From Rotoworld. What in the world is going on Invasion of the Body Snatchers?? Good move, Bowden...... or whoever you REALLY are...... *************************************************************** Nationals agreed to terms with first baseman Nick Johnson on a three-year, $16.5 million contract extension through 2009. It doesn't happen often, but this is a great move from GM Jim Bowden. Johnson's is probably always going to be injury prone, but as one of the NL's better first baseman when healthy, he's well worth $5.5 million per year. If he had managed to play in 150 games this year and put up a .300/.400/.500 season, he likely would have received at least $32 million over four years as a free agent. Under the terms of the deal, the last year of the contract becomes a player option if Johnson is traded within the next two years. Mar. 11 - 1:26 pm et

Hard to believe, but if those chimps on the typewriters eventually can come up with Shakespeare, I guess Bowden can get one thing right every 2 years or so.

With Johnson's history of going on the DL, we can only hope that this will wind up being a good deal.

Sad to say, but if Nick is healthy enough to play 120-130 games, $5.5M/year is probably a "fair" salary. If only I could get 10% of that to work 3/4 time.
