Who said this to mlb.com in May of 2005:
"There's no way I can go play for the Yankees, but I know they are going to come after me hard. It's definitely not the most important thing to go out there for the top dollar, which the Yankees are going to offer me. It's not what I need."

Let's put it this way. If Bubba Crosby joins the board, he will join you and Patton at BTB as the least in favor of this guy's "pinstriping."
YANKEE BASEBALL!!!

And to think that only a short time ago, there were many more on this board who didn't want Damon in pinstripes, either. I wonder where they are now?

I can't speak for anyone else. I wanted Vernon Wells. And I would have glady settled for a platoon of Bubba and Jason Michaels, or even Bubba with Melky waiting in the wings, rather than fall victim to the Boras seven-year hijack. I was sure that Boston would match where we ended up, and that under those circumstances Damon would have followed up on the quote.
But I'm OK with the way it ended up (particularly with the minus in Boston's center field too).
YANKEE BASEBALL!!!

Bernz's Bottom line
I DID NOT want Damon, but I got him. He plays CF for 2 or 3 years, and does the rest as the DH/1b...I CAN Live with it.
He is now on My Team, I'm going to root for him with all the fervor I've rooted for every other Yankee during my life except for:
Ken Holtzman & Kevin Brown
Real short list, and you have to work very hard to get on it.
Who's playing CF for the Sox? Perhaps they can invite Jim Rice to ST if he is not voted into the hall this year?
Maybe YOU GUYS can make a trade for Milton Bradley? Talk Raul Modesi out of retirement (exile).

(Though I rooted for Kevin Brown to stay on the DL for the rest of last year...... he came through for me ). It is time for my tribute to RSN regarding Damon: Get over it. Did Damon say he wouldn't play for NY?? Did Clemens say he was retiring?? The answer to both questions is, of course, Yes. The only real difference is that the Yankees had no opportunity to re-sign Clemens. Sure, there is the Imaginary line of thought that Damon betrayed the red sox....... but who betrayed who?? Niner--Were the trade talks boston had for Coco Crisp and Jeremy Reed BEFORE THE YANKEES MADE THEIR OFFER TO DAMON real......or are they just part of the Evil Empire's conspiracy to discredit a wonderful red sox organization that would NEVER let a key player like Damon, Clemens, or Pedro leave?? Please put a spin on the trade talks boston had for CF...... or deny them completely..... otherwise, the "Damon betrayed us" arguments are laughable. P.S. Keep denying that Damon asked for a contract extension before....and during the 05' season. You might as well go ahead and deny that Manny advised Damon to leave......I suppose that was part of the Evil Empire's conspiracy, too ..............

I made no secret of counting myself among those dead set against a Damon signing. Pitching and defense wins championships, and Johnny doesn't bring either one with him.
But as Bernz has stated, he is now a Yankee, and that changes the landscape dramatically.
I am now totin' a Johnny Damon fan club card. You can buy them pretty cheaply hereabouts nowdays.

I stopped in the Yankee store at the Cathedral when I made my annual birthday pilgrimage a week ago. I'm sure it will come as no surprise to anyone that Mr. Damon shirts et al are displayed everywhere. It may take time for some before he arrives in their hearts, but as for the marketing angle: You mean he played for other teams? YANKEE BASEBALL!!!

I may have been the only...at least first...voice on the board hoping we'd get Damon. I was fully prepared to go to 6 years for him...but to see the ESPN Bottomline scroll creep slowly across my screen with the news that
"Johnny Damon signs a 4 yr deal with the...NEW YORK YANKEES"
I almost stepped on my sleeping dog "Jeter" to get to BTB and say "YEAH!!!!"

Ironically, our centerfielder said he wouldn't play for the Yankees and you're left fielder said he WANTED to play for the Yankees.
It's hard to keep these things straight

You gotta let this go 9er...you are like a jilted lover- John Damon broke your heart into little pieces didn't he? Cheer up- I hear Jeremy Reed has been letting his hair and beard go all Winter.
In this age of "read my lips- no new taxes and I did not have sex with that women" you'd think you'd be used to it.

KC Royals and Oakland A's fans seem toreally like and appreciate all he did for them...Sox fans? not so much.
I'm still waiting for the first YES commercial

I suppose...only two males have ever broken my heart in my life...my dog (who had the audacity to die after 16 years) and Andy Pettitte...but through high dollar counseling I got through it.
Andy who?
I can't imagine what it would be like seeing Pettitte in a Red Sox uniform...man, what you must be going through. ;o)
