I thought this was a given...and that Andujar would play 3B.

I thought this was a given...and that Andujar would play 3B. Torres at 2B is the right spot for him for 2018. Andujar I don’t think is MLB Ready for April. We’ll see.

I don't think Cash is going to empty the toy box for Machado. He's very good, but he's not that good. what would your definition of THAT good, be? hes pretty consistently 290-30-90 and a gold glover (as a 22,23,24 year old...) Try .279-29-86. His slash line (a better measure of production) is .279/.329/.476. For comparison, Alex Bregman is .279/.342/.476. Virtually identical. Jose Ramirez is .290/.345/.465. Machado has won 2 GGs (at 20 and 22) in 5 years. Like I said, very good, but not good enough to give up 4-5 top prospects.

Right. If the O's can't (or won't because Angelos is too cheap) sign Machado, I suspect they'll deal him at the deadline, to extract maximum return. Do you do the deal if it doesn't have to include Torres, but means it's 4-5 other top prospects, e.g., Andujar, Abreu/Sheffield, Florial, Estrada, Adams? That's just too high a price, IMO. but they aren't gonna get much for a 6 week rental...they'd get max right now- if the acquiring team loses him to FA they at least get a compensatory draft pick Either now or at the deadline, any decent return is going to depend on the acquiring team being able to sign him long term. No team is going to trade multiple top prospects for a compensatory pick. At the deadline, the O's have more leverage.

I realize that this is a concern...is he ready...and of course only boots on the ground really know. They say his D needs some work and of course he's had only 7 ML at bats. I would be willing to give him a shot knowing he'd be hitting 9th probably...and his development on D would best improve with us, I would think. I'm all about give these 2 kids a shot at 3B and 2B what the hell! I doubt Cash would take that chance though...I expect him to get someone on a one-year deal, Todd Father or otherwise.

I don't think Cash is going to empty the toy box for Machado. He's very good, but he's not that good. I live in a bizarre and unfortunate circumstance whereby I am blacked-out from Orioles games (thus, whatever-teen Yankee games), even though I am over 500 miles from Kramden. I mention that to say that I have not seen Machado play that much. I'm just seeing an average of 30/90 over the last three years (30/95 over the last two) against a lot of AL East pitching from a 25-year-old that has a couple of Gold Gloves. There's no maybe about him, which can't be said for even Torres. So if Cashman could manage to swing both Machado and Torres in the same lineup, what would that be worth to him? For one, it would instantly make some highly-developed infielders expendable. Also, if you assume mostly DH for Stanton and Judge as the forever right fielder, then there are two outfield spots that could ever be winnable and more than that number of top OF prospects. Also, I hate to lose any arms ever, but Yanks could pinch one off if they had to. Its Winter Meetings ... there could be a three-way, so Cashman and Duquette don't have to look at each other ... ya never know.

Gleaned from this thread:
- Yanks projecting Torres as 2B.
- Headley dealt, Frasier likely not coming back.
- Andujar not quite ready.
- Machado on the block.
So you either start with Torreyes at 3rd and place your faith in the coming Andujar, or you pull the trigger on an established all-star in his early prime.
Hmmm ... what would Steiny do?

Saw report Yanks, along with other teams, were kicking the tires on Nune5. He could teach Andujar how to play 3rd!

... there are other options besides Machado and Miguel..Cash talking to DBacks about a guy they have. There are always options, but few (I can think of only one) that are 30/90 three years running against the same pitching they would be facing with us; Gold Gloves aside. It's trading potential to obtain certainty. Do we think it unlikely that he will produce the same way at the plate for another 5-7 years while contributing top-level defense? How many other infielders can practically guarantee that? I can understand a strategy of standing pat and letting the youth movement continue to work more than swapping upsides with another team. Then again, I didn't see Didi coming. (Wasn't he also with the D-backs?)
