"The first regular-season home run by a designated hitter was hit on April 6, 1973. Catfish Hunter was on the mound.
Who was the DH that took him deep?β"

I'm already impressed with the answer being I have absolutely no clue, but am expecting that someone will know right away. Haha

I was at Fenway that day when Blomberg became the first dh in history. He walked with the bases loaded in that first at-bat.

I was at Fenway that day when Blomberg became the first dh in history. He walked with the bases loaded in that first at-bat. So also the first DH RBI in history. File that one away for a future question, Rip. Back in the mid-60s, when the Yankees had high draft picks, our Hebrew friend was selected the overall 1st pick by the Yanks in the 1967 amateur draft. He still scouts for the Yanks around his hometown Atlanta area.
Ever met him, Lefty?

Yes, Norks, at the 2009 BTB Reunion game in the rain. Traffic was horrible, and Jacob let Paul and me out on River Avenue as he looked for parking since it was already getting close to game time. As Paul and I headed down River Avenue towards the Stadium, we passed Stan's Baseball World (I think I'm getting the name right), and Blomberg, Fritz Peterson and Oscar Gamble were sitting at a table. Blomberg was selling autographed copies of his book, "Designated Hebrew." I told him I already had the book and had read it - it had been a gift to me from my pal Diamond Jim - and we had a nice long discussion. I told him I was a Hebrew School teacher, and he told me how impressed he was by that. I asked him if he had become Bar Mitzvah as a 13 year-old kid, and he sheepishly admitted he had not. I offered to teach him and told him he should consider doing it as an adult. It was really kind of a cool moment for me.

Wow, Left, how cool. I kinda thought you had had an encounter (probably because you must have posted about it at the time), but I didn't know / had forgotten about the Hebraic exchange. Well done, Rabbi -- in your interaction with Ron, looks like you were were the designated Hebrew.
