Clue: He managed teams in 3 leagues. Are you including the Negro Leagues which now are officially considered part of MLB history?

Major League Baseball had just announced it was formally recognizing seven Negro Leagues as major leagues and adopting the statistics of the more than 3,400 players in those leagues from 1920 to 1948 into the official record.May 11, 2023

John McGraw?
1899 Baltimore Orioles NL - before reconstituted NL that reduced to 8 teams in 1900, 1900-01 Baltimore Orioles AL - before purchase by Devery and Farrell and move to Hilltop Park, and the next 33 years (10 pennants) with the NYG.
Whether right answer or wrong, it is an interesting link between McGraw and the Yanks. Managing the franchise that would become the Yankees in the years immediately preceding the move North, he could easily have become the player/manager of the Highlanders, instead of the Giants, rather than Clark Griffith. Then, per his career track, he could have stayed on throughout the Miller Huggins era -- not that I am displeased with the beloved Hug's results!
Instead, of course, the fateful annals record the deep-seated Bambino-era rivalry, practically within eyesight of one another across the Harlem River -- the start of the golden era of NY baseball.

Correct answer. A - Bob Ferguson - 9 teams B - Frank Bancroft - 7 teams Congratulations to my2cents. One explanation: 3 of the teams Bob Ferguson managed were in the National Associacion(1871-1875). There is a contoversy among baseball experts and historians whether this legue was major or not. There is often inconsequence in treating this league - isn't regarded as a major league, but stats from this league are added to career stats of players and managers. In this question I took the liberty to treat NA as a major league.
