When I heard the news, I was worried that he was ill. Very happy to hear that he is just tired of the grind. Enjoy your retirement, John. Hope we see him at Old-Timers Day.

DJ LeMahieu expects to begin a minor league rehab stint this weekend, possibly at Class AA Somerset. Says he’d need “probably less than 5” games to be ready to return to the Yankees lineup.

From Little_Lefty, a huge Sterling fan as am I:
John Sterling is retiring?
He is high! He is far! He is...
...caught at the wall.

Spoke with John Sterling for a few minutes today. Congratulated him on a wonderful career and he said, “Can you believe the fuss everyone is making?” I told John he deserves all of the attention because he brought so much joy to so many people. He will be missed.

One more gem from John Sterling. When I told him I was having trouble keeping up with all of the stories being written about him, he said, “Me, too. And I had to see my ugly mug on the back of some newspapers. Can you imagine?”

I am late to respond to this thread but I want to wish John the best and hope he stays healthy and enjoys his family. I have an old bottle opener that features John’s giving a walk off home run call and a huge Yannnnkeeees win vocal. I hope that opener never wears out

Sterling deserved way better than that dud of a ballgame.
