick to my guns on this one......i wait for either poty or aris to straighten me out!!!

I don't like these lineups with Jeter batting third...I don't think he has enough power to hit in that spot...I think Abreu was made to bat third.

Gotta say, DL, that was the point I was hammering home every day when the rumors were rife that Dougy might be the way the Yanks were leaning. You can forget about trying to avoid 3 lefties in a row. Not possible, unless that is THE number one focus. I think Joe is open to adjusting lineups if they don't work. Robbie wil move up if it isn't working' (and he's hitiing .340). YANKEE BASEBALL!!!
