Yankees MILB 6/22: Brock Selvidge Ks 10
POSTED ON JUNE 22, 2023 BY ADMIN News:
C Ben Rortvedt‘s stint on the IL didn’t last long as he was in the Scranton lineup tonight. The Railriders are now carrying four catchers (Rortvedt, Rodolfo Duran, Carlos Narvaez, and Josh Breaux). They can use the 1B and DH slots to help distribute some at-bats (Rortvedt, Narvaez, and Duran all played tonight), but they also need to make sure these players get in their time behind the plate as well.
SS Oswald Peraza missed his third straight game this evening. OF Everson Pereira (Somerset) is still out of the lineup, as well.
Since they had a need for additional bodies in Scranton, UTIL Max Burt was promoted to Scranton. Drafted in the 28th round in the 2018 draft out of Northeastern, Burt is an organizational utility player. This isn’t his first stint in Scranton (played 36 games back in 2021). When I see a player like Burt, I think of someone you are going to see coaching, scouting, or whatever they wish to do in baseball some day.
Scranton (33-39) (Lost to Buffalo, 2-1, in ten innings)
LF Estevan Florial: 1-for-4, HR (19), RBI, RS, K .296/.385/.619. After hitting 9 HR in May, he has 7 in June. That said, he hasn’t been on top of his game in June. He is only 18-for-74 (.243) with four walks and 22 strikeouts. He walked 15 times in May, so his discipline has taken a bit of a fall. 3B Andres Chaparro: 0-for-4 .238/.311/.457 in 289 PA with 12 doubles, 14 homers, and 43 RBI. C Ben Rortvedt: 0-for-2, BB, HBP, K DH Carlos Narvaez: 0-for-3, BB, K CF Elijah Dunham: 0-for-4, 3 K 1B Rodolfo Duran: 1-for-4, 2 K 2B Jamie Westbrook: 0-for-4, K SS Jesus Bastidas: 1-for-4, 2 K, SB (5) RF Brandon Lockridge: 1-for-4, K, CS (1)
LHP Tanner Tully: 6 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K 3.91 ERA (69 IP, 81 H, 33 R, 30 ER, 7 HR, 16 BB, 63 K). Doing his job eating some Triple-A innings. LHP Matt Krook: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K RHP Michael Gomez: (L, 0-3) 2.1 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 2 K
Somerset (40-25) (Defeated New Hampshire, 4-3, in 14 innings)
SS Trey Sweeney: 1-for-4, HR (9), 2 RBI, RS, BB Sweeney has four home runs in his last five games. This home run tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the 11th. LF Jasson Dominguez: 0-for-5, BB, K His average has fallen back down to .198. I think everyone should have at least SOME level of concern, right? He hasn’t shown much progress as the season has gone along. It’s not like the Yankees are loaded with upper-level OF prospects, especially if Everson Pereira is going to go down to injury every year. DH Austin Wells: 2-for-5, 2B (9), BB, K Wells is surprisingly hitting only .247 at this level, but you still feel confident that he has conquered Double-A. Some of that is due to the power he has shown (9 doubles, 9 HR in 38 games). 3B Tyler Hardman: 0-for-6 Eeeeeeek. RF Aaron Palensky: 0-for-5, RS, BB, K Palensky scored the winning run on a balk in the 14th. C Anthony Seigler: 0-for-3, 3 BB All three walks were intentional. Whatever helps the OBP! 1B Eric Wagaman: 0-for-5, BB, K CF Jeisson Rosario: 0-for-5, BB, 2 K 2B Delvin Perez: 1-for-5, HR (2), RBI, 2 RS, BB, 4 K I brought up his Top 100 status yesterday. In case you are wondering, he never lived up to it because the bat simply never developed. He can run and play multiple positions (though he is mostly a SS) and that perhaps can get him some MLB time down the road.
RHP Richard Fitts: 6 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 7 K 3.91 ERA (71.1 IP, 68 H, 32 R, 31 ER, 10 HR, 15 BB, 80 K). Fitts has been rolling lately. This was his 13th start of 2023 – if you believe in patterns (and you should at least pay attention to them), he made 17 starts in Tampa in 2022 before being promoted to Hudson Valley for his final five starts. RHP Zac Houston: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K 9 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 1 HR, 9 BB, 17 K. LHP Lisandro Santos: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 1 K RHP Tanner Myatt: 2.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 K RHP Justin Wilson: (W, 3-1) 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K 3.86 ERA (25.2 IP, 21 H, 12 R, 11 ER, 16 BB, 26 K)
Hudson Valley (39-27) (Lost to Brooklyn, 5-1)
CF Spencer Jones: 0-for-4, 2 K, SB (17) .280/.338/.519 in 263 PA with 17 stolen bases in 20 attempts (85%). SS Alexander Vargas: 0-for-4, 2 K .208/.265/.358 in 230 PA. In the FSL last season, he hit .203/.271/.311. He started the season very promising but has fallen down rather quickly. He is 7-for-62 in June with 23 strikeouts. 1B Rafael Flores: 1-for-4, 2B (10), K DH Anthony Garcia: 0-for-4, 2 K C Antonio Gomez: 2-for-4, HR (3), RBI, RS, K Gomez is up to .247 as he improves his June numbers to 17-for-46 (.370) with four doubles and two home runs. A reason for optimism? I will take anything – he is still only 21 as a catcher in High-A ball. 2B Ben Cowles: 1-for-4, 2B (8) LF Grant Richardson: 0-for-4, 2 K RF Aldenis Sanchez: 1-for-3, 2 K 3B Eduardo Torrealba: 0-for-1, BB
LHP Joel Valdez: 3 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 5 BB, 7 K 5.94 ERA (47 IP, 39 H, 33 R, 31 ER, 6 HR, 35 BB, 48 K). RHP Luis Velasquez: 1.2 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, HR Since promotion: 6 IP, 8 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 1 HR, 5 BB, 8 K RHP Bailey Dees: 2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K 2.20 ERA (28.2 IP, 15 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 2 HR, 10 BB, 44 K). It is always a bit of a crapshoot trying to figure out which of these big relief arms will become viable MLB relievers. As an organization, you want to keep churning them out. If only a few of them pan out, it’s a win. LHP Clay Aguilar: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K 2.93 ERA (15.1 IP, 8 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 0 HR, 9 BB, 25 K). Can’t ask for much more.
Tampa (31-35) (Swept in a doubleheader by Ft. Myers)
Game 1 (Lost, 2-0)
2B Jared Serna: 0-for-2, BB, CS (5) CF Anthony Hall: 0-for-3, K C Agustin Ramirez: 0-for-3 DH Daury Arias: 0-for-2, BB SS Brenny Escanio: 2-for-3, K His hitting streak reaches 7 (four multi-hit games) 3B Jesus Rodriguez: 0-for-3, K 1B Omar Martinez: 0-for-2 RF Tayler Aguilar: 0-for-2 LF Jake Palmer: 0-for-2
RHP Leonardo Pestana (L, 0-3): 3.2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K 4.50 ERA (30 IP, 29 H, 16 R, 15 ER, 4 HR, 15 BB, 39 K) RHP Kris Bow: 3.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 3 K 7.41 ERA (17 IP, 19 H, 15 R, 14 ER, 1 HR, 16 BB, 16 K). I will keep reminding you that he gave up 11 runs (10 earned) in 2.2 innings in his first two starts.
Game 2 (Lost, 7-6, in 9 innings)
2B Jared Serna: 1-for-5, 2B (13), RBI, RS .304/.368/.520 in 277 PA. CF Anthony Hall: 3-for-5, 2B (8), HR (5), 2 RBI, 2 RS, K .278/.394/.438 in 203 PA. He is now 20-for-68 (.294/.380/.500) in June after his crazy May. SS Brenny Escanio: 3-for-4, HR (1), 2 RBI, 2 RS, BB I would say that five hits in a doubleheader qualify as a good day. His hitting streak reaches 8 (five multi-hit games). Overall, he is still only hitting .230/.322/.293 in 259 PA. DH Agustin Ramirez: 0-for-4, K LF Christopher Familia: 2-for-4, 2B (6), RBI, K Familia is now 28-for-73 (.384) with six doubles, two triples, ten home runs, and 29 RBI. He has nine multi-hit games (18 games played) C Omar Martinez: 0-for-4, 2 K PR-C Jesus Rodriguez: 0-for-0 RF Tayler Aguilar: 0-for-4, 2 K 1B Ronny Rojas: 0-for-3, BB, K 3B Beau Brewer: 0-for-2, RS, 2 BB
LHP Brock Selvidge: 6 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 10 K, HR 3.65 ERA (61.2 IP, 57 H, 29 R, 25 ER, 3 HR, 15 BB, 74 K). Selvidge is only 20, so they don’t really need to rush him to Hudson Valley – but he has done a solid job. His ten strikeouts tonight set a new personal high (the previous high was 8, which he accomplished in each of his three starts prior to tonight) RHP Manny Ramirez: 1 IP, 1 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 1 K RHP Cole Ayers: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K RHP Matt Keating: (L, 5-5) 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K 3.14 ERA (28.2 IP, 25 H, 14 R, 10 ER, 2 HR, 16 BB, 45 K)
FCL Yankees (8-5) (Lost to the Tigers, 5-4)
2B Keiner Delgado: 1-for-3, 2B (4), 2 BB Rookie League disclaimer applies, but he now owns a 70/35 BB/K ratio in 301 career plate appearances. SS Roderick Arias: 1-for-4, RS, BB, K, 2 SB (7) Arias is 7-for-17 in his last four games (0-for-18 in his previous five games) RF Willy Montero: 2-for-4, 2B (4), BB, K 15-for-44 (.341) with four doubles. DH Hans Montero: 0-for-3, RS, 2 BB, K, SB (4) I just love crazy lines like .298/.508/.614 in 63 PA. C Edinson Duran: 2-for-3, RS, HBP, SB (1) 12-for-26 (.462). He is 20 years old.
RHP Ryan Harvey: 2.2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 7 K, HR 2.38 ERA (11.1 IP, 11 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 HR, 2 BB, 16 K) RHP Jordarlin Mendoza: 4 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K 9.2 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 HR, 8 BB, 12 K
DSL Bombers (8-5) (Lost to Rangers Blue, 12-11)
SS Juan Matheus: 1-for-5, 2 RBI, 2 K, SB (11) Matheus’ 11 stolen bases lead the DSL. 2B Gabriel Terrero: 1-for-3, 2B (4), 2 RS, 2 BB, SB (5) Terrero is on an 8-game hitting streak (he has hit safely in nine of his ten games) CF Gabriel Lara: 1-for-5, HR (2), 3 RBI, RS 11-for-36 with nine walks and six strikeouts. He is 17 years old (debut season) 1B David Beckles: 2-for-4, 2B (3), HR (1), RBI, 2 RS, BB, K LF Abrahan Ramirez: 0-for-3, 2 RS, 2 BB, 2 SB (3) RF Luis Puello: 2-for-5, RBI, RS The 17-year-old is 8-for-31 (.258) with six walks and seven strikeouts in his debut season
DSL Yankees (10-2) (Lost to Rangers Red, 4-3)
CF Brando Mayea: 2-for-5, 2B (3), RS, K, SB (2) 7-for-16 (.438) in his first five professional games. C Josue Gonzalez: 1-for-2, HR (1), 3 RBI, RS, 3 BB, K, 2 SB (2) The 19-year-old (second year at this level) is 10-for-27 with 15 RBI in eight games. He has 12 walks and six strikeouts. SS Santiago Gomez: 1-for-2, 2B (4), 2 BB, K, SB (7) Also 19, Gomez is 11-for-32 with a pair of home runs and 13 RBI.
RHP Sabier Marte: 3.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K Marte is another big kid (6’5″). Unlike many of their bigger pitchers, he thus far hasn’t run into major control issues (47/7 K/BB in 38.2 career innings)

There is also some level of concern on Peraza’s injury and they won’t share what that is but one report I saw the ankle injury he sustained at his last game with NY, may have been too quick to return thus probably not heal properly. But again they are not saying what the injury is.
I would say now there is a great level of concern on Jasson not showing much progress at this stage.
Need OFs in the draft….

I heard he has shoulder problems but that hasn’t been confirmed by the Yankees. That could explain his hitting drop off when he was playing.

Yankees MILB 6/24: Andres Chaparro Hits a Slam
POSTED ON JUNE 24, 2023 BY ADMIN News:
I have expressed some concern about OF Jasson Dominguez‘s struggles in Double-A. While some of the numbers aren’t good, remind yourself of this: Dominguez made his Double-A debut in 2022 at the age of 19. At 19, Ezequiel Duran was struggling down in Pulaski (at the time, a Yankees’ short-season affiliate) as he hit .201/.251/.311 (48 wRC+; 3.8% BB, 28.7% K). He started to take off in 2019 and was eventually a part of the package for (ugh) Joey Gallo in 2021.
No two prospects are the same. I am not trying to convince you that Dominguez is fine because of what Duran has become. What I am trying to say is that we have to be patient sometimes. “We” includes “me.”
A report from Kiley McDaniel indicates that the Yankees may treat the 2023 MLB draft like they did the 2014 international signing period. Essentially, ignore the rules (well, more like not caring about the rules), load up on premium high school talent, and accept the penalties.
Instead of laying all this out, here is a good thread (courtesy of Bobby Milone):
Yankees to blow up the draft?
Scranton (34-39) (Defeated Buffalo, 7-3)
DH Estevan Florial: 1-for-3, RS, BB, K C Ben Rortvedt: 1-for-3, 2 RBI, 2 RS, BB 3B Andres Chaparro: 2-for-4, 3B (2), HR (15), 5 RBI, 2 RS, K Chaparro’s grand slam is his 4th HR in his last five games. The five RBI represent a new personal best. Overall, he is hitting .240 with 12 doubles, 2 triples, 15 HR, 48 RBI, and 46 runs scored. RF Elijah Dunham: 0-for-4, 2 K 1B Rodolfo Duran: 0-for-4, 2 K 2B Jamie Westbrook: 0-for-4 LF Michael Hermosillo: 1-for-2, RS, 2 BB, K SS Jesus Bastidas: 1-for-4, 3 K CF Brandon Lockridge: 1-for-3, 2 RS, K, SB (3) Lockridge is 20-for-23 in the SB department between here and Somerset. At the very least, he offers speed and defense. He is hitting well this season, especially during his Somerset stint.
RHP Mitch Spence: 6 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 6 K, HR 4.93 ERA (76.2 IP, 79 H, 48 R, 42 ER, 15 HR, 31 BB, 64 K) RHP Matt Bowman: 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K LHP Josh Maciejewski: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K At this level: 6 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 7 K RHP Greg Weissert: 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K
Somerset (42-25; they have already clinched a playoff berth courtesy of a first-half title) (Defeated New Hampshire, 3-1)
SS Trey Sweeney: 0-for-3, BB CF Jasson Dominguez: 1-for-3, RS, BB, 2 K C Austin Wells: 1-for-4, 2B (10), RBI, 2 K Wells has ten doubles and ten home runs in 40 games for Somerset this year. 1B T.J. Rumfield: 1-for-3, 2B (6), HBP, K 3B Tyler Hardman: 1-for-4, 2 K DH Anthony Seigler: 0-for-4 LF Aaron Palensky: 0-for-2, RS, BB, HBP, SB (5) Palensky is 15-for-16 in the stolen base department between here and Hudson Valley. He is hitting .231/.447/.442 in 21 games since his promotion. RF Jeisson Rosario: 1-for-3, 2 K 2B Delvin Perez: 1-for-3, 2 K
RHP Chase Hampton: 5.2 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K It only took him 67 pitches to get these 17 outs. My hope is that they wanted Ian Hamilton to pitch in a middle of an inning before they call him up from his rehab. RHP Ian Hamilton (W, 2-1): 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K One has to assume he is close to returning. No need to do that on Sunday, since he won’t be used anyway. RHP Blas Castano: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K As expected, his appearance with Scranton was a one-off. RHP Alex Mauricio (S, 3): 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K Mauricio continues his recent stretch of strong pitching.
Hudson Valley (39-29; they have already clinched a playoff berth courtesy of a first-half title) (Lost to Brooklyn, 2-0)
DH Spencer Jones: 0-for-3, BB, K, SB (18) Jones has 30 stolen bases in 84 professional games. SS Ben Cowles: 0-for-3, BB, K .257/.343/.399 in 210 PA. After a strong May, he is struggling in June (14-for-64 (.219)). 1B Rafael Flores: 1-for-2, 2 BB, K .292/.354/.366 in 223 PA. LF Anthony Garcia: 1-for-4, 2 K C Antonio Gomez: 1-for-4 .247/.317/.360 in 211 PA (12 doubles, 3 HR, 22 RBI, 23 R, 16 BB, 63 K). His strong June has returned him to some respectability. RF Grant Richardson: 0-for-4, 2 K CF Aldenis Sanchez: 0-for-4, 3 K 3B Marcos Cabrera: 0-for-3, K 2B Eduardo Torrealba: 1-for-2, BB, K
RHP Juan Carela: (L, 2-3) 6 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 6 K The 21-year-old now sports a 3.03 ERA in 62.1 IP (43 H, 26 R, 21 ER, 2 HR, 22 BB, 78 K). Yes, you are looking at a legitimate prospect. As I have said before, I like to look at patterns: Carela threw 99.1 innings for Tampa before being moved to Hudson Valley last season. He is at 90.1 innings for Hudson Valley. Let’s see if they give him a taste of Somerset sometime in the second half. RHP Jack Neely: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K 2.35 ERA (30.2 IP, 16 H, 10 R, 8 ER, 2 HR, 14 BB, 46 K). It comes as no surprise that the 6’8″ 23-year-old is blazing through this level.
Tampa (33-35) (Defeated Ft. Myers, 9-7)
2B Jared Serna: 0-for-4, RS, BB That rare sight of Serna dropping below .300 (.298). The last time he was under .300 at the end of a game was on May 2. He went 3-for-4 with a double and a home run on May 3. DH Anthony Hall: 2-for-5, HR (7), 4 RBI, RS, K Hall has homered in three straight games. This home run turned a 6-5 deficit into a 7-6 lead in the bottom of the 8th. He is now hitting .287/.396/.472 in 212 PA with 32 walks and 42 strikeouts. C Agustin Ramirez: 1-for-5, RS, K LF Christopher Familia: 3-for-4, 2B (7), HR (11), RBI, 3 RS, HBP, K In 20 games, Familia is hitting .400 (32-for-80) with 7 doubles, 11 HR, 30 RBI, and 24 runs scored. Video game numbers. SS Brenny Escanio: 1-for-3, SF, RBI, RS, BB, K, SB (15) 3B Jesus Rodriguez: 1-for-3, BB, SB (8) .299/.385/.441 in 206 PA. CF Daury Arias: 0-for-2, RS, BB, HBP 1B Ronny Rojas: 1-for-4, 2 RBI, RS, 2 K RF Felix Negueis: 0-for-3, BB
RHP Justin Lange: 4.2 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 2 HR What, did you expect a well-polished machine for Luke Voit? RHP Alex Bustamante: 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K RHP Adam Stone (W, 1-1): 2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K Stone’s first professional win. Congrats! RHP Yorlin Calderon (S, 1): 1 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 1 K Calderon, typically used in a multi-inning role, collects his first professional save. He owns a 2.41 ERA in 37.1 IP (27 H, 12 R, 10 ER, 11 BB, 46 K)
FCL Yankees (9-6) (Defeated the Phillies, 7-4)
3B Keiner Delgado: 3-for-5, 2 2B (6), 2 SB (13) This is his second start at 3B (all of his other starts are at second base). He is hitting .317/.431/.467 in 72 PA and leads the FCL with 13 stolen bases. DH Enmanuel Tejeda: 0-for-2, 2 RS, 2 BB As of this writing, his ten stolen bases rank second in the FCL behind Delgado. He is hitting .326/.536/.543 in 69 PA. The .536 OBP leads the FCL. CF Willy Montero: 1-for-4, 3B (1), 3 RBI, RS .308/.377/.423 in 61 PA. SS Hans Montero: 1-for-3, HR (4), 2 RBI, RS, BB .320/.521/.660 in 71 PA. He is 5th in the FCL in SLG and 3rd in OBP. LF John Cruz: 1-for-3, RBI, BB Cruz’s 22 RBI (including 14 over the course of two days) lead the FCL. 2B Dayro Perez: 1-for-3, RS, BB, K, 2 SB (4) C Edinson Duran: 1-for-3, RS 13-for-29
RHP Jackson Fristoe: 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K I can’t imagine the 22-year-old will be here for long – even with the organizational logjam. This is where “advanced” short-season leagues (ie, Staten Island) used to come in handy. RHP Zach Greene: 1.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K Greene, on a rehab stint, was intriguing enough for the Mets to choose in this past winter’s Rule 5 draft.
DSL Bombers (8-7) (Lost to the Marlins, 10-2)
2B Gabriel Terrero: 0-for-1, K Terrero has been one of the better hitters on this squad, so it is worrisome that he left this game early. CF Ramiro Altagracia: 2-for-4, K .289/.347/.511 in 49 PA
RHP Alejandro Gomez: 5 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 5 K 16.1 IP, 10 H, 7 R, 3 ER, 1 HR, 4 BB, 15 K
DSL Yankees (11-3) (Defeated Mets Orange, 5-3)
CF Brando Mayea: 1-for-4, RS, K, SB (3) 8-for-23 (.348) with three doubles and three stolen bases. C Josue Gonzalez: 1-for-4, 2B (5), RS 11-for-31 (.355; 5 doubles, 1 triple, 1 HR, 15 RBI, 10 R, 12 BB, 6 K). This is a juiced-up offensive league, so it is an accomplishment to be in the top five in runs batted in. The leader (Kleimer Lemos (Rangers)) has 24 RBI in 14 games. 3B Santiago Gomez: 2-for-4, RBI, RS, K, SB (8) 13-for-36 (.361/.528/.639; 4 doubles, 2 HR, 14 RBI, 11 BB, 9 K). He has hit safely in ten of his 11 games played (including a 7-game hitting streak) LF Andres Lacruz: 1-for-2, RBI, BB, SB (7) Lacruz is an 18-year-old switch-hitter. He is only hitting .147/.383/.235 but he is showing some on-base skills + the ability to steal bases.
RHP Carlos Hampshire: 4 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 4 K RHP Stanly Alcantara (W, 2-0): 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 0 K The 19-year-old stands 6’6″.

Yankees MILB 6/25: Trey Sweeney’s Big Day
POSTED ON JUNE 25, 2023 BY ADMIN News:
I wrote briefly about the Yankees potentially blowing up the draft this year yesterday.
As for the draft itself, it all begins on July 9th. I question a lot of things that MLB does, but I think they did the right thing when they moved the draft to be part of the All-Star Game festivities. It is very hard for baseball to create a buzz around the draft. Unlike the NBA and NFL, you won’t see these players right away. The NHL is somewhat similar to baseball as there is a minor league system, but we see more teenagers in the NHL than we do in MLB. This past season, 11 teenagers played at least one NHL game.
Anyway, I am not really an MLB draft expert. I read about who the Yankees choose to get as informed as possible before they show up in my daily reports. If you want people who follow the draft more closely than I do on Twitter, you can look at Virginia Yankee or Bobby Milone. Last year, Bobby correctly predicted the Spencer Jones pick.
Scranton (34-40) (Lost to Buffalo, 2-0)
RF Estevan Florial: 0-for-4, K .288/.379/.597 in 277 PA. He is in a 3-for-27 slump. C Ben Rortvedt: 0-for-4, 2 K 3B Andres Chaparro: 0-for-3, BB, 2 K 1B Carlos Narvaez: 1-for-2, 2 BB .267/.431/.422 in 116 PA since his promotion. LF Elijah Dunham: 1-for-3, BB, K .220/.336/.336 in 283 PA. The lack of pop in 2023 has been the biggest concern for me. We’ll see what the second half brings. 2B Jesus Bastidas: 1-for-3, BB, K .257/.316/.411 in 237 PA. His versatility and a bat that continues to do SOMETHING could make him MLB viable. DH Josh Breaux: 0-for-3, BB CF Brandon Lockridge: 0-for-2, BB, K, SB (4) Lockridge is now 21-for-24 stealing bases. His personal best is 22, set in 2019. SS Max Burt: 0-for-3, K
RHP Randy Vasquez: (L, 2-8) 6.1 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, HR 5.11 ERA (61.2 IP, 65 H, 39 R, 35 ER, 8 HR, 34 BB, 69 K). After you see a pitcher perform in MLB, you start to not care so much about minor league numbers – but you still want to see the prospects perform. Today, Vasquez did well. I should note that offense in Triple-A is souped up, even if it wasn’t today. LHP Matt Krook: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K RHP Michael Feliz: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
Somerset (42-26; they have already clinched a playoff berth courtesy of a first-half title) (Lost to New Hampshire, 8-7)
SS Trey Sweeney: 3-for-5, 2B (14), 3B (1), 2 RBI, RS, K, SB (10) Sweeney is up to .250 with 14 doubles, 1 triple, 10 HR, 34 RBI, 43 R, and a 10-for-13 SB rate. He is 27-for-94 (.287) in June with six doubles, one triple, and seven home runs. LF Jasson Dominguez: 1-for-4, BB, 2 K, SB (17) Dominguez has 53 walks this season, putting him in the top ten in all of MILB and second in all of Double-A. It’s something, as we await for the rest of his game to catch up. DH Austin Wells: 1-for-5, RBI, K CF Everson Pereira: 0-for-2, RS, BB, 2 K As stated the other night, this is essentially his rehab stint. He will eventually play a full game if all is well. PH-RF Aaron Palensky: 0-for-2, K 1B T.J. Rumfield: 0-for-4, RS, BB, K, 2 SB (7) C Anthony Seigler: 1-for-3, RBI, 2 RS, BB, K Nice game for Seigler, who has been slumping lately and hasn’t been able to get much going this year. RF-CF Jeisson Rosario: 2-for-4, RS, CS (4) 2B Matt Pita: 1-for-4, RBI, RS 3B Delvin Perez: 0-for-3, BB, 2 K, SB (4)
LHP Carlos Rodon: 4 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K Rodon is right on target to make his first MLB start of 2023 in the next week or two. RHP Blane Abeyta: 0.1 IP, 2 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 1 K RHP Justin Wilson: 1.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K 4.00 ERA (27 IP, 22 H, 13 R, 12 ER, 3 HR, 17 BB, 27 K) LHP Lisandro Santos: 1.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K RHP Zac Houston: (L, 0-1) 1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 2 K RHP Tanner Myatt: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K
Hudson Valley (39-30; they have already clinched a playoff berth courtesy of a first-half title) (Lost to Brooklyn, 2-1. Omar De Los Santos started the bottom of the 9th with a bunt single, stole two bases, and eventually scored on a wild pitch to win the game. Old school! Old school! By the way, 33-year-old ex-Yankee Abraham Almonte is still playing ball – he is rehabbing down here for Brooklyn)
CF Spencer Jones: 0-for-4 0-for-15 in his last four games and 1-for-22 in his last six games. Before that, he had a 10-for-20 stretch. Baseball! 2B Ben Cowles: 1-for-4, HR (7), RBI, RS, 2 K Cowles’ first home run since 6/6. He is hitting .257/.343/.399 in 210 PA. C Rafael Flores: 0-for-3, BB RF Anthony Garcia: 0-for-4, 2 K SS Alexander Vargas: 1-for-4, 2B (9) .208/.265/.361 in 234 PA. He is 9-for-13 in the stolen base department, but he needs to get on base more to use his wheels. 1B Spencer Henson: 0-for-3, K DH Grant Richardson: 0-for-2, BB, 2 K, SB (9) LF Aldenis Sanchez: 1-for-3, 2B (7), SB (11) 3B Eduardo Torrealba: 0-for-3, 2 K
RHP Drew Thorpe: 7.2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 7 K 2.49 ERA (72.1 IP, 54 H, 24 R, 20 ER, 4 HR, 24 BB, 86 K). This is the third time this season Thorpe went 7+ innings. June numbers: 28.2 IP, 12 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 6 BB, 34 K RHP Bailey Dees: (L, 1-1) 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K Dees came close to escaping a man on 3rd, no outs jam in the 9th but the wild pitch did him in. He owns a 2.43 ERA with a 46/11 K/BB over 29.2 IP.
Tampa (33-36) (Lost to Ft. Myers, 9-1)
2B Jared Serna: 0-for-4, K One of my favorite facts this season is that Serna has yet to go three straight games without earning a hit. He is up to two after this game! He is hitting .294/.359/.504 in 290 PA (14 doubles, 1 triple, 13 HR, 45 RBI, 47 R, 25 BB (8.6%), 46 K (15.9%), 16-for-21 SB) 3B-C Jesus Rodriguez: 0-for-3 DH Agustin Ramirez: 0-for-3 .245/.384/.397 in 232 PA. RF Christopher Familia: 1-for-3, K Familia has hit safely in 19 of his 21 games played. He is hitting .398/.474/.928 in 95 PA. SS Brenny Escanio: 0-for-3, K CF Daury Arias: 0-for-3, K C Omar Martinez: 0-for-2, K I am not sure why Martinez had to leave the game. 3B Ronny Rojas: 1-for-1, 2B (6), RS LF Tayler Aguilar: 0-for-3 1B Beau Brewer: 0-for-3, RBI
RHP Baron Stuart: (L, 1-5) 4.2 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 7 K 5.59 ERA (38.2 IP, 39 H, 31 R, 24 ER, 6 HR, 20 BB, 39 K). Stuart is a sinker/slider type of pitcher. RHP Ocean Gabonia: 0.1 IP, 5 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 2 HR These are the types of appearances that kill a reliever’s stat line for an entire season. RHP Cole Ayers: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K 4.76 ERA (28.1 IP, 31 H, 18 R, 15 ER, 3 HR, 11 BB, 34 K) RHP Manny Ramirez: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K RHP Matt Keating: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K 3.03 ERA (29.2 IP, 25 H, 14 R, 10 ER, 2 HR, 16 BB, 47 K). Keating seems to be a fastball/slider guy – his fastball isn’t thrown hard (91-93), so I wonder if his slider is a really good one, given the strikeout rates.
FCL Yankees (9-6)

DSL Bombers (8-7)

Yankees MILB 6/27: Keiner Delgado Collects 3 Hits
POSTED ON JUNE 27, 2023 BY ADMIN News:
Both RHP Clayton Beeter and OF Spencer Jones are on their way to the Futures Game. The rules state that each organization must be represented and there is a maximum of only two players per organization. Jones’ first-round pedigree and Beeter’s numbers make them both solid choices.
Jones is hitting .268/.327/.496 (121 wRC+) with 19 doubles, ten home runs, and 36 runs batted in. His strikeout rate (33.1%) and ground ball rate (45.6%) are both on the high side, so he has things to work on if he wants to reach his full potential. That is true of all prospects.
Between Somerset and Scranton, Beeter is 6-3 with a 2.32 ERA in 66 innings. He owns a strong K% (29.3%), though he walks a few too many hitters. While he features an array of pitches, there are still those who believe he is a reliever long-term. For now, keep him starting until he proves he can’t.

FCL Yankees (10-7) (Rocked Alek Manoah and the Blue Jays, 13-5)
2B Keiner Delgado: 3-for-4, HR (2), 3 RBI, 3 RS, BB .328/.451/.607 in 82 plate appearances with a 13-for-15 stolen base rate. He has walked 14 times while striking out only nine times. SS Roderick Arias: 1-for-4, HR (2), 3 RBI, RS, BB, K .224/.357/.379 in 70 plate appearances with a 7-for-8 stolen base rate. Arias has 11 walks and 16 strikeouts (22.9%). Last season, his K% was 32.9%. CF Willy Montero: 1-for-5, RBI, K .311/.371/.410 in 70 PA. DH Hans Montero: 1-for-4, RBI, RS, BB, K .351/.538/.684 in 80 PA. His 1.222 OPS ranks second in the league behind Luis Baez (1.279). Baez has played in six fewer games. 3B Enmanuel Tejeda: 1-for-5, RS, K .304/.494/.500 in 79 PA. He is tied with Hans Montero for most walks in the FCL (20) RF John Cruz: 1-for-4, HR (4), RBI, RS, BB, K Cruz is hitting .217/.324/.467 in 71 PA with 23 RBI, which leads the league. LF Joel Mendez: 2-for-5, 2 RBI, RS, K .346/.387/.538 in only 31 PA. C Edinson Duran: 2-for-4, 3 RS, BB, K .455/.514/.667 in 37 PA with only two strikeouts. He is in the midst of a 9-game hitting streak. 1B Enger Castellano: 3-for-4, 2B (1), 2 RBI, 2 RS, K A much-needed effort for the 20-year-old, who is only 8-for-37.
RHP Luis Serna: 1.1 IP, 2 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 2 K 2023 debut for the cousin of infield prospect Jared Serna. Like his cousin, you aren’t looking at a pitcher with great size (listed at 5’11”, 162). He is highly likely to add some weight to his frame (if he hasn’t already) RHP Zach Greene: 0.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, HR The rehab stint continues. LHP Henry Lalane (W, 1-0): 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K The tall (6’7″) lefty makes his 2023 debut. Last year, in the DSL, he compiled a 2.98 ERA in 11 starts (48.1 IP) with a 52/14 K/BB. RHP Carlos Lagrange: 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 5 BB, 4 K As soon as Lalane is taken out, they replace him with a 6’7″ righty! The 20-year-old strikes out his share of hitters and walks his share of hitters – that is the life of bigger pitchers at times.
DSL Bombers (8-9) (Lost to the Tigers, 10-1)
RF Gabriel Lara: 1-for-3, RBI .289/.439/.556 in 57 PA with a 6-for-9 stolen base rate. CF Ramiro Altagracia: 1-for-3, K .288/.339/.500 in 56 PA with a pair of home runs. 3B Ovandy Frias: 1-for-2, BB, SB (5) Frias is hitting .235/.350/.412 in 40 PA. This is his debut season.
RHP Sunayro Martina: 2.1 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 4 K
DSL Yankees (13-3) (Destroyed Colorado, 12-5)
DH Brando Mayea: 0-for-5, RBI, BB, K .294/.351/.412 in 37 PA. SS Luis Suarez: 1-for-3, SF, RBI, RS, HBP, SB (7), CS (1) .255/.357/.468 in 56 PA. He is 23-for-27 stealing bases in 46 career games. CF Jose Castro: 2-for-5, 2B (2), RS, 2 K .300/.417/.400 in 24 PA. This is the 17-year-old’s debut season. 2B Santiago Gomez: 1-for-4, RBI, RS, BB, K .341/.508/.568 in 63 PA. The 19-year-old didn’t have a great season here last year (.230/.394/.377) but is hopefully getting on track in 2023. 1B Luis Ogando: 1-for-2, 2B (5), RBI, RS, 2 BB, 2 CS (3) .378/.464/.556 in 56 PA. In this league, hitting .378 is enough to rank in 19th place. LF Jhon Imbert: 2-for-4, 2B (2), 3 RS, BB, 2 K, SB (4) 10-for-36 with a pair of doubles and 11 runs scored. RF Andres Lacruz: 3-for-4, 4 RBI, 3 RS, BB, K, SB (8) Lacruz (18) is 9-for-41 with ten RBI and 13 runs scored. He is 8-for-9 stealing bases. 3B Anthony Pena: 3-for-5, 2 2B (2), 4 RBI, RS, K The 17-year-old is 5-for-19 in his debut season. The 4 RBI are the first RBI in his career.
LHP Pedro Rodriguez (W, 3-0): 2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K Rodriguez is already 20 and has spent three years down here. Can he still blossom? He’s a pitcher, so of course he can. RHP Kevin Aparicio: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K Aparicio is another 20-year-old hurler. This is his second season.

Yankees MILB 6/29: Trey Sweeney Homers Again
POSTED ON JUNE 29, 2023 BY ADMIN News:
Nothing to report.
Scranton (35-41; 1-1 in the second half) (Shut Down Syracuse, 7-0)
RF Estevan Florial: 2-for-5, RS, K Florial has 20 multi-hit games this season (60 games played) DH Oswald Peraza: 0-for-4, BB, 2 K He is 0-for-9 since returning but is still hitting .275/.345/.529 in 171 PA. C Ben Rortvedt: 0-for-4, RS, BB, K 3B Andres Chaparro: 1-for-5, 2B (13), RBI, RS CF Elijah Dunham: 3-for-5, 2B (12), HR (6), 2 RBI, 2 RS It would be a boost to the organization’s depth if Dunham can have a strong second half. I will note that Dunham is Rule 5 eligible this winter, so a strong second half benefits him personally, as well. 1B Carlos Narvaez: 1-for-4, RS, BB, K 2B Jamie Westbrook: 0-for-3, RBI, BB, K SS Jesus Bastidas: 1-for-4, 2 RBI LF Brandon Lockridge: 2-for-3, 3B (1), HR (1), RBI, RS, BB Lockridge collects his Triple-A triple and home run. He is hitting .279/.354/.488 in 48 PA since his promotion in what is turning into a solid bounce back from a tough 2022 campaign.
RHP Will Warren: 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 5 K Since promotion: 5.22 ERA (29.1 IP, 30 H, 23 R, 17 ER, 7 HR, 15 BB, 32 K). RHP Aaron McGarity: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K RHP Michael Feliz: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K Since signing: 9 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 4 BB, 9 K LHP Matt Krook: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K RHP Matt Bowman: 1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
Somerset (44-26; 2-0 in the second half) (Defeated Bowie, 11-3)
SS Trey Sweeney: 1-for-5, HR (11), RBI, RS, K Sweeney doesn’t wish to see July (unless it means a promotion!) This is his 8th HR in June (to go along with seven doubles) CF Jasson Dominguez: 1-for-4, 2B (7), 2 RS, BB, K, SB (18) .199/.347/.361 in 300 PA (7 doubles, 1 triple, 10 HR, 37 RBI, 50 R, 55 BB, 83 K, 18-for-21 SB). There is a mix of a lot of things here, eh? C Austin Wells: 2-for-4, 2 2B (12), RBI, 2 RS, BB, K, SB (4) Wells is now 36-for-36 stealing bases in his career. In 98 career games for Somerset, he has 20 doubles, 22 home runs, 81 RBI, 58 runs scored, and 11 stolen bases. DH Everson Pereira: 1-for-5, HR (10), 2 RBI, RS, 3 K Amazing how one late AB can turn a rough game into an acceptable one. 1B T.J. Rumfield: 1-for-4, HR (14), SF, 3 RBI, RS, K 14 HR, 42 RBI in 54 games this season. 4 HR, 42 RBI in 84 games entering this season. 3B Tyler Hardman: 2-for-5, 2B (8), 2 RS, K .243/.323/.540 in 232 PA (8 doubles, 2 triples, 16 HR, 35 RBI, 37 R, 24 BB, 69 K). Hardman just oozes power and has legitimate big league potential. LF Jeisson Rosario: 2-for-5, 2B (3), HR (9), 2 RBI, RS, 2 K Rosario could use a strong second half. The home runs and BB% are certainly there, but the rest of his offensive game is lacking in 2023. RF Aaron Palensky: 2-for-5, HR (3), RBI, RS, K, SB (6) Palensky has 15 HR and 16 stolen bases (in 17 attempts) between here and Hudson Valley. A 25-25 season is not out of the question for the 24-year-old. 2B Delvin Perez: 0-for-2, BB, HBP, SB (5)
RHP Richard Fitts: (W, 4-5) 5.1 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 3 HR As they say, if you are going to give up home runs, make them solo! Fitts now owns a 3.99 ERA (76.2 IP, 74 H, 35 R, 34 ER, 13 HR, 17 BB, 84 K). Going back to the home runs: He has allowed 27 in 188.2 career innings. That is something he will need to improve on. RHP Blas Castano: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 2 K LHP Ryan Anderson: 2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K Anderson is up to 7.1 scoreless innings since his promotion.
Hudson Valley (39-32; 0-2 in the second half) (Lost to Wilmington, 4-1)
CF Spencer Jones: 0-for-3, BB Jones is back down to .260 due to his 0-for-23 slide. His season is a streaky one – and I don’t think that surprises many. 2B Ben Cowles: 0-for-2, RS, 2 BB DH Rafael Flores: 1-for-4, RBI, 3 K C Agustin Ramirez: 1-for-4 Ramirez collects his first High-A hit. LF Christopher Familia: 0-for-4, K RF Anthony Garcia: 0-for-4, K SS Alexander Vargas: 2-for-4, K Back-to-back multi-hit games for Vargas, who is trying to get his season back on track. 1B Spencer Henson: 0-for-2, BB, HBP, K 3B Eduardo Torrealba: 0-for-4, 2 K
RHP Brendan Beck: 2.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K Beck tossed 45 pitches tonight. I assume his next goal will likely be around 60, whenever they wish to stretch him out a little. RHP Bailey Dees: 2.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K 2.23 ERA (31.1 IP, 17 H, 8 R, 8 ER, 2 HR, 11 BB, 49 K). One has to assume the 6’8″ 24-year-old is in line for a promotion. RHP Jack Neely: (L, 3-2) 1.2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, HR Tough night tonight but still sports a 2.78 ERA in 32.1 IP (19 H, 12 R, 10 ER, 3 HR, 14 BB, 48 K) RHP Carlos Gomez: 1.2 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 4 K LHP Clay Aguilar: 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K
Tampa (33-38; 0-2 in the second half) (Lost to Daytona Beach, 6-4)
SS Jared Serna: 2-for-5, 2B (15), RBI, 2 K Serna ends his hitless game streak at three. 3B Jesus Rodriguez: 0-for-4, BB, K Agustin Ramirez being promoted has seemingly allowed Rodriguez to move higher up in the lineup. He is hitting .291/.376/.423 in 219 PA, so a move up the lineup has certainly been earned. He can catch (ten starts behind the plate) but they are using him a lot at third base. DH Anthony Hall: 0-for-4, RS, BB, 3 K Hall’s home run streak ends at four straight games. C Omar Martinez: 2-for-3, 2B (6), RS, 2 BB, K .232/.361/.369 in 202 PA for the 21-year-old left-handed bat. I think all Yankees fans are intrigued by left-handed hitting catching prospects. CF Daury Arias: 3-for-5, HR (4), 2 RBI, RS .230/.318/.349 in 236 PA. This is his second 3-hit game in June. Arias is one of those toolsy outfielders who can go in a million different directions – just have to keep throwing him in the lineup and see what happens. He is only 21. 2B Brett Barrera: 1-for-3, RBI Barrera’s first game since June 3. 2B Brenny Escanio: 0-for-1, BB RF Tayler Aguilar: 0-for-4, BB, K LF Jake Palmer: 1-for-4, 2B (2), RS, BB 1B Ronny Rojas: 0-for-2, 2 BB
LHP Brock Selvidge: 4.1 IP, 8 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K 3.55 ERA (66 IP, 65 H, 30 R, 26 ER, 3 HR, 16 BB, 79 K). Tonight was a grind, but he kept the runs off the board. I find starts like this to be a big piece of a pitcher’s development. RHP Yorlin Calderon: 2.2 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, 2 HR 2.93 ERA (40 IP, 30 H, 15 R, 13 ER, 4 HR, 11 BB, 49 K). Today didn’t go his way but he has done well in his multi-inning relief role. RHP Adam Stone: 1.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 K RHP Ocean Gabonia: 0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
FCL Yankees (11-7) (Defeated the Blue Jays, 7-2)
2B Keiner Delgado: 2-for-4, RBI, RS, BB Delgado has 8 multi-hit games in his 17 games played. He is hitting .338/.460/.507. Yes, I can see him making his Low-A debut this season. SS Roderick Arias: 2-for-4, HR (3), 2 RBI, 3 RS, BB, SB (8) .242/.373/.435 in 75 PA. Those numbers may not shout at you but he is on a 6-game hitting streak that features four multi-hit contests (10-for-25) 3B Hans Montero: 2-for-3, 2 RBI, RS, BB, K, 2 SB (7) Montero is raking. He is up to .367/.548/.683 in 84 PA with four home runs, 14 RBI, 20 runs scored, and 21 walks. He is on a five-game hitting streak (9-for-16) and has at least one walk in seven straight games. DH Enmanuel Tejeda: 1-for-4, RBI, RS, K, SB (11) .300/.482/.483 in 83 PA with 20 walks and 18 strikeouts. He has reached base safely in all but one of his 18 games. LF Joel Mendez: 1-for-4, 2 K, SB (1)

DSL Bombers (9-9) (Defeated Tampa Bay, 3-2)
RF Ramiro Altagracia: 1-for-4, HR (3), RBI, RS, K Altagracia hit the walk-off in the 9th, C Johan Contreras: 1-for-3, 2B (2), RBI, K SS Ovandy Frias: 1-for-3, 2B (2), RS, K 2B Rafael Martinez: 2-for-3, 2B (2), RBI, CS (2) Geyber Blanco was in the original lineup but didn’t even have an AB. Martinez is 8-for-33 with 11 RBI while Blanco is 11-for-38 (.289) with three walks.
RHP Omar Gonzalez: 4.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 7 K Gonzalez is only 17, and this is his best outing. Season: 11 IP, 10 H, 11 R, 10 ER, 1 HR, 11 BB, 20 K. He was signed out of Panama for $135,000. RHP Mariano Salomon (W, 1-0): 4.1 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 8 K Salomon is already 20 but this is also his first taste of professional ball.
DSL Yankees (14-3) (Rolled past the Rockies, 16-6)
SS Luis Suarez: 1-for-5, 2 RS, BB, 3 K, SB (8) C Josue Gonzalez: 4-for-5, 2B (6), HR (2), RBI, 3 RS 15-for-36 (.417; 6 doubles, 1 triple, 2 HR, 17 RBI, 14 R, 16 BB, 6 K) 2B Santiago Gomez: 2-for-5, RS 17-for-49 (.347; 4 doubles, 2 HR, 17 RBI, 17 R, 8-for-11 SB) 3B Luis Ogando: 3-for-5, 2B (6), RBI, 4 RS 20-for-50 (.400; 6 doubles, 1 HR, 12 RBI, 19 R, 7-for-10 SB) 1B Jhon Imbert: 3-for-4, 3 HR (3), 9 RBI, 3 RS, BB, K Suffice to say, this is a career day for Imbert. He is 19 years old and this is his third taste of this level (to be fair, he only played in five games in 2021), which is why you don’t hear too much about him. DH Luis Escudero: 3-for-5, RBI, BB The 17-year-old is 12-for-45 (3 doubles, 1 HR, 14 RBI, 7 R, 14 BB, 14 K) RF Niurby Asigen: 2-for-6 8-for-44 with a pair of doubles and a home run. LF Joshua Leito: 2-for-5, RBI, RS, BB, 2 K This was Leito’s first full game of 2023. Last season, the 18-year-old went 2-for-29 with 12 walks.

Yankees MILB 6/30: Brando Mayea Hits First Home Run
POSTED ON JUNE 30, 2023 BY ADMIN News:
The Yankees have purchased RHP Jesus Liranzo from Lancaster (Independent). He was assigned to Somerset.
The 28-year-old started his professional journey in 2012. He owns a career minor league record of 11-18 with a 4.38 ERA in 212 games (15 starts). Liranzo has bounced all around the minors, having played for the Braves, Orioles, Pirates, Diamondbacks, Tigers, and Nationals. Fangraphs placed him on the “others to watch” in their minor league report on the Diamondbacks last year. He was given praise for his high-octane fastball and spin rates. I can see why the Yankees were interested.
Scranton (36-41; 2-1 in the second half) (Knocked off Syracuse, 10-6)
LF Estevan Florial: 0-for-2, 2 RS, 2 BB, 3 SB (16) Florial ties his personal best for SB in a game. He is hitting .290/.384/.597 in 292 PA (10 doubles, 3 triples, 20 HR, 46 RBI, 50 R, 40 BB, 85 K, 16-for-24 SB) CF Brandon Lockridge: 0-for-5, 2 K C-1B Carlos Narvaez: 2-for-5, HR (5), 2 RBI, 2 RS, K The 24-year-old also hit a pair of home runs down in Somerset earlier this season. Narvaez has 25 walks (19.2%) and 26 strikeouts (20%) since his promotion and is looking more and more like a legitimate MLB backup option. Last season was the only season when his batting average tanked, but he did contribute a personal-best 11 home runs. If you remember, he hit a walk-off home run during spring training. DH Andres Chaparro: 1-for-3, RS, 2 BB Chaparro has drawn seven walks in his last six games. 1B Rodolfo Duran: 1-for-4 PH-C Ben Rortvedt: 1-for-1, 2B (4), RBI, RS Rortvedt’s pinch-hit RBI double in the top of the 9th broke the 6-6 tie. 3B Jamie Westbrook: 3-for-4, HR (11), 2 RBI, 3 RS, BB RF Michael Hermosillo: 1-for-4, HR (10), SF, 2 RBI, RS, K SS Jesus Bastidas: 3-for-5, 3B (2), 2 RBI .265/.321/.422 in 246 PA. This is his 4th 3-hit game this season. 2B Max Burt: 0-for-3, 2 BB, K
RHP Clayton Beeter: 5.2 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 4 BB, 1 K, HR Beeter’s first two Triple-A starts: 11 IP, 11 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 3 HR, 7 BB, 7 K. Lucky 7’s! RHP Michael Gomez: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K RHP Greg Weissert: (W, 2-2) 1 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, HR LHP Josh Maciejewski: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K Used primarily as a starter in 2019 and 2021, Maciejewski took on more of a bullpen role in 2022 (he hasn’t made any starts in 2023).
Somerset (44-27; 2-1 in the second half) (Lost to Bowie, 7-6)
SS Trey Sweeney: 0-for-5 Sweeney ends June 29-for-108 (.269) with seven doubles and eight home runs. The power display was impressive and hopefully continues into July. LF Jasson Dominguez: 0-for-3, RS, BB, 2 K Dominguez goes 18-for-97 (.186) with three doubles, three home runs, 19 walks, and 37 strikeouts. Judge for yourself. DH T.J. Rumfield: 0-for-4, 3 K 3B Tyler Hardman: 0-for-2, RBI, 2 BB, K Hardman had an impressive June (especially in the power department), going 21-for-80 (.263) with eight home runs and 16 runs batted in. CF Jeisson Rosario: 1-for-4, 2 RBI, 3 K C Mickey Gasper: 2-for-4, HR (4), RBI, RS, 2 K RF Aaron Palensky: 0-for-4, RS, K 1B Eric Wagaman: 2-for-3, 2B (6), 2 RS, BB 2B Matt Pita: 0-for-2, RBI, RS, BB, HBP
RHP Matt Sauer: (L, 0-1) 3 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, 3 K, HR LHP Lisandro Santos: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K 2.77 ERA (39 IP, 22 H, 16 R, 12 ER, 1 HR, 27 BB, 43 K). Santos isn’t easy to hit – but control has always been an issue. RHP Jesus Liranzo: 1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, HR Liranzo’s organizational debut. RHP Tanner Myatt: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K
Hudson Valley (39-33; 0-3 in the second half) (Lost to Wilmington, 4-3)
CF Spencer Jones: 1-for-4, RS, BB, K Jones had an up-and-down month. He finishes it 23-for-94 (.245; 4 doubles, 1 triple, 3 HR; 13 BB, 30 K) 2B Ben Cowles: 0-for-5, 3 K DH Agustin Ramirez: 2-for-4, HR (1), RBI, RS Ramirez is an intriguing catching prospect. He has eight home runs in 58 games between here and Tampa to go along with 43 walks (17.9%) and 41 strikeouts (17.1%). 1B Rafael Flores: 1-for-3, RS, BB RF Christopher Familia: 1-for-4, 2B (1), 2 RBI, 2 K Given how Familia’s season is going, it comes as no surprise that his first High-A hit is a 2-run double. Between here and Tampa, he has 8 doubles, 2 triples, 11 HR, and 33 RBI in 23 games. SS Alexander Vargas: 0-for-3, BB, 2 K, CS (5) C Antonio Gomez: 1-for-3, BB, 2 K Gomez ends June on a 6-game hitting streak. He didn’t want to see the month end as he went 21-for-61 (.344) with five doubles. He started the month at .205/.272/.280 and ended it at .249/.319/.358. LF Anthony Garcia: 2-for-4, K, SB (2) .199/.295/.316 in 156 PA. Typically known for his ability to take walks and hit home runs, he has only three HR this season. 3B Marcos Cabrera: 0-for-2, BB, HBP, K
LHP Joel Valdez: 4 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, HR 5.65 ERA (51 IP, 42 H, 34 R, 32 ER, 7 HR, 37 BB, 52 K). The walks and the homers certainly present a problem at the moment. RHP Harrison Cohen: 2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 1 K 3.09 ERA between here and Tampa (20.1 IP, 19 H, 8 R, 7 ER, 7 BB, 26 K) RHP Nick Paciorek: (L, 4-1) 0.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 0 K RHP Luis Velasquez: 0.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 1 K RHP Mason Vinyard: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K RHP Luis Santos: 0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K This is indeed the same Luis Santos who normally operates as a utility infielder.
Tampa (34-38; 1-2 in the second half) (Score four in the bottom of the 9th to defeat Daytona Beach, 4-3)
SS Jared Serna: 1-for-5, K .289/.351/.491 in 305 PA. He ran into a bit of a wall at the end of June, finishing 30-for-114 (.263). However, he did hit seven doubles and five home runs while driving home 21 runs from the leadoff position. 2B Brenny Escanio: 1-for-3, 2 BB, 2 K Escanio, who is only 20, finishes June with a .294/.370/.424 line that featured both of his home runs this season. I won’t try to convince you that he is a top prospect – just showing you that a 20-year-old may be adjusting to a level. C Jesus Rodriguez: 2-for-5, 2 RBI, K His 2-run single with two outs in the bottom of the 9th finished off the comeback. Rodriguez is now hitting .294/.377/.423 in 224 PA with 25 walks (11.2%) and 32 strikeouts (14.3%). He finishes June 31-for-85 (.365). As stated a few days ago, he should get some more catching opportunities (in addition to his work elsewhere on the diamond) with Agustin Ramirez‘s promotion. CF Anthony Hall: 0-for-3, HBP, K .275/.389/.466 in 226 PA. A mundane ending to a solid month, where he hit .284/.373/.545 with six home runs. In May, he hit .338/.477/.471 with one home run. After a slow April (which came on the heels of receiving one AB before being injured in 2022), he has essentially destroyed this level. DH Omar Martinez: 0-for-3, RS, BB, K LF Daury Arias: 2-for-3, RS, BB, K, SB (7) RF Tayler Aguilar: 0-for-2, 2 BB, K 1B Jake Palmer: 0-for-3, RBI, RS, BB 3B Beau Brewer: 1-for-4, RBI, RS, K
RHP Hayden Merda: 6 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 5 K The 9th-inning rally saves Merda from what would have been an undeserved loss. He owns a 5.07 ERA in 60.1 IP (56 H, 38 R, 34 ER, 4 HR, 27 BB, 60 K). One thing those who follow Yankees’ prospects have learned is to pay attention to the middle-round pitchers they choose. RHP Manny Ramirez: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K RHP Alex Bustamante (W, 2-0): 1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 1 K
FCL Yankees (11-8) (Lost to the Tigers, 9-5)
DH Keiner Delgado: 0-for-4, BB SS Roderick Arias: 1-for-4, RS, 2 K Arias now has a 7-game hitting streak (11-for-33) 3B Hans Montero: 0-for-4 2B Enmanuel Tejeda: 1-for-1, 3B (1), RBI, 3 RS, 3 BB, 2 SB (13), CS (2) Great day for Tejeda, but he did leave the game for reasons unknown. He is hitting .311/.506/.525 in 87 PA with a 23/18 BB/K CF John Cruz: 1-for-2, 2B (2), RBI, BB, K, SB (4) LF Dayro Perez: 0-for-4, RBI, 2 K, SB (5) C Edinson Duran: 1-for-4, RBI
RHP Cam Schlittler: 3 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K RHP Zach Greene: 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K He should be back in Scranton soon. LHP Miguel Pozo: 2.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K 8.1 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 HR, 2 BB, 10 K
DSL Bombers (10-9) (Won a football game over the Braves, 21-10. Never settle for field goals, folks!)
C Edgleen Perez: 1-for-3, 2B (2), 2 RBI, 3 RS, 4 BB Perez is 9-for-46 but owns a .412 OBP thanks to 17 walks. That’s the DSL, baby! CF Ramiro Altagracia: 3-for-6, 2B (4), 2 RBI, 2 RS, BB, K .306/.358/.548 in 67 PA (4 doubles, 1 triple, 3 HR, 11 RBI, 11 R) RF David Beckles: 2-for-6, 2 RBI, 2 RS, BB, K LF Geyber Blanco: 4-for-7, 2 2B (5), RBI, 3 RS, CS (1) The 17-year-old is off to a 15-for-45 start in his first professional season. He is 6-for-11 with three doubles in his last two starts. 3B Adrian Gonzalez: 2-for-4, 2B (1), SF, 3 RBI, 4 RS, 2 BB, K 6-for-34 with ten walks. 2B Abrahan Ramirez: 2-for-3, RBI, 4 RS, 3 BB, K SS Rafael Martinez: 3-for-4, RS, 2 BB, K, CS (3) The 17-year-old is 11-for-37 with a pair of doubles and 11 runs batted in.
RHP Joshawn Lampson: 3.1 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 4 K RHP Keninson Diaz (S, 1): 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K
DSL Yankees (14-4) (Lost to the Twins, 10-7)
CF Brando Mayea: 2-for-4, 2B (5), HR (1), 3 RBI, RS, BB, K, SB (7) Mayea’s first professional home run and he did a bit of everything today. He is hitting .316/.381/.526 in 42 PA with a 7-for-7 stolen base rate. 3B Luis Suarez: 1-for-5, RBI LF Luis Ogando: 2-for-4, HR (2), RBI, RS, K The 19-year-old is hitting .407/.477/.630 in 65 PA, He is on a 7-game hitting streak (13-for-28; 3 doubles, 2 HR) RF Andres Lacruz: 1-for-3, HR (1), RBI, 2 RS, BB, K Just like Mayea, Lacruz hits his first professional home run. 2B Luis Escudero: 2-for-4, 2B (4), RBI, RS, K, CS (2) The 17-year-old is hitting .286/.453/.429 in 64 PA with 15 runs batted in. 1B Gabriel Bersing: 1-for-3, 2 RS, BB, 2 K, SB (3) SS Jelson Coca: 0-for-4, K
RHP Orvis Fernandez: 2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K Professional debut for the 19-year-old, who was signed on June 20th. RHP Kevin Aparicio: 2.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K

Yankees MILB 7/1: Tyler Hardman Hits 3 HR
POSTED ON JULY 1, 2023 BY ADMIN News:
Nothing to report.
Scranton (37-41; 3-1 in the second half) (Knocked off Syracuse, 8-3)
RF Estevan Florial: 2-for-5, 2B (11), 3B (4), 2 RS, K Florial has 35 extra-base hits (11 doubles, 4 triples, 20 HR) in 62 games. SS Oswald Peraza: 2-for-5, HR (12), 2 RBI, 2 RS, K A nice start to his July after a tough June (which featured an injury). He hit only .155/.265/.310 during that month. C Ben Rortvedt: 2-for-4, HR (4), 2 RBI, RS, BB, 2 K Simply put, he must stay healthy. 3B Andres Chaparro: 1-for-5, 2B (14), RBI, RS, K LF Elijah Dunham: 0-for-4, BB, K 1B Carlos Narvaez: 2-for-3, HR (6), SF, 2 RBI, RS Narvaez, who is hitting .283, has homered in back-to-back games for the second time this season. DH Franchy Cordero: 0-for-2, RS, 2 BB, 2 K 2B Jesus Bastidas: 1-for-4, 2B (11), RBI, K CF Brandon Lockridge: 1-for-4, K
RHP Mitch Spence: (W, 6-4) 7 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 8 K, HR Spence puts together a big effort. His ERA is at 4.63 in 83.2 IP (84 H, 49 R, 43 ER, 16 HR, 32 BB, 72 K). It’s the third time this season he has put together a 7-inning effort. RHP Deivi Garcia: 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, HR LHP D.J. Snelten: 1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 0 K, HR
Somerset (45-27; 3-1 in the second half) (Defeated Bowie, 9-5)
SS Trey Sweeney: 1-for-3, RBI, RS, 2 BB A nice start to July after his strong June. Sweeney is hitting .245/.363/.434 in 317 PA. The most important thing is that most of the “bad” stuff happened early (he was still taking his share of walks during his down time) and he is showing a lot of progress. CF Jasson Dominguez: 2-for-5, 2 RS, K, SB (19) Dominguez’s first multi-hit game since June 16th. This one gets the average back over .200 (.201) LF Everson Pereira: 0-for-5, RS, 2 K C Austin Wells: 1-for-4, SF, 2 RBI, K .253/.348/.494 in 201 plate appearances at this level. 3B Tyler Hardman: 3-for-4, 3 HR (19), 4 RBI, 3 RS, BB, K Hardman is the first Yankees prospect to hit three HR in a game since…Jhon Imbert on June 29 down in the DSL! Before Imbert, I know that Everson Pereira hit three home runs in a game back in September 2021. I don’t recall if any others have done it recently. Hardman is hitting .250/.336/.582 in 241 PA (8 doubles, 2 triples, 19 HR, 40 RBI, 40 R, 27 BB, 70 K). He has three multi-HR games this season, all since June 17th. If he can truly play third base at the highest level, his stock goes up. 1B T.J. Rumfield: 1-for-4, 2B (7), RS, BB, K DH Eric Wagaman: 3-for-5, 2B (7), 2 K, SB (12) Wagaman is hitting .324/.375/.539 in 112 PA with a 12-for-13 SB rate (he was 11-for-19 in his career entering this season) RF Matt Pita: 0-for-5, K 2B Delvin Perez: 1-for-3, SF, RBI, RS, K, SB (6)
RHP Chase Hampton: 5.2 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, HR Hampton has very few clunkers in his debut season (had a 4.2 IP/5 R outing in Hudson Valley back on 4/25). Double-A is a huge adjustment so we’ll see how he comes back next time out. RHP Danny Watson: (W, 2-0) 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K Since promotion: 12.2 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 11 K. He has ten strikeouts in his last 5.2 IP. RHP Justin Wilson: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K 3.86 ERA (28 IP, 22 H, 13 R, 12 ER, 3 HR, 18 BB, 28 K) RHP Zac Houston: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
Hudson Valley (40-33; 1-3 in the second half) (Defeated Wilmington, 8-2)
CF Spencer Jones: 1-for-4, BB, 2 K, CS (6) .259/.323/.474 in 294 PA with 25 walks (8.5%) and 95 strikeouts (32.3%) 3B Ben Cowles: 1-for-3, 2 RS, 2 BB, K C Agustin Ramirez: 3-for-5, 2B (1), 2 RS Ramirez is 6-for-14 since his promotion with a double and a home run. DH Christopher Familia: 2-for-5, 2 RBI, 2 RS, 2 K Familia is 3-for-13 with a double and 4 runs batted in since his promotion. He has a rather incredible 35 RBI in 24 games. SS Alexander Vargas: 2-for-3, SF, 2 RBI, RS Vargas has three multi-hit games in his last four games played. A major slump crushed his triple slash, which is at .222/.276/.370. 1B Spencer Henson: 2-for-,3, 2B (11), SF, 2 RBI, RS, K .254/.344/.455 in 221 PA. LF Grant Richardson: 1-for-4, 2 K, SB (10) RF Aldenis Sanchez: 1-for-3, BB, K, SB (12), CS (4) 2B Luis Santos: 1-for-4, K
LHP Carlos Rodon: 3.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 8 K He handled his demotion to Hudson Valley well. He really didn’t do anything all that bad in Somerset. RHP Zach Messinger (W, 1-5): 5 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 9 K It took piggybacking Rodon to earn a much-deserved first win of the season. He owns a 2.98 ERA in 63.1 IP (57 H, 28 R, 21 ER, 6 HR, 32 BB, 82 K) LHP Clay Aguilar: 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
Tampa (34-39; 1-3 in the second half) (Lost to Daytona, 12-2)
SS Jared Serna: 1-for-4, 2B (16), RS, K .288/.350/.491 in 309 PA. 2B Brenny Escanio: 0-for-1, RS, 3 BB, CS (5) .226/.330/.297 in 286 PA with 15 stolen bases in 20 tries. C Ben Rice: 0-for-2 Rice is on a rehab stint. He got off to a red-hot start up in Hudson Valley (15-for-44, 2 HR, 18 BB) but has missed two months due to injury. C Jesus Rodriguez: 0-for-2 CF Anthony Hall: 1-for-4, 2 RBI, 3 K .275/.387/.461 in 230 PA (8 doubles, 2 triples, 8 HR, 33 RBI, 38 R, 34 BB, 51 K) LF Daury Arias: 0-for-4, K 3B Brett Barrera: 0-for-2, K 3B Beau Brewer: 0-for-2 DH Tayler Aguilar: 1-for-4, 2B (11) RF Jake Palmer: 1-for-1, 2 BB 1B Ronny Rojas: 0-for-3, 3 K
RHP Sean Hermann: (L, 4-5) 2.1 IP, 4 H, 7 R, 4 ER, 6 BB, 0 K Print out this boxscore and burn it. Move on to the next. RHP Shane Gray: 2.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K LHP Geoffrey Gilbert: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K 2.48 ERA (32.2 IP, 24 H, 10 R, 9 ER, 1 HR, 15 BB, 39 K). He is doing a solid job in his debut season – just add him to the list of pitchers who are deserving of a promotion. RHP Matt Keating: 0.2 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 1 K Keating is having a good year – hopefully this is just a bump in the road. RHP Cole Ayers: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K 4.55 ERA (31.2 IP, 33 H, 19 R, 16 ER, 3 HR, 12 BB, 42 K). His BABIP is .362.
FCL Yankees (11-9) (Lost to the Tigers, 12-2)

A massive improvement for the 18-year-old. SS Hans Montero: 2-for-4, 2B (4), RBI, BB Montero couldn’t even hit .200 in 375 DSL plate appearances while hitting two home runs. In the FCL this year, he is hitting .353/.527/.647 in 93 PA with four home runs. RF Joel Mendez: 2-for-4, K Mendez has a 5-game hitting streak (8-for-21)
RHP Osiel Rodriguez: 2.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 K, HR 13 IP, 10 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 HR, 5 BB, 22 K. He seems ready for an extended Low-A run.

Yankees MILB 7/3: Drew Thorpe Continues to Dominate
POSTED ON JULY 3, 2023 BY ADMIN News:
Nothing to report.
Scranton (38-41; 3-1 in the second half) (Outscored Syracuse, 10-8. The Railriders trailed 7-1 going into the top of the 5th)
CF Estevan Florial: 2-for-3, RBI, 2 RS, 2 BB, 2 SB (18), CS (9) Florial is closing in on being the second 20/20 player in the minors this season (Trey Cabbage (LAA) is already there) SS Oswald Peraza: 2-for-3, 2 RBI, 2 RS, 2 BB I mentioned a recent slump he was in down here. To be honest, it barely registers with me because we know he can hit this level of pitching. Anyway, he has back-to-back multi-hit games to get himself going again. C Ben Rortvedt: 1-for-4, 2B (5), 2 RBI, 2 RS, BB, 2 K 1B Andres Chaparro: 2-for-5, 3 RBI, K Chaparro had a 16-pitch AB that resulted in a strikeout. Anyway, he has driven in 53 runs this season and has driven home 3+ runs eight times. As for why he left the game, he was ejected. 2B Jesus Bastidas: 0-for-0 LF Elijah Dunham: 0-for-4, BB, 2 K, SB (12) DH Rodolfo Duran: 0-for-5, 3 K RF Franchy Cordero: 1-for-4, HR (6), RBI, RS, BB, K PR-RF Brandon Lockridge: 0-for-0 3B Jamie Westbrook: 1-for-4, 2B (8), 2 RS, BB, K 2B-1B Max Burt: 1-for-3, RS, BB, K
LHP Tanner Tully: 4 IP, 9 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 2 HR RHP Deivi Garcia: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K 4.93 ERA (34.2 IP, 32 H, 21 R, 19 ER, 6 HR, 26 BB, 34 K) RHP Colten Brewer: 0.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K RHP Matt Bowman: (W, 4-0) 1.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K RHP Michael Feliz: 1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K RHP Aaron McGarity (S, 3): 0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
Somerset (46-28; 4-2 in the second half) (Lost to Bowie, 5-4)
CF Jasson Dominguez: 0-for-5, 3 K Eek. DH Austin Wells: 1-for-2, 2B (13), RS, 2 BB, K .249/.348/.486 in 210 PA at this level (13 doubles, 10 HR, 40 RBI, 26 R, 27 BB, 50 K). He has 22 doubles and 22 HR in 102 Double-A games. 3B Tyler Hardman: 0-for-4, K .245/.331/.571 in 245 PA. He has 19 home runs, three short of his personal best set last season. He has played in 53 fewer games. 1B T.J. Rumfield: 2-for-4, HR (15), 2 RBI, RS, K .220/.314/.469 in 245 PA (7 doubles, 15 HR, 42 RBI, 34 R, 27 BB, 44 K, 7-for-9 SB). His BABIP currently sits at .200. There is no guarantee that a BABIP will normalize during the course of a season, but one would expect his to normalize at least a bit in the second half. C Josh Breaux: 1-for-4, HR (1), RBI, RS, K An injury + the emergence of other catching options has pushed Breaux down a bit. Just remember that he hit 42 HR in 184 games between 2021-2022. RF Jeisson Rosario: 0-for-3, BB, 2 K LF Aaron Palensky: 0-for-3, BB, 2 K 2B Matt Pita: 2-for-4, RS, CS (1) SS Delvin Perez: 2-for-4, K
RHP Yoendrys Gomez: 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K 1.37 ERA (19.2 IP, 11 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 13 BB, 18 K) LHP Edgar Barclay: 2.2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K 16.2 IP, 11 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 8 BB, 26 K. Barclay was a 15th-round pick in the 2019 draft and has pitched well from the moment he signed on the dotted line. RHP Jesus Liranzo: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K LHP Lisandro Santos: (L, 1-2) 0.2 IP, 2 H, 4 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 1 K RHP Tanner Myatt: 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
Hudson Valley (42-33; 3-3 in the second half) (Walloped Wilmington, 11-0, in a 5-inning rain-shortened affair)
CF Spencer Jones: 1-for-4, 2 RBI, K Jones has hit safely in four straight games after a bit of a slump. SS Alexander Vargas: 1-for-4, RS Last 6 games: 8-for-22. Unless he goes on an insane hot streak, he won’t be able to overcome his extreme cold streak. However, he has an entire second half to show everyone that he is adjusting to this level. DH Agustin Ramirez: 3-for-3, 2 2B (3), RBI, RS, BB Ramirez (a catcher) is 9-for-17 with three doubles and a home run since his promotion. Overall, he is hitting .269/.396/.438 in 250 PA (10 doubles, 8 HR, 37 RBI, 39 R, 44 BB, 42 K, 7-for-11 SB). You should start seeing him climb on Yankees’ prospect lists. C Rafael Flores: 1-for-4, RS 1B Spencer Henson: 2-for-3, 2B (12), 3 RS .260/.348/.464 in 224 PA (12 doubles, 9 HR, 33 RBI, 39 R, 20 BB, 57 K). He probably deserves a look in Somerset, but Rumfield is occupying first base and they rotate the DH spot. RF Anthony Garcia: 1-for-1, RBI, 2 RS, 2 BB LF Aldenis Sanchez: 2-for-3, 2B (9), 2 RBI, 2 RS, SB (13) Sanchez has a 5-game hitting streak. 3B Eduardo Torrealba: 0-for-3, RBI 2B Luis Santos: 1-for-3, 3B (2), 2 RBI, RS
RHP Drew Thorpe: (W, 7-1) 5 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 8 K Thorpe has allowed one run in his last 33.2 innings (0.27 ERA). Overall, he is pitching to a 2.33 ERA in 77.1 IP (58 H, 24 R, 20 ER, 4 HR, 25 BB, 94 K). He certainly appears to be in line for a promotion.
Tampa (35-39; 2-3 in the second half) (Defeated Daytona, 3-2)
SS Jared Serna: 1-for-4, HR (14), 2 RBI, RS, K Serna breaks his 11-game homerless drought. He is hitting .287/.349/.495 in 318 PA. 3B Jesus Rodriguez: 1-for-3, BB, K, SB (10) .291/.376/.419 in 235 under-the-radar plate appearances. He has 75 walks (12.3%) and 81 strikeouts (13.3%) in 610 career PA. CF Anthony Hall: 0-for-4, 3 K C Omar Martinez: 0-for-4, 3 K DH Daury Arias: 0-for-2, HBP 2B Brett Barrera: 1-for-3 RF Jake Palmer: 0-for-3, K LF Felix Negueis: 0-for-3 1B Ronny Rojas: 1-for-2, HR (5), RBI, RS, BB, K The 21-year-old has been with the organization since back in 2018. This is his first taste of full-season ball.
RHP Baron Stuart: 6.2 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, HR 4.96 ERA (45.1 IP, 44 H, 32 R, 25 ER, 7 HR, 22 BB, 44 K) RHP Alex Bustamante: (W, 3-0) 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K 3.16 ERA (31.1 IP, 19 H, 15 R, 11 ER, 0 HR, 23 BB, 32 K). He hasn’t allowed a home run in 36.1 career innings. RHP Manny Ramirez: 0.1 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 1 K RHP Cole Ayers (S, 3): 0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
FCL Yankees (12-9) (Crushed the Phillies, 13-4)
2B Keiner Delgado: 1-for-5, HR (3), RBI, 2 RS, SB (14) If you are going to go 1-for-5, make the “1” a leadoff home run. He was pulled late in the game – probably means nothing, but something to watch. 3B Angel Rojas: 0-for-0, RS, BB SS Roderick Arias: 2-for-4, HR (4), RBI, 3 RS, 2 BB, K Arias is on a 9-game hitting streak. Prior to the streak, he was in a 0-for-22 slump. Go ahead – figure out baseball. 3B-2B Hans Montero: 1-for-4, RBI, BB, HBP, 2 K, SB (8) Montero continues his solid campaign – he is now hitting .347/.525/.625 in 99 PA with a perfect 8-for-8 stolen base rate. He has driven in 16 runs while scoring 20 times. DH Enmanuel Tejeda: 1-for-3, BB, 2 K Not all of them will make it (because how often does that happen in MLB?), but the FCL is overloaded with infielders. All four players at the top of the lineup today are 2B/SS types. CF Willy Montero: 2-for-5, HR (1), 4 RBI, RS, BB, K So far in his career, the 18-year-old has been close to as an exclusive CF as you can get without actually being one: 67 starts in CF, 4 in RF, 1 in LF. RF John Cruz: 1-for-5, RS, BB, 2 K, CS (1) LF Joel Mendez: 1-for-4, 2B (2), 2 RS, BB, 2 K C Edinson Duran: 2-for-4, 3B (2), 2 RBI, 2 RS, K Get those triples out of the way while your knees are still young, kid. 1B Enger Castellano: 2-for-5, 2B (3), 2 RBI, RS, K
RHP Luis Serna: 1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 0 K, HR For now, the results are meaningless – we just need him to be healthy. LHP Henry Lalane: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K Lalane is a big kid, so you worry about the BB%. In his debut 2021 campaign, he walked 13.3% of the batters he faced. Last year, he was able to chop that down to 7.1% while increasing his strikeout rate from 20.7% to 26.3%. LHP Allen Facundo (W, 2-0): 3.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 4 K The 20-year-old out of Venezuela has a 0.69 ERA in 13 IP (6 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 0 HR, 10 BB, 20 K) RHP Sebastian Keane: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K When it comes to pitchers like Keane, who likely has no business here, all they can do is perform and wait. He now has 22 strikeouts in 13.2 IP. LHP Miguel Pozo: 1.2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K Sometimes I wonder if the Yankees even have three LHP in their entire system – never mind having three who pitch in the same game!
DSL Bombers (11-10) (Lost to DSL Colorado, 6-4)
DH Geyber Blanco: 1-for-3, 2B (7), RS, HBP, K The 17-year-old is 17-for-51 (.333) with seven doubles in his debut season. LF Abrahan Ramirez: 2-for-3, RBI, RS The 18-year-old is hitting .324/.447/.448 in 132 PA in 2022-2023. He was signed for $30,000 in 2022.
RHP Chalniel Arias (L, 1-1): 3.1 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 K 2.19 ERA (24.2 IP, 22 H, 12 R, 6 ER, 1 HR, 5 BB, 39 K) RHP Mitchell Chirinos: 3.1 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K LHP Rafelin Nivar: 1.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 0 K Nivar was a $10,000 signing during the 2022 signing period.
DSL Yankees (15-5) (Squeaked past the DSL Rockies squad, 7-6)
CF Brando Mayea: 1-for-4, 2 RS, BB, K, SB (10) .289/.385/.467 in 52 PA (5 doubles, 1 HR, 7 RBI, 11 R, 6 BB, 11 K, 10-for-10 SB) C Josue Gonzalez: 2-for-2, 2 2B (9), RBI, 2 RS, BB The 19-year-old is off to an 18-for-40 (.450) start with 18 RBI, 17 R, and 20 BB in 13 games. SS Luis Suarez: 1-for-4, RBI, BB, SB (9) RF Jose Castro: 2-for-3, 2 RBI, BB, K 3B Anthony Pena: 3-for-4, 2B (3), 3B (1), RBI, 3 RS, K The 17-year-old is 9-for-27 in his debut season.
RHP Jorge Luna: 4 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 2 K, HR RHP Alexis Paulino: 4 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 2 K

Yankees MILB 7/4: Everson Pereira Homers in Triple-A Debut
POSTED ON JULY 4, 2023 BY ADMIN News:
OF Everson Pereira is now a member of the Scranton Railriders.
Ranked as the #4 prospect in the system by Pipeline, Pereira hit well for Somerset this season. In 185 plate appearances, he hit .292/.362/.545 (143 wRC+) with ten home runs and 31 runs batted in. He plays all three outfield positions, though there is talk he is best suited at a corner. This happens to a lot of prospects as they mature. I am not sure if Pereira has completely outgrown center field, but he likely has enough bat to play a corner anyway.
The one negative in his game is a K% that sits at 29.2% this season. A high batting average and high K% typically mean a high BABIP, and that is the case with Pereira. His BABIP is .373. Also, he has a history of some annoying injuries. Last season, he set a personal best with 102 games played. An injury earlier this season likely keeps him away from breaking that record.
Can he make it to MLB in 2023? Yes. He is already on the 40-man roster, so it will be a relatively simple transaction once they deem him ready. If not, he is certainly a 2024 option if they don’t use him as trade bait.
To make room for Pereira, the Yankees demoted Elijah Dunham to Somerset. Dunham hasn’t been able to get much going this year, so perhaps this will jumpstart him into a solid second half.
Scranton (38-42; 3-2 in the second half) (Lost to Lehigh Valley, 5-4. They loaded the bases in the 9th with Oswald Peraza and Everson Pereira coming up, and couldn’t get the game tied. Baseball!)
CF Estevan Florial: 1-for-3, RS, 2 BB Last 6 games: 9-for-23 (.391; 1 double, 1 triple, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 9 R, 7 BB, 4 K). Whether you think he is MLB caliber or not, there is no doubt that Florial has done everything he can to earn that shot. SS Oswald Peraza: 0-for-3, RS, 2 BB, 2 K .280/.360/.543 in 186 PA. RF Everson Pereira: 2-for-5, HR (1), 3 RBI, RS, K This is what you call a successful debut. He homered in his first at-bat (an at-bat where he battled back from 0-2 to make it 3-2). The home run traveled 426 feet at 111.4 MPH. His talent is legitimate. DH Ben Rortvedt: 1-for-2, RS, BB, HBP Rortvedt is hitting .304/.439/.519 in 98 PA at this level. 1B Andres Chaparro: 1-for-2, 2 BB Chaparro has nine walks in his last nine games. C Carlos Narvaez: 0-for-4, K LF Franchy Cordero: 0-for-4, K 3B Jamie Westbrook: 2-for-4 PR Brandon Lockridge: 0-for-0 2B Jesus Bastidas: 1-for-4, K
RHP Jhony Brito: 5 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 5 K Brito’s statistics down here are meaningless. I am not just saying that because he owns a 6.39 ERA. He is down here to continue to work on things for the inevitable call-up at some point later this season. RHP Michael Gomez: (L, 0-4) 2 IP, 1 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 1 K RHP Greg Weissert: 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K 3.20 ERA (25.1 IP, 19 H, 13 R, 9 ER, 3 HR, 12 BB, 39 K) LHP D.J. Snelten: 0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 1 K
Somerset (46-29; 4-3 in the second half) (Lost to Reading, 5-4)
SS Trey Sweeney: 1-for-2, RS, BB, HBP, CS (4) .246/.365/.430 in 326 PA (15 doubles, 1 triple, 11 HR, 36 RBI, 47 R, 46 BB, 61 K, 10-for-14 SB). He has started July 3-for-10 with three walks and a strikeout. CF Jasson Dominguez: 1-for-4, 2 SB (22) Since we tend to dwell on negatives, here are two positives: 22-for-25 SB (88%); 56 BB in 327 PA (17.1%). C Austin Wells: 1-for-3, SF, 3 RBI, K Wells has 86 RBI in 102 games at this level. 3B Tyler Hardman: 0-for-4, 3 K They gave him a day off after his 3-HR game and he is 0-for-8 since. Don’t let the small sample size ruin my narrative. 1B T.J. Rumfield: 0-for-3, HBP RF Jeisson Rosario: 0-for-2, 2 BB, CS (5) LF Aaron Palensky: 0-for-4, 2 K Palensky is in a 4-for-34 slump. He is hitting .213/.396/.440 since his promotion. DH Eric Wagaman: 2-for-3, 2 RS, BB, SB (13) .333/.388/.543 in 116 PA with a surprising 13-for-14 SB rate. 2B Mickey Gasper: 1-for-4, 2B (3), RBI, RS Gasper’s first career appearance at a position other than P (two games)/C/1B/DH.
RHP Richard Fitts: 6.2 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 8 K Two of the three walks were compiled in the 7th inning, where Fitts went over the 100-pitch mark. Season: 3.78 ERA (83.1 IP, 79 H, 36 R, 35 ER, 13 HR, 20 BB, 92 K) RHP Danny Watson: 0.2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 0 K, HR He hadn’t allowed a run since being promoted, so you can say he was due for a tough outing. LHP Josh Maciejewski: (L, 0-1) 1.2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 2 K
Hudson Valley (43-33; 4-3 in the second half) (Defeated Jersey Shore, 4-2)
CF Spencer Jones: 1-for-4, 2B (20), RBI, RS, K If it felt as if he was stuck on 19 doubles forever, you are correct. This is his first double since 6/14. 2B Ben Cowles: 1-for-4, K C Agustin Ramirez: 1-for-3, 2B (4), RBI, BB Ramirez is 10-for-20 since his promotion (4 doubles, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 4 R, 2 BB, 1 K). LF Christopher Familia: 0-for-4, 2 K Familia is 3-for-22 since his promotion. We all knew this might be a challenge – let’s see how he adjusts. 1B Rafael Flores: 0-for-4, 3 K SS Alexander Vargas: 0-for-4, K DH Antonio Gomez: 0-for-4, 2 K RF Grant Richardson: 2-for-4, RS, 2 K, CS (1) 3B Marcos Cabrera: 3-for-3, HR (4), 2 RBI, 2 RS Cabrera’s second 3-hit game of the season. This is his first home run since May 28th.
RHP Tyrone Yulie: (W, 4-5) 5 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 9 K, HR 3.99 ERA (65.1 IP, 47 H, 37 R, 29 ER, 9 HR, 38 BB, 79 K). A strong start to July after he posted a 2.35 ERA in four June starts (23 IP, 14 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 2 HR, 11 BB, 24 K) RHP Bailey Dees: 2 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 3 K 2.10 ERA (34.1 IP, 17 H, 9 R, 8 ER, 2 HR, 13 BB, 52 K) RHP Carlos Gomez: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K LHP Clay Aguilar (S, 1): 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K Aguilar’s first professional save. Congrats!
Tampa (35-39; 2-4 in the second half) (Lost to Dunedin, 4-2)
DH Jared Serna: 1-for-5, K He isn’t on a “hot streak,” but he does own a 6-game hitting streak (7-for-27; 2 doubles, 1 home run) SS Brenny Escanio: 0-for-4, 3 K C Ben Rice: 1-for-3, 2 K Rice is 1-for-6 with three walks on his rehab stint. C Jesus Rodriguez: 1-for-1, RS Rodriguez is 34-for-95 since June 1st (.358; 7 doubles, 1 triple, 3 HR, 15 RBI, 15 R, 14 BB, 13 K) CF Anthony Hall: 1-for-2, RS, HBP, BB, K LF Daury Arias: 1-for-4, 2 K 3B Brett Barrera: 2-for-4, 3B (1), RBI Barrera’s first career triple (44 career games) RF Tayler Aguilar: 0-for-2, K RF Felix Negueis: 0-for-2, K 1B Beau Brewer: 1-for-4 2B Jose Colmenares: 0-for-3, BB, K Colmenares’ first game since August 9, 2021. He was signed in 2019 for an undisclosed amount. In 57 career games heading into tonight, he hit .214/.318/.326 with four home runs and 26 RBI.
RHP Leonardo Pestana: 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K 4.79 ERA (35.2 IP, 35 H, 20 R, 19 ER, 7 HR, 17 BB, 47 K). Injuries limited him to only three appearances between 2021-2022, so they are taking it easy with him. RHP Kris Bow: 3.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 3 K RHP Matt Keating (L, 5-6): 1.2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 4 K, HR
FCL Yankees (12-10) (Lost to the Phillies, 5-4)
2B Keiner Delgado: 0-for-5, K SS Roderick Arias: 1-for-4, BB, CS (3) Arias is now a proud owner of a 10-game hitting streak (15-for-39). Overall, he is hitting .263/.411/.461 in 95 PA with four home runs and 16 runs batted in. DH Hans Montero: 1-for-5, 3 K 3B Enmanuel Tejeda: 2-for-4, RS, BB, K .324/.520/.515 in 98 PA with three home runs and 15 RBI. He is also 13-for-15 stealing bases. Tejeda is only 18 years old. CF Willy Montero: 2-for-5, 2B (5), RBI, RS, K DSL, 2022: .262/.396/.382 in 235 PA FCL, 2023: .291/.356/.418 in 90 PA. Yes, the BB rate has gone down – but while the FCL isn’t the perfect league, the DSL is a crazy league. I am never alarmed by walk rates going down when a player gets away from that league. RF John Cruz: 2-for-4, HR (5), 2 RBI, RS .227/.337/.480 in 89 PA (5 HR, 26 RBI, 10 R, 12 BB, 21 K) LF Joel Mendez: 1-for-3, BB, K 1B Kelvin Espino: 2-for-3, 2 2B (4), RBI, BB, K
RHP Carlos Lagrange: 3.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K 3.71 ERA (17 IP, 9 H, 9 R, 7 ER, 1 HR, 14 BB, 22 K) RHP Osiel Rodriguez: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K I firmly believe that Rodriguez belongs in Tampa. RHP Montana Semmell: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K A needed dominant performance by Semmell, who pitched well in limited action here in 2022.He was drafted in the 36th round out of high school back in 2019. The Yankees nabbed him for $125,000 – an important number because $125,000 is the max you can give a player after the 10th round without it counting against your bonus pool.

Yankees MILB 7/6: Roderick Arias Homers Twice
POSTED ON JULY 6, 2023 BY ADMIN News:
RHP Zach Greene‘s rehab is over and is on his way to Scranton. Greene has some credibility in the baseball world, as the Mets chose him in last winter’s Rule 5 draft. The 26-year-old pitched to a 3.42 ERA in 68.1 innings with a 96/32 K/BB ratio for Scranton in 2022.
The Yankees claimed LHP Anthony Misiewicz off of waivers from the Tigers organization. He will take the 40-man roster spot that was occupied by RHP Jimmy Cordero. The Yankees will have another 40-man roster decision to make tomorrow when LHP Carlos Rodon is activated off of the 60-day injured list. It is possible they can transfer OF Greg Allen to the 60-day list. It also isn’t impossible that they will simply DFA Misiewicz himself and try to get him through waivers.
Scranton (40-42; 5-2 in the second half) (Leveled Lehigh Valley (again), 18-2. Remember, they won 14-0 last night)
CF Estevan Florial: 1-for-4, HR (21), 3 RBI, RS, 2 K .295/.391/.601 in 317 PA (11 doubles, 4 triples, 21 HR, 50 RBI, 57 R, 45 BB, 91 K, 18-for-27 SB) PH-RF Max Burt: 0-for-0, BB SS Oswald Peraza: 1-for-6, RS, 2 K DH Ben Rortvedt: 3-for-6, 2 HR (6), 3 RBI, 2 RS, K .311/.431/.567 in 109 PA at this level (5 doubles, 6 HR, 21 RBI, 19 R) 1B Andres Chaparro: 1-for-3, RBI, 2 RS, 3 BB, K We love the power – but Chaparro is adding some walks lately. He has walked six times in the last three games and 13 times in his last 11 games. C Carlos Narvaez: 1-for-4, 2 RS, 2 BB, 2 K LF Franchy Cordero: 3-for-4, HR (7), 3 RBI, 3 RS, BB 3B Jamie Westbrook: 2-for-5, 3 RS, K 2B Jesus Bastidas: 1-for-4, HR (8), 2 RBI, 2 RS, HBP RF-CF Brandon Lockridge: 4-for-4, 2B (5), 2 RBI, RS, BB, SB (6) Lockridge has three 4-hit games in his career. He is hitting .317/.388/.483 since his promotion and .314/.392/.500 overall (12 doubles, 4 triples, 3 HR, 21 RBI, 22 R, 21 BB, 39 K, 23-for-26 SB)
RHP Mitch Spence: (W, 7-4) 7.1 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 7 K, HR Spence tosses 7+ innings for the second start in a row and 4th time this season. He now owns a 4.45 ERA in 91 IP (90 H, 51 R, 45 ER, 17 HR, 34 BB, 79 K) RHP Blas Castano: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K He was called up today to replace Deivi Garcia and did his job to close this one out.
Somerset (47-30; 5-4 in the second half) (Lost to Reading, 3-2)
SS Trey Sweeney: 0-for-2, 2 BB, K, SB (11), CS (5) CF Jasson Dominguez: 0-for-3, BB, 3 K Dominguez keeps going above and below the Mendoza line – he is back below at .198. DH Austin Wells: 0-for-4, 2 K LF Elijah Dunham: 0-for-2, RS, 2 BB, K 3B Tyler Hardman: 0-for-4, 2 K 1B Eric Wagaman: 2-for-4, CS (2) Wagaman is hitting .339 and has four straight multi-hit games (6-game hitting streak) RF Jeisson Rosario: 0-for-3, BB, K C Josh Breaux: 0-for-4, 3 K 2B Matt Pita: 0-for-1, RBI, RS, 2 BB, K
RHP Chase Hampton: 5 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 10 K, HR Hampton has struck out ten batters exactly four times this season. At this level: 4.03 ERA (22.1 IP, 19 H, 11 R, 10 ER, 2 HR, 6 BB, 26 K). Overall, Hampton is up to 103 strikeouts in 69.1 innings. LHP Lisandro Santos: (L, 1-3) 2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K RHP Jesus Liranzo: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K Since signing: 4.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 HR, 2 BB, 7 K
Hudson Valley (4-33; 6-3 in the second half) (Defeated Jersey Shore, 5-4)
CF Spencer Jones: 1-for-3, BB, HBP, K, 2 SB (21), CS (7) .263/.330/.470 in 312 PA. I think most would have expected 21 HR and 10 stolen bases, not vise versa. Anyway, he has the athleticism to steal some bases – whether he will do a lot of that in a few years is anyone’s guess. SS Ben Cowles: 3-for-4, 2 RBI, BB, K Cowles’ second 3-hit game of 2023. C Agustin Ramirez: 0-for-5, 2 K You didn’t expect him to hit .500 the rest of the way, right? DH Christopher Familia: 0-for-5, 2 K 1B Rafael Flores: 1-for-4, HR (2), RBI, RS, BB, K .291/.362/.370 in 257 PA. He isn’t small (6’4″), so you wonder if the Yankees think there is some future power to tap into. RF Anthony Garcia: 0-for-3, 2 BB, K LF Grant Richardson: 1-for-4, HR (7), RBI, RS, HBP, 3 K 3B Marcos Cabrera: 2-for-5, HR (5), RBI, 2 RS, 3 K Cabrera has homered in back-to-back games. 2B Luis Santos: 1-for-2, RS, 2 BB
LHP Joel Valdez: (W, 2-4) 6.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 2 K Too many walks, but he gives them some length and keeps runs off the board. RHP Jack Neely: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K 2.48 ERA (36.1 IP, 19 H, 12 R, 10 ER, 3 HR, 14 BB, 58 K). At some point, you have to make room at the next level for a prospect. RHP Indigo Diaz: (S, 1) 1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, HR
Tampa (37-41; 6-6 in the second half) (Squeaked past Dunedin, 5-4)
2B Jared Serna: 2-for-5, 2 2B (18), RS, K Serna now has an 8-game hitting streak (11-for-38; .289). No player goes through a full season without a slump, but Serna has been consistent most of the season. SS Brenny Escanio: 1-for-4, RS, BB, 2 K C Ben Rice: 2-for-5, 2B (2), 2 RBI, RS, K, SB (1) Rice plays a full game behind the plate, so he is probably close to being done with his rehab. Of course, there are logjams at catcher all over the organization. 1B Omar Martinez: 2-for-4, 2 RBI, BB, K, SB (5) 3B Jesus Rodriguez: 1-for-5, RBI, 2 K He made his one hit count: Broke a 4-4 tie in the top of the 9th. CF Daury Arias: 1-for-4, BB, K DH Brett Barrera: 0-for-4, BB LF Jake Palmer: 3-for-3, 3B (1), RS, HBP Palmer has back-to-back 3-hit games. He is hitting .343/.500/.486 in 46 PA since his promotion (9 BB, 2 K) RF Felix Negueis: 0-for-4, 2 K
RHP Hayden Merda: 4.2 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 5 BB, 5 K RHP Shane Gray: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K Gray had a tough game two outings back (0.2 IP, 5 R) – good to see this kind of bounce back. RHP Yorlin Calderon: (W, 3-2) 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K 2.68 ERA (43.2 IP, 32 H, 15 R, 13 ER, 4 HR, 12 BB, 54 K) RHP Cole Ayers (S, 4): 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
FCL Yankees (12-11) (Lost a crazy one to the Blue Jays, 14-10)
DH Keiner Delgado: 1-for-6, 2B (9), RS, K, SB (15) Delgado is in a little 4-for-21 slump since the start of July. After drawing 16 walks in June, he has yet to walk in July. SS Roderick Arias: 2-for-3, 2 HR (6), 5 RBI, 3 RS, BB, K, SB (9) Arias’ first career multi-HR game extends his hitting streak to 11. He ties his personal best for RBI in a game, set exactly one month ago. 3B Hans Montero: 1-for-4, RS, BB, 2 SB (10) .333/.505/.580 in 109 PA. He has reached base safely in 22 of his 23 games played. 2B Enmanuel Tejeda: 3-for-4, RBI, BB, 2 SB (15), CS (3) .347/.534/.528 in 103 PA. He increases his hitting streak to seven and he has reached base safely in 21 of his 22 games played. CF Willy Montero: 2-for-5, RBI, RS, 2 K Montero’s third straight 2-hit game. RF John Cruz: 1-for-4, RS, BB, 2 K LF Dayro Perez: 2-for-5, RS, K, CS (1) C Edinson Duran: 0-for-4, HBP, 2 K 1B Enger Castellano: 2-for-4, 2B (4), 2 RBI, 2 RS, HBP 13-for-45 (.289) since the 0-for-9 start to the season.
RHP Ryan Harvey (L, 0-1): 0.2 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 2 K Every pitcher has their “first rough professional appearance.” Let’s see how he rebounds. RHP Sebastian Keane: 2 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
DSL Yankees (16-6) (Split a doubleheader with the Mets Blue)
Game 1 (Won, 5-1)
3B Luis Suarez: 1-for-4, RBI, RS, 2 K, SB (10) 26-for-30 stealing bases in his 51-game career. CF Jose Castro: 2-for-4, 2 RBI, RS, 2 K, 2 SB (3) 2B Santiago Gomez: 2-for-4, 2B (6), RBI, RS .351/.494/.561 in 77 PA with 19 RBI and 19 runs scored. He was a $10,000 signing. One issue is that he is 19, but he won’t turn 20 until April.
RHP Sabier Marte: 4.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 K 2.93 ERA (15.1 IP, 15 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 0 HR, 6 BB, 19 K
Game 2 (Lost, 14-9, in extra innings)
CF Brando Mayea: 0-for-2, 3 BB, CS (1) Four walks in ten June games. Five walks in three July games. 2B Luis Escudero: 1-for-3, 2 RBI, RS, 2 BB, K, SB (2) LF Jhon Imbert: 1-for-2, 2 RS, 2 BB, SB (6) .294/.456/.529 in 68 PA. C Gabriel Bersing: 2-for-5, 3B (1), 3 RBI, 2 RS, K SS Anthony Pena: 1-for-2, RBI, RS, 3 BB The 17-year-old is 10-for-29 with three doubles and a home run. 3B Joshua Leito: 0-for-0, RS, 4 BB, CS (1) 2-for-6 with seven walks in limited action for the 18-year-old.
DSL Bombers (11-11) (Lost to Astros Blue, 6-2)

The $30,000 signing was described as being one of the fastest runners in all of professional baseball the moment he put his pen to paper. They don’t hand out scores of 80 often on the 20-80 scouting scale, but he got exactly that for his speed. Now to develop everything else. 1B Johan Ferreira: 1-for-2, 2 BB, K, SB (4), CS (1)
RHP Sunayro Martina: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 5 K 8.2 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 0 HR, 10 BB, 14 K

Great to see Andy Shapiro hitting and producing. He started the season something like 1-30. Since then, his batting average must be pretty good.

.248 BA with 16 homers. That BA would be about average for the league. On the Yankees he would be top 5

He allowed seven walks in five innings over the course of two starts a few weeks ago, so that explains the elevated walk rate. We just patiently await to see when they start to stretch him out more. LHP Edgar Barclay: 4 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 6 K 0.44 ERA (20.2 IP, 13 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 0 HR, 9 BB, 32 K) RHP Blas Castano: 0.2 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 0 K RHP Alex Mauricio: (L, 1-1) 2.2 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 K
Hudson Valley (46-34; 7-7 in the second half) (Defeated Jersey Shore, 6-4)
DH Alexander Vargas: 2-for-4, SF, 2 RBI, RS, K He is 11-for-40 (.275) in his last ten games. SS Ben Cowles: 2-for-5, 2B (10), 2 RBI .252/.339/.392. He is 8-for-23 (.348) to begin July. C Rafael Flores: 2-for-4, RS, K .290/.361/.366 in 266 PA. LF Anthony Garcia: 0-for-4, RS, 2 K 1B Spencer Henson: 0-for-3, BB CF Aldenis Sanchez: 1-for-4, 2 RBI, 2 K, CS (6) Sanchez now has an 8-game hitting streak (12-for-31) RF Grant Richardson: 0-for-3, BB 3B Eduardo Torrealba: 2-for-4, RS, K, SB (6) 2B Luis Santos: 2-for-4, 2 RS, K, SB (4)
RHP Juan Carela: 5.1 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 6 K, HR 2.99 ERA (72.1 IP, 54 H, 30 R, 24 ER, 3 HR, 26 BB, 93 K). The 21-year-old is putting on a clinic and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him in Somerset before the season ends. Last season, they moved him up to this level for seven starts – he didn’t do well, but he obviously learned a thing or two. RHP Mason Vinyard: (W, 1-0) 1.2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 2 K Vinyard stranded two of Carela’s runners. Excellent job – though he couldn’t keep his own runs off the board in his second inning of work. RHP Bailey Dees: (S, 4) 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K 1.98 ERA (36.1 IP, 19 H, 9 R, 8 ER, 14 BB, 55 K). Pure dominance.
Tampa (39-41; 8-6 in the second half) (Defeated Dunedin, 9-5)
2B Jared Serna: 2-for-4, RBI, RS, BB, K Serna has three multi-hit games in his last four games played and 24 multi-hit games this season (74 games played). He is hitting .288/.347/.486 in 343 PA with 14 home runs, 51 RBI, and 54 runs. As of this writing, he leads the FSL in home runs and runs batted in and is third in runs scored. LF Jesus Rodriguez: 2-for-5, 2 HR (6), 3 RBI, 2 RS, K Rodriguez’s first career multi-HR game. He hit six home runs in 94 games between 2019-2022 (remember that there wasn’t a season in 2020) and has six in 64 games this season. Rodriguez is hitting .291/.369/.439 in 256 PA. I will always say it: I don’t care what your prospect ranking is – if you hit, I pay attention. The Yankees have used him at C (11 starts)/1B (12)/3B (34)/LF (3). C Ben Rice: 1-for-4, HR (1), 4 RBI, RS, HBP He is hitting .311/.511/.516 in 21 games between here and Hudson Valley. He is here on a rehab stint. DH Omar Martinez: 0-for-3, RS, 2 BB SS Brenny Escanio: 1-for-5, RBI, 2 K 3B Brett Barrera: 1-for-5 CF Daury Arias: 1-for-4, RS, K, 2 SB (9) 1B Beau Brewer: 1-for-3, 2 RS, BB RF Felix Negueis: 0-for-2, RS, 2 BB, K
RHP Justin Lange: 2.2 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 4 BB, 5 K 4.64 ERA (54.1 IP, 33 H, 32 R, 28 ER, 5 HR, 46 BB, 85 K). So far, he is giving me the vibe of a kid that they will eventually throw in the bullpen and hope he can develop enough command/control to dominate for an inning or two. RHP Yorlin Calderon: (W, 4-2) 1.1 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K 2.80 ERA (45 IP, 36 H, 16 R, 14 ER, 4 HR, 12 BB, 56 K) RHP Matt Keating: 2.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 4 K 4.41 ERA (34.2 IP, 34 H, 21 R, 17 ER, 3 HR, 19 BB, 56 K). He tossed 41 pitches today and gave up that run towards the end of his outing. RHP Adam Stone: 1.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K LHP Geoffrey Gilbert: 1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K 2.27 ERA (35.2 IP, 26 H, 10 R, 9 ER, 1 HR, 15 BB, 41 K)
FCL Yankees (13-11)
The game against the Tigers was postponed due to rain. They will try their best to make it up on July 20th.
DSL Yankees (16-8) (Lost to Rangers Red, 7-4)
CF Brando Mayea: 0-for-5, RBI, K .268/.397/.411 in 68 PA (11 walks, 12 strikeouts; 12-for-14 SB) SS Santiago Gomez: 1-for-5, 3 K, SB (9) .328/.477/.516 in 86 PA. He has 19 RBI in 18 games. 3B Jhon Imbert: 3-for-4, 2 2B (5), 2 RS, 2 SB (8) .333/.468/.567 in 77 PA for the 19-year-old. This is his third year at this level. LF Andres Lacruz: 1-for-2, RBI, RS, 2 BB, 3 SB (11) Lacruz was 1-for-4 stealing bases in 2022 (20 games). This year, he is 11-for-12 in 17 games. SS Jelson Coca: 1-for-2, RS, 2 BB, K The 17-year-old is hitting .235/.339/.294 in 15 games. This is his professional debut season. 1B Andry Javier: 2-for-3, 2B (3), 2 RBI, BB, K The 19-year-old switch hitter has improved from .111/.246/.167 (26 games) last year to .372/.518/.442 (15 games) this year.
RHP Stanly Alcantara: 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 2 K The 6’6″ 19-year-old has a 2.79 ERA in 9.2 IP (9 H, 8 R, 3 ER, 0 HR, 14 BB, 4 K). Now that is a DSL line. LHP Pedro Rodriguez: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
DSL Bombers (11-13) (Lost to the Phillies, 16-1 – just in case you are having a bad day)
CF Gabriel Lara: 1-for-2, HR (3), RBI, RS, BB Lara recorded the squad’s only hit of the day (it came in the 6th inning). The speedster is hitting .277/.400/.523 in 80 PA (5 doubles, 1 triple, 3 HR, 14 RBI, 14 R, 13 BB, 11 K, 7-for-10 SB) LF Geyber Blanco: 0-for-1, 2 BB, K The 17-year-old is hitting .315/.403/.444 in 62 PA (7 doubles, 5 RBI, 12 R, 5 BB, 10 K)
Infielder Johan Ferreira (2 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 1 K) and catcher Carlos Herrera (0.1 IP) were asked to get the final seven outs.

Yankees MILB 7/9: Drew Thorpe is Cruising
POSTED ON JULY 9, 2023 BY ADMIN News:
Just like their MLB counterparts, the minor leagues will be taking Monday – Thursday off. The only exception is the DSL – poor kids.
Tonight is the MLB draft. Who do I think the Yankees will select? I couldn’t tell you who most of the prospects are. If they don’t end up with Dave Parrish 2.0, that will be a good start.
Scranton (41-43; 7-3 in the second half. They will need to win the second half in order to make it to the playoffs)
Their game against Lehigh Valley was postponed, so they will get an early start to their vacation. Here are some notes:
Estevan Florial: .294/.389/.596 (138 wRC+; 14% BB, 28.7% K) – His 21 home runs are good for second in the International League (Luken Baker (STL) has 22).
Oswald Peraza: .267/.354/.506 (111 wRC+; 8.7% BB, 17.5% K) – The numbers may not scream at you (the International League is an offensive league), but Peraza seriously has nothing to prove here.
Everson Pereira: 9-for-17 (.529) with a home run and seven runs batted in since his promotion. Can a hot July get him to the Bronx in early August? The organization needs a left fielder and could determine that Pereira can do just as much as a trade option. We have a few weeks to figure all that out.
Andres Chaparro: .242/.334/.464 (93 wRC+; 11.7% BB, 20.9% K) – He leads the organization with 60 runs batted in. The fact that a .798 OPS is good for only a 93 wRC+ emphasizes how offensive this league is. Brent Rooker (Oakland) has a .797 OPS in MLB and his wRC+ is 125.
Ben Rortvedt: .298/.416/.543 (141 wRC+; 14.2% BB, 23% K) – He just has to stay healthy.
Carlos Narvaez: .271/.416/.441 (121 wRC+; 18.1% BB, 20.8% K) – Don’t be surprised if you see his name come up in trade talks in the next few weeks. No, he cannot headline a trade. However, he is an upper-level catcher who is having success with the bat. That has value.
Somerset (47-32; 5-6 in the second half) (The game against Reading was suspended in the bottom of the 9th with the score tied at 4-4. They will finish it on August 15th)
SS Trey Sweeney: 1-for-4, RS LF Jasson Dominguez: 0-for-4, K C Austin Wells: 1-for-3, 2B (14) Don’t worry about why Wells was pulled – he was ejected from the game. Anyway, he is now up to 107 Double-A games over the last two seasons. In those games (482 PA), he is hitting .255 with 22 doubles, 1 triple, 23 homers, 91 RBI, 61 R, 57 BB (11.8%), and 112 K (23.2%). He is also 11-for-11 SB. C Mickey Gasper: 0-for-1 3B Tyler Hardman: 0-for-3, BB, 2 K 1B T.J. Rumfield: 0-for-3, HBP CF Elijah Dunham: 3-for-4, HR (1), RBI, RS, K This is a welcome sight for Dunham. He had four 3-hit efforts for Scranton this year, though two of them came in April. Hopefully, he gets a nice confidence boost and gets back up there quickly. RF Aaron Palensky: 0-for-4, K Palensky is down to .202 since his promotion (17-for-84; 5 doubles, 4 HR, 11 RBI, 20 R, 21 BB, 21 K, 7-for-8 SB). The walks have kept him afloat at this level after his .352/.434/.744 insanity with Hudson Valley. DH Josh Breaux: 2-for-4, RS 2B Matt Pita: 1-for-3, HR (1), 2 RBI, RS, K Pita also hit a pair of home runs down in Tampa during his rehab stint.
RHP Richard Fitts: 6 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 4 K 3.63 ERA (89.1 IP, 82 H, 37 R, 36 ER, 13 HR, 21 BB, 96 K). His last 9 starts: 2.09 ERA (56 IP, 44 H, 14 R, 13 ER, 11 BB, 60 K) RHP Jesus Liranzo: 1 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 1 K LHP Lisandro Santos: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
Hudson Valley (47-34; 8-7 in the second half) (Shut out Jersey Shore, 2-0. The Renegades already clinched a playoff berth with their first-half title)
2B Ben Cowles: 1-for-4, 2B (11), RS, K Cowles has doubled in three straight games and 9-for-27 (.333) in July. SS Alexander Vargas: 0-for-4, K Vargas, who got off to a very encouraging start, enters the break at .215/.264/.348 in 277 PA (10 doubles, 3 triples, 6 HR, 33 RBI, 33 R, 10-for-15 SB) C Agustin Ramirez: 1-for-4, 2B (5), RBI, K Since promotion: 14-for-38 (.368; 5 doubles, 2 HR, 7 RBI, 2 BB, 5 K) DH Christopher Familia: 0-for-4, 4 K Since promotion: 8-for-40 (.200; 2 doubles, 1 HR, 5 RBI, 7 R, 1 BB, 16 K). The Yankees needed to challenge him and he certainly is being challenged. 1B Spencer Henson: 0-for-3, 2 K RF Anthony Garcia: 1-for-3, HR (4), RBI, RS, 2 K .197/.301/.322 in 176 PA. LF Aldenis Sanchez: 1-for-3, K Sanchez is now the proud owner of a 9-game hitting streak. 3B Marcos Cabrera: 0-for-3, 2 K CF Grant Richardson: 0-for-3
RHP Drew Thorpe: (W, 8-1) 7 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 7 K Thorpe has allowed one run in his last 40.2 innings. Overall, he owns a 2.13 ERA in 84.1 IP (61 H, 24 R, 20 ER, 4 HR, 28 BB, 101 K). It is hard to believe his ERA was 4.26 at one point. Yes, he has earned a promotion – that goes without saying. RHP Jack Neely: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K 2.41 ERA (37.1 IP, 19 H, 12 R, 10 ER, 3 HR, 14 BB, 59 K). Kids like Neely should overpower this level, and he is. RHP Luis Velasquez (S, 1): 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
Tampa (40-41; 9-6 in the second half) (Defeated Dunedin, 6-1. They didn’t get off to a great start to 2023 but now they are on the brink of reaching .500)
2B Jared Serna: 0-for-3, RS, BB, K He goes into the break hitting .285/.346/.481 in 347 PA (18 doubles, 1 triple, 14 HR, 51 RBI, 55 R, 28 BB (8.1%), 59 K (17%), 16-for-21 SB). There isn’t much to complain about with Serna – he has been everything you would want him to be. From the leadoff spot, he leads the FSL in home runs and RBI, while ranking third in runs scored. 3B Jesus Rodriguez: 0-for-3, BB DH Ben Rice: 2-for-3, 2B (3), RS, BB Rice was having no issues with High-A pitching before his injury – did we expect him to have any trouble here during his rehab stint? The rust is seemingly shaken off. C Omar Martinez: 3-for-4, HR (6), 2 RBI, 2 RS .237/.366/.374 in 238 PA (7 doubles,1 triple, 6 HR, 29 RBI, 29 R, 37 BB (15.5%), 72 K (30.3%), 5-for-6 SB). I love the walks – the strikeouts need improvement. SS Brenny Escanio: 0-for-3, RS, BB, 2 K CF Daury Arias: 1-for-3, 2 RBI, RS, BB The toolsy outfielder is hitting .232/.320/.337 in 278 PA. LF Jake Palmer: 1-for-3, RBI, HBP Palmer is 13-for-40 (.325) with three doubles and an 11/2 BB/K since his promotion. 1B Ronny Rojas: 0-for-4, 3 K RF Felix Negueis: 0-for-4
RHP Baron Stuart: (W, 2-5) 5.2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K Back-to-back strong efforts. Season: 4.59 ERA (51 IP, 47 H, 33 R, 26 ER, 7 HR, 23 BB, 49 K) RHP Ocean Gabonia: 2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K RHP Cole Ayers: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
FCL Yankees (13-11)
Day off.
DSL Yankees (16-8)
Day off.
DSL Bombers (11-13)
Day off.

Yankees MILB 7/14: Jared Serna: 2 HR, 7 RBI
POSTED ON JULY 14, 2023 BY ADMIN News:
What do I think about the Yankees draft?
I don’t pretend to be something I am not. I don’t follow much college baseball and I sure as heck don’t pay attention to high school baseball – so how much can I really know?
It seems like a bit of a typical draft – perhaps a little more “meh” than some recent ones. They will pay George Lombard Jr. an over-slot bonus, pay players without much leverage well below their slot, and mix in some of the kids they drafted beyond the 10th round. I will read up more on them as they make their debuts. Until then, I grade their draft somewhere between a 20 and an 80 on the 20-80 scale.
You are going to start to see Top 100 lists come out. As you get lower on those lists, remember that publications are choosing between several players for the last several slots. Is there a major difference between #97 and #105? Probably not – but it still is beneficial to find yourself on the list.
Baseball America had a nice write-up on Chase Hampton as one of their “Notable Risers.” He went from unraked to 61st. Meanwhile, Prospects Live! didn’t rank him at all (and only ranked two Yankees – Jasson Dominguez and Spencer Jones).
The Yankees signed veteran cornerman Jake Lamb to a minor league deal. Lamb, who has experience playing all four corner positions, hit .216/.259/.353 with two home runs in 18 games for the Angels earlier this season. In 723 career games, he has a .235/.326/.427 (97 OPS+) line with 96 home runs. Most of the good stuff was compiled back in 2016-2017 when he hit 59 home runs and drove in 196 runs in 300 games for Arizona.
Scranton (41-44; 7-4 in the second half) (Lost to Norfolk, 7-3)
CF Estevan Florial: 0-for-3, 2 BB, K 47 walks in 68 games (54 in 101 games last season) SS Oswald Peraza: 0-for-3, 2 BB, K Peraza has nine walks in eight July games. He is only 6-for-30, so the walks have helped keep him afloat during a bit of a down period. LF Everson Pereira: 1-for-4, RS, 2 K Pereira has hit safely in all five games since his promotion. He is 10-for-21, so this isn’t a situation where he is “simply” earning a hit a game. DH Ben Rortvedt: 0-for-4, 2 K 3B Andres Chaparro: 0-for-4, 3 K C Carlos Narvaez: 1-for-3, HR (7), 2 RBI, RS, BB, 2 K Narvaez is hitting .273/.418/.463 in 153 PA since his promotion. If the goal truly is to keep Austin Wells behind the plate, he will need to catch most of the time when he comes to this level. Assuming he ever does come to this level. 1B Jake Lamb: 1-for-4, 2B (1) Lamb’s first game as a member of the Yankees organization. 2B Jesus Bastidas: 1-for-3, HR (9), RBI, RS, BB .261/.325/.436 in 268 PA. Bastidas continues to flash some pop (last year, he hit 18 home runs and slugged .427 down in Somerset) RF Brandon Lockridge: 0-for-3, BB, K, SB (7) Lockridge is 24-for-27 stealing bases between here and Somerset.
RHP Will Warren: 3 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, HR Since promotion: 4.74 ERA (38 IP, 34 H, 26 R, 20 ER, 8 HR, 18 BB, 39 K). He was on a bit of a roll entering tonight, so hopefully this is just a blip. RHP Michael Gomez: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K LHP Matt Krook: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K RHP Aaron McGarity: (L, 4-2) 0.2 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 1 K LHP Anthony Misiewicz: 0.1 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 1 K Well, he might not last on the 40-man roster for long. RHP Zach Greene: 1.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K
Somerset (48-32; 6-6 in the second half) (Defeated Binghamton, 4-2, in a rain-shortened contest)
SS Trey Sweeney: 2-for-3, RBI, 2 RS, BB Nice to see Sweeney earn a few hits. He is now 6-for-26 in July, though that comes with eight walks. CF Jasson Dominguez: 2-for-3, RBI, BB, SB (25) He has the OPS up to .700, courtesy of three multi-hit games in his last four games played. He is 11-for-35 in July. C Austin Wells: 1-for-4, RBI, K 1B T.J. Rumfield: 1-for-3, 2B (8), RBI, BB, K 3B Tyler Hardman: 0-for-4, 4 K LF Elijah Dunham: 2-for-4, 2B (1), 2 K, 2 SB (3) Dunham has one objective: Get back to Scranton. 2B Max Burt: 0-for-3, RS, BB, K DH Josh Breaux: 1-for-4, 2 K RF Jeisson Rosario: 0-for-2, RS, 2 BB, K
RHP Chase Hampton: (W, 1-0) 5.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 7 K Hampton celebrates his inclusion on the Baseball America Top 100 with a solid performance. He didn’t seem to be on his game early, but he ended up with a strong line. Since promotion: 3.90 ERA (27.2 IP, 22 H, 13 R, 12 ER, 2 HR, 9 BB, 33 K) RHP Tanner Myatt: (S, 5) 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K
Hudson Valley (47-35; 8-8 in the second half) (Lost to Bowling Green, 7-4, in a 6-inning, rain shortened game)
CF Spencer Jones: 0-for-0, RS, 3 BB .263/.337/.470. Jones is starting to take some walks, as he has 19 in 30 June/July games. In April/May, he walked 11 times in 39 games. This is the point where you hope he starts putting the power/discipline together all at once. 2B Ben Cowles: 0-for-2, RS, BB, K C Agustin Ramirez: 2-for-3, 2 2B (7), 2 RBI Ramirez is 16-for-41 (.390) with seven doubles and two home runs since his promotion. That works. LF Christopher Familia: 0-for-3 Meanwhile, Familia has struggled since his promotion: 8-for-43 (.186) with a home run and 16 strikeouts. DH Rafael Flores: 0-for-2, RS, BB, 2 K SS Alexander Vargas: 0-for-3 1B Spencer Henson: 0-for-2, BB, K RF Grant Richardson: 2-for-3, HR (8), 2 RBI, RS Richardson is hitting .192/.289/.390 in 93 games at High-A going back to last year. He has flashed some pop (18 HR) and speed (13-for-14 SB), but the rest of the game has yet to click. 3B Marcos Cabrera: 0-for-3, 3 K
RHP Zach Messinger: (L, 1-7) 4.2 IP, 5 H, 7 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 4 K, HR 3.80 ERA (73.1 IP, 67 H, 42 R, 31 ER, 11 HR, 37 BB, 89 K). It has been a bit of a roller coaster, but I assume the Yankees feel good about what he has done this season. RHP Harrison Cohen: 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K 2.95 ERA (21.1 IP, 19 H, 8 R, 7 ER, 2 HR, 9 BB, 27 K). RHP Carlos Gomez: 0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
Tampa (40-42; 9-7 in the second half) (Lost a crazy game to Lakeland, 14-12)
SS Jared Serna: 3-for-5, 2 HR (16), 7 RBI, 2 RS Serna has a career night in a season filled with big nights. He is hitting .290/.349/.502 while leading the FSL in home runs (16) and RBI (58) while hitting leadoff all season. Is he due for a promotion soon? CF Greg Allen: 1-for-2 Allen starts his rehab assignment. CF Daury Arias: 0-for-1, BB C Ben Rice: 2-for-5, HR (2), 2 RBI, RS The question with Rice is what you do with him once the rehab is complete – Hudson Valley has Antonio Gomez and Agustin Ramirez. You could move him to Somerset (given his age and dominance of High-A earlier this season), but Austin Wells is there. Rice can squeeze out some playing time at first base, as well. LF Jesus Rodriguez: 2-for-4, BB, CS (2) Rodriguez was caught stealing 3B with two outs in the 9th, team down 14-12. That is what you call a teachable moment. DH Omar Martinez: 1-for-5, HR (7), RBI, RS Martinez has homered in back-to-back games. 2B Brenny Escanio: 0-for-3, 2 BB 3B Brett Barrera: 0-for-3, SF, RBI, RS, BB 1B Ronny Rojas: 1-for-3, 2 RS, BB RF Felix Negueis: 1-for-2, RBI, 3 RS, BB, HBP, K
RHP Leonardo Pestana: 2.1 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K 4.97 ERA (38 IP, 36 H, 22 R, 21 ER, 7 HR, 19 BB, 50 K). Pestana made three appearances between 2021-2022, after the entire minor league season was canceled in 2020. Hence, they are taking it very easy with him. RHP Kris Bow: (L, 2-3) 1.1 IP, 4 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 1 BB, 0 K Bow is a bit of a work in progress – just has to keep going out there and gain experience. RHP Shane Gray: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K RHP Manny Ramirez: 0 IP, 2 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 0 K, HR RHP Yorlin Calderon: 2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 5 K 2.87 ERA (47 IP, 39 H, 17 R, 15 ER, 4 HR, 12 BB, 61 K). I still wonder if the bullpen shift is permanent – the writing may be on the wall since that is the only role he has pitched in this year. RHP Alex Bustamante: 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 K
FCL Yankees (15-11) (Doubled up the Phillies, 8-4)

SS Roderick Arias: 0-for-2, 2 RS, 3 BB, K His 13-game hitting streak is over, but we’ll take the three walks. Arias is hitting .281/.430/.528 in 114 PA with 22 RBI, 28 R, and 11 stolen bases in 16 attempts. 3B Hans Montero: 2-for-4, 2B (5), 2 RBI, HBP, SB (12) .322/.504/.506 in 123 impressive plate appearances. RHP Luis Serna: 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K One of their intriguing lower-level pitching prospects puts together a strong effort. LHP Edwar Polimir (W, 3-0): 3.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 1 K RHP Sebastian Keane: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, K 1.62 ERA (16.2 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 1 HR, 8 BB, 24 K)

C Josue Gonzalez: 2-for-4, 2B (10), RBI, RS, 2 BB, SB (4) 20-for-44 (.455) with 22 walks and six strikeouts. Yankees MILB 7/15: Jasson Dominguez Homers
POSTED ON JULY 15, 2023 BY ADMIN News:
Nothing new to report.
Scranton (42-44; 8-4 in the second half) (Crushed Norfolk, 10-3)
CF Estevan Florial: 1-for-4, 2B (12), SF, 2 RBI, RS, 2 K Florial has at least one hit in seven of his eight July games (has reached base safely in all eight games). Overall, he is at .290/.387/.588 in 331 plate appearances with 21 HR, 52 RBI, and 58 runs scored. SS Oswald Peraza: 1-for-5, 2B (6), RS, 2 K You know my opinion: Peraza has nothing to prove here. That said, he is in a little 7-for-44 stretch (.159) and this is only his second extra-base hit during that stretch. To be fair, he has drawn ten walks during this time period. RF Everson Pereira: 1-for-5, 2B (2), 2 RBI, RS, 2 K Pereira has hit safely in all six games since his promotion (11-for-26; 2 doubles, 1 HR, 9 RBI) C Ben Rortvedt: 1-for-5, RBI, 3 K DH Andres Chaparro: 3-for-5, 2B (16), HR (17), 2 RBI, RS, 2 K Chaparro is hitting .244 with 16 doubles, 17 HR, 62 RBI, and 55 runs scored. He has 41 walks (11.4%) and 78 strikeouts (21.7%). 1B Jake Lamb: 1-for-4, 2B (2), RS, BB, K 3B Jamie Westbrook: 2-for-3, RBI, 2 RS, BB, catcher’s interference, K LF Michael Hermosillo: 1-for-4, 2B (1), RBI, 2 RS, HBP Hermosillo has 11 home runs this season – tonight’s double was his first extra-base hit that did not go over the fence. 2B Wilmer Difo: 1-for-3, RS, BB
RHP Clayton Beeter: 4.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K Since his promotion: 4.11 ERA (15.1 IP, 13 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 3 HR, 8 BB, 13 K). Overall, he has a 2.49 ERA in 76 innings (57 H, 21 R, 21 ER, 6 HR, 39 BB, 89 K) RHP Deivi Garcia: (W, 2-1) 1.2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K LHP D.J. Snelten: 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K RHP Matt Bowman: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K RHP Greg Weissert: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K
Somerset (48-33; 6-7 in the second half) (Lost to Binghamton, 3-1)
SS Trey Sweeney: 0-for-4 LF Jasson Dominguez: 2-for-3, HR (11), RBI, RS, BB .213/.354/.364 in 353 PA (8 doubles, 1 triple, 11 HR, 41 RBI, 56 R, 63 BB, 98 K). He is 13-for-42 (.310) in July with six multi-hit games. C Austin Wells: 1-for-4, K 1B T.J. Rumfield: 2-for-4, 2B (9) .215/.314/.446 in 274 PA. The BABIP gods were not kind to him in the first half (it now sits at .202) DH Tyler Hardman: 0-for-4, 4 K CF Elijah Dunham: 1-for-4 Dunham is 8-for-24 since his demotion. RF Aaron Palensky: 0-for-4, 3 K 3B Eric Wagaman: 0-for-3, K 2B Matt Pita: 0-for-2, HBP
RHP Yoendrys Gomez: 2.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K Gomez tossed 57 pitches tonight. His ERA sits at 1.21 (22.1 IP, 12 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 1 HR, 14 BB, 23 K) LHP Ryan Anderson: 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K Since promotion: 7.1 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 9 K. He was used tonight as a bridge to Barclay, who I assume they wanted to start with a clean inning. LHP Edgar Barclay (L, 2-1): 5 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 6 K They stretched him out to 60 pitches tonight. He now has a 1.05 ERA in 25.2 IP (19 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 0 HR, 9 BB, 38 K)
Hudson Valley (48-35; 9-8 in the second half) (Squeaked past Bowling Green, 5-4)
CF Spencer Jones: 2-for-5, RBI, RS, K .266/.338/.469 in 320 PA (20 doubles, 4 triples, 10 HR, 41 RBI, 42 R, 30 BB, 99 K, 21-for-28 SB). He is 8-for-24 in July with six walks. 2B Ben Cowles: 2-for-4, RBI, BB, K .254/.342/.392 in 269 PA. Cowles is 11-for-33 in July. DH Agustin Ramirez: 3-for-5, 2B (8), K Ramirez is 19-for-46 (.413) since his promotion. He has eight doubles in 11 games here after hitting seven doubles in 51 games for Tampa. This is his 5th 3-hit game this season, all since June 9th. LF Christopher Familia: 1-for-4, RS, K 1B Spencer Henson: 2-for-4, K SS Alexander Vargas: 1-for-4, RBI, RS C Antonio Gomez: 1-for-3, RS, BB .248/.315/.355 in 241 PA. Beyond an awful May (all months count, so we can’t just dismiss it), he has hit fairly well. RF Aldenis Sanchez: 1-for-4, RBI, RS, K, SB (14) RF Grant Richardson: 0-for-0 3B Eduardo Torrealba: 0-for-4, 2 K
RHP Drew Thorpe: (W, 9-1) 7 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 10 K, 2 HR 2.27 ERA (91.1 IP, 67 H, 27 R, 23 ER, 6 HR, 30 BB, 111 K). He entered this game on one of the craziest runs you will ever find (1 run in the last 40.2 IP). So, now he has allowed four runs in his last 47.2 IP. By the way, Bowling Green entered tonight with the highest OPS in the league – so this was a nice little challenge for him. RHP Bailey Dees: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K 1.93 ERA (37.1 IP, 19 H, 9 R, 8 ER, 2 HR, 14 BB, 57 K). None of them have anything else to prove here so time to make some space.
Tampa (40-43; 9-8 in the second half) (Lost to Lakeland, 4-3, in ten innings)
SS Jared Serna: 2-for-5, HR (17), 3 RBI, RS Serna is now 15-for-49 (.306) in July (3 doubles, 4 HR, 15 RBI, 11 R). In an oddball stat: Serna has not attempted a stolen base since June 22nd. He is 16-for-21 in that department. 3B Jesus Rodriguez: 1-for-5, 2 K Rodriguez is hitting .289 in 270 PA (11 doubles, 2 triples, 6 HR, 29 RBI, 38 R, 29 BB, 41 K, 11-for-13 SB). The ghost runner or whatever you wish to call him got him in the 10th.
FCL Yankees (16-11) (Destroyed the Phillies, 12-3)
DH Keiner Delgado: 2-for-3, HR (5), 5 RBI, 3 RS, BB, HBP, 2 SB (18) Last two games: 3-for-7, 2 HR, 8 RBI, 4 RS, BB, 3 SB. This raises his triple slash from .267/.374/.448 to .277/.391/.500. DH Josue Gonzalez: 1-for-2, K Gonzalez (hitting .457 in 15 games) left the game early for reasons unknown. DH Anthony Pena: 1-for-2, HR (2), RBI, RS It is the DSL, so it is just as likely that they wanted to give a few at-bats to Pena today.
