It all makes so much sense ... Machado at 3rd, Torres at 2nd. Baltimore gets Clint, Andujar and who else?

I'd rather go with Andujar and Torres at 2B and 3B. If Frazier gets traded, get a starting pitcher.

Generally, yes, but with a proven guy like Machado, who is only 25, you can lock up a position for many years to come -- close a revolving door.

What Gary Sanchez is focused on to help his catching issues By George A. King III What Gary Sanchez is focused on to help his catching issues LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — Gary Sanchez’s first step toward improving defensively has been to work on his body.
Matt Krause, the Yankees’ strength and conditioning director, is in the Dominican Republic working out Sanchez. According to a person with knowledge of the program, Sanchez has dropped weight.
While all of Sanchez’s defensive woes this past season weren’t weight-related, his midsection needed to tighten up and he had to lose weight in order for him to be quicker behind the plate and improve on blocking pitches.
The 6-foot-2, Sanchez appeared heavier than the 230 pounds he was listed at in the media guide.
After showing improvement defensively in 2016 when he caught the final two months of the season, Sanchez struggled mightily this past year when he was called out for his defense by former manager Joe Girardi.
Sanchez’s 16 passed balls tied the Dodgers’ Yasmani Grandal for the MLB lead and the 53 wild pitches with him catching were second to the Rangers’ Jonathan Lucroy who had 58.
Sanchez was tied for the most passed balls in the league despite only catching in 99 games. Had Sanchez qualified — he didn’t because he caught in only 99 games this past season — his 38 percent (23-for-60) success rate throwing out would-be base stealers would have been third among MLB catchers.
On the flip side, Sanchez hit .278 with 33 homers and 90 RBIs despite missing almost a month early in the season with a right biceps injury.
Sanchez is scheduled to be in the New York area this weekend and it’s possible he will get to meet new manager Aaron Boone, who said last week that developing a relationship with Sanchez will be very important.
“We’ve been texting back and forth, and my plan, my hope is to get together with him very casually at some point this weekend,’’ Boone said. “Again, I’ve talked to you guys a lot about relationships, and obviously, my relationship with Gary is something that I put a real high value on.
“Look, catcher in Major League Baseball, it’s a demanding position. It’s such an important position, and it’s a chance to impact like no other position on the field with things that don’t necessarily show up in the stat column. So just building that relationship, gaining that trust, and letting him know that he’s going to be very well-supported by me and our coaching staff. That relationship has already hopefully started.’’
With Josh Bard, a former catcher, the new bench coach, Sanchez will be working with Bard on improving defensively. Previously, Sanchez was tutored by Tony Pena, who was replaced as the first-base coach by Reggie Willits.
Boone officially announced Monday the hiring of Carlos Mendoza as the infield coach in charge of quality control. Bullpen coach Mike Harkey and hitting coach Marcus Thames are expected to return.

Machado started out as a SS, got moved to 3B to keep Hardy at SS. Manny's the better hitter, by far, but Hardy is probably better defensively. But the O's bought out Hardy's option, so Manny might get to move to SS in Balto. If the Yankees get Machado, they're likely to keep him at 3B (since there's no incumbent, and Didi is a better defender). But the O's would rape the Yankees in a trade. Not worth it, IMO.

No doubt Sanchez's workout has plenty of core work and high intensity interval training...makes a difference in mobility among other things. I expect him to be quicker this year....he better be.

Right, although whichever way Cash and Boone want to play them, I'm good with. My sense is that it would be as I suggested...Miguel has never played 2B in the minors and Torres has. Another point on Machado, talking heads suggest that Peter Angelos would NEVER approve a deal involving a player of that quality to his hated rival the Yankees. Let's face it...it would bury the Os chances in the AL East.

The Yankee formula is offense and a great bullpen There is no way IMO we can get Machado for two reasons........Os will insist on Torres and another top blue chip guy at least and Yanks won't do that...plus no way Os trade him to us or Red Sox. Word is he might go to Phillies...plus Os are in no hurry to do this might not happen til deadline. I think we need to forget about Manny.

IF the O's were to trade Manny within the division, the price would be sky-high - Torres probably would HAVE to be included, PLUS a package along the lines of Abreu, Green, Andujar, Frazier, and Florial (maybe only 3-4 of these). Angelos HATES the Yankees.

I'm ok with not getting Manny.....but we do have more to offer than anyone else.......and he is going to walk. I would bet that we only make a move if it can be done without including Torres. We are in a great position......if we make the trade, we have the best 3rd baseman in the world for the next 10 years and one of the most fearsome lineups in history......if we do not, we have a talented youngster in Andujar to man the position. Either way, it doesn't make or break our ballclub. But it could be trouble for Baltimore if they wait and get next to nothing.

Manny's not a FA until 2019. The O's are in no rush to move him. And it's always possible they will sign him. He's the kind of guy you build around.
