No lead is safe in Fenway I often heard the Scooter say as he broadcast Yankee games for so many years, and the Yankee/Red Sox contest on April 18, 1950, was a perfect example. Commissioner Happy Chandler presented Ted Williams with his MVP award from the previous year on this Opening Day in Boston, and the Sox jumped on Allie Reynolds for five runs in the fourth and a 9-0 lead. But the Yanks came back, as Billy Martin garnered two hits in one inning in his first major league game (a first in the game’s history), and the Yanks prevailed 15-10, largely on the strength of a nine-run eighth inning.

Didn’t we make a similar comeback about 10 years ago on a Saturday day game in Boston. I was at a restaurant with a Yankee buddy. We were monitoring it on the phone and got pretty dejected early. On the way, listening to XM the barrage began. I think Bernie or Giambi hit a grand slam. We ended up winning something like 17-10. Lefty memory might be better on this one.

I think Swisher had a big game. I, sadly, remember this one (if it is the same one) because vee were in Philly visiting Sue's sister because their father was there, and he was dying. The last Yankee game he had ever saw. Maybe 30 years s ago there was another, but it was in the he Stadium. I was driving relatives to an event, and driving over the Washington bridge. It was killing me that I wasn't there to witness the comeback.

Yes, Tom, you're right on it - a huge late game comeback at Fenway - I think the grand slam was by Mark Teixeira.
