I personally thought Robbie Alomar was the best I've seen at 2nd. But he also dropped off a cliff early to mid 30s. Cano has a chance to pass him if he can put up a few more strong years. I know...if. AB is right though, you guys are mixing apples and oranges. Yes, Altuve is the best in the game right now, and maybe there are others who are better than Cano, but what does that have to do with being the best of all time? Comparing a guy who is 27 to a guy who has been around for a dozen years+ and is in his mid 30s doesn't make sense.

if cano attains those numbers u mentioned then he's hof'er no questions asked....as for your comparison to jeter....please jeter will make hof based on his leadership on championship teams and being the 3rd highest hit total ever and intangibles and being the best player in the moment.....there aren't many other guys in hof like derek jeter.....if robbie is to make the hof it won't be for anything other then stats.....just liked 95% of other hof'ers
i never ever used awards as a barometer .....i could care less about that.....

You can blame Alomar's decline on the Mets if you want, but he followed the trajectory of virtually all other top 2Bs - 34-35 (if not earlier), they just go down the tubes. He stunk after he got traded to the White Sox and was a part-time player for his final year.

That's right, 2nd basemen stop being able to play when they reach 34. Except Jeff Kent.

Derek Jeter was the “best SS in the game” for maybe one season of his entire career. Didn’t matter

Who here said Cano wasn't gonna be a HOfer? How about no one? Mikey- page 5 Cano IMO is well on his way to HOF been a terrific all around player....he'd have to fall off the earth starting this year to not make it. He's 35 and 3,000 hits and 400 bombs are no lock however. To get 3,000 hits he'll have to maintain the pace he's been on the last 4 years for 4 more til 39...to get to 400 HRs he'd have to exceed that pace of last 4 years. Might happen but no given. Having said that....I don't get hung up on the numbers. Though he's not the best now even the AL, he's been great a long time... he's been the premier 2B of his era...my benchmark maybe you noticed?.

Kent hated Bonds, but they both drank from the same 'fountain of youth'.

You asked who said he wouldn’t and told me “how about no one”... I agree if he “falls off a cliff” right now but I assume a gradual decline in power numbers...but that’s what makes a hall of fame career a hall of fame career- do it for a long time and amass more number than your peers

Which will make 2018 an interesting year for Cano. He definitely had a significant decline in BA, OBP, SLG, OPS, and HRs from 2016 to 2017. (Of course he had a career-high in HRs in 2016.) Was his 2017 a hiccup or a sign of decline? And will that decline be gradual or sudden (like most other elite 2B have had)?

Not the same
