Houston’s starting pitching has been good this year. I thought Brown would be like hitting batting practice. Boy was I wrong! France is a late bloomer. Already 28 and only played one-year in the big leagues. Pretty good year last year.

Agree, we’ve clobbered their bullpen.

Aaron Boone said he wants to eventually get Jon Berti into the lineup, “but I think everyone can understand the situation a little bit.”
Oswaldo Cabrera is making it impossible to take him out of the lineup.

Houston’s starting pitching has been good this year. I thought Brown would be like hitting batting practice. Boy was I wrong! France is a late bloomer. Already 28 and only played one-year in the big leagues. Pretty good year last year. Yanks have not been teeing off on Houston starters, but they have been patient and got pitch counts up to bring in the pen. Valdez, Javier and Brown threw 86, 90 and 88 pitches, respectively, which is probably the most you can expect in a first start, but it only got them through 4.2, 6.0 and 4.0. Of those 86/90/88 pitches, only 45/56/58 were strikes. Again, first start, command not there yet, but Yanks weren't biting. That's a big difference so far over last year -- they're not chasing like they had been. Keep it up, boys.

Anthony Volpe was scratched with an "upset stomach." There's been a lot of that going around since the Mexico City trip (including the press box). Bryan Hoch

Anthony Volpe (illness) scratched from today’s lineup. Oswaldo Cabrera will play SS. Jon Berti in at 3B.

Boy, following the nonreversal of the McNeil play 2 days ago, that's the second super quick replay call I've seen this year.

Clarke Schmidt's sinker averaged 93.5 mph last year. Today, in line with what he showed all spring, it has averaged 95.4 mph.
Schmidt is through five innings of one-run ball.
