I thought he was a FA after this coming season?
I agree 100% that you get him if you don't have to include Gleyber. But good luck with that happening.

He's arbitration eligible after this year. He'll be 27 when he becomes a FA and anyone who signs him should know he'll want and get 10 years (maybe Seattle? )....which I think is crazy...but you all knew that already.

I thought both Harper and Machado were FA after the 2018 season. Kershaw possibly too.

According to baseballreference.com, Machado is arbitration eligible for 2018, but is a FA in 2019. Harper is signed through 2018 and is a FA in 2019 also. Kershaw is signed through 2020.

Think we're saying the same thing. So after 1 more season, in 2018, both Harper and Machado are FA.

If the O's can't (or won't because Angelos is too cheap) sign Machado, I suspect they'll deal him at the deadline, to extract maximum return. Do you do the deal if it doesn't have to include Torres, but means it's 4-5 other top prospects, e.g., Andujar, Abreu/Sheffield, Florial, Estrada, Adams? That's just too high a price, IMO.

I actually originally wrote but deleted "and has to be reasonable, so not the number 2-8 prospects either" but figured that kind of goes without saying.

Friar isn't a big fan of Machado. He's good, but he seems to draw a lot of attention to himself for the wrong reasons. For instance...take a gander at those gold shoes in the photo on the previous page. Ummm....why?
How about we get a good backup 1B, see what we can do at 3B, and spend some $$ on Alex Cobb?

I hear you guys ... I'm just saying that I think if Cash can get Manny without losing Torres, he'll do it. The O's will almost certainly have to deal Machado by the break next year, but the Yanks are shopping now, and they have lots of toys and goodies on their sleigh.

I don't think Cash is going to empty the toy box for Machado. He's very good, but he's not that good.

I think they all wore them...he had his bumps in his first couple years because he was a kid (the throwing his bat at someone comes to mind...) but he's AND hes just entering his prime. a STRONG case could be made to trade torres for him (machado is only 4 years older than torres and if torres is as good as Machado when all said and done we will be doing a dance...)

I don't think Cash is going to empty the toy box for Machado. He's very good, but he's not that good. Market for a player one year from free agency isn’t as robust asO’s likely looking for. Doubt they trade before mid-season.
