John Flaherty retires because he is a classy guy who knows that rather than to embarrass himself and his teammates, it's time to hang them up. I'm glad, because I wasn't too comfortable with him in a Red Sox uniform after having played for us the last couple of years. Wish him all the best! I'm sure that he'll make a fine coach and maybe, as Girardi, come back to manage. Catchers usually make the best managers....

I tip my Yankee cap to Mr. Flaherty as well. I think he served well as our backstop backup, and hope his anemic offensive year in '05 does not give his service too negative an impression among Yankee fans.
I know John started with the Sox, but I'm glad that he did not join the opposition in this great rivalry for the '06 season.
I'm also not sure what board this should have been on. I'm still waking up from Tampa. But I think the discussions here on all boards heve been pretty good. I'm excited Metsie's been around, and that we have a vibrant nonYankee community going.
But the Damon thread just goes to show we all need the real games to begin, and soon.
Sorry to go on so.
Flash, I salute you. I'll think of you every time I cross the Tappan Zee into Rockland County.
YANKEE BASEBALL!!!
