Yankees save $30.5M in payroll luxury tax calculation. Here comes Tanaka! I never felt these two were really linked. Hal knows he needed to go all out for Masahiro. Yankees ticket revenue declined from $390M to $295M last year. Enough said.

Just realized Yankees don't need to insure his contract for 2014. That's got to be a few million saved.

..can the Yanks parlay this into voiding the remainder of A-Rod's contract ?? No! A contract is a contract and that's the way it should be. On the grounds that it may set an unmanageable precedence with constructing future players contracts, I might agree. But on principle, I do not. I am of the understanding that all contracts have a moral clause, which if broken give the team some options. Not sure what the language is in A-Rod's contract but this ruling is an indication of him doing wrong to the point that he earned suspension from the very game that he was contracted to play. So, I would think a team should have avenues to pursue voiding the original contract. Compare with a senior company employee caught drinking or taking drugs on the job or a tenured University faculty caught plagiarizing. How long do you think it will take for them to get fired ?...faster than a NY minute, my friend
