Yankees MILB 3/29: Opening Day!
POSTED ON MARCH 29, 2024 BY ADMIN Notes:
C/1B Ben Rice appears to be starting his campaign in Somerset. The left-handed slugger hit .327/.401/.648 in 222 PA for Somerset last year, so hopefully this is temporary.
Scranton (1-0) (Defeated Buffalo, 12-8)
CF Greg Allen: 2-for-4, HR (1), RBI, 3 RS, 2 SB (2) Allen starts the season off with a lead-off home run. If they need a player in a pinch, he will be on the list of early call-ups. 2B Caleb Durbin: 2-for-5, 2B (1), 3 RBI, RS, HBP, SB (1) Durbin is somewhere on the MLB depth chart. He has speed and versatility. Last season, he stole 36 bases in 69 games (an injury kept him out of action for a while) C Carlos Narvaez: 2-for-4, 2B (1), SF, 3 RBI, BB Narvaez is often overlooked, but stop doing that. He is our #3 catcher, after all. LF Everson Pereira: 2-for-6, HR (1), 2 RBI, RS, 3 K Pereira didn’t have a great start to his MLB career but is in the #5 outfielder mix. DH Jose Rojas: 1-for-4, HR (1), RBI, RS, 2 BB, 2 K The veteran utility type hasn’t played in MLB since 2022. He is depth. SS Kevin Smith: 1-for-5, BB, K Smith has MLB experience but isn’t much of a bat. 1B Jordan Groshans: 0-for-4, RS, BB, 2 K Groshans was a Pipeline and Prospectus Top 100 prospect as recently as 2022 (Baseball America listed him in 2021). In 17 games for the 2022 Marlins, he hit .262/.308/.311 with a homer. They are taking a flyer here. 3B Jeter Downs: 2-for-4, 2 RS, SB (1), BB, K A main piece in the trade that sent Mookie Betts to the Dodgers, Downs has yet to live up to the hype. Like with Groshans, you take a flyer. If it doesn’t work out, you have some minor-league depth. RF Brandon Lockridge: 1-for-3, 2B (1), 2 RBI, 2 RS, 2 BB, 2 SB (2) I often talk about Lockridge having a Tim Locastro-like ceiling, and I still believe that. Will he ever be a Yankee? I don’t know – but, just like Oliver Dunn (former Yankees prospect who made the Brewers’ roster out of spring training), he can find opportunities elsewhere in the future.
RHP Will Warren: 0.1 IP, 3 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, 0 K, HR A tough first outing, but we’ll let it slide given the weather. It would be a surprise if he didn’t make his MLB debut this season. He would require a 40-man roster move. LHP Josh Maciejewski: 2.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K Maciejewski has been in the system since 2018, filling a variety of roles. Last year, however, he was a reliever for all 30 of his appearances. LHP Oddanier Mosqueda: (W, 1-0) 1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K RHP Danny Santana: 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 2 K I don’t even need to describe who Santana is – this line does it for you. RHP Ron Marinaccio: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K It would be great if Marinaccio got back on track. LHP Nick Ramirez: 2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K Ramirez is on the 40-man and could be on the shuttle this season.

Season starts on April 5th.
Hudson Valley (0-0)

Yankees MILB 3/31: Brandon Lockridge: 2 Hits, BB, SB
POSTED ON MARCH 31, 2024 BY ADMIN News:
LHP Nick Ramirez was designated for assignment after the Yankees promoted LHP Tanner Tully to the big league club. Just in case you missed the news, Tully replaces Clayton Beeter, who will now get regular rotation turns in Scranton until he is needed again. While I think Beeter’s future might be in the bullpen, there isn’t a need to put him there permanently now. Plus, who says I’m right? I am wrong more than I am right. I am just not afraid to admit it.
“Why Tully?”
It’s simple: 1. He has a starter’s pedigree, so he can eat innings out of the bullpen as needed; 2. He is expendable. If he has to pitch four innings out of the bullpen, he can be designated for assignment the next day. That sounds harsh, but for many MLB players, this is their way to earn some paychecks.
Not that Will Warren was available anyway, but you aren’t going to add him to the 40-man roster for this purpose.
RHP Yorlin Calderon was added to the roster with the need for an arm in Scranton. He made an appearance in today’s game. Further information is in his blurb below.
Ramirez being designated for assignment may seem like a surprise. In 32 games (40.2 IP) for the big club last year, he compiled a solid 2.66 ERA and 2.94 FIP. With the need for relief arms throughout baseball, I will be surprised if he isn’t claimed. However, I’ve been surprised many times before.
Scranton (2-1) (Lost to Buffalo, 4-3)
RF Luis Gonzalez: 1-for-5, 3B (1), RBI, RS, 3 K DH Caleb Durbin: 1-for-3, RBI, 2 BB, SB (2) Durbin is off to a 4-for-12 start with a pair of doubles, 4 RBI, and two stolen bases. 1B Carlos Narvaez: 0-for-4, BB, K The Yankees need first base depth. Narvaez played 16 games at the position last year and started a game today. As stated the other day, he is also the organization’s #3 catcher. CF Everson Pereira: 1-for-4, K 2B Kevin Smith: 0-for-4, 2 K 3B Jordan Groshans: 2-for-4, 2B (1) SS Jeter Downs: 1-for-3, RS, SAC C Josh Breaux: 1-for-4, K LF Brandon Lockridge: 2-for-3, 2B (2), RBI, RS, BB, SB (4) Lockridge is off to a 3-for-6 start with a pair of doubles, three walks, and four stolen bases.
RHP Cody Morris: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K The Yankees acquired the 27-year-old Morris from Cleveland for Estevan Florial. He owns a 3.41 ERA in 31.2 career MLB innings (13 games/5 starts) with a 32/18 K/BB. As expected, Florial made the Guardians’ Opening Day roster (just like when he was with the Yankees, he would need to go through waivers if they decide to send him down). LHP Oddanier Mosqueda: 0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 1 K RHP Yorlin Calderon: 3.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, HR Calderon is 22 years old and hadn’t pitched above High-A until today. In 2022, in his Low-A debut, Calderon tossed a 7-inning no-hitter. This could be a situation where Scranton needed an arm for a day, and he was readily available to provide that. Calderon doesn’t appear on many (if any) Top 30 lists, but he did receive a blurb on the Fangraphs list last year, where he was praised for his breaking ball and potential to add velocity. LHP Clayton Andrews: (L, 0-1) 1.2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 K The organizational debut for Andrews, who the Yankees acquired for minor league RHP Joshua Quezada. He didn’t have any fun in his MLB debut last season (27.00 ERA in four games), but he pitched well for their Triple-A affiliate. Walks appear to be an issue, but he did touch 95.4 on the gun today. That’s valuable for an LHP if you can figure out everything else. RHP Dennis Santana: 0.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K Santana allowed two inherited runners to score.

Yankees MILB 4/6: Omar Martinez: 4 Hits, HR
POSTED ON APRIL 6, 2024 BY ADMIN News:
No news is good news, except when it isn’t.
Scranton (3-4) (Lost a doubleheader to Syracuse)
Game 1 (Lost, 4-2)
RF Greg Allen: 1-for-1, RS, SB (3) Allen left the game early. RF Josh VanMeter: 0-for-3 LF Caleb Durbin: 0-for-3, RS, SB (5), BB C Carlos Narvaez: 1-for-2, SB (1), 2 BB, K Narvaez is 3-for-19 with eight walks. That is how you turn a .158 batting average into a .393 OBP. DH Everson Pereira: 0-for-2, 2 BB, K 1B Luis Torrens: 0-for-2, RBI, BB, K SS Kevin Smith: 0-for-1, SF, RBI, BB, K 2B Jeter Downs: 0-for-3, K 3B Jordan Groshans: 0-for-3, 2 K CF Brandon Lockridge: 1-for-2, 3 SB (7), BB, K
RHP Will Warren: 4 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K Warren didn’t pitch well in not-so-ideal Opening Day conditions. He bounced back tonight. LHP Tanner Tully (L, 0-1): 3 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 HR, 0 BB, 3 K Tully cleared waivers and was outrighted to Scranton, where he will eat some innings as needed.
Game 2 (Lost, 9-6, in eight innings. Remember that minor-league doubleheaders are 7-inning games. Syracuse scored five in the 7th to take the lead, only for Scranton to answer with three. However, Syracuse pulled away in the 8th).
CF Brandon Lockridge: 1-for-2, RBI, RS, 2 SB (9), 2 BB Lockridge has nine stolen bases in six games. He stole 40 in 92 games in 2023. SS Caleb Durbin: 1-for-4, 2 RBI, K Durbin is 11-for-26 (2 doubles, 1 triple, 1 HR, 10 RBI, 5 R, 6 BB, 2 K, 5-for-5 SB). So far this season, he has already played 2B/SS/3B/LF/DH. This kid has serious “fan favorite” ability because he can do so many things. DH-1B Jose Rojas: 1-for-4, HR (3), 2 RBI, RS, 2 K The 31-year-old depth piece has three homers in five games. RF Everson Pereira: 1-for-4, 2 K 6-for-26 (.231) with a pair of home runs. He has four walks and 11 strikeouts. 1B-2B Luis Torrens: 1-for-3, RS, BB LF Luis Gonzalez: 0-for-4, K 3B Jeter Downs: 1-for-2, RBI, RS, BB, K C Josh Breaux: 0-for-2, RS, 2 BB, K 2B-P Josh VanMeter: 0-for-2, RS, BB, K
RHP Clayton Beeter: 3.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 5 BB, 5 K As usual, Beeter was fastball/slider-heavy. He topped out at 94.5 MPH but averaged 91.8. On a good note: He generated 12 whiffs. There’s talent here – I still wonder where that talent is best utilized. LHP Clayton Andrews: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K LHP Oddanier Mosqueda: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K RHP Yerry De Los Santos (L, 0-1): 0.1 IP, 2 H, 5 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 0 K De Los Santos is throwing hard (95.9 MPH sinkers). With the injuries happening with the big club, there will be opportunities for some of these relievers to shine. That can change once Tommy Kahnle/Scott Effross/Lou Trivino emerge from their injuries. LHP Anthony Misiewicz: 0.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K RHP Josh VanMeter: 1 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 0 K VanMeter was forced into some relief duty. It isn’t foreign to him, as he has three games of MLB experience on the hill. Those games didn’t go much better.
Somerset (1-1) (Lost to Richmond, 13-3)
C Ben Rice: 1-for-5, RS 1B T.J. Rumfield: 2-for-3, 2B (1), BB, K Rumfield’s HR spiked from four homers in 2021-2022 to 17 in 2023. If the power game continues to develop, he will become interesting. DH Agustin Ramirez: 1-for-4, HR (2), 2 RBI, RS, 2 K After his promotion last year, he hit two home runs in 31 games. This year? Two home runs in two games. You will hear about whether the 22-year-old can stick behind the plate. Remember this: We heard that about Austin Wells since day one. I like that Fangraphs said that he isn’t ready to be an MLB catcher YET instead of making a decisive prediction on his future position. RF Elijah Dunham: 0-for-2, 2 K I think many were hoping that Dunham would get some MLB at-bats last year. However, he had a tough year. I don’t know why he was pulled today. RF Jared Wegner: 1-for-2, 3B (1), RS LF J.C. Escarra: 1-for-3, 2B(1), BB, K Typically a 1B/DH, this is Escarra’s first career game in the outfield. He was signed to a minor league contract over the winter. 3B Ben Cowles: 1-for-4 CF Grant Richardson: 0-for-4, 3 K 2B Aaron Palensky: 0-for-1, 2 BB, HBP, K Anthony Seigler at 2B yesterday…Aaron Palensky (typically an OF) today! He played one game at 2B in 2023. SS Max Burt: 0-for-4, 2 K
RHP Bailey Dees (L, 0-1): 3.1 IP, 5 H, 8 R, 8 ER, 1 HR, 5 BB, 3 K Dees is undergoing a role change, it appears. With that will come growing pains, as we saw tonight. He is listed at 6’8″, 255 pounds. LHP Clay Aguilar: 1.1 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 1 HR, 1 BB, 1 K Typically reliable, Aguilar had a tough time today in his Double-A debut (he pitched four games for Scranton last year). RHP Kevin Stevens: 2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K Stevens (26) was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2022. He didn’t pitch in 2023. This is only his sixth career game. RHP Carlos Gomez: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 1 K
Hudson Valley (1-1) (Walloped Bowling Green, 14-2)
2B Jared Serna: 1-for-3, HR (1), RBI, 3 RS, 2 BB I wrote last night about his lack of home runs since joining Hudson Valley last year. It must feel good to get that first one out of the way finally. PH-2B Beau Brewer: 0-for-1, K 3B Jesus Rodriguez: 1-for-6, RS, 2 K C Omar Martinez: 4-for-5, HR (1), 2 RBI, 3 RS, BB The left-handed hitting catcher hit .291/.367/.445 with 18 HR in 105 games for Tampa last year. He was one of the few performing prospects who did not receive a promotion, but I wouldn’t read into that. RF Garrett Martin: 2-for-5, 2B (1), 3 RBI, 2 RS, K RF Kyle Battle: 0-for-0, HBP LF Anthony Hall: 0-for-5, RS, BB, K DH Rafael Flores: 3-for-5, HR (1), 3 RBI, 2 RS The 23-year-old C/1B spent the entire season here last year, hitting .259/.346/.366 with eight home runs. 1B Kiko Romero: 1-for-4, RBI, RS, SB (1), HBP, 2 K SS Alexander Vargas: 0-for-4, RBI, BB Vargas has the glove to stick at SS. However, the bat has yet to develop. CF Cole Gabrielson: 1-for-5, RBI, RS, SB (1), K Gabrielson was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2023. MLB shortened the draft a few years ago, so talented kids will slip through.
LHP Kyle Carr: 2 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 1 K Carr (21) is receiving a lot of buzz. This represented the professional debut for the 21-year-old, who was drafted in the third round in the 2023 draft out of Palomar College. RHP Trent Sellers: 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 7 K Professional debut for the 24-year-old Sellers, who was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2023. In 15 starts for Oregon State, he posted a 4.86 ERA and 106/32 K/BB over 74 innings. It looks like he continued the strikeout tradition tonight. RHP Leonardo Pestana: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K LHP Joel Valdez: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K
Tampa (1-1) (Lost to Fort Myers, 6-4)
2B George Lombard Jr.: 0-for-4, BB, 2 K SS Roderick Arias: 1-for-4, 3B (1), RS, K A homer and triple in his first two games? We’ll take it. 3B Enmanuel Tejeda: 2-for-4, 2 RBI, SB (1) This looks like it will be the infield configuration early. It is smart, as Arias should play a lot at SS. It should change as players eventually move around levels. Plus, there will be off days, DH days, etc. Back to Tejeda: He stole 24 bases in 30 attempts in the FCL last year. LF Coby Morales: 1-for-4, RS, 3 K 1B Dylan Jasso: 0-for-3, BB, 3 K CF Jackson Castillo: 0-for-4, RS, K DH Willy Montero: 0-for-3, RBI, SB (1), BB, K Montero was productive last season, but only stole five bases. In 2022, he stole 16 in 53 games. RF Daury Arias: 0-for-4, RBI, 2 K The toolsy Arias didn’t perform well here last season (.217/.335/.318 with six home runs) C Manuel Palencia: 1-for-3, 2B (1), RS, BB, K The 21-year-old played ten games at this level in 2023 (11-for-35).
RHP Ryan Harvey: 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K The 23-year-old was the Yankees 11th round pick in the 2022 draft. He pitched to a 3.94 ERA with a 48/22 K/BB ratio over 45.2 innings last year (his debut year). LHP Allen Facundo: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K Fucando threw one of his 4-seamers 96.1 MPH. His sinker? Maxed at 97.4. That will get my attention, as will the 127 strikeouts in 80.2 career innings. RHP Jordy Luciano (L, 0-1): 2.2 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 6 K Throughout his brief career, the 22-year-old’s issue has been control. RHP Kris Bow: 2.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 4 K The Yankees drafted Bow in the 14th round of the 2022 draft. He is a sinker/slider type, who threw one sinker 94.8 MPH tonight. Control has been an issue in his short career.
FCL (0-0)
The season starts on 5/4.
DSL (0-0)
It will be a while before their season starts!

I hope they build Beeter up to be a starter, though they probably need a long reliever

Yankees MILB 4/7: Caleb Durbin is on Fire!
POSTED ON APRIL 7, 2024 BY ADMIN News:
Spencer Jones continues to be out of action with his stiff neck. Get that man a sleep number bed and memory foam pillow.
Scranton (4-4) (Defeated Syracuse, 7-2)
2B Caleb Durbin: 2-for-2, 2 2B (4), SF, 4 RBI, RS, 2 SB (7), 2 BB The Yankees received a player with legitimate MLB potential (perhaps as a super-utility type) for Lucas Luetge. Luetge is someone they revived after years of not pitching in MLB. He is now 13-for-28 (4 doubles, 1 triple, 1 HR, 14 RBI, 6 R, 8 BB, 2 K, 7-for-7 SB) CF Everson Pereira: 0-for-4, SB (1), HBP, 4 K Pereira is 6-for-30 with a whopping 15 strikeouts. DH Carlos Narvaez: 0-for-1, 3 BB Narvaez is 3-for-20 but has 11 walks. LF Jose Rojas: 0-for-4, BB, 2 K C Luis Torrens: 1-for-4, 2B (1), RS, K 3B Kevin Smith: 1-for-3, 2 RS, HBP, K SS Jeter Downs: 0-for-3, RS, HBP, K 6-for-19 with a triple and a homer. RF Luis Gonzalez: 0-for-2, RS, 2 BB, K 1B Jordan Groshans: 1-for-3, 2 RBI, RS, BB
RHP Cody Poteet: 4.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 HR, 1 BB,7 K The 29-year-old is on the 40-man roster. If you like “kitchen sink” types, you will like him. He featured six pitches today, averaging 93 with his 4-seamer and 92.1 with his sinker. He allowed two homers in the fifth inning. RHP Phil Bickford: (W, 1-0) 0.2 IP, 2 H, 0 H, 0 BB, 1 K RHP Alex Mauricio: 2.1 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K Mauricio was cutter-heavy today (57% of his 37 pitches). He also featured a 4-seamer and a slider. The 27-year-old pitched to a 3.14 ERA and 45/19 K/BB in 48.2 innings for Somerset in 2023. RHP Duane Underwood Jr.: (S, 1) 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K
Somerset (2-1) (Shut down Richmond, 8-0)
DH Ben Rice: 2-for-4, RS, SB (1), BB, 2 K Rice is 4-for-14 with a homer. C Agustin Ramirez: 1-for-5, HR (3), 3 RBI, RS, 2 K Ramirez has homered in three straight games to start his campaign. He is 4-for-14 with six RBI. 1B T.J. Rumfield: 0-for-1, RS, SB (1), 3 BB 2B Anthony Seigler: 0-for-3, RS, SB (1), BB He has the athleticism to play an up-the-middle position. Can he stay healthy and hit a little? We’ll see. LF Jared Wegner: 0-for-3, RS, K CF Grant Richardson: 0-for-3, RBI, RS, BB, K SS Ben Cowles: 3-for-4, 2B (2), 3 RBI Cowles was their 10th-round pick in the 2021 draft (Maryland). The Yankees have played him at 2B/SS/3B (plus two outs in left field) RF Aaron Palensky: 0-for-2, RS, BB, HBP 3B Max Burt: 0-for-3, RS, BB, 2 K
RHP Trystan Vrieling: (W, 1-0) 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 K This is his professional debut (yes, he was thrown right into the Double-A fire). He was drafted in the third round of the 2022 draft but missed the 2023 season. He did make five starts (10.2 innings) in the Arizona Fall League. RHP Tanner Myatt: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K Health and control have been issues for the 6’7″ Myatt, who has 232 strikeouts in 194 innings. LHP Ryan Anderson: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K The 6’6″ lefty pitched well last season (2.17 ERA in 37 games). RHP Danny Watson: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K Watson could make his MLB debut in 2024, even though he isn’t on the 40-man roster. He is a tall kid with a funky motion who pitched to a 1.58 ERA in 62.2 IP with an 82/25 K/BB in 2023.
Hudson Valley (2-1) (Shut down Bowling Green, 3-0)
2B Roc Riggio: 1-for-5, 2B (1), K SS Jared Serna: 1-for-3, HR (2), RBI, RS, 2 BB, K After going 28 games without a home run at this level, he has homered in back-to-back games. DH Omar Martinez: 1-for-4, BB, K LF Jesus Rodriguez: 1-for-4, RS, BB, K 1B Josh Moylan: 1-for-3, RS, BB, 2 K RF Garrett Martin: 1-for-4, RBI, 2 K C Rafael Flores: 1-for-4, K 3B Alexander Vargas: 0-for-2, SF, RBI, BB CF Nelson Medina: 0-for-4, SB (1), 2 K
RHP Cam Schlittler: (W, 1-0) 6 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 7 K The 6’6″ 23-year-old was drafted in the 7th round of the 2022 draft (Northeastern). He pitched to a 4.11 ERA and 50/21 K/BB over 46 innings last year (FCL/Tampa/Hudson Valley) LHP Ben Shields: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K Signed as a non-drafted free agent, this is the 25-year-old’s professional debut. I know nothing about him beyond the fact that he pitched for George Mason in 2023. The baseball-reference linker will take you to a pitcher from the early 1900s. That Shields went 4-0 with an 8.27 ERA in his brief career. LHP Geoffrey Gilbert (S, 1): 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K Gilbert was their 13th-round pick in the 2022 draft.
Tampa (1-2) (Lost to Fort Myers, 5-2)
SS George Lombard Jr.: 0-for-3, RS, SB (2), 2 BB The 18-year-old is 1-for-11 but has drawn four walks and stolen a pair of bases. This is his first 2024 start at shortstop, as they switched Lombard and Arias today. We’ll see more of that. 2B Roderick Arias: 0-for-4, 3 K Nobody said baseball is easy, teenager! He is 3-for-13 with a triple, a homer, and seven strikeouts. You should expect a mixed bag from a teenager making his full-season debut. The goal is for the good to outweigh the bad. 3B Enmanuel Tejeda: 1-for-4, RBI, RS, SB (2), K Speaking of teenagers, Tejeda will play this entire year as a 19-year-old. He is 4-for-12 with four runs batted in. LF Coby Morales: 0-for-4 1B Dylan Jasso: 1-for-4, 3B (1), RBI CF Jackson Castillo: 0-for-2, SB (1), 2 BB, K DH Willy Montero: 0-for-3, SB (2), BB, K The 19-year-old is 2-for-10 with a double, two walks, and two stolen bases. RF Tayler Aguilar: 1-for-3, 2B (1), SB (1), BB, K C Tomas Frick: 1-for-3, BB Drafted in the 15th round in the 2023 draft out of North Carolina, this represents his professional debut.
RHP Josh Grosz: (L, 0-1) 3.2 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 1 HR, 2 BB, 6 K This is Grosz’s professional debut. The 21-year-old was drafted in the 11th round out of East Carolina. He throws a sinker/slider/change, a mix the Yankees like to work with. RHP Yoljeldriz Diaz: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 0 K RHP Ocean Gabonia: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K According to Savant, Gabonia used a 5-pitch mix among his 11 pitches. There could be an error in the tracking, of course. His fastball/sinker was in the lower 90s. RHP Montana Semmel: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K Semmell maxed out at 94.4 MPH, equally mixing his 4-seamer and slider. He had some long-term buzz about him when he was drafted out of high school in 2019 and is still young enough (22) to tap into that potential.

Yankees MILB 4/12: Agustin Ramirez Hits 5th HR in 6 Games
News:
Nada.
Scranton (8-4) (Defeated Norfolk, 6-4. Even without Jackson Holliday, this lineup is dangerous. Scranton has held them to 12 runs in four games. The Railriders are 4-0 in those games)
CF Brandon Lockridge: 1-for-5, 2 RS, SB (11), K Lockridge leads minor league baseball with his 11 stolen bases. 2B Caleb Durbin: 2-for-5, 2B (6), RBI, SB (8) .386 (17-for-44, 6 doubles, 1 triple, 1 HR, 15 RBI, 8 R, 11 BB, 3 K, 8-for-8 SB) DH Everson Pereira: 2-for-4, HR (4), RBI, 2 RS, SB (2), BB And, just like that, he is hitting .244 with a .926 OPS. That’s what four solid games (5-for-15, 1 double, 2 HR, 3 BB) will do for you early in the season. C Carlos Narvaez: 3-for-5, 2 2B (3), 2 RBI, 2 RS Hopefully, this is the start of a hot streak. RF Jose Rojas: 2-for-4, 2 2B (3), 2 RBI, 2 K 1B Luis Torrens: 0-for-4, 2 K SS Jeter Downs: 2-for-4, 2B (1), SB (2), K 10-for-30 with a double, triple, and two home runs. The odds are long but this is fun. LF Luis Gonzalez: 0-for-1, 2 BB, K 3B Jordan Groshans: 1-for-4, 2 K
RHP Will Warren: (W, 1-0) 5 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 HR, 2 BB, 8 K Warren allowed a pair of homers in the first inning but settled down from there. He reached 95.8 with his sinker and 95.3 with his 4-seamer. His sinker didn’t generate a whiff, but his slider and 4-seamer did. It will take a while for his stat line to look normal, given his rough Opening Day start in Buffalo: 8.68 ERA (9.1 IP, 10 H, 10 R, 9 ER, 4 HR, 7 BB, 13 K) RHP Yerry De Los Santos: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K De Los Santos needed a clean outing and he got it. He loves his sinker (71% usage tonight) RHP Phil Bickford: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K LHP Oddanier Mosqueda (S, 1): 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K 6 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 0 HR, 4 BB, 10 K
Somerset (2-3) (Lost to New Hampshire, 10-8. They imploded in this one (7-1 lead))
C Ben Rice: 1-for-4, RS, BB DH Agustin Ramirez: 1-for-5, HR (5), 2 RBI, RS Ramirez has five homers in six games. He is at .259/.310/.815 in 29 PA (5 HR, 12 RBI, 5 R, 2 BB, 6 K). A young catcher displaying this power at an advanced level grabs your attention. 1B T.J. Rumfield: 1-for-5 LF Elijah Dunham: 1-for-4, HR (1), RBI, RS It would be nice if Dunham were able to get back on track… SS Ben Cowles: 2-for-4, RS, K CF Grant Richardson: 2-for-4, 2B (2), HR (1), 2 RBI, RS Richardson has displayed pop in the minors, as seen by his .450 career slugging percentage (846 PA). He hit 18 HR in 92 games between Hudson Valley and Somerset last year. 2B Aaron Palensky: 1-for-4, 2B (1), RS RF Jared Wegner: 2-for-4, HR (1), 2 RBI, 2 RS Last year’s 9th-round pick hit four HR in 24 games in his debut season, including a pair in 19 games for High-A Hudson Valley. 3B Max Burt: 1-for-4
RHP Zach Messinger: 6.1 IP, 9 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 2 HR, 1 BB, 8 K They stretched him into the 7th (92 pitches) and he hit a wall – that is a part of development. He was pitching well until that point. LHP Ryan Anderson: (L, 0-1) 1.2 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 0 BB, 0 K
Hudson Valley (3-2) (Split a doubleheader against Rome)
Game 1 (Lost, 3-2, in eight (extra) innings)
2B Roc Riggio: 2-for-2, 2B (2), RBI, RS, 2 BB He added more in Game 2 (how’s that for suspense?) SS Jared Serna: 1-for-4, RBI, CS (1) 4-for-14 (2 HR, 3 RBI, 4 R, 4 BB, 2 K, 0-for-1 SB). Serna went 29-for-37 (78.4%) in the stolen base department in 2023. C Jesus Rodriguez: 2-for-4, K 6-for-18 (1 double, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 3 RS, 1 BB, 4 K). It is a small sample, but this kid keeps hitting. In 207 career games (854 PA), he is hitting .315/.404/.477. DH Josh Moylan: 0-for-4, K LF Garrett Martin: 0-for-3, RS, HBP RF Anthony Hall: 0-for-4, 2 K 1B Rafael Flores: 0-for-4, 3 K 3B Kiko Romero: 1-for-2, BB, K CF Nelson Medina: 1-for-2, BB
RHP Jackson Fristoe: 2.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 K It isn’t that the Yankees lack velocity in their system – but many of their prospects aren’t upper-90s fireballers. Fristoe goes against that trend, as he supposedly has been clocked as high as 101. Control is something he needs to harness. LHP Ben Shields: 3.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K 5.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K RHP Leonardo Pestana: 1 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 0 K RHP Cole Ayers (L, 0-1): 0.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
Game 2 (Won, 1-0)
2B Roc Riggio: 0-for-1, 3 BB Riggio reached base safely in seven of his eight plate appearances today (single, double, five walks) RF Anthony Hall: 0-for-3, BB C Omar Martinez: 0-for-4, 2 K I guess he wasn’t going to hit .462 all season. 1B Josh Moylan: 1-for-3, K DH Rafael Flores: 1-for-3, RS, K SS Alexander Vargas: 2-for-2, 2B (1), RBI, SB (1), CS (1), BB It’s all about the bat for Vargas. The glove is good enough to stick at SS. CF Cole Gabrielson: 0-for-2, SB (2), BB, 2 K 3B Beau Brewer: 1-for-3, K LF Kyle Battle: 0-for-3, K
RHP Brian Hendry: (W, 1-0) 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 8 K Signed as an undrafted free agent out of Oklahoma State, tonight marked the 24-year-old’s professional debut. As I have often said, don’t underestimate an undrafted free agent. The draft was shortened and Hendry is on the older side of the spectrum. RHP Matt Keating: (S, 1) 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K
Tampa (1-6) (Lost to Dunedin, 11-2. An ugly game that featured six Tampa errors)
3B George Lombard Jr.: 2-for-4, SB (3), RS, K .238/.529/.238 in 34 PA. That is what you call a small sample size triple slash. Lombard doesn’t have much experience at 3B, and he committed two of the errors. He has five total this season. SS Roderick Arias: 0-for-3, HBP, 2 K .179/.281/.393 in 32 PA. 2B Enmanuel Tejeda: 0-for-3, SF, RBI, K His 6-game hitting streak to start the season is snapped. 1B Dylan Jasso: 1-for-4, 2B (1), RBI, 3 K A solid 6-for-19 start to his campaign with a double, triple, and four RBI. LF Coby Morales: 0-for-2, 2 BB, K CF Willy Montero: 0-for-3, BB, 2 K DH Manuel Palencia: 0-for-4 RF Daury Arias: 1-for-3, K C Edinson Duran: 1-for-3, 2B (1), RS, K
LHP Allen Facundo: 2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 1 K RHP Jordy Luciano (L, 0-2): 2.1 IP, 1 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 2 K RHP Montana Semmel: 2.1 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K RHP Steven Fulgencio: 2 IP, 0 H, 3 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 5 K RHP Ocean Gabonia: 0.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K

Yankees MILB 4/13: Agustin Ramirez: 6th HR in 7 Games
News:
LHP Josh Maciejewski was designated for assignment by the Yankees. He threw a scoreless inning in his MLB debut a few nights ago.
Unfortunately, this is how baseball works. However, it isn’t all bad for him. If someone claims him, he sticks to a 40-man roster. If not, he goes to Scranton for depth.
The Yankees added Kevin Smith to the MLB roster today. Smith, who replaces the injured Jon Berti, is a .173/.215/.301 career hitter in 333 plate appearances. He is mostly a shortstop/third baseman.
So far this season, the Yankees haven’t shown much faith in Oswaldo Cabrera against LHP. That will need to change as they can’t count on Smith or Jahmai Jones to provide anything offensively. While there is talk that DJ LeMahieu may be back soon, we’ll believe that when he is on the field.
Scranton (9-4) (Defeated Norfolk, 3-0. Even without Jackson Holliday, this lineup is dangerous. Scranton has held them to 12 runs in five games. The Railriders are 5-0 in those games)
CF Brandon Lockridge: 0-for-3, CS (1), BB, K DH Caleb Durbin: 0-for-4 Durbin has run into a little slump (2-for-16). His strikeout rate has fallen below 5% (4.9). LF Everson Pereira: 0-for-4, 4 K Pereira has been hitting better lately but has an unsightly 36.2% K. C Carlos Narvaez: 1-for-3, HR (1), RBI, 2 RS, BB, K Power and walks define his offensive game. 1B Jose Rojas: 1-for-2, 2 BB, K SS Jeter Downs: 1-for-4, RBI, 2 K 11-for-34 (.324). RF Luis Gonzalez: 1-for-4, 3 K 3B Jordan Groshans: 0-for-4 2B Josh VanMeter: 1-for-3, HR (2), RBI, RS, 2 K
RHP Clayton Beeter: (W, 1-0) 5 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 8 K An impressive night for Beeter. The Yankees could have gone with him over Cody Poteet but they likely want Beeter to work down here. There is nothing wrong with that. Once again, he was primarily 4-seam (66%)-slider (28%) while mixing in a handful of changeups. He peaked at 95.7 MPH. RHP Matt Givin: 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K The Yankees signed Givin to a minor league contract last August. This is the 24-year-old’s organizational debut (he never pitched above High-A while in the Marlins organization). RHP Jake Cousins (S, 2): 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
Somerset (4-4) (Swept a doubleheader up in New Hampshire)
Game 1 (Won, 10-2)
DH Spencer Jones: 2-for-3, 2B (1), RBI, 3 RS, BB Jones finally makes his 2024 debut. One of the Yankees’ top prospects (he could be #1 based on who you ask), Jones went 8-for-18 with two doubles and a homer during spring training. 1B T.J. Rumfield: 2-for-4, RBI, RS 7-for-23 (.304) with a double, six walks, and four strikeouts. SS Ben Cowles: 0-for-2, RS, 2 BB, K C J.C. Escarra: 0-for-2, SF, 2 RBI, BB CF Grant Richardson: 0-for-4 RF Jared Wegner: 1-for-4, HR (2), 3 RBI, RS, K Back-to-back games with a home run. 2B Anthony Seigler: 1-for-4, RS, K LF Aaron Palensky: 2-for-3, 2 2B (3), RS, BB, K 5-for-17 with three doubles, five walks, and five strikeouts. 3B Max Burt: 1-for-4, HR (1), 3 RBI, 2 RS, SB (1), K Burt reached double digits in home runs and stolen bases in 2022 and 2023.
RHP Bailey Dees: 4.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 HR, 2 BB, 6 K Bees tosses 81 pitches in his second start of the season. He is converting from the bullpen, so it’s a process. RHP Kevin Stevens (W, 1-0): 2.2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 K
Game 2 (Won, 3-1)
DH Ben Rice: 1-for-4 .233/.324/.333 in 34 PA. He hit a leadoff HR on Opening Day and hasn’t homered since. Is that a problem? No. It’s the quirks of baseball. C Agustin Ramirez: 2-for-4, HR (6), RBI, RS He has homered in six of his seven games this season (and has a 7-game hitting streak that is eight if you go back to 2023). He is hitting .290/.333/.871 in 33 PA. 3B Ben Cowles: 2-for-3, 2B (4), 2 RS, HBP Cowles is hitting .407/.500/.556 in 32 PA. He has hit safely in seven of his eight games. RF J.C. Escarra: 1-for-4, 2B (2), RBI, K Catcher in Game 1, RF in Game 2. That is how a player can keep himself employed. CF Grant Richardson: 0-for-4, 4 K 2B Anthony Seigler: 1-for-3, RBI, 2 K LF Jared Wegner: 1-for-3, SB (2) Wegner had a solid senior season for Arkansas (.312/.457/.674 with 15 home runs), enough for the Yankees to draft him. While he did play a little CF in college, he likely sticks to the corner OF spots in the pros. 1B Spencer Henson: 0-for-3 Like Jones, this is Henson’s 2024 debut. Last season, for Hudson Valley, the 26-year-old hit .252/.327/.453 with 14 home runs in 339 plate appearances. SS Max Burt: 0-for-2, BB, K
RHP Trystan Vrieling: (W, 2-0) 6 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 6 K First two professional starts: 11 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 12 K. Is he this year’s Drew Thorpe? Way too early for that, but you have to be encouraged when a kid is thrown straight into the Double-A fire without any other minor league experience and performs. RHP Carlos Gomez (S, 1): 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
Hudson Valley (4-2) (Defeated Rome, 3-0)
2B Jared Serna: 1-for-5, RS, K .263/.391/.579 in 23 PA with four walks and three strikeouts. 3B Jesus Rodriguez: 0-for-4 I have mentioned his versatility in the past. In his six starts this year, he has played third base three times, catcher twice, and left field once. Last year, he played the same positions along with time at first base. DH Omar Martinez: 1-for-4, 3B (1), RBI, K 7-for-21 with a triple, home run, two walks, and four strikeouts. There is nice catching depth in the system. RF Garrett Martin: 1-for-3, RS, SB (1), HBP Martin’s first professional stolen base. C Rafael Flores: 2-for-4, RS, K 7-for-20 with two doubles and a homer. He will split time between catching and first base. 1B Kiko Romero: 0-for-2, 2 BB, 2K SS Alexander Vargas: 0-for-4, RBI, K CF Nelson Medina: 0-for-4, 4 K LF Cole Gabrielson: 0-for-3, BB, K
RHP Sebastian Keane: 4.1 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 7 K Keane was used primarily as a reliever during his 2023 debut season. However, he had plenty of experience as a starter in college. They didn’t push him beyond 72 pitches, but this effort was impressive. RHP Trent Sellers (W, 2-0): 3.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K 6.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 12 K. I would consider this a nice start to his career. LHP Geoffrey Gilbert (S, 2): 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
Tampa (2-6) (Defeated Dunedin, 8-7, in ten innings)
SS George Lombard Jr.: 1-for-4, RBI, 2 SB (5), 2 BB, 3 K Lombard Jr. has a silly 35% BB rate. Small sample sizes rule. The single was a 107.2 MPH bullet that brought in the winning run in the 10th. DH Roderick Arias: 2-for-5, 2 2B (3), RS, CS (2), 2 K Arias is hitting .212 with a .752 OPS. Five of his seven hits have gone for extra bases (3 doubles, 1 triple, 1 HR). 3B Dylan Jasso: 1-for-2, RS, 3 BB 7-for-21 with six walks. Many undrafted free agents are on the older side, but Jasso is only 21. 1B Coby Morales: 0-for-4, BB, K CF Willy Montero: 1-for-5, RBI, 2 K Montero was second to teammate John Cruz (no longer in the system) with his 43 RBI in the FCL last year. He is off to a slow start here (3-for-26). RF Daury Arias: 0-for-4, RS, BB, 2 K C Tomas Frick: 1-for-4, 2B (1), RBI, RS, BB, K PR Enmanuel Tejeda: 0-for-0, RS LF Tayler Aguilar: 1-for-2, HR (1), 2 RBI, 2 RS, SB (2), 3 BB, K It has been a frustrating few years for Aguilar, so it’s nice to see him put up this effort. 2B Brenny Escanio: 0-for-4, RS, BB, K
RHP Ryan Harvey: 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 2 K Harvey spent time on the injured list late last season, so I assume they are bringing him back slowly. RHP Kris Bow: 2.2 IP, 2 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 2 K The results aren’t what he wants, but he did touch 97 MPH (he averaged 94). He has control issues (understatement) that he will need to clean up. RHP Osiel Rodriguez: 2.2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 HR, 1 BB, 4 K You can work with someone who flashes mid-90s 4-seamers and sinkers (he featured a 5-pitch mix tonight). RHP Aaron Nixon: 2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 3 K RHP Huey Morrill: (W, 2-0) 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K

Yankees MILB 4/14: Josh Breaux: 2 HR, 5 RBI
News:
Nothing.
Scranton (10-4) (Held off Norfolk, 6-5, to complete the 6-game sweep. Even without Jackson Holliday, this lineup is dangerous. Scranton has held them to 17 runs in six games)
CF Brandon Lockridge: 2-for-4, 2B (4), BB, K .310/.524/.448 in 42 PA (4 doubles, 6 RBI, 9 R, 13 BB, 7 K, 11-for-12 SB) SS Caleb Durbin: 1-for-5, SB (9), K .340/.455/.547 in 66 PA (6 doubles, 1 triple, 1 HR, 15 RBI, 8 R, 11 BB, 4 K, 9-for-9 SB) LF Everson Pereira: 0-for-2, 2 K PH-3B Jordan Groshans: 1-for-3, RBI, 2 K I am not sure why Pereira was pulled from the game. DH Carlos Narvaez: 0-for-5, 4 K 1B Jose Rojas: 0-for-2, RS, 3 BB 2B Jeter Downs: 0-for-3, RS, 2 BB, 2 K RF Luis Gonzalez: 2-for-5, RS, SB (2), K C Josh Breaux: 3-for-5, 2 HR (2), 5 RBI, 2 RS One of his HR traveled 430 feet at 109.5 MPH. The five RBI ties his personal best (July 10th, 2021). This is the fifth multi-HR game in his career. 2B Josh VanMeter: 2-for-4, RS, K
LHP Edgar Barclay: 3.2 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 3 K One of the quirks of the 6-game series they have in the minors is that sometimes a starter has to face the same team twice. That happened with Barclay, who was also the Tuesday starter. LHP Oddanier Mosqueda: (W, 2-0) 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K RHP Yorlin Calderon: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K Calderon is holding his own at this level. RHP Duane Underwood Jr.: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K LHP Anthony Misiewicz (S, 2): 1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 0 K
Somerset (4-5) (Lost a crazy one to New Hampshire, 13-9. They were down 13-4 and tried to mount a comeback but it was too steep of a climb)
C Ben Rice: 0-for-5, 2 K The start of the season has been a slog for Rice, who is 7-for-35 (only one extra-base hit (HR)) with a 28.2% K. DH Agustin Ramirez: 0-for-1, 3 RS, 2 SB (2), 3 BB, HBP A productive day in a different way. His flyout in the 8th cost him his 7-game hitting streak. 1B T.J. Rumfield: 2-for-5, RBI, 2 RS CF Elijah Dunham: 1-for-5, 2B (2), RBI, 2 K SS Ben Cowles: 2-for-4, 3B (1), 3 RBI, RS, BB .419/.514/.613 in 37 PA. He has hit safely in eight of nine games (two walks in the hitless game) LF Jared Wegner: 1-for-5, 3B (2), RBI, RS, K Four of Wegner’s seven hits have gone for extra bases (2 triples, 2 HR). In his debut season last year, 11 of his 22 hits went for extra bases (7 doubles, 4 HR). RF Grant Richardson: 2-for-4, 2 2B (4), RBI, RS, SB (1), HBP The 24-year-old continues to display the raw power. He also can steal bases, as evidenced by his 46-for-52 (88.5%) rate. 2B Aaron Palensky: 2-for-4, RBI 3B Max Burt: 0-for-2 3B J.C. Escarra: 1-for-1, RS, HBP
RHP Blane Abeyta: (L, 0-2) 4 IP, 6 H, 8 R, 6 ER, 2 HR, 2 BB, 2 K LHP Clay Aguilar: 2 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 HR, 1 BB, 1 K RHP Jack Neely: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K 4.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 9 K
Hudson Valley (5-3) (Split a doubleheader with Rome)
Game 1 (Lost, 5-4, in eight (extra) innings)
SS Roc Riggio: 0-for-3, SF, RBI, RS 2B Jared Serna: 0-for-4, RS, K DH Omar Martinez: 1-for-4, 2 K C Jesus Rodriguez: 2-for-4, RBI His 2-run throwing error was costly but his offense keeps ticking (three multi-hit games in six games played) 1B Josh Moylan: 2-for-4, RBI, K 5-for-18. RF Garrett Martin: 0-for-4, 2 K LF Anthony Hall: 1-for-2, RS, BB, K 3B Alexander Vargas: 1-for-3, 3B (1), RBI, RS Vargas hit seven triples in 2019 and six triples in 2023. CF Nelson Medina: 0-for-3, 2 K
LHP Kyle Carr: 3.2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 5 BB, 2 K Both runs scored on a pickoff attempt error by Rodriguez. Anyway, Carr played with fire all day and eventually, an error burned him (the error occurred when Valdez was in the game). He kept the runs off the board by inducing grounders. LHP Jose Valdez: 3.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 6 K 5.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 6 K. Valdez pitched here last year and struggled, so we’ll see if he can right the ship and get to Somerset in 2024. RHP Luis Arejula (L, 0-1): 0 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 0 K Arejula’s 2024 debut comes with the built-in runner at second base. The 22-year-old has mostly been in the rookie leagues since 2021, though he did make seven appearances with Low-A Tampa last season.
Game 2 (Won, 6-3)
2B Roc Riggio: 2-for-2, 3B (1), RBI, RS, SB (1), 2 BB 5-for-17 (2 doubles, 1 triple, 3 RBI, 3 R, 5 BB, 3 K, 1-for-1 SB). He has 29 walks in 122 career PA (23.8%) SS Jared Serna: 0-for-2, 2 SF, 2 RBI Productive outs! C Omar Martinez: 1-for-4, HR (2), RBI, RS 9-for-29 (.310/.941 OPS) with a triple and two home runs. DH Jesus Rodriguez: 0-for-3, RS, BB CF Anthony Hall: 0-for-3, BB, K LF Garrett Martin: 1-for-3, 2B (3), RS, SB (2), HBP 1B Rafael Flores: 1-for-3, 2B (3), RBI, RS, BB, K 3B Kiko Romero: 1-for-3, RBI, RS RF Cole Gabrielson: 0-for-3, BB, K
RHP Cam Schlittler: (W, 2-0) 5 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 0 ER, 1 HR, 4 BB, 5 K 11 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 0 ER, 1 HR, 5 BB, 12 K RHP Cole Ayers: (S, 1) 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K
Tampa (2-7) (Lost to Dunedin, 11-4)
DH George Lombard Jr.: 0-for-4, BB Lombard has reached base safely in all nine games this season (at least one walk in eight games). In his short career, he has reached base safely in 21 of his 22 games (24 of 25 if I include the 2023 playoffs). SS Roderick Arias: 0-for-3, RS, SB (1), BB, K .194/.293/.417 in 41 PA (3 doubles, 1 triple, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 5 R, 4 BB, 20 K, 1-for-2 SB). There is a lot of “raw ability” in that stat line. You love the extra-base hits while not loving the 48.8% K rate. We must be patient and not be so quick in placing him in the 2026 Yankees lineup. 2B Enmanuel Tejeda: 2-for-3, RS, 2 SB (5), BB, K Tejeda is 9-for-30 with five RBI and five stolen bases in seven attempts. 3B Dylan Jasso: 0-for-3, RS, BB, 2 K 1B Coby Morales: 1-for-4, RBI, 2 K CF Willy Montero: 1-for-4, 2 RBI, K LF Tayler Aguilar: 0-for-2, RS, 2 BB C Manuel Palencia: 1-for-2, RBI, 2 BB RF Daury Arias: 0-for-4, K
RHP Josh Grosz (L, 0-2): 2.1 IP, 5 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 3 BB, 5 K Grosz goes after hitters with a sinker/slider combo. His first two starts haven’t been great but this is just the beginning, not the end. LHP Brady Rose: 4.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K Professional debut for the 23-year-old. He was their 12th-round pick in the 2023 draft out of Dallas Baptist. Today, he featured a 4-pitch mix (4-seamer (38%), slider (30%), sinker (21%), and change (11%). RHP Yoljeldriz Diaz: 1 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 2 K RHP Dayro Perez: 0.2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 1 K RHP Brenny Escanio: 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K Tampa was out of pitchers, which is why Perez/Escanio were used (they are typically infielders)
FCL (0-0)
The season starts on 5/4.
DSL (0-0)
It will be a while before their season starts!

Yankees MILB 4/17: Agustin Ramirez Hits 7th HR
News:
Nothing
Scranton (11-5) (Defeated Lehigh Valley, 5-4. Five double plays helped the pitchers)
CF Brandon Lockridge: 0-for-4, K SS Caleb Durbin: 0-for-2, 2 RS, SB (10), 2 BB, K Durbin has an 18.7% BB/8% K in 75 PA. He is 89-for-103 (86.4%) stealing bases in his career. 1B T.J. Rumfield: 3-for-4, 2B (1), 2 RBI Rumfield extends his hitting streak to seven (between here and Somerset). He has reached base safely in all ten games he has played. C Carlos Narvaez: 1-for-4, RS, 2 K LF Jose Rojas: 1-for-4, 2B (5), RS, K 3B Jordan Groshans: 2-for-4, HR (1), 2 RBI, RS Groshan’s 2-run HR in the bottom of the 8th gave Scranton the lead. 2B Josh VanMeter: 1-for-2, SF, RBI, BB DH Josh Breaux: 0-for-4, K RF Luis Gonzalez: 0-for-3
RHP Yoendrys Gomez: 3 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 1 K 9 IP, 9 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 HR, 4 BB, 9 K. He is averaging three innings per start and not throwing many pitches (49 in his first start, 49 in his second start, and 57 tonight) LHP Oddanier Mosqueda: 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 HR, 0 BB, 1 K 9 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 HR, 4 BB, 13 K RHP Yerry De Los Santos: 1.2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K RHP Jake Cousins: (W, 1-0) 1.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K RHP Duane Underwood Jr. (S, 2): 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K 9.2 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 HR, 5 BB, 11 K
Somerset (4-7) (Lost to Hartford, 6-5)
CF Spencer Jones: 1-for-3, RBI Jones was thrown out trying to stretch the single into a double – and was immediately ejected by the umpire. RF Jared Wegner: 1-for-2, 2B (1), RS DH Agustin Ramirez: 1-for-4, HR (7), RBI, RS, BB Ramirez has seven homers in ten games. He also has seven walks (14.9%) and eight strikeouts (17.0%). C Ben Rice: 3-for-5, 2B (1), HR (2), 2 RBI, RS, K Rice was struggling to enter tonight. He certainly didn’t struggle tonight. You may think of him as a first base option, but he has yet to play the position in 2024 (6 games behind the plate, 5 games as the designated hitter). This doesn’t mean he won’t play first base, but they aren’t forcing it on him this season. 2B Ben Cowles: 1-for-5, 2B (6), RS, SB (3), K Cowles has six doubles in 11 games. Nobody knows how the Yankees will approach second base in 2025 and beyond. 3B J.C. Escarra: 0-for-3, BB, K LF Aaron Palensky: 0-for-2, RBI, SB (2), CS (1), 2 BB, K SS Alexander Vargas: 0-for-4, 2 K Double-A debut for the 22-year-old switch-hitter. The bat has yet to develop. RF-CF Grant Richardson: 1-for-3, 2B (5), RS, BB 1B Spencer Henson: 1-for-4, K
RHP Zach Messinger: (L, 0-1) 5 IP, 3 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 4 BB, 5 K 17 IP, 16 H, 15 R, 10 ER, 3 HR, 6 BB, 18 K RHP Matt Givin: 3 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K RHP Carlos Gomez: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
Hudson Valley (7-3) (Defeated Aberdeen, 5-4, in 11 innings)
2B Roc Riggio: 0-for-4, BB SS Jared Serna: 0-for-3, RS, 2 BB, K Serna is off to a slow start (5-for-32) though he does have six walks and only five strikeouts. CF Jace Avina: 0-for-4, K The 20-year-old Avina was acquired (along with OF Brian Sanchez) from the Brewers for Jake Bauers in November. He is ranked 29th on the MLB Pipeline list, which notes his right-handed raw power. Last year, in Low-A, he hit .233/.373/.442 in 99 games with 14 homers and 50 RBI. As for Sanchez, the 19-year-old is currently assigned to the DSL. 1B Kiko Romero: 0-for-1, RS, K C Jesus Rodriguez: 2-for-5, RBI, RS, CS (1), K Rodriguez has five multi-hit games (9 games played) DH Josh Moylan: 1-for-2, HR (1), RBI, 2 RS, 2 BB, HBP, K 6-for-23 (.261) . The homer was his first extra-base hit this season. 1B Rafael Flores: 0-for-4, K PR-CF Nelson Medina: 1-for-1, RBI Game-winning RBI single in the 11th. RF Anthony Hall: 1-for-2, 2 BB 3B Beau Brewer: 0-for-3, RBI, BB, 2 K His RBI walk in the 9th tied the game. LF Kyle Battle: 0-for-4, 2 K
RHP Jackson Fristoe: (L, 0-1) 0.2 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 0 K Move on to the next one. This will soon be forgotten. RHP Trent Sellers: 2.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K 8.2 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 4 BB, 15 K. Sellers is 24, so they won’t likely hold him down here for long if he continues to perform. RHP Matt Keating: 2.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K 5.2 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 HR, 4 BB, 8 K RHP Luis Arejula: 2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 2 K LHP Geoffrey Gilbert: 2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K The 13th-round pick in 2022 (Clemson) has pitched well since being drafted (2.67 ERA; 54 IP, 35 H, 1 HR, 29 BB, 64 K) RHP Cole Ayers: (W, 1-1) 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K
Tampa (3-8) (Defeated St. Lucie, 5-1)
SS George Lombard Jr.: 1-for-5 Lombard Jr. has reached base safely in all 11 of his games. He is at .205/.436/.205 (he only has two career extra-base hits (doubles) in 24 games. He is only 18, so no need to be worried). Position distribution: SS: 6 games; 2B: 2; 3B: 2; DH: 1 3B Enmanuel Tejeda: 0-for-5, K .300/.341/.300 in 44 PA. Position distribution: 3B: 5 games; 2B: 3; DH: 2 2B Roderick Arias: 0-for-4, 3 K .182/.280/.364 in 50 PA. His early-season K% sits at 50%. Development takes time. Position distribution: SS: 5 games; 2B: 5; DH: 1 1B Dylan Jasso: 1-for-3, RS, BB .276/.463/.379 in 41 PA. 10/8 BB/K. LF Coby Morales: 0-for-3, BB, 3 K CF Willy Montero: 1-for-4, RS, 2 K RF Daury Arias: 1-for-3, RS, BB, K C Manuel Palencia: 2-for-4, 2 RBI, RS DH Brenny Escanio: 2-for-4, 3B (2), RBI, RS, CS (1), K Escanio was acquired from the Brewers for J.P. Feyereisen in 2019.
RHP Luis Serna: 4.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 9 K Serna ties his personal best for strikeouts in a game. He has been talked about for a while (he made his debut in 2021) but won’t be 20 until July. He doesn’t rely on power (he only threw one 4-seamer today, and who knows if that is accurate) and is more of a sinker/slider/curve/change guy. RHP Montana Semmel (W, 1-0): 2.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K 7 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 0 HR, 1 BB, 8 K RHP Huey Morrill (S, 1): 2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K 7 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 0 HR, 2 BB, 7 K

Yankees MILB 4/18: George Lombard Jr. Reaches Base 6 Times
News:
The Yankees claimed OF Taylor Trammell off waivers from the Dodgers. In a corresponding move, IF Kevin Smith was designated for assignment. Trammell is out of options so he must be placed on the MLB roster.
Once one of baseball’s brightest prospects, Trammell has struggled in MLB, hitting .165/.266/.361 in 357 plate appearances with 15 homers and 39 RBI. His walk rate is solid (10.9%) but his career strikeout rate is 37.3%.
It’s a low-risk move and it is easy to cut bait if it doesn’t work out.
As for Smith, the Yankees lose shortstop depth by waiving him. Anthony Volpe‘s only backup is Oswaldo Cabrera, who is playing third base. One has to assume that DJ LeMahieu is close to returning.
Scranton (12-5) (Doubled Up Lehigh Valley, 8-4)
SS Caleb Durbin: 1-for-5, 2B (7), RBI, RS, 2 K How rare is a multiple-strikeout game for Durbin? This is his first such game in 2024 after doing it once in 2023. It has happened five times in 208 career games. Amazing. CF Everson Pereira: 3-for-4, 2 HR (6), 4 RBI, 2 RS Pereira’s 9th career multi-HR game. He has six homers and 13 RBI in 15 games. 1B T.J. Rumfield: 0-for-4, 4 K Three hits last night. Four Ks tonight. You cannot find a game more humbling than baseball. C Carlos Narvaez: 0-for-2, RS, 2 HBP LF Jose Rojas: 0-for-2, 2 RS, CS (1), 2 BB, K LF Brandon Lockridge: 0-for-0 3B Jordan Groshans: 1-for-4, K 2B Josh VanMeter: 1-for-2, 2B (1), 2 RBI, RS, 2 BB DH Josh Breaux: 0-for-4, 4 K RF Luis Gonzalez: 1-for-2, 2B (2), RBI, RS, 2 BB, K
RHP Will Warren: (W, 2-0) 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 7 K Since his tough season-opening start against Buffalo (bad weather): 2.40 ERA (15 IP, 9 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 5 BB, 20 K) LHP Josh Maciejewski: 0.1 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 HR, 1 BB, 1 K LHP Anthony Misiewicz: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K LHP Clayton Andrews: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
Somerset (5-7) (Defeated Hartford, 5-3)
CF Spencer Jones: 0-for-4, K 3-for-13 with a double, two walks, and three strikeouts. DH Agustin Ramirez: 1-for-3, RS, BB, K Ramirez reaches base twice in four plate appearances, qualifying as a boring night for him. 1B Ben Rice: 2-for-4, HR (3), RBI, 2 RS I commented last night that he hadn’t played a game at first base this season. Well, now he has. Anyway, Rice is starting to heat up. He has homered in back-to-back games and is up to .250 with a .766 OPS. RF Elijah Dunham: 1-for-3, RS, BB, K C J.C. Escarra: 2-for-4, HR (1), 2 RBI, RS, K The 28-year-old is 8-for-21 with three doubles and a homer while playing C/3B/LF/RF. He never caught professionally before this season. 3B Ben Cowles: 0-for-2, RBI, 2 BB, K Cowles has reached base safely in all 12 games this season (at least one hit in ten of those games) LF Grant Richardson: 1-for-3, SF, RBI 2B Anthony Seigler: 0-for-3, BB, K SS Alexander Vargas: 0-for-4
RHP Bailey Dees: (W, 1-1) 6 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 HR, 0 BB, 9 K The Yankees aren’t holding back, despite this being his first year as a starter. Tonight, he threw 90 pitches so he may not be far away from being asked to go 100. His first start was rough (3.1 IP, 8 ER), but he followed that up with a 4.1 IP/1 R start and tonight’s performance. It’s encouraging for the 6’8″ 25-year-old. LHP Ryan Anderson: 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K RHP Jack Neely (S, 2): 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K 5.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 3, BB, 10 K.
Hudson Valley (8-3) (Won a wild one over Aberdeen, 8-7)
SS Roc Riggio: 1-for-4, RS, BB .207/.400/.345 with ten walks and six strikeouts. Pesky. 2B Jared Serna: 0-for-3, RS, CS (2), 2 BB, K DH Jace Avina: 1-for-2, 2 RS, BB, HBP, K Avina earns his first hit as a member of the Yankees’ organization. C Carlos Martinez: 1-for-3, BB RF-LF Garrett Martin: 2-for-4, 2B (4), 4 RBI, RS, SB (3) .281/.361/.469 in 37 PA with nine runs batted in. 1B Josh Moylan: 0-for-3, RS, BB, 2 K CF Nelson Medina: 0-for-3, 2 K RF Anthony Hall: 0-for-1, K 3B Kiko Romero: 1-for-4, HR (1), 2 RBI, RS, 3 K Romero hit three homers in 29 games during his 2023 debut season. LF-CF Cole Gabrielson: 1-for-2, RS, CS (1), BB, HBP, K Gabrielson scored the winning run in the 9th on a wild pitch.
RHP Brian Hendry: 4 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 3 K In his first two professional starts: 9 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 4 BB, 11 K. He was last year’s 10th-round pick out of Oklahoma State. RHP Yorlin Calderon: 2 IP, 3 H. 3 R, 2 ER, 1 HR, 0 BB, 4 K LHP Joel Valdez (W, 1-0): 3 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 4 K
Tampa (3-8) (Defeated St. Lucie, 9-5. Everyone in the lineup earned at least one hit and the Tarpons stole eight bases)
SS George Lombard Jr.: 2-for-2, 2B (1), 3 RS, 3 SB (8), 4 BB An 18-year-old reaching base six times in a full-season league is eye-opening. The double is his first extra-base hit of 2024. He is hitting .244/.492/.268 and has reached base safely in all 12 games. 3B Enmanuel Tejeda: 1-for-5, 2B (1), SF, 2 RBI, RS, K Tejeda’s first extra-base hit in 2024. He is hitting .289/.320/.311 with eight RBI in 50 PA. 1B Dylan Jasso: 1-for-5, 2B (2), RS, BB, 2 K LF Coby Morales: 2-for-5, 3 RBI, RS, SB (2), K C Tomas Frick: 1-for-2, 2 RS, 2 BB, HBP, K 4-for-13 with four RBI and three runs scored. RF Daury Arias: 1-for-4, RBI, BB, SB (1), K DH Manuel Palencia: 1-for-5, RBI, SB (1), K CF Tayler Aguilar: 2-for-5, RBI, SB (3), 2 K .227/.452/.409 in 31 PA. He is 15-for-17 stealing bases in his career. 2B Brenny Escanio: 1-for-4, RS, SB (1), BB
RHP Cade Smith: 3.2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K 2.89 ERA (9.1 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 8 BB, 15 K). Last year’s 6th-round pick is off to a good enough start in his debut season. RHP Aaron Nixon: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K RHP Yoljeldriz Diaz: (W, 1-0) 1.1 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 3 K RHP Osiel Rodriguez: (S, 1) 2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 1 K Not all saves are pretty.

Yankees MILB 4/19: Trystan Vrieling: 7.2 Hitless Innings
News:
RHP Tanner Myatt was promoted to Scranton today. He entered the game tonight, but it wasn’t his Scranton debut.
IF DJ LeMahieu was supposed to be in Somerset this weekend on a rehab stint but it isn’t happening. Who knows when he will be ready?
Scranton (12-6) (Lost to Lehigh Valley, 9-3)
LF Brandon Lockridge: 0-for-5, RBI, 2 K Lockridge is in a little 0-for-14 slide. SS Caleb Durbin: 1-for-2, RS, 2 BB .303/.440/.485 in 84 PA (7 doubles, 1 triple, 1 HR, 16 RBI, 13 R, 16 BB, 8 K, 10-for-10 SB). What is there to dislike in that stat line? CF Everson Pereira: 0-for-4, 3 K There has been feast-or-famine in his profile this year. He is hitting .237/.338/.576 in 68 PA, but it comes with a 38.2% K rate. 1B T.J. Rumfield: 2-for-4, 2B (2), RBI Rumfield is 6-for-15 with two doubles since his promotion. The Yankees do not have tremendous first base depth – if anything happens to Anthony Rizzo, Rumfield could find himself in the mix. C Carlos Narvaez: 0-for-3, BB, K DH Jose Rojas: 0-for-4, K 3B Jordan Groshans: 0-for-3, BB 2B Josh VanMeter: 1-for-3, 2B (2), RS, BB, K RF Luis Gonzalez: 1-for-4, RS, 2 K
RHP Clayton Beeter: (L, 1-1) 4 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 4 BB, 5 K Beeter wasn’t throwing hard tonight, maxing at 94.9 and averaging only 91.8. These are the first runs he has allowed this season (8.1 scoreless here and one scoreless in MLB) RHP Tanner Myatt: 2 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 0 K When Myatt was drafted, there was talk about how hard he threw. However, injuries have likely sapped him of some of that. He maxed at 92.6 MPH tonight. RHP Phil Bickford: 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K RHP Duane Underwood Jr.: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 HR, 0 BB, 2 K
Somerset (6-7) (Walked it off against Hartford, 1-0)
1B Ben Rice: 2-for-4, HR (4), RBI, RS, 2 K Walk-off homer to break the scoreless tie. Rice has homered in three straight games (7-for-13, double, 3 HR). He is up to .269/.321/.519 in 56 PA. Before these three games, he was hitting .179/.256/.256. Early-season sample sizes! C Agustin Ramirez: 0-for-3, 2 K .244/.370/.711 in 54 PA. He needs to hit the ball over the fence because he isn’t having much luck when he doesn’t (.148 BABIP) CF Elijah Dunham: 1-for-2, CS (1), BB SS Ben Cowles: 0-for-3 RF Jared Wegner: 1-for-3, K .250/.302/.525 in 43 PA. 16 of his 32 career hits have gone for extra-bases (.517 SLG). Last year’s 9th-round pick (Arkansas) is 24 years old. LF Aaron Palensky: 0-for-3, K 2B Anthony Seigler: 1-for-3 3B Alexander Vargas: 0-for-3, K 0-for-11 since his promotion. When you struggle with the bat, a trip to Double-A isn’t often a cure (though pitchers in Double-A tend to have better control/command). DH Spencer Henson: 0-for-3, 2 K
RHP Trystan Vrieling: 7.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 K (100 pitches) Vrieling was brilliant tonight. His ERA through three starts is 0.48 in 18.2 IP (5 H, 1 R, 6 BB, 18 K). In case you forgot, this is his debut season. The Yankees sent the 3rd round pick in the 2022 draft (he didn’t pitch in 2023) straight to Double-A, which is not something they ever do. They knew what they were doing. RHP Kevin Stevens (W, 2-0): 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K 6.1 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 HR, 1 BB, 8 K. The 26-year-old was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2022 and missed the entire 2023 season.
Hudson Valley (8-4) (Lost to Aberdeen, 6-2)
SS Roc Riggio: 0-for-3. RS, BB If you haven’t seen his remarkable double play from last night, do it. 2B Jared Serna: 0-for-3, BB Serna is hitting only .132 (5-for-38) though he does have a 10/6 BB/K. CF Jace Avina: 2-for-3, HBP I am intrigued to see if Avina’s bat can develop beyond the power. From the scouting reports, he should be able to handle all three outfield positions. C Jose Rodriguez: 0-for-3, HBP, 2 K RF Garrett Martin: 0-for-3, HBP, K LF Anthony Hall: 1-for-2, RBI, RS, SB (1), 2 BB, K Hall entered this game struggling (2-for-27), so it is nice to see him have a good game. DH Rafael Flores: 0-for-2, HBP, 2 K 1B Kiko Romero: 0-for-3, BB, 3 K 3B Beau Brewer: 1-for-4, RBI
RHP Sebastian Keane: (L, 0-2) 4 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 4 BB, 1 K Shrug it off and move on to the next one. RHP Leonardo Pestana: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K 5.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 7 K RHP Cole Ayers: 2.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 HR, 0 BB, 1 K 7.2 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 HR, 2 BB, 10 K LHP Geoffrey Gilbert: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K 5.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 8 K. Nice start to his 2024 campaign.
Tampa (4-9) (Lost to St. Lucie, 3-1)
2B George Lombard Jr.: 0-for-4, 2 K It is rare for Lombard not to reach base. This is only the second time in 26 career games (29 if you include the 2023 playoffs) that he did not reach base. 3B Enmanuel Tejeda: 2-for-4, 2B (2), 2 K He has back-to-back games with a double after compiling zero extra-base hits in his first 11 games. He is hitting .306/.333/.347. SS Roderick Arias: 0-for-3, RS, SB (3), BB, K .170/.278/.340 in 54 PA. He is taking some time to adjust, which is hardly surprising. He has stolen three bases in his last four games. 1B Dylan Jasso: 0-for-4, 4 K LF Coby Morales: 1-for-3, 2B (1), RBI, K CF Willy Montero: 0-for-3, 2 K C Manuel Palencia: 1-for-3, K RF Tayler Aguilar: 0-for-3, K DH Edinson Duran: 0-for-3
LHP Allen Facundo: (L, 0-1) 3 IP, 0 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 1 K Facundo hit 96.7 MPH with his 4-seamer (averaged 93.3). His control has been an issue but the Yankees likely feel there is something to work with. RHP Jordy Luciano: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 3 K RHP Ocean Gabonia: 2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K Gabonia threw a 95.5 MPH sinker tonight. After walking 29 in 53.2 innings last season, he has yet to walk anyone in 5.2 (small sample size) innings this year. RHP Steven Fulgencio: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K

Don’t care about the stat line on Beeter but seeing that he was only throwing avg 91 is not good news. Vreiling is like Hampton. But they are going to take him slowly this year.

Yankees MILB 4/20: Ben Rice Homers in 4th Straight Game
News:
Nothing new.
Scranton (13-6) (Defeated Lehigh Valley, 5-2)
CF Brandon Lockridge: 1-for-4, 2 RBI, 2 K SS Caleb Durbin: 0-for-3, RS, BB In 210 career games, Durbin has a 98/79 BB/K. Starts by position: SS: 6 (7 total games); 2B: 6; 3B: 2; LF: 2 (3 total games); CF: 1 RF Everson Pereira: 1-for-3, 2B (3), RS, CS (2), BB, K Pereira continues to swat extra-base hits and his career SLG is over .500 (.505). He will require consistent MLB at-bats to see how his game translates. I am not sure if the Yankees will be the team that offers him that. DH T.J. Rumfield: 0-for-4, RBI, K 1B Carlos Narvaez: 2-for-3, SF, RBI .218/.400/.327 in 75 PA (3 doubles, 1 HR, 8 RBI, 15 BB, 16 K) C Luis Torrens: 1-for-3, 2B (2), BB, K Torrens’ first game since 4/12. LF Jose Rojas: 0-for-3, RS, BB 3B Jordan Groshans: 0-for-2, RS, BB, K 2B Josh VanMeter: 2-for-2, 2B (3), RBI, RS, SB (1), CS (1), BB VanMeter is doing his job as a depth piece (10-for-38, 3 doubles, 2 HR, 9 RBI, 8 R)
RHP Cody Poteet (W,1-0): 6.1 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 K I assume we will see Poteet again at some point this season. He throws his 4-seam fastball just hard enough to keep hitters honest. LHP Oddanier Mosqueda: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K 10.2 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 HR, 4 BB, 14 K. RHP Yerry De Los Santos: 1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 HR, 0 BB, 1 K
Somerset (6-8) (Lost to Hartford, 10-7)
CF Spencer Jones: 2-for-4, RS, SB (1), BB, K Your reminder that Jones stole 43 bases in 55 attempts (78.2%) in 2023. You hope he puts the entire puzzle together because he is a unicorn. He is now 5-for-17 with three walks. C Ben Rice: 2-for-4, HR (5), 2 RBI, 3 RS, BB, K Rice has homered in four straight games (this is also his 4th straight multi-hit game (9-for-17)). Your reminder that he hit .327/.401/.648 with 16 HR in 48 games at this level in 2023. He now has 21 HR in 61 games here. The Yankees likely kept him here to get reps behind the plate. However, the bat will make or break Ben Rice and should be the focus. Get him to Triple-A. DH Elijah Dunham: 2-for-5, HR (2), 3 RBI, RS 9-for-31 (2 doubles, 1 triple, 2 HR, 6 RBI, 4 R) 3B Ben Cowles: 2-for-5, 3B (2), RS, 2 K Cowles is hitting .347 with an annoying .999 OPS. This is his 5th multi-hit game (14th game played) 1B J.C. Escarra: 0-for-4, HBP, 2 K RF Jared Wegner: 1-for-4, BB, K LF Grant Richardson: 1-for-5, SB (3), CS (1), K 2B Aaron Palensky: 1-for-4, K SS Alexander Vargas: 2-for-4, RS, SB (1), CS (1) Vargas earns his first two Double-A hits.
RHP Blane Abeyta:(L, 0-3) 6 IP, 10 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 HR, 0 BB, 3 K RHP Luis Velasquez: 2.2 IP, 3 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 1 HR, 2 BB, 2 K LHP Ryan Anderson: 0.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
Hudson Valley (9-4) (Defeated Aberdeen, 4-3)
2B Roc Riggio: 1-for-4, HR (1), 2 RBI, RS, 2 K Riggio’s first professional home run. He hit 18 homers in 59 games for Oklahoma State in 2023. SS Jared Serna: 1-for-3, 2B (1), SF, RBI, K .146/.296/.317 in 54 PA. On the encouraging side: 7 K (12.96%) and his BABIP is .114. His numbers should start to tick up. RF Jace Avina: 0-for-1, 3 BB, K He is only 20, so we’ll see how he does in his first exposure to High-A pitching. 3B Jesus Rodriguez: 0-for-4, 2 K C Omar Martinez: 2-for-3, HR (3), RBI, RS, BB, K .316/.409/.605 in 44 PA (1 triple, 3 HR, 6 RBI, 5 R, 6 BB, 9 K). DH Garrett Martin: 0-for-1, 3 BB, K .250/.386/.417 in 45 PA 1B Josh Moylan: 0-for-2, 2 BB CF Nelson Medina: 0-for-3 LF Kyle Battle: 1-for-2, 2B (1), 2 RS, SB (1), BB Battle hasn’t been able to get into any groove, but he is 30-for-34 stealing bases in his career.
LHP Kyle Carr: 4 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 HR, 3 BB, 2 K So far, command and control have issues for Carr. He owns a 3.72 ERA in 9.2 IP (8 H, 7 R, 4 ER, 1 HR, 11 BB, 5 K) LHP Ben Shields: 3.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K 11.2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 HR, 1 BB, 14 K. This is a good start to the 25-year-old’s career. RHP Luis Arejula: (W, 1-1) 1.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 1 K
Tampa (4-10) (Lost a tough one to St. Lucie, 9-8)
DH George Lombard Jr.: 2-for-5, 2B (2), 4 RBI, RS, BB, K Lombard Jr. sets a personal best for RBI in a game. He reached base three times tonight after reaching base six times on Thursday. Crazy. There is plenty for the 18-year-old to work on but how can you not be encouraged by the start to his career? 2B Enmanuel Tejeda: 2-for-6, RBI, K Tejeda is hitting .309 (17-for-55) with a pair of doubles and 9 RBI. SS Roderick Arias: 2-for-5, 2B (4), CS (3), BB, K Six of Arias’ ten hits have gone for extra bases. 1B-3B Dylan Jasso: 1-for-2, 2B (3), 2 RS, 2 BB, HBP 3B-1B Coby Morales: 0-for-4, RS, SB (3), BB, 2 K CF Willy Montero: 2-for-4, SF, 2 RBI, 2 RS, 2 SB (4) While he isn’t in the Lombard/Arias category, Montero is an up-the-middle prospect with talent. RF Daury Arias: 1-for-3, RS, SB (2), 2 BB, K C Edinson Duran: 1-for-4, RS, HBP, 2 K LF Dayro Perez: 1-for-5, 2 SB (3), 3 K
RHP Josh Grosz: 5 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 1 HR, 1 BB, 6 K One of Grosz’s sinkers reached 96.3 MPH (70% of his pitches were sinkers). This is his most encouraging start thus far this year. RHP Cade Austin: 2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K RHP Art Warren: (L, 0-1) 0.2 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 1 K Essentially, there is a “rehab goal” for Warren right now and they were unlikely to sway from that regardless of the game situation.

Yankees MILB 4/21: Spencer Jones’ Big Day
News:
I wish I had something to report. I may need to start making things up (it works for some people on Twitter!)
Scranton (13-7) (Lost to Lehigh Valley, 7-4)
2B Caleb Durbin: 1-for-5, 2B (8), RS, K .284/.419/.459 in 93 PA (8 doubles, 1 triple, 1 HR, 16 RBI, 15 R, 17 BB, 9 K, 10-for-10 SB). He has scored a run in six straight games. CF Everson Pereira: 2-for-5, 2B (4), 3B (1), RBI, 2 RS, K Pereira’s contact tends to be loud. The double was hit 101.6 MPH while the triple was scorched (108.6). He is hitting .254/.351/.612 in 77 PA (4 doubles, 1 triple, 6 HR, 14 RBI, 13 R, 8 BB, 28 K, 2-for-4 SB) DH T.J. Rumfield: 0-for-3, SF, 2 RBI Rumfield is 6-for-22 with six RBI since his promotion (.300/.379/.360 in 58 PA) 1B Carlos Narvaez: 0-for-3, BB, K .207/.392/.310 in 79 PA. He has 11 games at catcher, four at first base, three at DH, and one at third base (only three innings) RF Jose Rojas: 0-for-2, SF, RBI, BB C Luis Torrens: 1-for-3, BB 3B Josh VanMeter: 1-for-3, BB, K SS Jeter Downs: 0-for-4 LF Luis Gonzalez: 2-for-4, 2B (3), RS, K
LHP Edgar Barclay: (L, 1-1) 4.2 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 1 HR, 3 BB, 5 K 3.06 ERA (17.2 IP, 17 H, 9 R, 6 ER, 2 HR, 11 BB, 19 K) LHP Clayton Andrews: 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K RHP McKinley Moore: 0 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 0 K He also hit a batter. Trying to unlock Moore is going to be a challenge. LHP Josh Maciejewski: 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K He was close to escaping Moore’s bases loaded, nobody out jam but allowed a 2-out run on a HBP. LHP Anthony Misiewicz: 1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 HR, 0 BB, 2 K LHP Tanner Tully: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
Somerset (7-8) (Knocked off Hartford, 8-2)
CF Spencer Jones: 3-for-4, HR (1), RBI, 3 RS, 2 SB (3), K Jones has done a lot in six games: 8-for-21 (.381; 1 double, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 7 R, 3-for-4 SB, 3 BB, 5 K) C Agustin Ramirez: 1-for-4, RBI, K .245/.362/.673 in 58 PA (7 HR, 15 RBI, 11 R, 8 BB, 12 K, 2-for-2 SB). This is the first game this year where he drove home a run in a game where he didn’t homer. DH Ben Rice: 0-for-3, RBI, HBP, K .271/.338/.542 in 65 PA (1 double, 5 HR). He has six games at C, six at DH, and two at 1B. RF Elijah Dunham: 0-for-4, 3 K 3B Ben Cowles: 1-for-4, 2B (7), K Cowles has seven doubles in 15 games. Does he think he is Earl Webb or something? 1B J.C. Escarra: 1-for-4, RS LF Grant Richardson: 1-for-4, RS 2B Anthony Seigler: 2-for-4, 2B (1), RBI, RS, CS (1), K SS Alexander Vargas: 2-for-3, 2 RBI, 2 RS After starting 0-for-11 at this level, he has back-to-back multi-hit games. If he shows any life with the bat, trade value will follow. His defense reportedly is elite-level.
LHP Brock Selvidge: 5 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 4 BB, 4 K 2.57 ERA (14 IP, 15 H, 8 R, 4 ER, 0 HR, 7 BB, 15 K). It’s far from a terrible line but it just feels as if he hasn’t yet been able to get into a groove. It’s only three starts. RHP Carlos Gomez: (W, 1-0) 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K RHP Jack Neely: 1.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K 7 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 4 BB, 10 K. This is his first non-strikeout game this season (four in 42 games in 2023). RHP Alex Mauricio: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K
Hudson Valley (9-5) (Lost to Aberdeen, 6-3)
SS Roc Riggio: 0-for-5, CS (1), 2 K 2B Jared Serna: 1-for-3, RS, BB, K CF Jace Avina: 1-for-4, 2B (1), RS, K Avina’s first extra-base hit as a member of the Yankees’ organization. C Jesus Rodriguez: 1-for-3, 2B (2), 2 RBI, RS, BB, K DH Omar Martinez: 1-for-1, RBI, 3 BB Martinez has nine walks and nine strikeouts (18.8%) in 48 PA. As I stated multiple times last year, Martinez was one of the few high-performing prospects (.251/.367/.445 with 18 HR for Tampa) who didn’t receive a promotion. Is the goal to go one level at a time? Was it a catcher crunch? We’ll find out. RF Garrett Martin: 0-for-4, SB (4), K Martin is being frisky on the basepaths! In college, his best for stolen bases in a season was seven. 1B Rafael Flores: 0-for-3, SB (1), BB, K Not surprising that his SB was on the backside of a double steal. He only has four in 119 games. 3B Kiko Romero: 0-for-4, 3 K LF Cole Gabrielson: 0-for-4, 2 K
RHP Cam Schlittler: 4 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 7 K 0.60 ERA (15 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 2 ER, 1 HR, 9 BB, 19 K) RHP Matt Keating: (L, 0-1) 3 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K They tried extending his outing to four innings and it didn’t work well. Season: 8.2 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 0 HR, 6 BB, 11 K RHP Trent Sellers: 1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K 1.86 ERA (9.2 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 0 HR, 4 BB, 17 K) RHP Yorlin Calderon: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 0 K
Tampa (4-11) (Lost to St. Lucie, 8-4)
DH Enmanuel Tejeda: 1-for-3, RS, 2 BB Tejeda walked over 20% of the time in the rookie leagues. Life is a little harder in a full-season league, as he is currently at 7.7%. That can improve as he gets more comfortable and nobody complains over a .310 start. SS Roderick Arias: 1-for-4, 3B (2), RBI, BB His K% is down to 41.5%. That may seem like something I shouldn’t brag about, but he was at 50% after Wednesday’s game. This is also the first game he hasn’t struck out in this season. He is hitting .196/.308/.393 in 65 plate appearances with seven extra-base hits (4 doubles, 2 triples, 1 home run). While Tejeda is flashing solid contact skills and Lombard Jr. is showing outstanding patience, Arias’ extra-base hits are his calling card thus far. 3B Dylan Jasso: 1-for-4, BB, 2 K .250/.443/.364 in 61 PA. 1B Coby Morales: 1-for-4, RBI, BB, K CF Willy Montero: 1-for-5, RS, K .160/.204/.180 in 54 PA. They say the jump to Double-A is the hardest but rookie league to a full-season league has its share of challenges. RF Daury Arias: 0-for-4, 2 K C Tomas Frick: 0-for-3, BB LF Tayler Aguilar: 0-for-2, RS, 2 BB, K 2B Brenny Escanio: 1-for-3, 2B (2), SF, 2 RBI Escanio has two doubles and two triples in eight games.
LHP Brady Rose: (L, 0-1) 1.1 IP, 7 H, 8 R, 7 ER, 2 BB, 2 K Rose was exceptional in his professional debut – his second appearance wasn’t quite as good. It happens. RHP Aaron Nixon: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K 9.1 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 11 BB, 11 K RHP Kris Bow: 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K Bow does a great job covering some innings. Like many prospects in the Yankees system, he is sinker-heavy (71% today). RHP Huey Morrill: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K This could have been a disaster game for the pitching staff. Good job by the three who settled the game down. Morrill reached 95.4 with his sinker.

Yankees MILB 4/23: Spencer Jones: 3 Hits, HR
News:
2B Jorbit Vivas made his organizational debut today, while IF DJ LeMahieu began his rehab stint (he was sent to Double-A for the stint). He didn’t last long in the game. It is impossible to count on him – if/when he comes back, you hope he can perform. Until that happens, you can’t include him as part of the 2024 puzzle.
OF Oscar Gonzalez, who impressed during spring training, started a rehab stint in Tampa tonight.
Scranton (13-8) (Lost to Durham, 3-2)
2B Jorbit Vivas: 1-for-4, K Vivas finally makes his Yankees’ organizational debut. Late in spring training, he suffered an orbital fracture. The Yankees acquired him (along with Victor Gonzalez) from the Dodgers for Trey Sweeney during the off-season. His ceiling? Your 2025 second baseman. But that’s a long time away and a lot will happen between now and then. LF Caleb Durbin: 0-for-4 Vivas can play some third, but it isn’t recommended. Durbin will still get reps at second base but his versatility will help him get his plate appearances. RF Everson Pereira: 0-for-4, 2 K .239/.333/.577 in 81 PA with a 9.9% BB and 37% K. 1B T.J. Rumfield: 1-for-3, 2B (3), RS, 2 K Rumfield is 7-for-25 since his promotion C Carlos Narvaez: 0-for-3, 2 K Narvaez, who would be the likely call-up if they decided to send Austin Wells down, is hitting .197/.378/.295 in 82 PA. DH Luis Torrens: 1-for-3, HR (1), 2 RBI, RS Torrens’ first homer as a member of the Yankees’ organization since 9/3/16. SS Kevin Smith: 1-for-3, K Smith cleared waivers and was outrighted back to Scranton. 3B Jeter Downs: 0-for-3, 2 K CF Brandon Lockridge: 0-for-3, 2 K
RHP Yoendrys Gomez: 3.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K Gomez threw 60 pitches today and hasn’t been asked to go deep into games. He owns a 2.92 ERA in four starts (only 12.1 innings) with 11 hits allowed and a 15/5 K/BB. RHP Phil Bickford: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K LHP Oddanier Mosqueda: 2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 HR, 0 BB, 4 K RHP Yerry De Los Santos (L, 1-1): 1.2 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
Somerset (7-9) (Lost to Reading, 10-4. It is unusual to see Somerset struggle in the wins column!)
3B DJ LeMahieu: 0-for-1, K SS Alexander Vargas: 0-for-4, K CF Spencer Jones: 3-for-5, HR (2), RBI, RS, CS (2), K Jones is 11-for-26 (.423). He has three straight multi-hit efforts (including back-to-back 3-hit games). C Agustin Ramirez: 1-for-4, 2 SB (4), BB Catchers who steal bases in the minors typically don’t steal many in the majors (Gary Sanchez stole 15 bases in 2012 and has six in his MLB career). So, enjoy them while you can! DH Ben Rice: 0-for-4, 2 K 2B Jordan Groshans: 2-for-4, RS, 2 K He was sent down here from Scranton likely due to playing time reasons (Vivas coming off the IL being the biggest culprit) 1B J.C. Escarra: 2-for-4, 2B (4), 3B (1), RS SS-3B Ben Cowles: 1-for-2, 2B (8), SF, RBI, BB, K Cowles has eight doubles in 16 games (43 doubles in 237 games before 2024, which wasn’t so bad either). He is hitting an impressive .345 with a 1.003 OPS. LF Elijah Dunham: 0-for-3 RF Grant Richardson: 0-for-2, RS, SB (4), BB, HBP, K
RHP Zach Messinger: (L, 0-2) 6 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 1 HR, 2 BB, 9 K Messinger ties his personal best for strikeouts in a game. He has a 5.48 ERA in 23 IP (20 H, 20 R, 14 ER, 4 HR, 8 BB, 27 K) RHP Kevin Stevens: 1.1 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 3 K RHP Yorlin Calderon: 0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K Calderon has made appearances for Hudson Valley, Somerset, and Scranton this year.
Hudson Valley (9-6) (Lost to Bowling Green, 7-0)
CF Jace Avina: 1-for-4 5-for-18 with a double, four walks, and four strikeouts. By the way, I am certain that Roc Riggio was in the original lineup, so I don’t know what happened there. SS Jared Serna: 0-for-3, BB 3B Jesus Rodriguez: 3-for-4 Rodriguez records his first 3-hit game this season (eight 3-hit games in 2023). He is hitting .308/.357/.404 (2 doubles, 1 HR, 5 RBI, 6 R, 3 BB, 10 K (17.9%)). In High-A, Rodriguez is hitting .330/.429/.486 in 168 PA since his promotion last year. DH Omar Martinez: 0-for-4, K LF Garrett Martin: 1-for-4, SB (5), 3 K 1B Josh Moylan: 1-for-2, 2 BB .233/.425/.333 in 40 plate appearances. C Rafael Flores: 0-for-4, 2 K RF Anthony Hall: 0-for-4, K 2B Beau Brewer: 0-for-3
RHP Baron Stuart: (L, 0-1) 4 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 4 BB, 6 K RHP Cole Ayers: 2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 4 K 1.86 ERA (9.2 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 HR, 3 BB, 14 K) RHP Leonardo Pestana: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 4 K LHP Geoffrey Gilbert: 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K 7 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 10 K. Nothing to complain about here!
Tampa (4-12) (Lost to Lakeland, 2-1)
SS George Lombard Jr.: 1-for-4, SB (9), K DH Oscar Gonzalez: 0-for-3, BB, 2 K Rehab stint for the 26-year-old. The Yankees signed him out of the Cleveland organization before this season. He missed the first several weeks due to an orbital fracture. 3B Enmanuel Tejeda: 2-for-4, K Tejeda increases his hitting streak to five (8-for-22). 2B Roderick Arias: 1-for-3, RBI, SB (4), BB, K .203/.319/.390 in 69 PA. The numbers are starting to look more respectable. 1B Dylan Jasso: 0-for-4, 2 K RF Coby Morales: 2-for-3, SB (4), BB, K CF Willy Montero: 0-for-4, K LF Jackson Castillo: 0-for-2, K Castillo’s first game since 4/9, so no need to be concerned about him leaving the game early. LF Tayler Aguilar: 0-for-1 C Manuel Palencia: 1-for-3, RS
RHP Gabriel Barbosa: 6 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 8 K His 80-pitch effort included: 20% curveballs, 19% 4-seamers, 18% sinkers, 16% changeups, 16% sliders, and 11% cutters. That is what you call a true 6-pitch mix. The Yankees grabbed him in the minor league phase of the Rule 5 and this is his best of his three 2024 starts. RHP Montana Semmel: (L, 1-1) 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 HR, 1 BB, 0 K RHP Osiel Rodriguez: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K 8.1 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 HR, 5 BB, 9 K

Yankees MILB 4/24: Will Warren Tosses 6 Strong Innings
News:
I have no news, real or otherwise..
Scranton (14-8) (Defeated Durham, 6-1)
2B Jorbit Vivas: 0-for-3, HBP, CS (1), 3 K PH-2B Josh VanMeter: 0-for-1 LF Caleb Durbin: 2-for-4, RS, 2 SB (12), BB, K Durbin was in a 4-for-34 slide after his last multi-hit game on 4/12. Hopefully, tonight’s performance puts him back on the right track. He is hitting .280/.412/.439, which shows how hot he was before his slump. RF Everson Pereira: 2-for-5, HR (7), 2 RBI, RS, 2 K Pereira has 15 homers and 49 RBI in 55 Triple-A games. 1B Carlos Narvaez: 0-for-4, BB, 3 K DH Jose Rojas: 0-for-3, RS, BB, 3 K C Luis Torrens: 2-for-4, 2B (3), K While Narvaez would be the simple move (he is on the 40-man), don’t rule out Torrens as the #3 catcher if a need ever presented itself in MLB. SS Jeter Downs: 2-for-3, HR (3), 2 RBI, 2 RS, SB (3), BB Downs’ home run was quite a blast: 427 feet at 105.9 MPH. He is hitting .265/.351/.510 in 58 plate appearances. 3B Kevin Smith: 1-for-4, RBI, RS, 2 SB (5), K CF Brandon Lockridge: 0-for-4, 3 K
RHP Will Warren: (W, 3-0) 6 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 HR, 1 BB, 6 K 4.22 ERA (21.1 IP, 14 H, 11 R, 10 ER, 5 HR, 9 BB, 26 K). When you allow five runs in 0.1 innings in your first start, it takes a while to bring the ERA down. Warren has allowed one run in 12 innings with a 13/2 K/BB over his last two starts. Tonight, he mixed all his pitches nicely: 29% sinkers, 26% sweepers, 20% 4-seamers, 14% cutters, 11% changeups. LHP Clayton Andrews: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K RHP Alex Mauricio: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K Mauricio isn’t the biggest of pitchers, but he packs some punch (maxed out at 95.7 with his 4-seamer).
Somerset (7-10) (Lost to Reading, 4-3. They had baserunners all day: 11 walks, 1 HBP, 2 errors)
CF Spencer Jones: 0-for-5, 2 K DH Agustin Ramirez: 0-for-4, BB, K Ramirez has four hits in his last eight games (4-for-26). The good news is that he has eight walks in that timeframe. 1B Ben Rice: 0-for-1, RS, 3 BB, HBP .250/.351/.500 in 74 PA. SS Ben Cowles: 2-for-4, HR (1), RBI, RS, BB After swatting eight doubles and two triples, Cowles fills in the home run column. C J.C. Escarra: 0-for-4, CS (1), BB, K 3B Jordan Groshans: 1-for-4, BB RF Elijah Dunham: 0-for-2, CS (2), 2 BB LF Jared Wegner: 1-for-4, RS, BB, K 2B Anthony Seigler: 1-for-3, 2B (2), RBI, BB
RHP Bailey Dees: (L, 1-2) 5 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 6 K Dees, who allowed eight runs in 3.1 IP in his 2024 debut, has allowed six runs in 15.1 IP since (3.52 ERA). Today was one of those days where he could have imploded but kept the runs to a minimum. RHP Carlos Gomez: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 0 K RHP Jack Neely: 1.2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
Hudson Valley (9-7) (Lost to tough one to Bowling Green, 3-2)
CF Jace Avina: 3-for-4, HR (1), 2 RBI, RS, SB (1) Avina’s first HR (and stolen base) as a member of the Yankees’ organization. Expect more as raw power is the top tool in his offensive arsenal. His RBI single in the bottom of the 8th broke the 1-1 tie, but the Renegades couldn’t hold the lead. SS Jared Serna: 0-for-3, BB Serna is now 7-for-50 with a double, two home runs, 13 walks, and eight strikeouts. The walks and strikeouts are nice – the balls need to start finding grass. 2B Jesus Rodriguez: 0-for-3, BB A new position for Rodriguez’s resume. He has now played C/1B/2B/3B/LF in his professional career (he has yet to play first base in 2024) C Omar Martinez: 1-for-4 .298/.411/.532 in 56 PA. I think Martinez gets lost in the shuffle but he is a legitimate prospect. The Yankees have a lot of them to sort through. DH Josh Moylan: 1-for-4, K 1B Rafael Flores: 0-for-4, K 3B Kiko Romero: 1-for-4, 2B (1), K CF Nelson Medina: 0-for-4, 2 K LF Kyle Battle: 0-for-2, RS, BB, K
RHP Jackson Fristoe: 3.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K The fireballer threw 50 pitches today (37 in his first start, 35 in his second (didn’t get out of the first)). They are simply building him up. LHP Ben Shields: 2.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K 0.64 ERA (14 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 HR, 2 BB, 15 K). I don’t know much about him (besides he went to UMass and George Mason), but he is doing the job. Although it is his debut season, I will note that he is 25. LHP Joel Valdez: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K 2.61 ERA (10.1 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 HR, 3 BB, 12 K). You see me writing about T.J. Rumfield often in these reports. Valdez was the other piece in the trade with the Phillies that sent Nick Nelson and Donny Sands to Philadelphia. RHP Huey Morrill (L, 0-1): 1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 HR, 0 BB, 0 K Morrill’s Hudson Valley debut (he was in Tampa) didn’t go as planned, but there’s always next time.
Tampa (4-13) (Lost to Lakeland, 14-5)
SS George Lombard Jr.: 1-for-5 RF Oscar Gonzalez: 2-for-4, HR (1), RBI, RS, BB Gonzalez didn’t miss much time in spring training so one has to assume he will make his way up to Scranton soon enough. 3B Enmanuel Tejeda: 2-fot-5, 2B (3), RS Tejeda increases his hitting streak to six (10-for-27). All three of his doubles have come during this streak. 2B Roderick Arias: 3-for-4, RS, BB, K Arias’ first career 3-hit game. He is up to .238 with a .764 OPS thanks to a 7-for-16 surge in his last four games. He has walked once in five consecutive games. 1B Coby Morales: 2-for-4, RBI, RS, HBP, K CF Willy Montero: 2-for-4, 2 2B (3), RBI, RS, BB After games of 4/12, Montero was hitting .095/.208/.143. His average is now .172. Hey, it’s a start! DH Jackson Castillo: 0-for-4, 2 K C Manuel Palencia: 2-for-4, 2 2B (3), 2 RBI, K LF Daury Arias: 0-for-4, 2 K
RHP Luis Serna: (L, 0-2) 2.2 IP, 7 H, 8 R, 8 ER, 4 BB, 2 K There’s not much you can do but move on. Season: 11.1 IP, 14 H, 13 R, 13 ER, 1 HR, 7 BB, 16 K RHP Yoljeldriz Diaz: 0.1 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 0 K RHP Ocean Gabonia: 2.2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 HR, 0 BB, 1 K RHP Art Warren: 1.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K RHP Jordy Luciano: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K

He has homered in back-to-back games after not homering in six games (rather shocking!) 1B Ben Rice: 1-for-3, 2B (3), RS, 2 BB, K .257/.382/.500 in 89 PA (3 doubles, 5 HR, 8 RBI, 16 R, 13 BB, 22 K, 2-for-2 SB) 2B Ben Cowles: 3-for-5, HR (2), 3 RBI, RS Cowles is hitting .362 with a 1.074 OPS. Hudson Valley (11-8) (Lost to Bowling Green, 3-0)
LF Jace Avina: 1-for-4, K Avina has a 5-game hitting streak (7-for-19) SS Jared Serna: 0-for-3, BB .148/.304/.279 in 79 PA. His BB/K remains strong (14/10) and his BABIP is ridiculously low (.135). A correction should come, but he must be frustrated. DH Omar Martinez: 0-for-4, K C Jesus Rodriguez: 0-for-3 Games by position: Catcher (8), 3B (5), 2B (2), LF (1), DH (1).
