A large part of the eventual makeup of Daniel McCourt was forged by Mr. Betts and companions.
It's a good thing that Dickey, and the rest of us, never turned 30.

Sorry to hear this. Stuff like Les Brers was my kind of stuff, and reminiscent of when the Allmans would do 4-hour concerts with a surprisingly short set list. I used to pluck out my own crude version of Jessica -- not indistinguishably, of course.
RIP, Dickey. Maybe he will get to meet Elizabeth Reed.

Great guitarist loved the brothers …. Unfortunately an outdoor concert at Roosevelt stadium in Jersey was a nightmare ….. thought we had the best spot on the lawn about 100 ft from stage … everything was cool until band started playing u couldn’t move as the crowd just gradually moved closer …. I stood for about 3 hours … music was so loud my cavities were vibrating …. First and last outdoor concert in a venue like that ….after that It was never the same for me and the allmans

No one had any interest in hearing Richie play and there was little applause between songs. At the end, when the audience will typically applaud loudly hoping for an encore, there was dead silence. Then someone from the crowd yells out “Give it up Richie”. Funny as hell, but I did feel bad for him. He seemed to always be the other guy on the bands he played with.

After Springfield where he was without a doubt a third wheel cause he did write some songs there but when he left and started poco with Messina they were touted to be the next big thing they were successful but never broke through and Messina left to team up with logging poco remained in tact … after I think it was their 5 album “ a good feeling to know” which is great album but never catapulted them to the level of his former Springfield band mates … fury left to start what was supposed to be a super group with chris hillman and jd souther they made 2 albums and both were good but it didn’t work out ….after that furay became a minister and did cameos now and then …but imo all those Springfield members are legends …..if u never saw poco live u missed out …. They made about 10 albums maybe more ….. their body of work is extensive….. they just never got backed by studio and the heir music was rarely if ever played on fm radio ….seen pretty much most bands from America to zeppelin …imo the best 3 bands I’ve ever seen live were poco eagles and doobs…. I musta seen those 3 bands 25 times in total .. when poco lost Timmy Schmidt to the eagles they were essentially done and played very small venues but I still went …actually did a meet a greet with them and furay at bb kings …they were really nice guys couldn’t believe 3 Italian guys from Brooklyn were such big fans …. The eagles stole both Randy meisner and Timmy and when Walsh arrived they blew up ….but I seen the eagles at the academy of music in 72 they had 1 album out and played all of it and the new desperado album … I seen them 4 times in two days they were great even then up to that point I never seen a band sound better then the album .. ..then I got into that sound and found poco and l&m Jackson Browne fogelberg …. Sorry for the boring details but furay gets overlooked and will always remain one of my favs

Impressed with your knowledge of Richie. My older sister was a big fan of Poco (she owned all their records) and of fan of Loggins and Messina. Her high school sweetheart (future husband) introduced me to Derek and the Dominos and Allman Brothers.

Sad about Dickey. First ABB show was only time i saw him with the band, Derek was the other guitar. I saw Great Southern a couple times as well. He was always great. Saw the Brothers maybe a dozen times after and while Warren and Derek are amazing, always kinda hoped Dickey would reunite with them.

RIP Dickey. Great guitarist.
Regarding Furay and Poco, the first concert I went to in Boston was Loggins & Messina. The opening act was..... Poco! Seemed sort of strange. We speculated whether Messina might come out and play with them, but decided that would probably be insulting (and he didn't). I've long wondered whether it was Messina throwing his former bandmates a bone.
