For right now I'm glad David Price went to the Rays and was available to come in against Nancy Drew in the eighth and squealch the rally. I'm sure I'll regret when he starts showing up regularly against the Yanks, but he's a great kid and has a magic left arm. He did the same stuff for Vanderbilt when he was there. Maddon showed something putting a kid in a spot like that with the bases loaded. I'll let you guys discuss what he showed with that decision but it worked out.

Well, David came through in a big way. Now that everybody has seen the fact he's got Number 1 type stuff, don't you think the Rays should keep him in the bullpen? He's proven himself there now and no sense taking any chances with such a golden arm.
Also, anybody else see a correlation between the fact the Devil disappeared from Tampa Bay's name and the fact they're going to the Series? I'm wondering if Joe Maddon made a deal with the actual devil somehow for this golden season. If you kind of squint your eyes up, Maddon looks a little like Joe Hardy + 40 years with Buddy Holly glasses. Just a thought or else a conspiracy theory.
Congratulations to the artists formerly known as the Devil Rays.

Good point with the "keep him in the pen" comment donc...where is all the uproar about Price staying in the pen?
They have Price, we have Joba- GAME ON.

With no Manny in the lineup for the full year, DoorMat not likely to be as lucky as he was, Coward-Tek in full collapse (is he back next year?), and a pen as shaky as the Rays, the BoSox will be in that fight, too.

In light of Patton's ugly, vicious, and shocking racist comments about Joba the other day I think the title of this post is insensitive. Please revise it. Thanks

Point well taken. If I could figure out how to change it. But I'm afraid if I change it to "My Vandy Guy" I'll get grief from those who guard against PC violations for another protected class. If I change it to "My Vandy Goyim" I'll get ridiculed for being a dumb southerner who knows nothing about Jewish phrases.
Phil, could you change the title to "My Vandy Something Appropriate Whom I Used to Watch Pitch"?

we have our work cut out for us in the AL East, boys... You heard it here first: The TB Rays will NOT be the team to beat next season, because their arms will be dead. Shields, Garza, Sonnenstine, Kazmir....all of them will have problems maintaining throughout the long 2009 campaign. Young arms always have difficulty the following season, after throwing alot of innings. As far as congrats to them for winning the pennant...screw them! Enjoy it now, Rays....because you won't be back.

Enjoy it now, Rays....because you won't be back. Actually, this was Kazmir's year to struggle after hitting 200+ innings last year. Shields has pitched 200+ innings 2 years in a row now. Jackson only increased 20 innings over last year, it's unlikely he'll have trouble next year. Sonnenstine and Garza did have a big increase this year and may struggle next year. Given the questions the Yankees still have with their rotation (Mussina and/or Andy back? CC? Burnett? Lowe (please no)?), and the Red Sox with theirs - Lester had a huge increase in innings pitched this year (thus, according to your theory, will struggle next year), DoorMat was more lucky than good this year (if he walks more than 1/2IP, I predict his ERA is much higher), Beckett is fragile and inconsistent, Buchholz looks like he's not that good - who is the team to beat in the East next year?
