Yankees MILB 8/8: Jasson Dominguez: 3 More Hits
POSTED ON AUGUST 8, 2023 BY ADMIN News:
The Yankees have released three prospects. Outfielders Anthony Garcia and Aldenis Sanchez are no longer members of the Hudson Valley Renegades, while RHP Blas Castano is gone from the Somerset Patriots. Additionally, the Yankees have designated RHP Deivi Garcia for assignment. Because we are beyond the trade deadline, Garcia is not eligible to be traded. If he clears waivers, he can be outrighted to the minors or released.
Anthony Garcia showed off his three outcome chops in 2022, as he hit .195/.372/.369 (121 wRC+) over 384 PA with 15 home runs. This season, in his first taste of High-A, his walk rate dropped from 21.6% to 15.1%. His wRC+ dropped to 85.
Sanchez, acquired for Mike Ford, is a speedy outfielder who hasn’t been able to develop the hit tool. He is hitting only .225/.300/.352 (79 wRC+) with 14 stolen bases.
Castano was ranked as the Yankees’ #26 prospect by Fangraphs prior to 2023. For Somerset this season, he pitched to a 4.76 ERA (4.66 FIP) over 45.1 innings with a 12.5% BB and 21% K. The walk rate is the big thing in this profile, as he was known for his ability to throw strikes in the lower minors.
The Yankees tried to convert Deivi Garcia to a full-time reliever in 2023, and it hasn’t gone well. Once regarded as one of the top pitching prospects in the system, he fell off a few years ago with plenty of rumors as to why.
There are so many promotions today that I could write an entire entry on them alone. I won’t dig into that deeply up here – you will see blurbs below as they make their debuts at new levels.
Scranton (50-56; 16-16 in the second half) (Lost to Syracuse, 3-0. They were no-hit through 8 innings before Brandon Lockridge broke it up)
SS Oswald Peraza: 0-for-4, K DH Austin Wells: 0-for-4 CF Everson Pereira: 0-for-3, K .330/.375/.553 in 112 PA at this level. He has 30 strikeouts (26.8%). To me, it comes down to this: Are you willing to accept the warts in his game in exchange for him getting some MLB playing time? Eventually, MLB pitchers will find the areas to exploit. That happens to the best of the best, after all. Player development is a balancing act. My opinion is clear: Get him some playing time in 2023, whether that is a week from now or a few weeks from now. 1B Andres Chaparro: 0-for-3, 2 K RF Franchy Cordero: 0-for-3, K C Carlos Narvaez: 0-for-3, K 3B Jamie Westbrook: 0-for-2, BB, K LF Brandon Lockridge: 1-for-2, BB, SB (13) At this level: .295/.363/.384 in 124 PA. Overall: .303/.378/.442 in 238 PA with 30 stolen bases. He has elite speed and can cover all three outfield positions. If he can show any kind of stick in MLB, he will earn himself some playing time. I don’t know if that will happen here, as he is Rule 5 eligible (again) and having success in the upper minors. He is the type who can be selected and stick. 2B Wilmer Difo: 0-for-3, K, CS (5)
LHP Edgar Barclay: (L, 0-1) 5 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, HR He improved from his first start at this level last time out. RHP Zac Houston: 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 2 K RHP Spencer Howard: 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K RHP Matt Bowman: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K
Somerset (60-41; 18-15 in the second half) (Lost to Binghamton, 9-7)
CF Jasson Dominguez: 3-for-5, 2B (13), 2 RBI, 2 RS Dominguez has hit safely in all seven August games (13-for-30), including a pair of 3-hit efforts. He has his triple slash up to .243/.364/.392 in 451 PA (13 doubles, 2 triples, 13 HR, 58 RBI, 71 R, 72 BB, 118 K, 33-for-40 SB). After the games of July 6, Dominguez was hitting .198/.341/.343. C Ben Rice: 3-for-5, 2B (2), 2 RBI, 2 RS, SB (3) Since promotion: .295/.377/.607 in 61 plate appearances. His injury earlier this season was unfortunate, but he hasn’t stopped hitting all season when healthy. DH Agustin Ramirez: 0-for-5, 2 K Ramirez, a 21-year-old catcher, reaches his third level in 2023. After hitting .245/.387/.397 (117 wRC+) in 232 plate appearances for Tampa, he turned it up several notches for High-A Hudson Valley, hitting .384/.430/.714 (203 wRC+) in 121 plate appearances. Given that he is in Somerset now, it is a near certainty that he will be protected in this winter’s Rule 5. RF Elijah Dunham: 2-for-4, 2 2B (9), 3 RBI, BB At this level: .277/.364/.532 in 110 plate appearances. Here is hoping he can find his way back to Scranton, where he struggled earlier this season. 1B Mickey Gasper: 2-for-5, K, SB (5) SS Jesus Bastidas: 1-for-3, RS, BB, K 2B Max Burt: 0-for-4, 4 K LF Jeisson Rosario: 0-for-4, K 3B Eduardo Torrealba: 2-for-4, 2B (2), 2 RS
RHP Chase Hampton: 4 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, 4 K Since promotion: 4.99 ERA (48.2 IP, 44 H, 30 R, 27 ER, 7 HR, 20 BB, 56 K). He isn’t the first prospect to run into a little wall in Double-A and won’t be the last. Now, it is all about the adjustments. I will continue to note that this is Hampton’s debut season. RHP Jack Neely: 2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, HR Promoted today from Hudson Valley, the tall (6’8″) right-hander pitched to a 2.03 ERA in High-A with a 39.2% K and 9.0% BB. Along with Ryan Anderson (6’6″ LHP), Bailey Dees (6’8″), and Danny Watson (6’7″), they form a rather tall (and I would guess intimidating) Double-A bullpen. LHP Ryan Anderson: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 K Since promotion: 14.1 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 5 BB, 17 K. RHP Danny Watson: 1.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, HR Since promotion: 1.38 ERA (26 IP, 12 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 HR, 10 BB, 29 K)
Hudson Valley (57-44; 18-16 in the second half) (Lost to Jersey Shore, 5-3)
CF Spencer Jones: 3-for-4, 2B (25), RBI, SB (27) Jones is hitting .265 with a .792 OPS. He has 11 3+ hit games this season. 2B Jared Serna: 1-for-4, RS, K Serna’s High-A debut after hitting .283/.350/.483 (124 wRC+) in 443 plate appearances down in Tampa (19 HR, 71 RBI, 72 R, 19 SB). He is on the smaller side (5’6″) but is a legitimate prospect. LF Christopher Familia: 1-for-3, RS, BB Familia has hit safely in all five of his August games. He is having a crazy offensive season and has done more than enough to earn a shot at the upper levels, whether that is later in 2023 or 2024. Not every prospect reaches that point. 1B Rafael Flores: 1-for-4, RBI, K 3B Ben Cowles: 1-for-3, SF, RBI, K Cowles extends his hitting streak to six and has hit safely in 14 of his last 15 games. C Jesus Rodriguez: 1-for-3, BB, K Rodriguez’s High-A debut after hitting .297/.378/.426 (122 wRC+; 10.9% BB, 14.9% K) in 348 plate appearances down in Tampa. He was used at C/1B/3B/LF at that level. SS Alexander Vargas: 0-for-4, K RF Anthony Hall: 0-for-4, K Hall’s High-A debut after hitting .269/.382/.449 (128 wRC+) in 272 plate appearances down in Tampa. He was the Yankees’ 4th round pick in the 2022 draft and likely gets here earlier if not for injury. DH Antonio Gomez: 0-for-3, RS, BB, K
RHP Brendan Beck: 4 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 5 K At this level: 1.17 ERA (23 IP, 18 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 HR, 5 BB, 25 K) RHP Shane Gray: 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K RHP Cole Ayers: (L, 0-1) 2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 1 K High-A debut. Ayers pitched to a 4.08 ERA in 46.1 IP for Tampa with a 64/17 K/BB RHP Carlos Gomez: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
Tampa (49-53; 18-18 in the second half) (Lost to Clearwater, 10-4)
2B Roc Riggio: 1-for-3, RBI, RS, 2 BB, K This year’s 4th round pick was promoted here after five games in the FCL. All indicators point to Riggio being a fast-rise prospect. 3B Kiko Romero: 0-for-5, 2 K C Omar Martinez: 0-for-3, RS, 2 BB, K Martinez didn’t get promoted today, which is a little surprising but there are a lot of catchers up and down the system right now. He just turned 22 in July. Does the fact he wasn’t promoted mean the organization is down on him? Not necessarily. If they feel a kid needs more time at a level, that’s perfectly fine. There is still some time left for him to get to High-A as well – today was a big promotion day but not necessarily a final promotion day. 1B Josh Moylan: 1-for-3, RBI, RS, BB 4-for-13 with a home run and three runs batted in. He has four walks and four strikeouts. RF Garrett Martin: 1-for-4, 2B (1), 2 RBI, K The 23-year-old earns his first professional RBI. Congrats! SS Brenny Escanio: 1-for-4, 2 K LF Coby Morales: 1-for-3, RS, BB, K 5-for-20 with a pair of doubles and a home run. CF Tayler Aguilar: 1-for-4, 2B (12) DH Daury Arias: 0-for-4, K
RHP Justin Lange: (L, 1-4) 3.2 IP, 5 H, 7 R, 2 R, 4 BB, 5 K, HR 4.58 ERA (72.2 IP, 50 H, 48 R, 37 ER, 8 HR, 55 BB, 115 K). He was coming off of a few strong outings lately. There is definitely some Dellin Betances/Luis Medina here. You just hope something clicks to keep him in the rotation or that he can become a dominant reliever down the line. RHP Alex Bustamante: 2.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K RHP Matt Keating: 2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K RHP Osiel Rodriguez: 1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K Since promotion: 7 IP, 6 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 1 HR, 7 BB, 11 K. Whether he struggles or not, this is where he belongs. Too good for the FCL.
FCL Yankees (25-19) (Lost to the FCL Phillies, 6-4)
DH Keiner Delgado: 2-for-5, RBI, K, SB (25) .282/.384/.460 in 190 PA with a league-leading 25 stolen bases. 2B Enmanuel Tejeda: 0-for-3, 2 BB, K, CS (6) RF Willy Montero: 0-for-4, HBP SS Hans Montero: 0-for-5, 3 K Montero is off to a slow 2-for-14 start to August. LF John Cruz: 2-for-3, RS, BB, SB (7) 3B Dylan Jasso: 2-for-3, 2B (3), 2 RS, BB Jasso is 6-for-14 with eight walks to start his professional career. C Edinson Duran: 1-for-2, 2 RBI, RS, 2 BB
RHP Luis Serna: 4 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 5 K, HR 4.32 ERA (16.2 IP, 15 H, 8 R, 8 ER, 2 HR, 6 BB, 20 K). He allowed 6 ER in his first 2.1 innings this season and two in his last 14.1 IP.
DSL Yankees (27-14) (The game against the DSL Royals B was suspended. It is 1-1 in the 7th inning)
CF Brando Mayea: 0-for-3, K
RHP Christian Zazueta: 4.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 8 K, HR Zazueta sets a new personal best for strikeouts in a game. RHP Orvis Fernandez: 2.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
DSL Bombers (20-23) (Lost to Rangers Red, 6-0, in a 7-inning game)
2B Gabriel Terrero: 0-for-3, 2 K LF-CF Gabriel Lara: 0-for-3, K
RHP Sunayro Martina: 3.1 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K

Scranton (51-56; 17-16 in the second half) (Knocked off Syracuse, 9-5)
SS Oswald Peraza: 0-for-1, 3 RS, 4 BB We all know that Peraza had a 4 BB game for the MLB squad this year – this is his first such game in his minor league career. C Austin Wells: 3-for-5, 2B (6), 2 RBI, 2 RS Wells has six doubles in 16 games since his promotion (20 doubles in 74 games between here and Somerset). He is up to .273 with a .753 OPS in 16 games since his promotion. RF Everson Pereira: 2-for-4, HR (6), 5 RBI, 2 RS, BB Pereira has 30 RBI and 22 runs scored in 26 games since his promotion. Between Scranton and Somerset, he is hitting .309/.371/.559 with 16 homers and 61 RBI in 72 games. Furthermore, Pereira has seven multi-hit games in his last 11 games played. 3B Andres Chaparro: 0-for-4, BB, 2 K DH Franchy Cordero: 1-for-4, RBI, 2 K 2B Jamie Westbrook: 1-for-4, 2B (13) LF Michael Hermosillo: 0-for-4, 2 K 1B Jake Lamb: 0-for-3, RS, BB, 2 K CF Brandon Lockridge: 1-for-4, RS, 2 K
RHP Will Warren: 5 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, HR Since promotion: 5.24 ERA (55 IP, 55 H, 41 R, 32 ER, 11 HR, 29 BB, 57 K) RHP Aaron McGarity: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K RHP Zach McAllister: (W, 1-0) 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K RHP Greg Weissert: (S, 8) 1.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, HR
Somerset (60-42; 18-16 in the second half) (Lost to Binghamton, 4-2)
CF Jasson Dominguez: 2-for-4, 2B (14), 2 SB (35) Dominguez increases his hitting streak to eight, including four straight multi-hit games. During this stretch, he is 15-for-34 (.441/.500/.647; 4 doubles, 1 HR, 6 RBI, 6 R, 4 BB, 6 K, 6-for-7 SB). Overall, his line is up to .245/.365/.396 in 455 PA (14 doubles, 2 triples, 13 HR, 58 RBI, 71 R, 72 BB (15.8%), 118 K (25.9%), 35-for-42 SB (83.3%)). He is certainly earning that spot atop the Yankees’ prospect list. 1B Ben Rice: 0-for-3, BB, 2 K, SB (4) Rice didn’t show much interest in stealing bases in 2021-2022, swiping five in 90 games. He has eight in 41 games this year, including four in his last five games. C Agustin Ramirez: 1-for-4, K Ramirez’s first Double-A hit. A common question I receive is about his defense. If he continues to hit like he is doing in 2023, you won’t care much about his defense. That said, I haven’t read anything that indicates that he will need to move off of the catching position. LF Elijah Dunham: 0-for-4 2B Anthony Seigler: 2-for-4, HR (2), RBI, RS, K Seigler’s first career start at 2B. Recently, Mickey Gasper and Aaron Palensky made their first career starts at second base. DH Josh Breaux: 1-for-3, HR (5), RBI, RS, BB, K Crazy that Seigler and Breaux, once considered the future behind the plate, homer on the same day with neither playing the catcher position. Anyway, Breaux hit 13 HR in 59 games for Somerset last year – should surprise nobody that he has five in 16 games this year. SS Jesus Bastidas: 1-for-3, BB, K, CS (1) 3B Max Burt: 0-for-3, HBP, K, CS (5) RF Aaron Palensky: 0-for-3, K
RHP Yoendrys Gomez (L, 0-2): 4.1 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 2 HR Gomez was done in by a pair of 2-run homers. He reached 64 pitches today. RHP Bailey Dees: 2.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K Just like with Danny Watson, don’t be surprised if Dees’ strikeout rate falls in his first taste of Double-A. Eventually, Watson started to bring his up. RHP Alex Mauricio: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K 3.46 ERA (39 IP, 36 H, 16 R, 15 ER, 4 HR, 12 BB, 38 K)
Hudson Valley (57-45; 18-17 in the second half) (Lost to Jersey Shore, 9-2)
CF Spencer Jones: 0-for-4, CI, 2 K SS Jared Serna: 1-for-4, K DH Christopher Familia: 0-for-3, BB C Rafael Flores: 0-for-4, 2 K 2B Ben Cowles: 1-for-3, 2B (15), RS, BB, K, SB (16) Cowles increases his hitting streak to seven. He is hitting .257/.348/.403 in 351 PA. 3B Jesus Rodriguez: 3-for-4, 2B (1), RBI, 2 RS 4-for-7 in his first two games at this level. He had 28 multi-hit games for Tampa (84 games) and is one of the most consistent hitters in the system this season (.303/.383/.432) RF Anthony Hall: 0-for-2, CI, BB, K 1B Spencer Henson: 1-for-4, 2B (16), RBI, K LF Jared Wegner: 2-for-4, 2B (1), RBI, K Wegner doubled in his first High-A AB. Though he was drafted this year, he is already 24 years old so they are smart to aggressively move him to High-A.
RHP Baron Stuart: (L, 1-1) 6 IP, 7 H, 8 R, 8 ER, 3 BB, 3 K, 2 HR Stuart threw 89 pitches. There is always that fine line with prospects – you want them to get their full work in but you don’t want them to feel overwhelmed. To Stuart’s credit, he tossed a scoreless 6th after giving up five runs in the 5th. RHP Mason Vinyard: 1.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, HR Since promotion: 3.60 ERA (20 IP, 17 H, 9 R, 8 ER, 2 HR, 15 BB, 20 K) RHP Harrison Cohen: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K Since promotion: 1.99 ERA (31.2 IP, 22 H, 8 R, 7 ER, 2 HR, 13 BB, 38 K)
Tampa (49-54; 18-19 in the second half) (Lost to Clearwater, 10-8)
3B Kiko Romero: 2-for-6, 2B (1), RBI, RS, K Romero is 6-for-26 at this level with a pair of multi-hit efforts. LF Coby Morales: 0-for-4, RS, 2 BB, 2 K C Omar Martinez: 0-for-4, RS, 2 BB, 3 K 1B Josh Moylan: 1-for-3, 2 RS, 2 BB, K Moylan is 5-for-16 (HR, 3 RBI, 6 R, 6 BB). He should play well at this level. SS Brenny Escanio: 2-for-5, 2 RBI, RS, 2 K RF Garrett Martin: 1-for-2, 2B (2), RBI, RS, HBP, 2 BB, K 4-for-19 with a pair of doubles. CF Tayler Aguilar: 0-for-2, SF, RBI, HBP, BB DH Cole Gabrielson: 0-for-4, RBI, RS, BB 2B Beau Brewer: 3-for-5, RBI Brewer has three straight multi-hit games (five in his last seven games)
RHP Cam Schlittler: 4.1 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K He allowed three runs in three innings in his first appearance at this level, so nice improvement. RHP Ocean Gabonia: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 1 K RHP Anderson Munoz: 0.2 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, HR The 25-year-old is on a rehab stint (he missed all of 2022). Tonight, he was hitting as high as 95.9 on the gun. RHP Huey Morrill: (L, 0-1) 1.1 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, HR RHP Montana Semmell: 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, HR
FCL Yankees (25-19)
Day off.
DSL Yankees (27-14)
Day off.
DSL Bombers (20-23-1) (They completed a suspended game from July 13th…it ended in a 5-5 tie)
2B Gabriel Terrero: 2-for-4, RBI, K CF Gabriel Lara: 1-for-1, RS, 2 BB, SB (9), CS (4) The totals retrofit back to the date the game started. Lara actually has 15 stolen bases in 21 attempts and is hitting .256/.395/.408 in 157 PA
RHP Joshawn Lampson: 5.1 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 7 K

Yankees MILB 8/10: Ben Rice: 4 Hits, HR, 3 RBI
POSTED ON AUGUST 10, 2023 BY ADMIN News:
There will be no report on Friday, August 11th. Please hold back your tears.
That was fast: RHP Deivi Garcia was claimed off waivers by the Chicago White Sox. The White Sox were among the first teams to get a crack at him. That ends his frustrating Yankees tenure, a tenure that included a start (for one inning) in an important playoff game and a complete collapse in 2022 that makes no sense to this day.
In the regular season, Garcia posted a 4.84 ERA (90 ERA+) over 48.1 IP with a 43/14 K/BB ratio. Good luck, and don’t fall asleep in the bullpen.
Baseball America updated its Top 100 Prospects list today, with seven Yankees prospects making the list. All of them are in the lower 50, but that makes sense as the system is more about its strong depth than having that one stud player who is about to invade MLB. That doesn’t mean we have a bunch of quality players and no future superstars. You never know when someone will surge and become a consistent MLB All-Star. The important thing, for now, is seeing the recognition.
Late update: MLB Pipeline wasn’t as favorable to Yankees prospects, listing only three prospects – all of whom are in the 79-81 range (Spencer Jones, Jasson Dominguez, Everson Pereira)
Scranton (51-57; 17-17 in the second half) (Lost to Syracuse, 10-1)
SS Oswald Peraza: 0-for-4 C Austin Wells: 1-for-3, 2B (7), K Wells has seven doubles in 17 games since his promotion. C Rodolfo Duran: 1-for-1, 2B (13) I am not sure why Wells left the game – it was 9-0, so that hopefully explains it. LF Everson Pereira: 0-for-4, 2 K .324/.372/.559 in 111 PA since his promotion. I get it: Triple-A is souped up. What is Pereira supposed to do about that, exactly? All he can do is hit under the conditions before him. And he is doing that. 3B Andres Chaparro: 1-for-4, K RF Franchy Cordero: 1-for-4 DH Carlos Narvaez: 0-for-3, BB, 2 K 2B Jamie Westbrook: 2-for-4, HR (16), RBI, RS, K 1B Jake Lamb: 1-for-4, 2B (3) CF Brandon Lockridge: 0-for-3, 2 K
RHP Clayton Beeter: (L, 1-3) 2.2 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 5 K, 2 HR Since promotion: 6.25 ERA (31.2 IP, 32 H, 23 R, 22 ER, 9 HR, 16 BB, 37 K). There is no sugarcoating how rough of a line that is – Triple-A is souped up big time and we are seeing some pitchers having trouble adjusting (Will Warren also fits in that category) RHP Michael Gomez: 2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 K RHP Zach Greene: 1 IP, 2 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 2 K, HR RHP Zac Houston: 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K RHP Ron Marinaccio: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K LHP Anthony Misiewicz: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K RHP Wilmer Difo: 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 0 K The utility guy gets on the hill.
Somerset (61-42; 19-16 in the second half) (Destroyed Binghamton, 14-0)
LF Jasson Dominguez: 2-for-5, 2 RS, SB (36) Dominguez has a 9-game hitting streak (17-for-39, 8 stolen bases) and has multiple hits in five straight games. He was on the verge of reaching.250 tonight but settles in at .247/.365/.396. C Ben Rice: 4-for-5, 2B (3), HR (6), 3 RBI, 4 RS Rice, who has a pair of 4-hit games this season (both of which were a triple away from the cycle), has a 1.049 OPS in 78 PA since his promotion (3 doubles, 1 triple, 6 HR, 21 RBI, 15 R, 8 BB, 12 K, 4-for-5 SB). Overall, he has 41 RBI and 37 runs scored in 42 games. At 24, I can see the Yankees giving him a late-season taste of Triple-A. He is likely a hit-first type of prospect, and the bar goes up if he is more of a first baseman than a catcher. We’ll see. 1B Agustin Ramirez: 2-for-5, RBI, 2 RS, K His first multi-hit game since his promotion. I can’t emphasize enough how big of a season this kid is having. Anyway, tonight was his first career start at first base. It doesn’t hurt to get him experience there. CF Elijah Dunham: 3-for-5, HR (6), 3 RBI, 2 RS, SB (14), CS (3) Personally, I would get Dunham back up to Scranton. If the idea to send him back down to Somerset was to allow him to regain some confidence, it has worked. He has 6 home runs and 14 stolen bases in 27 games. Overall, he has 12 home runs and 26 stolen bases in 32 attempts. DH Anthony Seigler: 1-for-3, 2 SF, 2 RBI, K The master of productive outs. SS Jesus Bastidas: 1-for-5, RBI, K RF Jeisson Rosario: 1-for-4, SF, RBI, RS, K 2B Max Burt: 1-for-4, 2B (10), RBI, RS, K 3B Eduardo Torrealba: 2-for-4, RBI, 2 RS
RHP Richard Fitts: (W, 9-5) 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 7 K 3.38 ERA (119.2 IP, 101 H, 46 R, 45 ER, 17 HR, 30 BB, 130 K). Tremendous season and I hope he gets to Scranton before too long. RHP Tanner Myatt: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K LHP Josh Maciejewski: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K RHP Jesus Liranzo: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
Hudson Valley (57-46; 18-18 in the second half) (Lost to Jersey Shore, 2-1)
CF Spencer Jones: 1-for-3, RS, BB I am going to be fascinated to see what he does when he gets to the Double-A level. His season has been a tad uneven – but the end results are still encouraging. He is a big kid and goes through the stuff big kids go through. Patience will be key. 2B Jared Serna: 1-for-4, RBI Serna’s first RBI since his promotion and 72nd overall. 3B Ben Cowles: 2-for-3, 2B (16), BB .261/.352/.409 in 355 PA, He has hit safely in every August game (8; 11-for-28, 3 doubles) 1B Rafael Flores: 0-for-4, 3 K SS Alexander Vargas: 0-for-4, 2 K DH Anthony Hall: 0-for-4, 2 K C Antonio Gomez: 1-for-4, K LF Grant Richardson: 0-for-2, BB, 2 K RF Jared Wegner: 0-for-2, BB, K
RHP Tyrone Yulie: 3.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 1 K Yulie’s stay on the IL wasn’t too long. He owns a 4.86 ERA in 82.2 IP with a 91/45 K/BB ratio. RHP Luis Velasquez: 3.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K Since promotion: 2.59 ERA (24.1 IP, 15 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 1 HR, 15 BB, 29 K). You may think that all organizations are filled with big-arm relief prospects. That isn’t really true – the Yankees are above average in this category. You don’t need too many of them to pan out. LHP Clay Aguilar: (L, 3-2): 2.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K
Tampa (49-56; 18-21 in the second half) (Lost a doubleheader to Clearwater)
Game 1 (Lost, 12-4)
2B Roc Riggio: 1-for-4, 2B (1), K Riggio’s first career extra-base hit. 3B Kiko Romero: 0-for-2, BB DH Josh Moylan: 0-for-3, 3 K LF Daury Arias: 0-for-3, 2 K SS Brenny Escanio: 1-for-3, HR (3), RBI, RS .216/.335/.285 in 404 PA. RF Cole Gabrielson: 1-for-3, RS, K Gabrielson’s first Low-A hit. CF Tayler Aguilar: 2-for-3, 2 HR (7), 3 RBI, 2 RS Aguilar has two career 2-HR games – on 8/10/22 and 8/10/23. C Manuel Palencia: 0-for-3 1B Beau Brewer: 1-for-3, K
RHP Hayden Merda: (L, 2-6) 3.2 IP, 7 H, 9 R, 9 ER, 4 BB, 0 K, 2 HR LHP Edwar Polimir: 1.1 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 3 K The Low-A debut for the 22-year-old. He pitched to a 4.43 ERA in 20.1 FCL innings with a 26/10 K/BB ratio. RHP Nolberto Henriquez: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K The Low-A debut for the 23-year-old. These promotions are likely doubleheader related.
Game 2 (Lost, 3-1)
DH Roc Riggio: 0-for-2, BB, K LF Coby Morales: 0-for-3, 2 K C Omar Martinez: 1-for-3, 2B (12), 2 K .263/.376/.478 in 343 PA. 1B Josh Moylan: 0-for-2, BB, K SS Brenny Escanio: 1-for-3, K RF Garrett Martin: 1-for-3, 2B (3), RS 5-for-22 with three doubles and three runs batted in CF Daury Arias: 0-for-2, BB, K 3B Beau Brewer: 0-for-3 2B Jose Colmenares: 0-for-2, K
RHP Kris Bow: (L, 2-5) 1.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 5 BB, 3 K RHP Yorlin Calderon: 3.1 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 5 K, HR 3.45 ERA (62.2 IP, 57 H, 27 R, 24 ER, 5 HR, 18 BB, 77 K) RHP Alex Bustamante: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K 3.35 ERA (48.1 IP, 34 H, 22 R, 18 ER, 1 HR, 31 BB, 53 K) RHP Matt Keating: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K 3.53 ERA (51 IP, 48 H, 26 R, 20 ER, 4 HR, 27 BB, 72 K)
FCL Yankees (26-19) (Doubled up the Phillies, 6-3)
SS Keiner Delgado: 0-for-3, 2 RS, 2 BB, K .277/.385/.452 in 195 PA. Delgado has more career walks (84) than strikeouts (54) and has stolen 60 bases in 73 tries (82.2%). 2B Enmanuel Tejeda: 2-for-4, 2B (4), RS, SB (21) .311/.475/.452 (21-for-27 SB) in 179 PA after hitting .289/.463/.493 (11-for-17 SB) in 188 PA down in the DSL in 2022. This is exactly what you want to see. RF Willy Montero: 3-for-4, 3B (2), 3 RBI, SB (5) .325/.373/.435 in 169 PA. Montero hit .262/.396/.382 in 235 PA down in the DSL in 2022. 3B Hans Montero: 1-for-4, 2 K DH John Cruz: 0-for-4, K 1B Dylan Jasso: 2-for-4, 2B (4), RS 8-for-18 with four doubles and three runs batted in. CF Wilson Rodriguez: 2-for-3, 2 HR (2), 3 RBI, 2 RS, BB Since top pick George Lombard Jr. has yet to make an appearance, Rodriguez is taking over as the high school draftee to drool over (8-for-20, 2 doubles, 2 HR, 9 RBI, 4 BB)
RHP Jackson Fristoe: 4 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K 4.88 ERA (24 IP, 17 H, 13 R, 13 ER, 3 HR, 22 BB, 26 K). Last year’s 12th-round pick hasn’t allowed a run in his last three appearances (9 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 6 BB, 9 K). Five of those six walks occurred in one of the starts. LHP Allen Facundo (W, 5-0): 3.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 4 K If you want to win a lot of games, find a job as a middle-inning reliever in the rookie leagues. The starters don’t typically get to five innings, which opens the door! Facundo has a 1.91 ERA in 28.1 IP with a 37/12 K/BB
DSL Yankees (27-15) (Lost to Phillies White, 6-0)
CF Brando Mayea: 0-for-4 RF Jose Castro: 1-for-4, K, SB (15) 19 RBI, 19 R, 15-for-16 SB in 27 games in his debut season. C Josue Gonzalez: 2-for-3, 2B (12), BB It just feels as if hitting is contagious amongst many of the organization’s catchers in 2023. Gonzalez (who is 19 and repeating the level, which is important to note) is hitting .367/.556/.620 in 117 PA
RHP Jerson Alejandro: 4.1 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 5 K 4.32 ERA in 33.1 IP (28 H, 17 R, 16 ER, 3 HR, 15 BB, 31 K). He is 17 so the goal is to get his feet wet and hope he can stay healthy. LHP Pedro Rodriguez: 2.1 IP, 0 H, 4 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K The pure definition of a DSL pitching line.
DSL Bombers (21-23-1) (Defeated Mets Blue, 7-6)
CF Gabriel Lara: 3-for-5, 2B (6), RS Lara’s fourth 3-hit game this season. The most impressive thing for me is the hit tool he is showing, as he is at .269/.401/.423 in 162 PA (6 doubles, 1 triple, 4 HR, 26 RBI, 28 R, 15-for-21 SB). The immense speed is there. The defense will benefit from the immense speed. If there is a bat to tap into, he can be a top prospect in the system within a few years. We will not get ahead of ourselves, though. LF Abrahan Ramirez: 1-for-4, 2 RBI, 2 RS, BB, K Ramirez has 27 walks and 16 strikeouts in 116 PA. 2B Geyber Blanco: 2-for-4, SF, RBI, RS .344/.418/.479 in 110 PA for the 17-year-old. 3B Adrian Gonzalez: 2-for-5, 2B (3), 2 RBI
RHP Mariano Salomon: 4 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 8 K, HR The 21-year-old has three 8-strikeout games this season (58 in 42 IP to go along with his 3.43 ERA) RHP Jose Julian Rodriguez: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K Only the second career appearance for the 19-year-old.

Drew Thorpe impressed. RHP Drew Thorpe (8 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 9 K, 0 BB) earned the win in his Double-A debut, hurling eight shutout innings with 9 K. After allowing a leadoff hit in the 1st on the second hit of the game, Thorpe went on to retire 20 straight Rumble Ponies, including 9 K. Friday marked the third time this season that Thorpe has gone 8+ scoreless IP, making him the only pitcher in MiLB to accomplish the feat. The Yankees No. 5 prospect finished the day with 147 strikeouts on the season, tops in all of MiLB. x.com/sompatriots/status/1690167293215494144?s=61&t=rXS-9coORjfqVt9_-EkbeAwww.milb.com/fans/affiliates/yankees

Tampa (51-56; 20-21 in the second half) (Destroyed Clearwater, 9-3)
1B Kiko Romero: 1-for-5, HR (1), RBI, RS, 2 K The first professional HR for this year’s 7th-round pick. LF Coby Morales: 1-for-4, 2B (3), RS, BB, 2 K C Omar Martinez: 1-for-4, RS, BB, K DH Josh Moylan: 2-for-5, 2 RBI, K .269/.424/.385 in a measly 33 PA sample. CF Cole Gabrielson: 1-for-5 RF Tayler Aguilar: 0-for-2, 2 RS, BB, 2 HBP, K, SB (7) SS Brenny Escanio: 1-for-2, 2 RS, 2 BB, SB (16) Taking walks (63; 15.3%) and stealing bases (16-for-22) is pretty much his thing. 3B Beau Brewer: 0-for-2, RS, 2 BB 2B Jose Colmenares: 1-for-3, HR (4; grand slam), 5 RBI, RS, BB, K .194/.390/.613 in a fun 41 PA sample.

LF Jackson Castillo: 0-for-1, 2 RS, 4 BB, 1 K The 20-year-old undrafted free agent out of the College of Southern Nevada shows off some discipline in game 2 of his professional career. 2B Enmanuel Tejeda: 1-for-4, HR (4), 3 RBI, 2 RS, BB .308/.468/.462 in 188 PA. This is what I like to say about teenagers in the rookie leagues: The goal is to do enough to earn a coveted slot in a full-season league. Tejeda has done that, so we’ll see what’s next. RF John Cruz: 4-for-5, RBI, 2 RS It will be hard to top his feat of 14 RBI in two games, but today was a good day. It is his second 4-hit game this season. SS Hans Montero: 1-for-5 3B Dylan Jasso: 2-for-4, 2B (5), RBI, BB 13-for-27 (.481) with five doubles and nine walks. Jasso should crush this level and is. RHP Chalniel Arias: 2 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 4 BB, 2 K I am often asked about players being promoted from the DSL to the FCL in the same season. I don’t think it happens often, but here is one example. RHP Sebastian Keane: 2.1 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K RHP Yoljeldriz Diaz: 1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
DSL Yankees (29-15) (Demolished Mets Orange, 20-8)

Yankees MILB 8/13: Christopher Familia: HR, 5 RBI
POSTED ON AUGUST 13, 2023 BY ADMIN News:
Nothing to report.
Scranton (54-57; 20-17 in the second half) (Defeated Syracuse, 6-2)
LF Everson Pereira: 0-for-5, 3 K Since promotion: .311/.368/.533 in 136 PA. C Austin Wells: 0-for-4, K Since promotion: .257/.356/.365 in 87 PA with eight doubles, ten walks, and 20 strikeouts. 3B Oswald Peraza: 1-for-3, RS, BB, K .261/.354/.470 in 271 PA (8 doubles, 1 triple, 13 HR, 33 RBI, 42 R, 28 BB, 48 K, 12-for-16 SB). His season doesn’t shout at you, but he is still doing more than enough to earn a consistent MLB shot. RF Franchy Cordero: 1-for-3, 2B (11), RS, BB 1B Carlos Narvaez: 0-for-1, 2 RS, 2 BB Since promotion: .262/.396/.426 in 227 PA (6 doubles, 8 HR, 24 RBI, 33 R, 38 BB (16.7%), 54 K (23.8%)) DH Jake Lamb: 1-for-3, HR (1), 3 RBI, RS Lamb’s first HR as a member of the Yankees organization. 2B Jamie Westbrook: 1-for-3, HR (17), 3 RBI, RS, BB Westbrook is two away from tying his career-best for homers in a season. His .524 SLG is the best number in his career. I hope this grinder at least earns a cup of MLB coffee. He has been doing the minor-league thing for years. CF Brandon Lockridge: 1-for-4, 2 K, SB (15) For Scranton: .286/.348/.365 in 138 PA. Overall: .297/.369/.428 in 252 PA (12 doubles, 4 triples, 3 HR, 24 RBI, 32 R, 25 BB, 61 K, 32-for-36 SB (88.9%)) SS Wilmer Difo: 0-for-3, BB
LHP Edgar Barclay: 4.2 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 7 K, HR Since promotion: 4.97 ERA (12.2 IP, 14 H, 8 R, 7 ER, 3 HR, 8 BB, 11 K). Overall: 2.31 ERA in 46.2 IP (40 H, 15 R, 12 ER, 4 HR, 19 BB, 62 K) RHP Michael Gomez: 1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K RHP Zach Greene: (W, 2-0) 1.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K RHP Aaron McGarity: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K LHP Nick Ramirez: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
Somerset (63-43; 21-17 in the second half) (Shut down Binghamton, 8-0 – remember, Somerset is already in the playoffs)
LF Jasson Dominguez: 0-for-5, K After his insane hot streak, Dominguez is 0-for-12 with a pair of walks in his last three games. Correct – three games is about as small of a sample size as you can get. He is hitting .240/.743 OPS in 474 PA (14 doubles, 2 triples, 13 HR, 58 RBI, 74 R, 74 BB (15.6%), 122 K (25.7%), 36-for-43 SB) DH Ben Rice: 2-for-3, BB, K Since promotion: 27-for-79 (90 plate appearances; .342; 5 doubles, 1 triple, 7 HR, 25 RBI, 16 R, 9 BB (10%), 16 K (17.8%), 4-for-5 SB) C Agustin Ramirez: 1-for-3, 2B (1), BB Ramirez notches his first extra-base hit since his promotion. As he is moving up, the BB rate has gone down (18.5% for Tampa; 6.6% for Hudson Valley; one walk in 26 PA (3.8%) for Somerset). Is that worrisome? Not really – he was smoking the ball in Hudson Valley and the sample size is still quite small in Somerset. 1B Josh Breaux: 1-for-4, RS, K 2B Jesus Bastidas: 1-for-1, 2 RS, 3 BB, SB (1) Bastidas draws three walks for the first time in his career. CF Jeisson Rosario: 0-for-3, SF, RBI RF Aaron Palensky: 2-for-3, 2B (9), HR (6), 3 RBI, 3 RS, BB, K Palensky has 18 doubles and 18 HR between here and Hudson Valley. SS Max Burt: 1-for-4, HR (10), 2 RBI, RS, 2 K The utility guy reaches double digits in homers for the second straight year. 3B Eduardo Torrealba: 1-for-4, 2 RBI, K
RHP Blane Abeyta:(W, 7-6) 6 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 7 K 5.65 ERA (100.1 IP, 102 H, 65 R, 63 ER, 13 HR, 40 BB, 103 K). His K rate has jumped up from his time in Hudson Valley last year, though the same is true of the home run rate. It makes me wonder if they have changed anything with his pitch mix. RHP Jesus Liranzo: 1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K RHP Danny Watson: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K Since promotion: 1.33 ERA (27 IP, 12 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 HR, 11 BB, 31 K). Overall, Watson is up to 70 strikeouts in 51.1 innings. RHP Alex Mauricio: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K 3.38 ERA (40 IP, 36 H, 16 R, 15 ER, 4 HR, 12 BB, 39 K)
Hudson Valley (59-49; 20-22 in the second half) (Lost two games to Jersey Shore – remember, Hudson Valley is already in the playoffs)
Game 1 (Lost, 12-10. Since this game was the conclusion of a suspended game, it went all nine innings)
CF Spencer Jones: 3-for-5, 2B (26), RBI, 2 RS, K, 2 SB (30) Jones joins Jasson Dominguez and Brandon Lockridge in the organization’s 30+ SB club. He has 12 3+ hit games this season. 2B Jared Serna: 2-for-3, RBI, RS, 2 BB, SB (4) Serna’s hitting streak (split between here and Tampa) reaches eight. He has 23 stolen bases in 29 tries between the two levels. SS Ben Cowles: 1-for-4, 2 RS, BB, 2 K LF Christopher Familia: 3-for-5, 2B (4), HR (8), 5 RBI, 2 RS Familia has two 5-RBI games in 2023 and has 19 homers and 52 RBI in 50 games between here and Tampa. His up-to-the-minute triple slashes: Overall: .317/.390/.678. For Hudson Valley (128 PA): 259/.328/.500. C Rafael Flores: 2-for-4, 2 2B (14), RBI, 2 RS, BB, K A much-needed game for Flores, who entered action 3-for-32 in August. 3B Jesus Rodriguez: 1-for-3, SF, 2 RBI, BB 7-for-13 with four RBI and five walks since his promotion. RF Anthony Hall: 1-for-5, K 3-for-21 with a double since his promotion. DH Antonio Gomez: 1-for-5, RS, 2 K 1B Spencer Henson: 0-for-5, 3 K
RHP Leonardo Pestana: 2.1 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 2 K, 2 HR RHP Mason Vinyard: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K RHP Harrison Cohen: 2 IP, 3 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 2 HR LHP Clay Aguilar: (L, 3-3) 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K Aguilar did allow three inherited runners to score. RHP Cole Ayers: 1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 0 K
Game 2 (Lost, 6-1. Since this was Game 2, it was a 7-inning game)
CF Spencer Jones: 1-for-4, K .264/.333/.451 in 418 PA (26 doubles, 4 triples, 12 HR, 52 RBI, 55 R, 38 BB, 124 K, 30-for-38 SB) SS Jared Serna: 1-for-3, BB Serna extends his hitting streak to nine and is 8-for-24 since his promotion. So far, the pitching here isn’t overwhelming him. LF Jesus Rodriguez: 0-for-4, 2 K 2B Alexander Vargas: 2-for-3, 2 2B (14), RS, 2 SB (13) Vargas is 6-for-9 in his last two games with three doubles, a home run, four runs batted in, and three stolen bases. C Antonio Gomez: 0-for-2, K 3B Ben Cowles: 0-for-2, BB, K 1B Rafael Flores: 1-for-3, RBI, K .273/.357/.363 in 353 PA (14 doubles, 1 triple, 4 HR, 31 RBI, 40 R, 40 BB, 90 K, 3-for-4 SB). A bit of a slump took him away from his chase for .300, but he is still having a solid year. I keep asking the same question about many: Is he a catcher? Plus, do the Yankees think there is power for him to tap into? He isn’t a small kid (6’4″, 220) so maybe they think he can grow into some additional pop. RF Grant Richardson: 0-for-3, K DH Jared Wegner: 0-for-2, BB
RHP Brendan Beck: (L, 0-1) 3.1 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 K Beck tossed 61 pitches tonight. Pitches by start: 37, 45, 48, 57, 54, 53, 59, 61. Tampa (52-56; 21-21 in the second half) (Knocked off Clearwater, 11-5)
SS Roc Riggio: 1-for-4, RS, BB, K Since promotion: 3-for-13 with a double and four walks. 1B Kiko Romero: 1-for-5, 2 RS, K Romero is 8-for-38 in nine games since his promotion. DH Omar Martinez: 3-for-4, 2 2B (14), 3 RS, BB, K .269/.382/.485 in 353 PA (14 doubles, 1 triple, 16 HR, 59 RBI, 55 R, 52 BB, 94 K, 8-for-9 SB). It is likely frustrating when your teammates get promoted and you are left behind. That is human nature, after all. All Martinez can do is continue to perform and learn. LF Coby Morales: 3-for-5, 3 2B (6), 3 RBI, 2 RS The 21-year-old left-handed bat has six doubles and a homer in nine games. That is a nice way to get your career started. RF Garrett Martin: 1-for-4, BB, K 6-for-26 with three doubles, four walks, and eight strikeouts. He was sent right to this level after being signed as an undrafted free agent. C Manuel Palencia: 3-for-5, 4 RBI, RS At this level: 5-for-12. He sets a new personal best for RBI in a game (this was only his 96th career game) CF Daury Arias: 0-for-3, RS, 2 BB, SB (10) Arias stole home and the back end of a double steal. He is hitting .222/.321/.321 in 361 PA. 3B Beau Brewer: 1-for-4, RBI, RS, BB, K, SB (3) Brewer is 10-for-29 (.345) in August. 2B Jose Colmenares: 1-for-3, RBI, BB, K
RHP Ryan Harvey: 3 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K Since promotion: 3.38 ERA (16 IP, 10 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 2 HR, 8 BB, 12 K) RHP Montana Semmell: (W, 1-0) 2 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K, HR Since promotion: 10 IP, 13 H, 9 R, 5 ER, 2 HR, 2 BB, 7 K RHP Anderson Munoz: 1 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 0 K RHP Ocean Gabonia: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K RHP Nolberto Henriquez: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K

Yankees MILB 8/15: Austin Wells Hits First Triple-A Homer
POSTED ON AUGUST 15, 2023 BY ADMIN News:
RHP Justin Lange was promoted from Tampa to Hudson Valley today.
The 21-year-old, acquired from the Padres for Luke Voit, pitched to a 4.58 ERA (4.80 FIP) over 72.2 innings for Tampa. He struck out a whopping 34.3% of hitters but walked 16.4%. Lange is the ultimate lottery ticket as the stuff is there for him to be a top pitching prospect. However, harnessing that stuff is a challenge.
I see Lange as a future power reliever, as I can see him taking a Dellin Betances path over the next several years. This isn’t me predicting he will be as good as Betances, who was among the top relievers in baseball during his prime.
Scranton (55-57; 21-17 in the second half) (Used a 4-run 9th to shock Worcester, 6-5)
SS Oswald Peraza: 2-for-5, 2B (9), RBI, 2 K, SB (13) Peraza’s RBI double with two outs in the top of the 9th was the game-winning hit. C Austin Wells: 1-for-5, HR (1), RBI, RS, 2 K Wells hits his first Triple-A home run (13th overall). LF Everson Pereira: 1-for-4, RS, 2 K Pereira is at .311/.368/.533 here and .300/.364/.540 overall. 3B Andres Chaparro: 0-for-2, BB, 2 K I am not sure why Chaparro left the game. 3B Wilmer Difo: 1-for-1, RS RF Franchy Cordero: 1-for-4, HR (13), 2 RBI, RS, 2 K Cordero’s 2-run home run started the rally in the 9th as it brought Scranton within one run. DH Carlos Narvaez: 1-for-4, 2B (7), RBI, 2 K 2B Jamie Westbrook: 1-for-4 1B Jake Lamb: 1-for-4, HR (2), RBI, RS, K Lamb’s solo HR with two outs in the 9th tied the game. CF Brandon Lockridge: 2-for-4, 2B (6), RS, K, SB (16) Lockridge has 33 stolen bases in 37 attempts between here and Somerset. This stolen base was especially important as it preceded Peraza’s ground rule double.
RHP Will Warren: 5 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 8 K, HR Warren tossed five scoreless innings before allowing a 3-run HR in the 6th. At this level: 5.10 ERA (60 IP, 59 H, 44 R, 34 ER, 12 HR, 33 BB, 65 K) RHP Zac Houston: 1 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, HR RHP Zach McAllister: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K Since signing: 5.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 7 K RHP Greg Weissert: (W, 4-3) 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K RHP Ron Marinaccio (S, 1): 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
Somerset (64-44; 22-18 in the second half) (Split two games against Reading)
Game 1 (Lost, 6-5, in ten innings. This game was the conclusion of a game that started on July 9th (suspended in the 9th inning) – that is why you see all the substitutions below. I am not going to make any notes because the vast majority of the stats are over a month old)
SS Trey Sweeney: 1-for-4, RS PH Ben Rice: 0-for-1, K LF Jasson Dominguez: 0-for-5, RS, 2 K C Austin Wells: 1-for-3, 2B (14) C Mickey Gasper: 1-for-2 3B Tyler Hardman: 0-for-3, BB, 2 K 3B Eduardo Torrealba: 0-for-0, SF, RBI 1B T.J. Rumfield: 0-for-3, HBP SS Max Burt: 0-for-1 CF Elijah Dunham: 3-for-5, HR (1), RBI, RS, K RF Aaron Palensky: 0-for-4, K DH Josh Breaux: 2-for-4, RS 2B Matt Pita: 1-for-3, HR (1), 2 RBI, RS, K PH-2B Anthony Seigler: 0-for-1, K
RHP Richard Fitts: 6 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 4 K RHP Jesus Liranzo: 1 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 1 K LHP Lisandro Santos: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K RHP Bailey Dees: (L, 0-1) 1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 0 K
Game 2 (Won, 4-3)
CF Jasson Dominguez: 1-for-3, SF, RBI, RS, BB, K .240/.358/.383 in 480 PA (14 doubles, 2 triples, 13 HR, 59 RBI, 76 R, 75 BB, 123 K, 36-for-43 SB) 1B Ben Rice: 1-for-5, HR (8), 2 RBI, RS, 2 K Rice has 8 HR (and five doubles) in 22 games since his promotion and 12 HR in 47 games overall. He is on a mini five-game hitting streak. C Agustin Ramirez: 2-for-4, RS, HBP Ramirez was 4-for-25 since his promotion entering tonight, so it is nice to see him compile a multi-hit game. This is not an easy jump, so we’ll see how he adjusts over the next month. LF Elijah Dunham: 1-for-5, 2 K 2B Caleb Durbin: 1-for-2, 2B (5), RBI, HBP Durbin’s first game since June 17th. He was amongst the minor league stolen base leaders (with 29) at the time of his injury. That number held up in this organization until Jasson Dominguez and Brandon Lockridge recently surpassed it. 2B Max Burt: 0-for-2 No worries – Durbin was not going to play a full game on his first day back. I wouldn’t be surprised if he is the designated hitter tomorrow. DH Anthony Seigler: 0-for-4, K SS Jesus Bastidas: 0-for-3, HBP RF Jeisson Rosario: 1-for-1, 2B (15), RS, 3 BB Rosario leads the organization (amongst those in full-season leagues) in BB% (18.1%). He has four 3+ walk games this season. 3B Eduardo Torrealba: 0-for-2, SAC, 2 K
RHP Chase Hampton: (W, 2-2) 6 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 6 K, HR Since promotion: 4.77 ERA (54.2 IP, 50 H, 33 R, 29 ER, 8 HR, 20 BB, 62 K). For those worried about him “struggling” since his promotion: This level will humble you. I don’t think it is anything to be concerned about, especially since this is his first professional season. RHP Jack Neely: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K Since promotion: 5 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 HR, 2 BB, 6 K. Neely has 80 strikeouts in 53.2 innings between here and Hudson Valley. RHP Danny Watson (S, 5): 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 1 K Since promotion: 1.29 ERA (28 IP, 12 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 HR, 13 BB, 32 K). Watson has allowed 72 hits in 113.1 career innings.
Hudson Valley (60-49; 21-22 in the second half) (Defeated Brooklyn, 4-2)
CF Spencer Jones: 0-for-4, CI, 2 K RF Anthony Hall: 2-for-4, 2 2B (3), RS, K Hall is 5-for-15 after starting 0-for-10 at this level. 2B Jared Serna: 1-for-4, K Serna now has a 10-game hitting streak (7 games here, 3 games for Tampa). He is 9-for-28 since his promotion with three walks and three strikeouts. LF Jesus Rodriguez: 1-for-3, HR (1), 2 RBI, RS, HBP Rodriguez is hitting .303 between Tampa and Hudson Valley and is 8-for-20 with six RBI since his promotion. SS Alexander Vargas: 1-for-4, RS, 3 K C Antonio Gomez: 1-for-4, K 3B Ben Cowles: 2-for-4, HR (10), 2 RBI, RS, K I don’t think Cowles belongs at this level any longer. He is 23 (drafted in the 10th round out of Maryland in 2021). Cowles played 23 games here in 2022 and is up to 87 games in 2023. DH Christopher Familia: 0-for-4, K 1B Rafael Flores: 0-for-4, K
RHP Baron Stuart: (W, 2-1) 5 IP, 6 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 1 K The ultimate bend-don’t-break. RHP Mason Vinyard: 2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K Vinyard strands two Stuart runners in the 6th. He drops his ERA at this level to 3.00 (24 IP, 17 H, 9 R, 8 ER, 2 HR, 15 BB, 27 K) RHP Carlos Gomez: 1.1 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 3 K, HR LHP Joel Valdez (S, 1): 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
Tampa (52-57; 21-22 in the second half) (Lost a tough one to Daytona Beach, 8-7. They had a 7-2 lead entering the bottom of the 8th)
SS Roc Riggio: 1-for-3, 2 RS, BB, 2 K Riggio is 4-for-16 at this level. 1B Kiko Romero: 1-for-3, 3B (1), RBI, 2 BB Romero’s first professional triple. C Omar Martinez: 1-for-5, HR (17), RBI, 2 RS Martinez’s first bomb since hitting five in three games back in late July/early August. Baseball is such a funny game. That said, he is 6-for-16 with three doubles, a home run, and six runs scored in his last four games. LF Coby Morales: 3-for-5, 2B (7), RBI, K, CS (1) Morales has seven doubles and a homer in ten games (12-for-41) DH Josh Moylan: 1-for-3, RBI, 2 BB, K Moylan is 8-for-29 with nine walks and 11 strikeouts. RF Tayler Aguilar: 0-for-3, 2 BB, 2 K, CS (2) CF Cole Gabrielson: 1-for-5, RS, 2 K 2B Beau Brewer: 2-for-4, RS, K Brewer is up to .260 thanks to a 12-for-33 August. 3B Jose Colmenares: 2-for-4, 2 2B (3), 2 RBI, RS, K, SB (1) In his small sample size, he is hitting .237 – but it comes with a 1.040 OPS.
RHP Yorlin Calderon: 2.1 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 5 K 3.46 ERA (65 IP, 62 H, 28 R, 25 ER, 5 HR, 21 BB, 82 K). Calderon has starting experience (including throwing a no-hitter last year), but this was his first start this season. RHP Alex Bustamante: 2.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K RHP Matt Keating: 2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, HR RHP Huey Morrill: 0.1 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 0 BB, 0 K, HR LHP Geoffrey Gilbert: (L, 5-2) 0.2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 1 K Gilbert’s first appearance since 7/27.
FCL Yankees (30-20) (Lost to the Tigers, 3-2)
DH Keiner Delgado: 2-for-4, HR (7), RBI, RS In 2022, the league leader in home runs hit six. In other words, hitting seven in 44 games is no small feat. Delgado is hitting .287/.400/.481 with 28 stolen bases in 33 attempts. He is 19 years old, so I think a trip to Tampa before the season ends would be wise. CF Jackson Castillo: 1-for-4, RS, 2 K RF Willy Montero: 1-for-4, RBI Montero is hitting .345/.395/.458 and his 41 RBI (43 games) rank him second in the FCL. 3B Dylan Jasso: 0-for-4, K This snaps Jasso’s 6-game hitting streak. He is searching for that first professional home run but does have seven doubles in 12 games. LF John Cruz: 0-for-2, 2 BB, K, SB (8) .289/.367/.535 in 180 PA (5 doubles, 2 triples, 10 HR, 44 RBI, 27 R, 18 BB, 41 K, 8-for-11 SB). Cruz leads the league in RBI and is second in home runs (to a kid who is old enough to be his grandfather – OK, I am exaggerating). Cruz was signed for $75,000 in 2022 and thus far is making the Yankees look wise for that investment. 2B Enmanuel Tejeda: 1-for-3, BB, 2 K, SB (22) .311/.470/.477 in 198 PA. The one thing I like about the 18-year-old is that he is mostly hitting just like he did in the DSL, while doubling his stolen base total. SS Hans Montero: 0-for-3, BB, K .256/.410/.405 in 212 PA with a perfect 15-for-15 stolen base rate. After a red-hot start, he has fallen down. The overall line remains encouraging and I hope he can close his season on a hot streak. C Juan Sanchez: 1-for-4, 2B (2), K 1B Enger Castellano: 0-for-4, K
RHP Luis Serna (L, 0-1): 2.2 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K 4.19 ERA (19.1 IP, 17 H, 11 R, 9 ER, 2 HR, 8 BB, 23 K) LHP Edwar Polimir: 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 2 K RHP Kris Bow: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K Bow was having trouble up in Low-A. Sometimes, a prospect just needs a reset. RHP Yoljeldriz Diaz: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
DSL Yankees (31-15) (Shut down the Cardinals, 6-0)
CF Jose Castro: 1-for-4, K, SB (18), CS (2) DH Josue Gonzalez: 1-for-3, 2 RS, BB, SB (7) .360/.553/.584 in a crazy 132 PA sample (he has 12 doubles, 36 walks, and 19 strikeouts) SS Luis Suarez: 1-for-3, 2 RBI, RS, BB, K, SB (19) 3B Santiago Gomez: 1-for-1, RS, BB, 2 HBP, SB (15) .298/.473/.427 in 169 PA with 31 RBI and 35 runs scored. The 19-year-old is repeating the level. C Gabriel Bersing: 1-for-4, HR (4), RBI, RS, 3 K
RHP Christian Zazueta (W, 3-2): 5 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 7 K 3.47 ERA (46.2 IP, 37 H, 20 R, 18 ER, 6 HR, 15 BB, 47 K) LHP Pedro Rodriguez: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K RHP Yordanny Sosa: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K
DSL Bombers (23-25) (Knocked off Mets Blue, 13-6)
CF Gabriel Lara: 2-for-5, RBI, 3 RS, BB .271/.399/.421 in 173 PA (7 doubles, 1 triple, 4 HR, 29 RBI, 32 R, 26 BB, 30 K, 16-for-22 SB). A disruptive force. C Edgleen Perez: 0-for-4, 3 RBI, BB How often does a player go 0-for-4 with three RBI and zero sac flies? SS Kevin Verde: 1-for-4, RBI, RS LF Abrahan Ramirez: 1-for-4, RS, BB, SB (11) .305/.464/.379 in 125 PA. He performed well at this level as a 17-year-old in 2022, so he is likely earning his way to the FCL. RF David Beckles: 1-for-2, RBI, 2 RS, 3 BB DH Luis Puello: 1-for-4, 2B (3), 2 RBI, RS 2B Rafael Martinez: 1-for-2, RBI, 2 RS, 2 BB The 17-year-old is hitting .227/.327/.284 in 104 PA. This is his debut season.
LHP Rafelin Nivar (W, 2-0): 2.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K When a pitcher is in his 20s and down at this level, almost impossible to get a true read. He definitely strikes out his share of hitters (65 in 45.1 career innings) RHP Angel Sanchez: 1.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K Sanchez is 22, but this is his debut season. He has yet to allow a run in 7.2 innings. RHP Keninson Diaz: 2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K The 19-year-old has shown impressive improvement from 2022 (8.68 ERA in 18.2 IP) to 2023 (2.83 ERA in 28.2 IP) LHP Luis Urbano: 1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K

Yankees MILB 8/16: Jasson Dominguez: 3 Hits, HR
POSTED ON AUGUST 16, 2023 BY ADMIN News:
Yes, I saw the quotes from OF Ben Ruta, a former Yankees farmhand who is exposing some of the inner workings down on the farm.
I am not someone who is going to go crazy over a former prospect lashing out. While I don’t think he is lying, there could be some exaggeration for effect. I would love to hear more stories from prospects who played in the system around the same timeframe to verify the claims.
Back in the old days, we would never just take one person’s word for it. You would interview multiple people to verify the claims being made. That is all I am asking for.
Ruta had a couple of solid seasons in the Yankees system but eventually faded away. He did play for the Padres’ system in 2021, hitting .178 in 76 games before being released. No word on who is blamed for that.
Scranton (55-58; 21-18 in the second half) (Lost to Worcester, 8-1)
RF Franchy Cordero: 0-for-4, K SS Oswald Peraza: 0-for-4, K LF Everson Pereira: 1-for-4, 2 K Pereira is in a little 2-for-16 slump (8 K) C Austin Wells: 1-for-4, K, SB (2) Wells is now 39-for-39 stealing bases in his career. Since promotion: .253/.344/.386 in 96 PA (8 doubles, 1 HR, 8 RBI, 8 R, 10 BB, 23 K, 2-for-2 SB) 1B Carlos Narvaez: 0-for-3, BB, 2 K Since promotion: .258/.391/.421 in 235 PA. Narvaez is a Rule 5 eligible C/1B who is hitting well in the upper minors. There are only so many players you can protect and I would guess he is on the borderline. 2B Jamie Westbrook: 0-for-3, 2 K DH Jake Lamb: 1-for-3, 2 K CF Michael Hermosillo: 0-for-3 SS Wilmer Difo: 1-for-3, HR (4), RBI, RS, K
RHP Clayton Beeter (L, 1-4): 4 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 5 K, HR Since promotion: 6.31 ERA (35.2 IP, 35 H, 26 R, 25 ER, 10 HR, 19 BB, 42 K) RHP Aaron McGarity: 1 IP, 2 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 0 K, 2 HR LHP Josh Maciejewski: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K Between here, Somerset, and Hudson Valley: 2.57 ERA in 28 IP (27 H, 9 R, 8 ER, 2 HR, 8 BB, 32 K) RHP Matt Bowman: 1 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 0 K LHP Nick Ramirez: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
Somerset (65-44; 23-18 in the second half) (Tripled up Reading, 9-3)
LF Jasson Dominguez: 3-for-5, 2B (15), HR (14), RBI, RS, 2 K .244/.361/.395 in 485 PA (15 doubles, 2 triples, 14 HR, 60 RBI, 77 R, 75 BB (15.5%), 125 K (25.8%), 36-for-43 SB). Dominguez is 21-for-59 (.356) in August C Ben Rice: 1-for-5, HR (9), RBI, RS, 2 K Rice has homered in back-to-back games and in four of his last six games. He has 13 HR, 48 RBI, and 40 runs in 48 games across three levels (his ten games for Tampa were rehab games). DH Agustin Ramirez: 0-for-5, 2 K Jumping three levels in one year is tough. This is a great experience for Ramirez. I won’t tell you to ignore the numbers – I will tell you how valuable this experience is for him, regardless of where his Double-A numbers land at the end of the season. CF Elijah Dunham: 0-for-5, 2 K 1B Josh Breaux: 1-for-4, 2B (4), 2 RS, BB, K 2B Anthony Seigler: 1-for-2, HR (3), 2 RBI, RS, 2 BB, HBP .171/.335/.253 in 218 PA. For the second straight season, he has more walks (43) than strikeouts (40). That is impressive, but we need to see more of a hit tool. 3B Max Burt: 0-for-4, RS, HBP, 2 K SS Jesus Bastidas: 1-for-3, 2B (1), 2 RBI, 2 RS, BB RF Aaron Palensky: 2-for-3, 2B (10), HR (7), 3 RBI, RS, HBP, K Palensky, who has topped the organization’s wRC+ leaderboard most of the year, has 19 doubles, 19 HR, 56 RBI, and 63 runs scored between here and Hudson Valley. He is trying to finish strong (8-for-26 in August with three doubles and two homers)
RHP Yoendrys Gomez: 4.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 11 K Gomez sets a new personal best for strikeouts in a game. He owns a 3.14 ERA in 43 IP (29 H, 17 R, 15 ER, 4 HR, 24 BB, 51 K). The Yankees have stored him on the 40-man roster for a few years now – more for his projection as he hasn’t stayed healthy. He is one to watch this winter. RHP Tanner Myatt: 0.2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K RHP Jesus Liranzo: (W, 2-0) 2.1 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K RHP Alex Mauricio: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K 3.24 ERA (41.2 IP, 37 H, 16 R, 15 ER, 4 HR, 13 BB, 41 K). He hasn’t allowed a run in five August appearances (6 IP)
Hudson Valley (61-49; 22-22 in the second half) (Knocked down Brooklyn, 7-1)
CF Spencer Jones: 3-for-4, 2B (27), 2 RBI, 2 RS, BB, K, 2 SB (32) Jones has two 3-hit games in his last four games played and 13 such games in 2023 (including a 4-hit game). I get that some wish he had more than 12 HR in 94 games, but he is earning his extra-base hits and showing off his athleticism with the stolen bases. The home run stroke should come with maturity. RF Anthony Hall: 1-for-3, 2B (4), 2 RBI, RS, 2 BB, K Since promotion: 6-for-28. He has hit safely in four straight games after starting off 0-for-10 at this level. SS Jared Serna: 0-for-4, HBP, K Serna’s 10-game hitting streak is snapped. He is 9-for-32 (.281) since his promotion. C Jesus Rodriguez: 0-for-3, BB, HBP, K Rodriguez is 8-for-23 with six walks since his promotion. 2B Alexander Vargas: 1-for-5, RBI, K DH Antonio Gomez: 0-for-5, K 3B Ben Cowles: 0-for-1, RS, 3 BB, K, SB (17) .261/.358/.414 in 371 PA (16 doubles, 1 triple, 10 HR, 36 RBI, 50 R, 44 BB, 104 K, 17-for-20 SB). He is 14-for-39 with 11 walks in August. LF Christopher Familia: 0-for-2, 2 RS, 2 BB 1B Rafael Flores: 0-for-3, RS, BB
RHP Justin Lange: (W, 1-0) 5.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 8 K A very impressive High-A debut for Lange, who has all the talent in the world. He just needs to harness it (I say that as if it is so easy). Between here and Tampa, he has 123 strikeouts in 78.1 innings. The issue is the 56 walks. RHP Harrison Cohen: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K RHP Cole Ayers: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
Tampa (53-57; 22-22 in the second half) (Held off Daytona Beach, 8-6)
DH Roc Riggio: 0-for-2, 2 RBI, 4 BB, K A pair of RBI walks for Riggio, who is 4-for-18 with nine walks and seven strikeouts at this level. 1B Kiko Romero: 0-for-2, 2 RBI, 4 BB, 2 K Sheesh, the top of the order set the table tonight, eh? Yet, neither scored a run. Anyway, Romero (who also had a pair of RBI walks) has six walks in his last two games. We should see college kids adjust to Low-A pretty quickly. C Omar Martinez: 1-for-5, 2 RBI Martinez is up to 62 RBI, which ranks him second in the league (former teammate Jared Serna still leads the way at 71) SS Brenny Escanio: 1-for-4, RS, 2 K CF Daury Arias: 1-for-5, RS RF Garrett Martin: 0-for-4, RS, HBP, 3 K LF Cole Gabrielson: 1-for-4, RBI, RS, BB, 2 K, SB (1) Gabrielson with his first career SB. 2B Beau Brewer: 1-for-2, 3 RS, 3 BB, K August: 13-for-35 with eight walks and four strikeouts. Remember that Brewer is only 21 – it is easy to think that he is older as he was drafted out of college, but it was a JUCO. 3B Jose Colmenares: 0-for-2, RBI, RS, 3 BB, K
RHP Cam Schlittler: 3.2 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, HR At this level: 4.09 ERA (11 IP, 12 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 HR, 5 BB, 10 K). This is obvious a “get your feet wet” season for Schlittler. RHP Osiel Rodriguez: (W, 2-0) 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K Since promotion: 10.1 IP, 8 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 2 HR, 8 BB, 15 K RHP Adam Stone: 1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K Stone’s first performance since July 19th. RHP Anderson Munoz: 0.2 IP, 1 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 2 K RHP Ocean Gabonia: 1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 1 K RHP Nolberto Henriquez: (S, 1) 1.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K Henriguez loaded the bases with nobody out in the 9th, but got out of it.
FCL Yankees (30-20)
Day off.
DSL Yankees (31-16) (Lost to LAD Bautista, 9-8. This was the conclusion of a suspended game from 7/27)
I am not going to dig too deeply into the numbers.
CF Brando Mayea was 1-for-2. He was pulled for a pinch runner, but I believe that was back on 7/27, not today…DH Josue Gonzalez doubled, walked, and scored a pair of runs. He has 13 doubles in 30 games…LF Jhon Imbert compiled a double, swatted a sacrifice fly, and drove home three…
DSL Bombers (24-25) (Defeated Arizona Red, 7-4. This was the conclusion of a suspended game from 7/26)
3B Gabriel Terrero went 1-for-2 with two runs scored and a walk…LF David Beckles drove home three and drew a pair of walks…
RHP Jose Julian Rodriguez: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K

Yankees MILB 8/17: Solid Night for Richard Fitts
POSTED ON AUGUST 17, 2023 BY ADMIN News:
Estevan Florial‘s stay on the injured list was short-lived as he returned to action tonight.
Both OF Everson Pereira and C Austin Wells didn’t play tonight for Scranton, fueling speculation that one or both could be on their way to New York. There is nothing (yet) that indicates this will happen (players do get random days off in the minors, though the timing would be interesting. On Friday, the Yankees can bring them up without losing a year of control).
Scranton (56-58; 22-18 in the second half) (Defeated Worcester, 2-1)
CF Estevan Florial: 0-for-5 His stay on the IL wasn’t a long one. 2B Oswald Peraza: 1-for-4 1B Andres Chaparro: 1-for-4, HR (21), RBI, RS, K Chaparro sets a new personal best for home runs in a season. He has 41 HR in 749 plate appearances over the last two seasons. C Carlos Narvaez: 0-for-2, BB, HBP, K 3B Jamie Westbrook: 1-for-4, RS DH Rodolfo Duran: 2-for-2, 2 BB .249/.323/.447 in 220 plate appearances. RF Michael Hermosillo: 1-for-4, RBI, K LF Brandon Lockridge: 1-for-3, SAC And we were told that the Yankees don’t “teach baseball”… SS Wilmer Difo: 1-for-3, 2B (7), BB, K
RHP Mitch Spence: 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 K 4.63 ERA (126.1 IP, 125 H, 72 R, 65 ER, 24 HR, 43 BB, 115 K). Spence is doing a solid job eating innings down here and perhaps can earn himself a big-league shot. I don’t think that will happen with the Yankees, though. RHP Michael Gomez: 0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K LHP Anthony Misiewicz (W, 1-1): 1.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, HR RHP Zach Greene (S, 2): 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K
Somerset (65-45; 23-19 in the second half) (Lost to Reading, 5-4)
CF Jasson Dominguez: 1-for-4, 2B (16), 2 RBI, BB, 3 K Yes, he struck out three times. You still can’t ignore how much better Dominguez has played in recent weeks. I would end his season in Scranton, personally. C Ben Rice: 1-for-4, RS, BB You know you are having a good season when a single and a walk are a “ho-hum” night for you. DH Agustin Ramirez: 1-for-5, 2 K Ramirez is 7-for-39 with a double since his promotion. I will continue to tell anyone who reads his stat line during this adjustment period to have some patience. RF Elijah Dunham: 1-for-2, 2 BB, K 2B Caleb Durbin: 0-for-3, K 2B Eduardo Torrealba: 1-for-1, RBI 1B Mickey Gasper: 0-for-4, K LF Aaron Palensky: 0-for-4, RS, SB (9) Between Hudson Valley and Somerset, Palensky has 19 doubles, 19 homers, and 20 stolen bases. SS Jesus Bastidas: 1-for-3, HR (2), RBI, 2 RS, BB, K Bastidas has 11 home runs between Scranton and Somerset. 3B Max Burt: 1-for-4, K
RHP Richard Fitts: 5.1 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, HR It was a battle for Fitts tonight, who needed 102 pitches to earn the 16 outs. The impressive thing is that he was able to keep runs off the board, allowing only a solo HR in the first inning. He owns a 3.31 ERA in 125 IP (105 H, 47 R, 46 ER, 18 HR, 32 BB, 135 K). August: 18.1 IP, 9 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 6 BB, 17 K. It is all a matter of preference when it comes to their Double-A arms. I think Chase Hampton has the most upside as a potential top-of-the-rotation guy, but Fitts and Drew Thorpe both appear to be legitimate. RHP Bailey Dees: 1 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 1 K RHP Danny Watson: 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, HR Since promotion: 1.55 ERA (29 IP, 13 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 4 HR, 14 BB, 33 K) RHP Jack Neely: (L, 0-1) 0.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, HR We expect Dees-Watson-Neely to shut it down every night – sometimes, the baseball gods just tell us no.
Hudson Valley (62-49; 23-22 in the second half) (Pulled off a nice comeback against Brooklyn, 6-5. They were down 5-0 entering the top of the 5th)
CF Spencer Jones: 0-for-4, RS, BB, 2 K, SB (33) DH Anthony Hall: 2-for-3, 2B (5), RBI, 2 BB Hall is up to .258/.361/.419 in 37 PA since his promotion and .267/.380/.446 in 309 PA overall. 2B Jared Serna: 0-for-5, K 3B Jesus Rodriguez: 3-for-5, RBI, RS Rodriguez’s big season continues. He has two 3-hit games in eight games played since his promotion (11-for-28). SS Alexander Vargas: 0-for-5, K 1B Spencer Henson: 0-for-4 C Rafael Flores: 1-for-4, 2B (15), RBI, RS, K RF Grant Richardson: 3-for-4, 2B (6), HR (13), 2 RBI, 2 RS, K Richardson has been hovering around .200 for most of the season (currently at .199). There is power and speed in his game – can they develop his hit tool? LF Jared Wegner: 2-for-3, RS, BB, K At this level: 4-for-11 with a pair of doubles.
LHP Brock Selvidge: 3.2 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, 6 K The strikeouts are nice, but it was a tough night for Selvidge. Given how well he is pitching in 2023, we can toss this one aside. Since his promotion: 3.95 ERA (27.1 IP, 23 H, 13 R, 12 ER, 1 HR, 9 BB, 28 K). Overall, Selvidge is up to 104.2 innings (he tossed 42.2 innings in 2022) RHP Luis Velasquez: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 1 K Since promotion: 2.22 ERA (28.1 IP, 16 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 1 HR, 18 BB, 31 K) LHP Clay Aguilar: 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K 3.13 ERA (31.2 IP, 27 H, 13 R, 11 ER, 2 HR, 14 BB, 47 K). Signed as an undrafted free agent in 2020 (shortened COVID draft), Aguilar has pitched well. He did miss all of 2022 due to injury. RHP Shane Gray: (W, 2-1) 2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K A much-needed performance for Gray, who struggled in his first seven appearances at this level.
Tampa (54-57; 23-22 in the second half) (Destroyed Daytona, 10-1)
2B Roc Riggio: 0-for-4, RBI, 2 BB, 3 K Riggio has 11 walks in seven games since his promotion. 1B Josh Moylan: 0-for-3, SF, RBI, RS, BB, K DH Omar Martinez: 1-for-4, RBI, BB, 2 K .267/.377/.485 in 363 solid plate appearances (14 doubles, 1 triple, 17 HR, 62 RBI, 57 R, 52 BB, 95 K) LF Garrett Martin: 1-for-5, 2B (4), RBI, 2 K RF Tayler Aguilar: 1-for-4, 3B (1), RS, BB, 3 K CF Cole Gabrielson: 1-for-5, 3B (1), RBI, RS, 2 K C Manuel Palencia: 2-for-4, 3 RS, BB Palencia is 7-for-16 with four RBI and five runs scored at this level. He hit .271/.354/.314 in 79 FCL plate appearances. 3B Beau Brewer: 2-for-2, 2 RBI, 2 RS, 3 BB Brewer continues his hot August (15-for-37; 11 BB, 4 K). He has walked six times in his last two games. SS Jose Colmenares: 1-for-3, HR (5), 2 RBI, 2 RS, 2 BB, K The 21-year-old has five HR in 15 games. He hit four homers in 57 games in 2021-2022.
RHP Hayden Merda: 4.2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 5 K RHP Montana Semmel: (W, 2-0) 2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 6 K Impressive night for the 21-year-old. He owns a 13/2 K/BB ratio in 12.1 IP at this level (3.65 ERA) RHP Luis Arejula: 2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 K Low-A debut for the 21-year-old. He pitched to a 2.84 ERA in seven games down in the FCL.
FCL Yankees (30-21) (Lost a big game to the Phillies, 9-5. A win today and tomorrow would have resulted in a division title. A win tomorrow will still reduce the magic number to 1)
2B Keiner Delgado: 0-for-3, 2 BB, 2 K .283/.400/.473 in 220 PA with more walks (31) than strikeouts (29). He is 28-for-33 stealing bases. CF Jackson Castillo: 0-for-2, RS, 2 BB RF Willy Montero: 1-for-4, RBI, RS, BB .343/.395/.453 in 190 PA with 42 runs batted in. 1B Dylan Jasso: 1-for-4, RBI, BB 17-for-45 (.378) with a 10/4 BB/K ratio. Jasso has reached base in 12 of his 13 games. LF John Cruz: 0-for-3, RBI, RS, BB, 2 K DH Enmanuel Tejeda: 1-for-4, K Tejeda is on a 6-game hitting streak and is hitting .310/.465/.471 in 202 PA. He has 22 stolen bases in 28 attempts. SS Hans Montero: 1-for-3, 3B (3), RS, BB 3B Dayro Perez: 1-for-3, SF, RBI, RS C Edinson Duran: 1-for-4, RBI, K
RHP Jackson Fristoe (L, 1-3): 3.1 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 5 K 5.27 ERA (27.1 IP, 20 H, 16 R, 16 ER, 3 HR, 24 BB, 31 K) LHP Allen Facundo: 2 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K 2.37 ERA (30.1 IP, 20 H, 11 R, 8 ER, 0 HR, 13 BB, 40 K). Facundo hasn’t allowed a home run in 79 career innings. RHP Sebastian Keane: 1.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K 1.85 ERA (24.1 IP, 11 H, 7 R, 5 ER, 1 HR, 14 BB, 34 K). I will continue to hope that he will spend the last month of the season up in Tampa. RHP Donys Garcia: 1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 0 K
DSL Yankees (31-17) (Lost to the 39-12 Pirates Gold squad, 10-0)
CF Andres Lacruz and LF Andry Javier (double) are the only two players to compile a hit this afternoon. Javier (19) is hitting .324/.495/.465 with 23 walks and 11 strikeouts. Lacruz (who added two walks to his single) is hitting .250/.432/.340 with 19 stolen bases in 21 attempts.
LHP Franyer Herrera: 2.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K This is the first career start for Herrera (following ten relief appearances)
DSL Bombers (24-26) (Lost to DSL Colorado, 4-2)
2B Gabriel Terrero: 1-for-3, HR (7), 2 RBI, RS, BB .300/.405/.538 in 153 PA (8 doubles, 1 triple, 7 HR, 26 RBI, 30 R, 20 BB, 33 K, 14-for-18 SB). A solid debut season for the 17-year-old. CF Gabriel Lara: 0-for-3, BB, SB (17), CS (7) We won’t worry about the SB% right now – I 100% agree with having Lara try to steal as often as possible while in the minors. If he makes it, stealing bases will be a part of his value.
RHP Mariano Salomon (L, 3-3): 4 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K An impressive debut season includes a 3.13 ERA and 60/9 K/BB ratio over 46 innings. He is 21 years old. RHP Christopher Medina: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 0 K

Yankees MILB 8/18: Jasson Dominguez’s Big Night
POSTED ON AUGUST 18, 2023 BY ADMIN News:
I don’t even know what to report anymore.
Scranton (56-59; 22-19 in the second half) (Lost to Worcester, 3-1)
DH Estevan Florial: 0-for-3, BB, 3 K SS Oswald Peraza: 0-for-4, 2 K, SB (14) LF Everson Pereira: 1-for-2, 2 BB, K, SB (2) Pereira celebrates his lack of a promotion with a solid evening. C Austin Wells: 0-for-3, BB, K 3B Andres Chaparro: 1-for-4, HR (22), RBI, RS, K Chaparro has homered in back-to-back games. RF Franchy Cordero: 0-for-3, K 1B Jake Lamb: 0-for-3 CF Brandon Lockridge: 0-for-3, 2 K 2B Wilmer Difo: 0-for-2, BB, CS (7)
RHP Zac Houston: (L, 0-1) 2 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, HR A spot start tonight for Houston (4th career start in 220 games) LHP Josh Maciejewski: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K RHP Aaron McGarity: 2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K RHP Zach McAllister: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K
Somerset (66-45; 24-19 in the second half) (Mauled Reading, 22-3)
LF Jasson Dominguez: 4-for-6, HR (15), 3 RBI, 4 RS, BB, K, SB (37) Dominguez is hitting .251 with a .773 OPS (16 doubles, 2 triples, 15 HR, 65 RBI, 81 R, 77 BB, 129 K, 37-for-44 SB). He is 26-for-69 (.377) in August with six doubles, three homers, 13 RBI, 15 runs, nine walks, and an 8-for-9 SB rate. I will throw my hat into the “Get him to Triple-A” ring. 1B Ben Rice: 2-for-6, 2B (6), SF, RBI, K At this level: .320/.389/.670 in 113 PA (6 doubles, 1 triple, 9 HR, 29 RBI, 20 R, 10 BB, 21 K) C Agustin Ramirez: 3-for-5, HR (1), 2 RBI, 4 RS, 2 BB, SB (1) A big night for Ramirez, lifting his Double-A average from .179 to .227. Overall, he is at 288/.387/.491 in 401 PA (18 doubles, 17 HR, 61 RBI, 63 R, 54 BB, 67 K, and a 10-for-14 SB rate for good measure). CF Elijah Dunham: 2-for-5, SF, 2 RBI, 2 RS, BB, K Dunham is hitting .276/.358/.512 in 148 PA at this level. He struggled in Scranton earlier this season (.216/.330/.340), but it may be time to give him another shot. DH Caleb Durbin: 2-for-4, SB (15) Durbin was running away with the organization’s SB title before going down to injury. He is up to 30 in 54 games. PH-DH Mickey Gasper: 1-for-2, RBI, RS 2B Jesus Bastidas: 0-for-5, RBI, RS, BB RF Jeisson Rosario: 2-for-4, 3 RS, 2 BB, K 3B Eduardo Torrealba: 3-for-6, 2B (3), HR (1, grand slam), 7 RBI, 3 RS To call this a career night for Torrealba would be an understatement. Before tonight, he never drove in more than three runs in a game. SS Max Burt: 4-for-6, HR (11), 3 RBI, 3 RS, K, SB (14) The utility player puts together a big night.
RHP Drew Thorpe: (W, 2-0) 6.2 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 12 K, 2 HR The two home runs were hit in the 7th inning when Thorpe was approaching 100 pitches (he ended up at 103) and Somerset cruising along with a big lead. No issue with that. In his two Double-A appearances: 14.2 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 21 K. Overall, in 20 starts between here and Hudson Valley, Thorpe is 12-2 with a 2.62 ERA (123.2 IP, 91 H, 40 R, 36 ER, 12 HR, 34 BB, 159 K). He has six 10+ strikeout games. What more can I say than all that? RHP Carlos Gomez: 2.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 BB, 2 K Solid Double-A debut for Gomez.
Hudson Valley (62-50; 23-23 in the second half) (Lost to Brooklyn, 8-5)
CF Anthony Hall: 0-for-5, 4 K 2B Alexander Vargas: 1-for-5, RS SS Jared Serna: 2-for-5, 2B (2), RS At this level: 11-for-42 (.262) with a pair of doubles, three walks, and five strikeouts. I am not going to try to convince you that Cowles is a big prospect. I will ask why a college draftee from 2021 is still hanging around in High-A ball. 1B Spencer Henson: 1-for-3, 2 K 1B Rafael Flores: 0-for-1 LF Christopher Familia: 2-for-4, RS, K Familia is at .254/.329/.476 in 140 plate appearances at this level. LHP Joel Valdez: (L, 2-6) 0.2 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, HR RHP Mason Vinyard: 1.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K RHP Cole Ayers: 1.2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, HR

I would love to see the 22-year-old get some time in Hudson Valley. 1B Josh Moylan: 1-for-6, 2 K SS Brenny Escanio: 3-for-6, 3 RBI, 2 SB (18) If he ever discovers a hit tool, he can become a useful utility type. Easier said than done. LF Garrett Martin: 1-for-4, 2 RS, 2 BB, K 8-for-39 (.205) with four doubles, five runs, and six walks. CF Tayler Aguilar: 0-for-4, RS, BB, 3 K RF Daury Arias: 1-for-2, HR (6), 3 RBI, 2 RS, 3 BB .224/.326/.329 in 371 PA (12 doubles, 2 triples, 6 HR, 35 RBI, 43 R, 47 BB, 76 K, 10-for-11 SB) 3B Jose Colmenares: 3-for-4, HR (6), 3 RBI, 2 RS, BB, K, SB (2) I don’t know much about this 21-year-old, but he now has 6 HR in 16 games, including homers in back-to-back games.

FCL Yankees (31-21) (Doubled up the Phillies, 8-4, to reduce their magic number to 1. Both the Phillies and Tigers are still in it, but the Yankees just need to win one more game to clinch)
2B-SS Keiner Delgado: 1-for-2, 2 RBI, 2 RS, 2 BB, 3 SB (31), CS (6) Delgado is up to 65 stolen bases in 98 career games. He is hitting .285/.406/.473 in 224 PA. I think they need to get him to Tampa as soon as possible, as he will be 20 in January and is likely ready for the challenge. SS George Lombard, Jr.: 1-for-1, 2B (1), 2 BB A solid effort in Lombard’s professional debut. It will be fun to see how he progresses. 2B Enmanuel Tejeda: 0-for-0, RS, BB, SB (23) Imagine the infield logjam if Roderick Arias didn’t get hurt. CF Jackson Castillo: 2-for-4, 3 RBI With the draft shortened, we will see better talent on the undrafted free-agent list. The left-handed hitting Castillo could fit that definition. RF Willy Montero: 0-for-2, RS, BB, HBP 1B Dylan Jasso: 1-for-3, 2 RS, HBP Jasso is hitting .375 (18-for-48; 12 RBI, 12 R) with ten walks and five strikeouts. LF John Cruz: 1-for-3, BB 3B Hans Montero: 2-for-3, RBI, RS, BB This lineup is crazy deep. DH Wilson Rodriguez: 0-for-2, RS, BB C Juan Sanchez: 0-for-2, SF, RBI

DSL Yankees (32-17) (Defeated the DSL Rockies, 4-2. Game 2 of the scheduled doubleheader was canceled due to rain. It will not be made up)

Yankees MILB 8/19: Everson Pereira Homers Twice
POSTED ON AUGUST 19, 2023 BY ADMIN News:
Nada.
Scranton (56-60; 22-20 in the second half) (Lost a crazy one to Worcester, 14-12)
SS Oswald Peraza: 3-for-5, 3B (2), HR (14), 2 RBI, 3 RS, HBP, K, SB (15) This qualifies as a rather productive night. Peraza is hitting .262/.350/.477 in 294 PA (9 doubles, 2 triples, 14 HR, 36 RBI, 45 R, 28 BB (9.5%), 54 K (18.4%), 15-for-19 SB). Peraza has 754 career plate appearances in Triple-A. That is criminal if you truly believe in a prospect – and, if you don’t, it is criminal that you didn’t take advantage of his value. C Austin Wells: 2-for-6, 2B (9), HR (2), 3 RBI, RS, 4 K I would rather not see the four strikeouts, but the power is nice. He is hitting .250/.340/.413 in 106 PA at this level and .237/.329/.430 in 389 PA overall (23 doubles, 14 HR, 63 RBI, 39 R, 43 BB (11.1%), 91 K (23.4%), 7-for-7 SB). LF Everson Pereira: 2-for-4, 2 HR (8), 2 RBI, 3 RS, BB, K Pereira’s second 2-HR game in 2023. Overall, between here and Somerset, he is hitting .302/.370/.551 in 338 PA (17 doubles, 2 triples, 18 HR, 64 RBI, 50 R, 30 BB (8.9%), 97 K (28.7%), 10-for-12 SB). For Scranton, he is hitting .316/.379/.559 with eight homers and 33 RBI. I will tell anyone who listens that there are good things in his profile and not-so-ideal things in his profile. It doesn’t matter – let him get some well-deserved reps against big-league pitching. Nobody is asking him to be a savior at this point. 1B Andres Chaparro: 1-for-4, HR (23), RBI, RS, BB Chaparro has homered in three straight games and is three behind the injured Tyler Hardman for the organization’s home run lead. RF Franchy Cordero: 1-for-4, RS, BB DH Carlos Narvaez: 0-for-4, RBI, BB, 2 K, SB (4) Between here and Somerset: .247/.382/.417 in 304 plate appearances. The question the Yankees need to ask is whether he is a viable MLB backup. If another team thinks so, he will be plucked in the Rule 5 if not protected. 2B Jamie Westbrook: 1-for-2, RS, 3 BB, SB (4) 3B Jake Lamb: 1-for-5, 2 RBI, 3 K CF Michael Hermosillo: 0-for-5, K
LHP Edgar Barclay: (L, 0-2) 3 IP, 4 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 4 BB, 4 K, 2 HR Since promotion: 8.04 ERA (15.2 IP, 18 H, 15 R, 14 ER, 5 HR, 12 BB, 15 K) RHP Michael Gomez: 2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 4 K RHP Ron Marinaccio: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 1 K RHP Matt Bowman: 1 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, HR RHP Wilmer Difo: 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K Difo is the go-to guy when they are out of pitchers.
Somerset (66-46; 24-19 in the second half) (Lost to Reading, 8-7)
CF Jasson Dominguez: 0-for-5, K His games have been so exciting (for the most part) lately that a random, uneventful 0-for-5 feels out of place. C Ben Rice: 1-for-4, K 1B Agustin Ramirez: 0-for-4, K RF Elijah Dunham: 1-for-4, HR (8), RBI, RS, K DH Josh Breaux: 1-for-3, HR (7), RBI, 2 RS, BB, K It comes to the surprise of nobody has Breaux has seven homers in 20 games here. He has 26 homers in 99 games at this level from 2021-2023. SS Jesus Bastidas: 2-for-3, 2B (2), 2 RS, BB, K LF Aaron Palensky: 2-for-4, 3B (1), HR (8), 4 RBI, 2 RS, K Palensky launches his 20th HR combined between here and Hudson Valley. He is 10-for-34 (.294) in August and has homered in three of his last four games, driving in ten runs. 2B Max Burt: 0-for-3, BB, K 3B Eduardo Torrealba: 0-for-3, BB, 2 K
RHP Matt Sauer: 3 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 6 K, HR It just wasn’t his night. Sauer now owns a 4.19 ERA in 38.2 IP (33 H, 20 R, 18 ER, 6 HR, 17 BB, 49 K) RHP Tanner Myatt: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K RHP Jesus Liranzo: (L, 2-1) 1.1 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, HR RHP Jack Neely: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K Since promotion: 7.2 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 9 K
Hudson Valley (62-51; 23-24 in the second half) (Lost to Brooklyn, 8-7)
CF Spencer Jones: 1-for-4, 2B (28), RS, BB, K, SB (34) Last 10 games: 12-for-41 (.293; 4 doubles, 4 RBI, 8 R, 5 BB, 12 K, 8-for-8 SB). He leads the South Atlantic League in doubles and is fifth in stolen bases. RF Anthony Hall: 1-for-5, HR (1), RBI, RS Hall’s first HR since his promotion and 10th overall between here and Tampa. Since promotion: 9-for-41 with five doubles and a homer. 2B Jared Serna: 1-for-3, 2B (3), RBI, RS, BB, HBP, 2 K, SB (5) At this level: .267/.353/.333 in 51 PA (3 doubles, 3 RBI, 6 R, 4 BB, 7 K, 5-for-5 SB), Overall, Serna is hitting .281/.350/.467 in 494 PA (24 doubles, 1 triple, 19 HR, 74 RBI, 78 R, 44 BB, 82 K, 24-for-30 SB).Serna is answering every challenge thrown at him – I am not concerned by his lack of pop in his small High-A sample size. C Jesus Rodriguez: 1-for-4, BB, 2 K DH Antonio Gomez: 0-for-5, 2 K SS Ben Cowles: 1-for-3, RBI, RS, BB, K .263/.361/.416 in 379 PA. Cowles is 16-for-45 with 13 walks in August. LF Christopher Familia: 1-for-3, HR (9), 2 RBI, 2 RS, BB Familia is up to 20 HR, 54 RBI, and 51 runs scored in 54 games between here and Tampa. 1B Rafael Flores: 2-for-4, HR (5), 2 RBI, RS .269/.351/.367 in 370 PA (15 doubles, 1 triple, 5 HR, 34 RBI, 43 R, 41 BB, 92 K, 3-for-4 SB). He needed this game as he is only 9-for-55 (.164) in August 3B Marcos Cabrera: 0-for-4, 3 K
RHP Zach Messinger: 4 IP, 4 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 4 BB, 2 K, HR 4.52 ERA (87.2 IP, 77 H, 55 R, 44 ER, 13 HR, 46 BB, 103 K) RHP Anderson Munoz: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K RHP Harrison Cohen: (L, 2-2) 1.2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K RHP Shane Gray: 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K
Tampa (55-58; 24-23 in the second half) (Lost to Daytona, 11-5)
DH Roc Riggio: 1-for-3, RBI, RS, 2 BB, 2 K Riggio is hitting .200 (6-for-30) at this level with 14 walks (31.1%) and 13 strikeouts (28.9%) in 45 PA. I love small sample madness. 3B Kiko Romero: 0-for-4, RBI, BB, 3 K C Omar Martinez: 0-for-4, SF, RBI, K 1B Josh Moylan: 2-for-5, RS Moylan is holding his own in 54 plate appearances (.256/.715 OPS; 1 HR, 7 RBI, 9 R, 10 BB, 14 K). As stated previously, he was a highly sought-after non-drafted free agent. SS Brenny Escanio: 2-for-4, 3B (4), BB Escanio has a 9-game hitting streak (14-for-36). This is his first extra-base hit during the streak. CF Cole Gabrielson: 1-for-3, 2B (2), RBI, BB, 2 K Gabrielson is 6-for-29 (.207) at this level with two doubles and a triple. RF Tayler Aguilar: 0-for-3, RS, BB, K LF Daury Arias: 0-for-3, RS, BB, 2 K 2B Jose Colmenares: 0-for-3, RS, HBP

RHP Adam Stone: 0 IP, 2 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 0 K, HR RHP Nolberto Henriquez: 3 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 0 K RHP Luis Arejula: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K
FCL Yankees (32-21) (Shut down the Blue Jays, 5-0, to clinch the division. They will be one of four teams in what is a quick playoff format. The first round is only one game. The championship round is the best of 3. It starts on Thursday)
SS Keiner Delgado: 1-for-3, BB, 3 SB (34) Delgado steals three bases for the second day in a row. He is hitting .286/.408/.471 in 228 PA with a 34-for-40 stolen base rate. DH George Lombard Jr.: 1-for-3, RBI, RS, BB, K Lombard Jr. stats his career 2-for-6 with a double. LF Jackson Castillo: 1-for-4, RS, 2 K CF Willy Montero: 0-for-4, RS 1B Dylan Jasso: 0-for-3, RBI, RS, BB RF John Cruz: 0-for-2, RBI, 2 BB, SB (9) 2B Enmanuel Tejeda: 0-for-3, BB 3B Hans Montero: 1-for-2, RBI, RS, 2 BB, K, SB (16) .267/.424/.420 in 224 PA (6 doubles, 3 triples, 5 HR, 23 RBI, 39 R, 41 BB, 46 K, 16-for-16 SB). This is a legitimate bonus baby prospect who is hitting 8th in this lineup. C Edinson Duran: 0-for-4, K
RHP Carlos Lagrange: 2.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 7 K When I look at rookie league stat lines, I pay a lot more attention to recording all seven outs via strikeout than anything else. The big (6’7″) 20-year-old owns a 4.97 ERA in 41.2 IP (34 H, 25 R, 23 ER, 4 HR, 24 BB, 63 K) LHP Edwar Polimir (W, 4-0): 2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 2 K RHP Yoljeldriz Diaz: 2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K 9 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 14 K. LHP Pablo Mujica (S, 1): 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K
DSL Yankees (32-18) (Lost to DSL Orioles Black, 10-3. They are in a tie for first with DSL Colorado, though they have a better winning percentage. That is important because they don’t force games to be made up. This league plays an eight-team playoff – the six division winners + 2 wild cards)
CF Brando Mayea: 1-for-3, HR (3), RBI, RS, BB Mayea with a leadoff home run. C Josue Gonzalez: 0-for-4, K DH Santiago Gomez: 1-for-2, BB, SB (18) LF Darwin Castillo: 1-for-2, 2B (2), 2 RBI, BB, K

Yankees MILB 8/20: Austin Wells: 2 HR, 7 RBI
POSTED ON AUGUST 20, 2023 BY ADMIN News:
I have nothing important to report.
Quick commentary: Anyone who follows the minors knows that Triple-A is an offensive haven. It used to be that the PCL was crazy while the International League played more fairly. Nowadays, both leagues are offense-first (the PCL (teams average 6.26 R/G) is still the king of offense, as the International League is at 5.57). This doesn’t mean you disqualify kids just because they hit well in an offensive league. Keep it in mind when you look at boxscores, but don’t dismiss what you are looking at based on that alone.
Scranton (57-60; 23-20 in the second half) (Destroyed Worcester, 13-1)
CF Estevan Florial: 2-for-5, 2 RS, BB, 2 K .291/.385/.571 in 392 PA (16 doubles, 4 triples, 23 HR, 59 RBI, 65 R, 53 BB, 116 K (29.6%), 19-for-29 SB) SS Oswald Peraza: 3-for-5, 3 RS, BB, K, SB (16) Back-to-back 3-hit efforts (and three in the month of August) for Peraza, who is up to .268/.357/.479 in 299 PA. LF Everson Pereira: 0-for-2, 3 RS, 2 BB, HBP, K, 2 SB (4) Obviously, we love the power – but it is nice to see Pereira reach base in other ways today and use his wheels. Pereira is not likely a big stolen base guy in the majors, but he should reach double digits with a chance to reach the 20 mark. He is at .312/.386/.551 in 158 PA at this level. DH Austin Wells: 2-for-4, 2 HR (4), 7 RBI, 3 RS, BB Wells’ first career multi-HR game and he sets a new personal best for RBI in a game. Through Friday, he was hitting .244/.340/.372 at this level. Now, two days later, he is hitting .260/.351/.479 in 111 PA at this level. Overall, he has 16 homers and 70 runs batted in 88 games this season. 1B Andres Chaparro: 0-for-4, SF, RBI, K Chaparro is up to 75 RBI, giving him the organization’s lead (Jared Serna has 74) C Carlos Narvaez: 1-for-5, 2B (8), 2 RBI, K 3B Jamie Westbrook: 2-for-5, 2B (16), HR (18), 2 RBI, RS, 2 K RF Brandon Lockridge: 3-for-5, 2B (7), SB (17) Lockridge is up to 34 stolen bases in 38 attempts between here and Somerset. 2B Wilmer Difo: 1-for-5, HR (5), RBI, RS, 2 K
RHP Will Warren: (W, 5-4) 5 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 2 K At this level: 4.85 ERA (65 IP, 63 H, 45 R, 35 ER, 12 HR, 35 BB, 67 K). Warren is up to 94.1 innings this season, so he has plenty of bullets to fire (129 IP in 2022) RHP Zach Greene: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 0 K LHP Anthony Misiewicz: 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K LHP Nick Ramirez: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
Somerset (67-46; 25-19 in the second half) (Defeated Reading, 6-1)
DH Jasson Dominguez: 4-for-5, 3 2B (19), RBI, RS Dominguez, who compiles his first career 3-double game, has two 4-hit games in his last three games played. He is up to .254/.367/.414 (.781 OPS) in 507 PA (19 doubles, 2 triples, 15 HR, 66 RBI, 82 R, 77 BB (15.2%), 130 K (25.6%), 37-for-44 SB (84.1%)). It is fun to do “what has he done lately?” stats – but his full season is now speaking for itself. By the way, one way to develop your game is by playing it. Dominguez has 1,037 plate appearances over the last two seasons. Does he deserve to play in Scranton for a few weeks? I think so – maybe they will get him there before the end of August. C Agustin Ramirez: 1-for-4, 2 RBI, RS, BB, K Last 7 games: 8-for-30 (.267). That may not impress you, but he started 3-for-22 at this level. CF Elijah Dunham: 2-for-5, RBI, 2 K 3B Caleb Durbin: 2-for-3, BB, CS (4) Durbin is hitting .277 with a .765 OPS in 133 PA at this level. He has back-to-back 2-hit games. 1B Josh Breaux: 0-for-1, K RF Aaron Palensky: 1-for-4, RBI, BB, 2 K, 2 SB (11) Palensky is the first Yankees prospect to reach 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases this season. He is a double away from adding 20 doubles to that list (Jared Serna needs one home run to get himself in the 20/20/20 club) LF Jeisson Rosario: 0-for-2, BB, K SS Jesus Bastidas: 2-for-4, HR (3), RBI, RS Bastidas, who hit 18 homers for Somerset in 2022, is up to 12 between Somerset/Scranton in 2023. 1B-3B Mickey Gasper: 0-for-3, RS, BB, K 2B Max Burt: 0-for-3, RS, BB, K
RHP Blane Abeyta: (W, 8-6) 5.2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 5 K, HR 5.43 ERA (106 IP, 105 H, 66 R, 64 ER, 14 HR, 43 BB, 108 K). The 24-year-old was one of the post-draft signings after the shortened 2020 COVID draft. RHP Bailey Dees: 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K Since promotion: 10.2 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 0 HR, 6 BB, 9 K. Overall, Dees has a 68/21 K/BB ratio in 52 innings. RHP Danny Watson: 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K Since promotion: 1.48 ERA (30.1 IP, 14 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 4 HR, 15 BB, 35 K).
Hudson Valley (63-51; 24-24 in the second half) (Defeated Brooklyn, 7-1)
CF Spencer Jones: 3-for-4, HR (13), RBI, 2 RS, BB, SB (35) Jones has four 3-hit games this month and 14 3+ hit games this season. Believe it or not, this was his first home run since July 19th. He is hitting .268/.339/.456 in 447 PA (28 doubles, 4 triples, 13 HR, 55 RBI, 61 R, 42 BB, 131 K (29.3%), 35-for-43 SB) SS Alexander Vargas: 1-for-4, SF, RBI, RS, K .213/.255/.359 in 388 PA (14 doubles, 6 triples, 9 HR, 50 RBI, 49 R, 21 BB, 100 K (25.8%), 13-for-19 SB). There is some improvement here over his time in Tampa in 2022 but he has yet to really put the entire package together. 1B Jesus Rodriguez: 2-for-4, 2B (2), RBI, RS, BB, K Since promotion: .389 (14-for-36; 2 doubles, HR, 8 RBI, 6 R, 8 BB, 8 K). He continues to lead the organization in batting average (amongst qualifiers in the full-season leagues) at .307/.393/.437. DH Christopher Familia: 1-for-4, 2 RBI, BB, K The ultra-productive Familia has 56 RBI in 55 games between here and Tampa. 3B Ben Cowles: 1-for-4, RS, BB, K, 3 SB (20) Cowles is now 17-for-49 in August (4 doubles, 1 triple, 1 HR, 7 RBI, 11 R, 14 BB, 14 K, 7-for-9 SB) C Rafael Flores: 1-for-5, K RF Grant Richardson: 1-for-5, RBI, 3 K, 2 SB (14) LF Jared Wegner: 1-for-4, HR (1), RBI, RS, K Wegner’s first HR since his promotion. He is the first 2023 draftee to make it this high up for the Yankees, and it makes sense as he is 24 years old. 2B Luis Santos: 0-for-3, RS, BB, K
RHP Brendan Beck: 4.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 6 K, HR While unimportant, Beck was an out away from his first professional win. He is simply on a strict pitch count, coming off of injury. At this level: 1.74 ERA (31 IP, 24 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 2 HR, 7 BB, 35 K). Will they allow the 24-year-old to get his feet wet in Double-A? LHP Clay Aguilar: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K 3.03 ERA (32.2 IP, 27 H, 13 R, 11 ER, 16 BB, 47 K) RHP Luis Velasquez: (W, 3-1) 2.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K Since promotion: 2.05 ERA (30.2 IP, 18 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 1 HR, 18 BB, 34 K) RHP Cole Ayers: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K Since promotion: 10.1 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 1 HR, 3 BB, 9 K
Tampa (55-59; 24-24 in the second half) (Lost to Daytona, 3-0)
2B Roc Riggio: 1-for-3, BB, K, CS (1) At this level: 7-for-33 with 15 walks and 14 strikeouts. Watch Riggio closely as he has “fast rise” potential in 2024. 3B Kiko Romero: 0-for-4, 3 K 11-for-56 (.196) with 13 walks and 24 strikeouts. DH Omar Martinez: 0-for-4, 2 K .261/.373/.472 in 383 PA (15 doubles, 1 triple, 17 HR, 64 RBI, 58 R, 56 BB (14.6%), 100 K (26.1%), 8-for-9 SB) SS Brenny Escanio: 0-for-4, K CF Cole Gabrielson: 0-for-4, K RF Garrett Martin: 0-for-3, BB, 2 K 8-for-42 (.190) with seven walks and 16 strikeouts. 1B Beau Brewer: 1-for-2, BB Brewer has a 5-game hitting streak and is 16-for-39 with 12 walks in August. LF Daury Arias: 0-for-2, HBP, K C Manuel Palencia: 0-for-2, BB
RHP Yorlin Calderon: 3.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K 3.29 ERA (68.1 IP, 63 H, 28 R, 25 ER, 5 HR, 23 BB, 86 K). He has likely done enough overall to earn a chance in Hudson Valley, but if the goal was to start stretching him out (this was his second straight start), doing so in Tampa is fine. RHP Ocean Gabonia: 2.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K 5.52 ERA (44 IP, 43 H, 33 R, 27 ER, 24 BB, 40 K). Gabonia is 22, but this is his first healthy season. RHP Montana Semmel (L, 2-1): 1.2 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 0 K, HR RHP Alex Bustamante: 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K

Yankees MILB 8/21: Promotions!
POSTED ON AUGUST 21, 2023 BY ADMIN News:
The Yankees have promoted top prospect Jasson Dominguez from Somerset to Scranton for the final month of the season. Remember that the Yankees did the same with Anthony Volpe last season and he took over the shortstop role for the big club in 2023. Can Dominguez make a similar jump? I wouldn’t rule it out. With Harrison Bader a free agent and left field still in shambles (more on that in a second), there can be a path for Dominguez.
Dominguez, who was hitting .198/.341/.343 after games of July 6th, has certainly turned it on since. He is hitting .350/.415/.535 (159 wRC+) in 36 games (176 plate appearances) since that date with a 10.2% BB and 19.9% K. He was first in the Eastern League in runs (83), fourth in RBI (66), third in stolen bases (37), and sixth in BB% (15.2%). The International League is known for its offense, but there could still be an adjustment period for Dominguez. He will be the second 20-year-old to make his debut in the International League this season, joining Tampa prospect Carson Williams. Williams joined the league on August 15th.
Speaking of the left field position, there is another candidate who is going to try to take the job. The Yankees have called up OF Everson Pereira from Triple-A Scranton. The 22-year-old has split time between Somerset and Scranton this season, hitting .300/.373/.548 in 343 plate appearances. Pereira’s BB% is OK (9.3%), but it is the K% we will need to watch. He has a 28.6% rate in 2023 and it has been an issue his entire minor league career. He is aggressive with a lot of power to tap into. I wouldn’t expect that to translate into a .300 hitter in MLB, but he has the bat speed and power to hit 25+ homers. Don’t be surprised if MLB pitchers feed him a steady stream of curves and sliders to see if they can take advantage of his aggressiveness.
Both of these moves make sense. Pereira deserves a chance to get accustomed to MLB pitching, and Dominguez has demonstrated that Double-A pitching is no longer giving him enough of a challenge.
In addition, the Yankees are bringing back IF Oswald Peraza. Everyone who is reading this knows his story so I don’t need to discuss it too much. I thought he was ready in 2022, and he did nothing to disprove that last September. He hasn’t performed at a high level in MLB in 2023, but it is time for him to get a consistent look.
As for others who may appear in 2023, it is hard to say. This is a year where the Yankees probably wish that rosters could expand to more than 28. C Austin Wells will be a talked-about name but I don’t think it is criminal if he sticks in Triple-A. They would need to find a 40-man slot for him, but they need to do that this winter anyway.
Scranton (57-60; 23-20 in the second half)
Day off. The Railriders have a hill to climb if they wish to make the playoffs. They are only four games behind Lehigh Valley for the second-half title, but there are four other teams ahead of them.
Somerset (67-46; 25-20 in the second half)
Day off. Somerset is already in the playoffs, courtesy of their first-half title. That said, the Patriots are in first place in the second half as well. If they pull off the Daily Double, the playoff berth will go to whoever comes in second place in the second half.
Hudson Valley (63-51; 24-24 in the second half)
Day off. Hudson Valley is already in the playoffs, courtesy of their first-half title.
Tampa (55-59; 24-24 in the second half)
Day off. Tampa isn’t going to make the playoffs in 2023, as they are seven games out of first place in the second half.
FCL Yankees (35-21) (Defeated the Blue Jays, 11-9)
2B Keiner Delgado: 3-for-5, HR (8), 2 RBI, 2 RS, BB, K, 2 SB (36), CS (7) The FCL ends this week, so we’ll see if they send Delgado to Tampa after that. He is hitting .294/.415/.490 in 234 PA with 35 walks, 30 strikeouts, and a 36-for-43 stolen base rate. He has 14 stolen bases in August. SS George Lombard Jr.: 2-for-4, RS, BB, 2 SB (2) Lombard is 4-for-8 with a pair of stolen bases and four walks. I tend to doubt they will send him to Tampa after this week. RF Willy Montero: 1-for-3, SF, RBI, 2 RS, BB, K 1B Dylan Jasso: 2-for-5, 3B (1), HR (1), 3 RBI, 2 RS .357/.478/.571 in 69 plate appearances for the 20-year-old. The undrafted free agent is another candidate for Tampa. LF John Cruz: 4-for-5, 2B (6), RBI Cruz is on the list of prospects that had little hype entering the season and put himself squarely on the prospect map. He is hitting .297/.381/.541 in 197 PA with ten home runs and 47 runs batted in. He will be 18 on August 29th and could debut in Tampa at that age in 2024. DH Enmanuel Tejeda: 0-for-4, BB, 2 K 3B Hans Montero: 0-for-2, 2 RS, 3 BB, CS (1) Montero is a bonus baby who is being asked to hit 8th. That is how insanely deep this roster is. He is hitting .264/.428/.416 in 229 plate appearances.
RHP Chalniel Arias: 3.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K Since his promotion: 8.2 IP, 8 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 8 BB, 7 K RHP Kris Bow (W, 1-0): 1.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K
DSL Yankees (33-19) (Split two games with the DSL Marlins)
Game 1 (Lost, 5-3)
CF Brando Mayea: 3-for-3, RS, BB, SB (22), CS (7) .276/.382/.400 in 170 PA with 22 walks and 27 strikeouts. He has a pair of 3-hit games this month. C Josue Gonzalez: 0-for-2, BB .324/.517/.529 in 147 PA with 38 walks and 21 strikeouts. 3B Santiago Gomez: 0-for-1, RS, 2 BB, 2 SB (20) The 19-year-old is hitting .284/.467/.403 in 184 PA (31 BB, 33 K, 20-for-23 SB) SS Luis Suarez: 0-for-2, BB, K, SB (22)
RHP Orvis Fernandez: 3.2 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K
Game 2 (Won, 4-1)
SS Luis Suarez: 1-for-3, 3B (4), RS, 2 K .212/.333/.342 in 174 PA (5 doubles, 4 triples, 2 HR, 25 RBI, 31 R, 21 BB, 51 K, 22-for-24 SB) C Edison Vivas: 2-for-3, 2B (2), RBI, RS .219/.318/.247 in 85 PA. He is 9-for-28 in August. 3B Anthony Pena: 0-for-1, RS, 2 BB, SB (5) .247/.344/.383 in 93 PA. He has five doubles and a pair of home runs.
RHP Christian Zazueta: 4.1 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K 3.29 ERA (52 IP, 41 H, 21 R, 19 ER, 6 HR, 16 BB, 50 K). A solid year for the 18-year-old. RHP Keninson Diaz (W, 5-0): 2.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K
DSL Bombers (27-26) (Squeaked past the Twins, 8-7)
2B Gabriel Terrero: 1-for-3, 2B (9), RBI, 2 RS, BB, K, CS (6) .299/.407/.533 in 162 PA (9 doubles, 1 triple, 7 HR, 27 RBI, 33 R, 22 BB, 35 K, 14-for-20 SB) C Edgleen Perez: 2-for-4, 2B (8), RS, K, 2 SB (5) 3B Kevin Verde: 2-for-4, 2B (9), HR (4), 4 RBI, 2 RS, K .258/.316/.433 in 133 PA for the 17-year-old. This is Verde’s debut season and he is certainly holding his own. RF Ramiro Altagracia: 2-for-4, RS, K
RHP Sunayro Martina: 3 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 2 K 3.86 ERA (28 IP, 19 H, 21 R, 12 ER, 1 HR, 23 BB, 34 K). This is a fairly typical DSL line.

Yankees MILB 8/22: Jasson Dominguez Crushes His Triple-A Debut
POSTED ON AUGUST 22, 2023 BY ADMIN News:
Nothing new.
Scranton (58-60; 24-20 in the second half) (Destroyed Lehigh Valley, 14-1)
This is a big series against Lehigh Valley, the team they are chasing for the second-half title. It is a logjam, however, as four teams are between Lehigh Valley and Scranton in the standings.
LF Estevan Florial: 1-for-4, 2B (17), 3 RBI, RS, 2 BB, 2 K Florial is at .291 with 17 doubles, 4 triples, 23 HR, 62 RBI, and 66 runs scored. CF Jasson Dominguez: 3-for-6, 2B (1), 3 RBI, RS, CS (1) Dominguez hit balls 109.2, 107.4, and 103.9 MPH in his Triple-A debut. C Austin Wells: 0-for-4, HBP, 2 K 3B Andres Chaparro: 2-for-4, 2 RS, BB DH Franchy Cordero: 2-for-4, 2B (12), RBI, 3 RS, BB 2B Jamie Westbrook: 3-for-4, 2 RBI, 2 RS, BB 1B Jake Lamb: 2-for-4, HR (3), 3 RBI, 2 RS, BB RF Brandon Lockridge: 2-for-4, RBI, 2 RS, BB Lockridge is hitting .303 at this level in 46 games. SS Wilmer Difo: 0-for-3, RS, 2 BB, K
RHP Clayton Beeter: 4.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 5 BB, 8 K At this level: 5.85 ERA (40 IP, 38 H, 27 R, 26 ER, 10 HR, 24 BB, 50 K). Overall Beeter has 126 strikeouts in 100.2 innings. LHP Josh Maciejewski: (W, 3-0) 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K Maciejewski entered the game with the bases loaded and one out. He allowed only one of the runners to score. RHP Zac Houston: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K RHP Aaron McGarity: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K
Somerset (68-46; 26-20 in the second half) (Walked it off against Hartford, 4-1, in ten innings)
2B Caleb Durbin: 1-for-4 2B Eduardo Torrealba: 0-for-1 C Ben Rice: 2-for-4, HR (10), 4 RBI, RS Walk-off grand slam! Rice is hitting .324 since his promotion with ten home runs and 33 RBI in 27 games. Overall, Rice has 14 homers and 53 RBI in 52 games. His bat has been off-the-charts awesome this year. I can only imagine where he would be if he didn’t have a long-term injury. DH Agustin Ramirez: 0-for-3, BB CF Elijah Dunham: 0-for-4, K LF Aaron Palensky: 0-for-3, HBP, K RF Jeisson Rosario: 1-for-3, RS, BB, K SS Jesus Bastidas: 1-for-3, 2B (3), RS, BB 1B Mickey Gasper: 0-for-3, RS, BB 3B Max Burt: 1-for-4, K
RHP Chase Hampton: 5 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K Since promotion: 4.37 ERA (59.2 IP, 54 H, 33 R, 29 ER, 8 HR, 21 BB, 68 K). Overall, Hampton has a 145/37 K/BB in 106.2 innings. RHP Tanner Myatt: 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K RHP Jack Neely: (W, 1-1) 3 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 4 K Forget about that run, as it was the ghost runner. Since promotion: 2.53 ERA (10.2 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 13 K). Overall, Neely owns an 87/19 K/BB over 59.1 innings.
Hudson Valley (63-52; 24-25 in the second half) (Lost to Aberdeen, 3-1)
CF Spencer Jones: 1-for-4, RBI .268/.339/.454 in 451 PA (28 doubles, 4 triples, 13 HR, 56 RBI, 61 R, 42 BB (9.3%), 131 K (29.0%), 35-for-43 SB). I am being truthful when I say I didn’t expect him to do much more than this. I think his season has been a successful one. RF Anthony Hall: 0-for-4, 2 K Hall is 9-for-45 (.200) since his promotion. 2B Jared Serna: 1-for-4 Serna is 13-for-49 (.265) since his promotion with three doubles, four walks, and only seven strikeouts (12.7%). LF Jesus Rodriguez: 0-for-4, K SS Alexander Vargas: 0-for-4, K C Antonio Gomez: 0-for-3 3B Ben Cowles: 0-for-2, BB, K DH Christopher Familia: 1-for-2, RS, BB Since promotion: .259/.342/.489 in 152 PA. He started 3-for-22 at this level. 1B Rafael Flores: 0-for-2, BB, K
RHP Baron Stuart: (L, 2-2) 6 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 6 K This is a hard-luck loss. At this level: 3.52 ERA (23 IP, 18 H, 9 R, 9 ER, 2 HR, 13 BB, 15 K) RHP Mason Vinyard: 1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 1 K RHP Shane Gray: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K
Tampa (55-60; 24-25 in the second half) (Lost to Palm Beach, 8-4)
SS Roc Riggio: 1-for-4, 2 RS, BB 8-for-37 with 16 walks (nice) and 14 strikeouts. He has eight runs scored. 1B Kiko Romero: 2-for-5, 2B (3), RS, 2 K 13-for-61 with three doubles and 13 walks. C Omar Martinez: 2-for-4, 2B (16), 2 RBI, RS, BB .264/.376/.475 in 388 PA with 17 homers and 66 RBI. We’ll see if they give him some High-A time. DH Josh Moylan: 3-for-5, RBI .292/.407/.354 in 59 PA. This is his first career 3-hit game. CF Cole Gabrielson: 1-for-5, RBI, 3 K LF Tayler Aguilar: 0-for-3, BB, K RF Garrett Martin: 0-for-3, BB, 2 K 3B Jose Colmenares: 0-for-4, K 2B Beau Brewer: 2-for-4 Brewer has a 6-game hitting streak and is 18-for-43 (.419) in August.
RHP Cam Schlittler: (L, 0-1) 4 IP, 6 H, 6 R, 5 ER, HR, 0 BB, 7 K A mixed bag, but when you are dealing with a young pitcher in his debut season, it is important to see the positives. In this case, 7 strikeouts and no walks in four innings is a positive! RHP Matt Keating: 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K 3.47 ERA (57 IP, 54 H, 28 R, 22 ER, 5 HR, 30 BB, 83 K). He is certainly getting a lot of work in this season. LHP Geoffrey Gilbert: 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 2 K RHP Osiel Rodriguez: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K Since promotion: 13.1 IP, 8 H, 8 R, 8 ER, 2 HR, 12 BB, 18 K. He allowed four of those runs (without recording an out) in one of his outings.
FCL Yankees (35-22) (Lost the season finale to the Tigers, 7-6. They are in the playoffs, which start on Thursday and continue into the weekend. If anyone is going to be promoted, it would happen next week)
SS Keiner Delgado: 1-for-4, RS, BB, K .293/.414/.485 in 239 PA with eight home runs and 36 stolen bases. Last year, in the DSL, he hit .310/.504/.506 in 238 PA with three home runs and 34 stolen bases. You can’t complain about either season and I hope they give him a taste of Low-A to close out the season. DH George Lombard Jr.: 1-for-4, RBI, RS, BB, K, SB (3) Lombard (5-for-12, 5 BB, 2 K) hit safely in all four of his games. LF Jackson Castillo: 1-for-3, 2 RS, 2 BB, K, SB (1) Castillo’s first career SB. He is 8-for-29 (11 walks, 10 strikeouts) in nine games 1B Dylan Jasso: 3-for-5, 4 RBI .377/.486/.574 (23-for-61, 7 doubles, 1 HR, 20 RBI, 15 R, 11 BB, 5 K). The 20-year-old definitely earned a chance to move up to Tampa. RF John Cruz: 1-for-5, K, CS (4) .294/.376/.531 in 202 PA (6 doubles, 3 triples, 10 HR, 47 RBI, 28 R, 22 BB, 44 K, 9-for-13 SB). Cruz is only 17 (18 on 8/29) so I don’t know if they will move him to Tampa. 3B Enmanuel Tejeda: 3-for-4, RBI, BB, SB (24) .307/.465/.458 in 217 PA (4 doubles, 3 triples, 5 HR, 30 RBI, 37 R, 44 BB, 44 K, 24-for-30 SB). While Delgado is 19, Tejeda is 18. I have no problem moving any prospect up to Tampa if they have earned it, regardless of age. 3B Hans Montero: 0-for-5, 2 K, SB (17) .257/.419/.404 in 234 PA (6 doubles, 3 triples, 5 HR, 23 RBI, 41 R, 44 BB, 48 K, 17-for-18 SB). The bonus baby from a few years ago started hot in 2023 but cooled off. The overall stat line is solid and encouraging, however. CF Wilson Rodriguez: 0-for-2, RS, BB, 2 K .220/.360/.439 (9-for-41, 3 doubles, 2 HR, 11 RBI, 5 R, 8 BB, 13 K). The left-handed bat is 18, drafted in the 17th round in this year’s draft. There is no chance they are sending him to Tampa – this season was all about getting his feet wet. C Peter Serruto: 0-for-2 The Yankees signed the 23-year-old Indiana graduate (he also went to Rutgers) on August 2nd. This is his debut. PH-C Diomedes Hernandez: 0-for-0, RS, 2 BB The 18-year-old didn’t play much in 2023 (3 games; 1-for-5).
LHP Edwar Polimir (L, 4-1): 1.1 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 0 K, HR RHP Yoljeldriz Diaz: 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 3 K 10.1 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 6 BB, 17 K. Diaz is 22 and has been in the system since 2019. That said, he has barely pitched (this was only his 26th career game) LHP Pablo Mujica: 1.2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 1 K RHP Sebastian Keane: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 1 K 1.71 ERA (26.1 IP, 11 H, 7 R, 5 ER, 1 HR, 16 BB, 35 K). The 22-year-old predictably pitched well here and should make his way to Tampa. LHP Miguel Pozo: 1.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
DSL Yankees (33-19)
Their game against Mets Orange was canceled due to a tropical storm. The game won’t be made up, and their season is over. They missed out on the division title by 0.5 games and a wild-card spot by one game in the loss column.
DSL Bombers (27-26)
Their game against the DSL Marlins was canceled due to a tropical storm. The game won’t be made up, and their season is over.

Yankees MILB 8/23: Ben Rice Homers Again
POSTED ON AUGUST 23, 2023 BY ADMIN News:
Nothing new.
Scranton (59-61; 25-21 in the second half) (Split a doubleheader against Lehigh Valley)
This is a big series against Lehigh Valley, the team they are chasing for the second-half title. It is a logjam, however, as four teams are between Lehigh Valley and Scranton in the standings.
Game 1 (Won, 4-3, in eight innings)
CF Estevan Florial: 1-for-3, 2B (18), RBI, RS, BB, K DH Austin Wells: 2-for-4, 2 RS, CS (1) Wells’ first career caught stealing (he is now 39-for-40 stealing bases) 1B Andres Chaparro: 1-for-2, RBI, 2 BB, K RF Franchy Cordero: 1-for-2, RBI, BB, HBP C Carlos Narvaez: 1-for-4, RBI Narvaez walks it off with an RBI single in the 8th. 3B Mike Lamb: 2-for-3, RS 2B Jamie Westbrook: 0-for-1, 2 HBP LF Brandon Lockridge: 0-for-1, BB, SAC SS Wilmer Difo: 0-for-2 PH Jasson Dominguez: 0-for-0, BB (intentional) SS Jesus Bastidas: 0-for-0
RHP Mitch Spence: 7 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 10 K 4.59 ERA (133.1 IP, 131 H, 75 R, 68 ER, 24 HR, 44 BB, 125 K). August: 25.2 IP, 19 H, 8 R, 8 ER, 2 HR, 6 BB, 33 K. This is Spence’s first career 10+ strikeout effort. LHP Anthony Misiewicz (W, 2-0): 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
Game 2 (Lost, 6-0)
LF Estevan Florial: 0-for-3, 2 K CF Jasson Dominguez: 0-for-2, BB Dominguez has 79 walks in 517 plate appearances (15.3%). DH Austin Wells: 1-for-3 There is talk that Wells could be promoted to the big club. He has multiple hits in three of his last five games and is 20-for-77 (.260) in August with seven doubles, four homers, and 17 runs batted in. 1B Andres Chaparro: 0-for-3, K .246/.340/.467 in 483 PA (19 doubles, 2 triples, 23 HR, 76 RBI, 70 R, 59 BB, 104 K, 3-for-3 SB). Chaparro’s first season in the organization was back in 2016, so I believe he could be staring at minor league free agency this winter. Just like with the Rule 5, the Yankees can “block” that free agency by adding him to the 40-man roster. For example, they did that a few years ago with Donny Sands before they traded him to the Phillies. C Rodolfo Duran: 0-for-3 3B Jake Lamb: 0-for-3, K 2B Jamie Westbrook: 0-for-3 RF Michael Hermosillo: 2-for-2, SB (7) SS Jesus Bastidas: 0-for-1, HBP, SB (7) Bastidas was called back up here for today’s doubleheader.
RHP Zach McAllister: (L, 1-1) 1.2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, HR McAllister’s first start as a member of the Yankees’ organization since August 17th, 2010. RHP Matt Bowman: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K RHP Ron Marinaccio: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K LHP Matt Krook: 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K Krook, who has a 1.04 ERA in 26 innings at this level, makes his first appearance since July 18th. LHP Nick Ramirez: 1.2 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, HR RHP Wilmer Difo: 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K Difo, a utility infielder, with his 4th pitching appearance this season (3.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 2 K)
Somerset (68-47; 26-21 in the second half) (Lost to Hartford, 3-2)
3B Caleb Durbin: 1-for-4, 2 SB (17) Durbin has 32 stolen bases (37 attempts) in 57 games between here and Hudson Valley. He is hitting .298/.395/.400 in 238 PA with 24 walks (10.1%) and 16 strikeouts (6.7%). 1B Ben Rice: 1-for-4, HR (11), RBI, RS Rice has 11 home runs in 28 games at this level. Overall, he is hitting .319/.441/.623 in 236 PA (11 doubles, 1 triple, 15 HR, 54 RBI, 44 R, 34 BB (14.4%), 42 K (17.8%), 8-for-9 SB). Rice is 24 and you wonder just how much more development he needs. C Agustin Ramirez: 1-for-4, RS Since promotion: 12-for-59 (1 double, 1 HR, 5 RBI, 9 R, 5 BB, 11 K) LF Elijah Dunham: 1-for-3, BB, 2 K, SB (15) Dunham has 28 stolen bases in 35 attempts between here and Scranton. DH Josh Breaux: 1-for-4, RBI, K 2B Anthony Seigler: 0-for-4, K CF Jeisson Rosario: 0-for-2, BB, K RF Grant Richardson: 0-for-3, 2 K Richardson’s Double-A debut. I am not sure if this is permanent or a “we need a body” situation. Anyway, he hit .204/.306/.389 in 304 PA for Hudson Valley (13 HR, 37 RBI). He was 10-for-33 in August with three homers and seven runs batted in. SS Max Burt: 0-for-2, BB, K
RHP Yoendrys Gomez: 5.2 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 5 K The oft-injured Gomez with his longest outing since August 22, 2019. He owns a 3.14 ERA in 48.2 IP (34 H, 19 R, 17 ER, 5 HR, 25 BB, 56 K). We have seen extra option years handed out in the past. If Gomez doesn’t qualify, this is his final option year, so a very interesting winter/spring is shaping up for him. RHP Carlos Gomez: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K LHP Ryan Anderson: (L, 1-1) 1.1 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K RHP Danny Watson: 0.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K Watson allowed Anderson’s run to score in the 9th. Given his season, I think we can let this one go!
Hudson Valley (64-52; 25-25 in the second half) (Defeated Aberdeen, 3-2)
CF Spencer Jones: 1-for-4, RS, K August: 19-for-74 (.257) with four doubles, a home run, and 12 runs scored. DH Anthony Hall: 0-for-4, 4 K SS Jared Serna: 1-for-2, 3B (1), SF, RBI, RS, BB, CS (1) At this level: 14-for-51 (.275/.356/.373; 3 doubles, 1 triple). Serna has hit safely in four straight games. 1B Jesus Rodriguez: 3-for-4, 2B (3), 2 RBI Rodriguez with the walk-off single in the bottom of the 9th. At this level: 17-for-44 (.386/.491/.523; 3 doubles, 1 HR, 10 RBI, 6 R, 8 BB, 9 K). He has three 3-hit games since his promotion. 2B Alexander Vargas: 0-for-3, 2 K 3B Ben Cowles: 2-for-3, CS (4) August: 19-for-54 (.352) with 15 walks and 15 strikeouts. C Rafael Flores: 0-for-3, 2 K LF Christopher Familia: 0-for-3, K RF Jared Wegner: 0-for-2, RS, BB, 2 K
RHP Justin Lange: 4 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 5 K Lange’s second start since his promotion (5.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 8 K in his first start). Lange has a 128/59 K/BB over 82.1 innings between here and Tampa. LHP Clay Aguilar: 2.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K 2.80 ERA (35.1 IP, 27 H, 13 R, 11 ER, 2 HR, 17 BB, 52 K). Aguilar is 24 and was signed as an undrafted free agent after the shortened 2020 COVID draft. RHP Anderson Munoz: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K The 25-year-old puts together an impressive night. I guess his rehab is over as he is now listed as active. While he didn’t pitch well during his stint in Tampa, he has tossed 3.1 hitless innings here with a 7/0 K/BB. RHP Harrison Cohen (W, 3-2): 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K At this level: 3.79 ERA (38 IP, 29 H, 17 R, 16 ER, 4 HR, 17 BB, 48 K)
Tampa (56-60; 25-25 in the second half) (Defeated Palm Beach, 4-1)
2B Roc Riggio: 1-for-4, RBI, 2 RS, K, SB (2) .220/.692 OPS (12-for-57; 12 runs scored) 1B Kiko Romero: 1-for-3, RBI C Omar Martinez: 0-for-1, SF, RBI, BB SS Brenny Escanio: 0-for-3, RBI, K CF Cole Gabrielson: 0-for-3, 2 K LF Tayler Aguilar: 1-for-3, K RF Daury Arias: 0-for-1, RS, 2 BB DH Jose Colmenares: 1-for-3, 2 K 3B Beau Brewer: 0-for-3, RS
RHP Hayden Merda: 4.1 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 6 K 6.32 ERA (94 IP, 100 H, 74 R, 66 ER, 10 HR, 53 BB, 94 K) RHP Nolberto Henriquez: (W, 1-0) 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K RHP Luis Arejula (S, 1): 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
FCL Yankees (35-22)
The playoffs begin on Thursday. As I suspected, they will play the Pirates in the semifinals, which is only one game.
DSL Yankees (33-19)
Their season is over, as they missed the playoffs by a half-game.
DSL Bombers (27-26)
Their season is over.

Yankees MILB 8/24: Richard Fitts Tosses 6 Scoreless Innings
POSTED ON AUGUST 24, 2023 BY ADMIN News:
Nothing new.
Scranton (59-61; 25-21 in the second half)
The game against Lehigh Valley was postponed due to wet grounds.
This is a big series against Lehigh Valley, the team they are chasing for the second-half title. They are currently 3.5 games behind both Lehigh Valley and Worcester. Durham (0.5 games back), Buffalo (3 games back), and Jacksonville (3 games back) are also ahead of Scranton.
LF Estevan Florial: 0-for-0 .289/.385/.566 (131 wRC+) in 343 PA. Florial is staring at minor league free agency this winter. The Yankees can definitely add him to the 40-man early in the offseason and look to deal him rather than lose him for nothing. Either way, it has been quite a journey for the kid. You may not love him as a prospect, but I will maintain that he deserves a chance. CF Jasson Dominguez: 0-for-0 Dominguez is 20 – and a young 20 as he won’t turn 21 until February. This is an unusual year with the big club so anything can happen – but I would still be surprised to see him make his MLB debut. One thing Dominguez can do is put together a strong 2-3 weeks and make the Yankees think about it. C Austin Wells: 0-for-0 Wells is hitting .262/.350/.458 (100 wRC+) at this level. The fact he has a .808 OPS and a 100 wRC+ tells you what you need to know about the souped-up conditions in Triple-A. There is nothing Wells can do about that – he just has to keep on hitting. DH Andres Chaparro: 0-for-0 RF Franchy Cordero: 0-for-0 1B Carlos Narvaez: 0-for-0 3B Jake Lamb: 0-for-0 2B Jamie Westbrook: 0-for-0 SS Wilmer Difo: 0-for-0
RHP Randy Vasquez: 0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K Personally, I give Vasquez the ball in the majors every five days and see what happens. The Yankees would rather not do that for their own reasons, so I guess I have to accept that.
Somerset (69-47; 27-21 in the second half) (Defeated Hartford, 2-1)
C Ben Rice: 0-for-4, K No home run tonight? Disappointing (yes, I am kidding – sheesh) DH Agustin Ramirez: 0-for-4, K If you read this space enough, you already know that I am not concerned at all about Ramirez struggling here. They have been aggressive with him in his first taste of full-season ball and perhaps he has run into a wall. Or, maybe he has a hot month coming up to close the season. Who knows? The kid is a 21-year-old catcher – these types don’t typically fly through the minors like this. PATIENCE! LF Elijah Dunham: 2-for-3, HR (9), RBI, RS, BB, SB (16) His home run to lead off the 9th inning tied the game. Between here and Scranton, Dunham has 21 doubles, 15 homers, and 28 stolen bases. 2B Anthony Seigler: 0-for-3, RS, BB, K RF Aaron Palensky: 1-for-3, BB, 2 K 1B Mickey Gasper: 1-for-3, BB, K CF Jeisson Rosario: 1-for-3, RBI, K Walk-off RBI single in the 9th. SS Max Burt: 1-for-2 3B Eduardo Torrealba: 0-for-2
RHP Richard Fitts: 6 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K (101 pitches) Fitts is a bulldog. His ERA falls to 3.16 in 131 IP (110 H, 47 R, 46 ER, 18 HR, 34 BB, 139 K). His August line is insane: 24.1 IP, 14 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 8 BB, 21 K. He goes deep into most games, so it is also impressive that he hasn’t allowed more than three runs in a game since May 10th. After that game ended, his ERA was 6.07. A remarkable year for someone I think can be an innings-eating #3-#4 guy in MLB. The issue you hear about is that his command sometimes fails him inside the strike zone. That can certainly be developed. RHP Jesus Liranzo: 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 K RHP Bailey Dees: (W, 1-1) 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K Since promotion: 11.2 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 6 BB, 12 K. Overall, he owns a 71/21 K/BB over 53 innings pitched. When I say that the Yankees can afford to trade a few of their MLB relievers, it is because of relievers like Dees, Danny Watson, and Jack Neely at this level + several others at other levels. They have a pipeline of potential.
Hudson Valley (64-53; 25-26 in the second half) (Lost to Aberdeen, 2-1)
CF Spencer Jones: 1-for-4, K, CS (9) Jones increases his hitting streak to five (7-for-20). RF Anthony Hall: 0-for-3, BB, K 2B Jared Serna: 1-for-4 Overall, between here and Tampa, he is at .281/.350/.468 in 506 plate appearances. The power hasn’t shown up yet at this level, but I think it will. C Jesus Rodriguez: 0-for-4, K SS Alexander Vargas: 2-for-4, 2B (15), RS DH Antonio Gomez: 1-for-4, 2B (16), RBI, SB (1) Gomez stole five bases in 2021, but that has been the extent of his base-stealing prowess. Before all these other catchers started emerging, Gomez looked like the future guy. Defensively, he may still grade better than most of them. 3B Ben Cowles: 0-for-2, BB, 2 K Cowles has a 36-game on-base streak (thanks to the Hudson Valley Renegades official Twitter account – I hadn’t picked up on this). 1B Rafael Flores: 1-for-3, K LF Jared Wegner: 0-for-3, K
LHP Brock Selvidge: (L, 2-1) 6.1 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 6 K, HR Between here and Tampa: 3.49 ERA in 111 IP (100 H, 49 R, 43 ER, 5 HR, 30 BB, 125 K). In 2022, Selvidge walked 3.59 hitters per nine innings. This season, the number is 2.43. Major improvement there. Furthermore, he has allowed only seven home runs in 157.1 career innings. That number could go up as he moves up the chain, but it is encouraging. Oh, and he is only 20 (21 in four days) RHP Cole Ayers: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K RHP Luis Velasquez: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K Since promotion: 1.99 ERA (31.2 IP, 18 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 1 HR, 18 BB, 36 K).
Tampa (57-60; 26-25 in the second half) (Defeated Palm Beach, 8-7, in ten innings)
SS Brenny Escanio: 1-for-5 Roc Riggio was in the original lineup but was pulled late. Hopefully, it is something minor in nature. 3B Kiko Romero: 0-for-5, 3 K DH Omar Martinez: 1-for-4, 2 RBI, 2 RS, BB .263/.376/.471 in 396 PA with 17 homers and 69 RBI. Martinez has done enough to earn a promotion and maybe he’ll get some time up in Hudson Valley in September/playoffs. 1B Josh Moylan: 1-for-3, RS, 2 BB .294/.422/.353 in 64 PA (12 walks, 14 K). Moylan is doing what you want to see college bats do in their first taste of professional ball. CF Cole Gabrielson: 1-for-3, RBI, RS, BB, HBP, K, SB (2) RF Garrett Martin: 1-for-5, RBI, 2 K LF Tayler Aguilar: 0-for-5, 2 K 2B Jose Colmenares: 1-for-3, 2 RS, HBP C Manuel Palencia: 2-for-4, 2 RS I said a few weeks ago that I don’t know much about him, and that hasn’t changed. That said, he is 9-for-22 at this level with only one strikeout. He is still looking for his first extra-base hit. Maybe I should do some reading…
RHP Sean Hermann: 5.2 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 6 K Between here and Hudson Valley: 5.29 ERA (98.2 IP, 110 H, 68 R, 58 ER, 9 HR, 44 BB, 83 K). Hermann is even younger than Selvidge (won’t be 21 until next June), so keep that in mind. RHP Alex Bustamante: 0.1 IP, 2 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 0 K RHP Ocean Gabonia: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K RHP Adam Stone: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K RHP Montana Semmel: (W, 3-1) 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K At this level: 15 IP, 18 H, 12 R, 8 ER, 3 HR, 4 BB, 15 K
FCL Yankees (35-22; 1-0 in the playoffs) (Defeated the Pirates, 7-6, in a sudden death game. They move on to meet the Braves in a 3-game series for the championship. The Yankees are defending their title from 2022)
2B Keiner Delgado: 2-for-4, 2B (1), RBI, RS, BB, K Delgado hit 12 doubles in 49 games during the regular season. I would be stunned if he doesn’t get to Tampa next week. SS George Lombard Jr.: 1-for-4, RBI, 2 RS, BB, K No complaints about his small sample size. 1B Dylan Jasso: 1-for-5, HR (1), 2 RBI, RS, 2 K Jasso’s 2-out, 2-run HR in the bottom of the 6th turned a 5-4 deficit into a 6-5 lead. CF Willy Montero: 1-for-4, RS, BB LF Jackson Castillo: 0-for-2, RS, 2 BB, HBP DH Enmanuel Tejeda: 4-for-5, 2 RBI, RS Tejeda had one 4-hit game in the regular season as well. He drove in the deciding 7th run. RF John Cruz: 1-for-3, RBI, BB 3B Hans Montero: 0-for-4, 2 K C Edinson Duran: 0-for-2, BB, HBP
RHP Luis Serna: 2.2 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 6 K Serna struck out the side in the second. In the third, sloppy play (including his own error on a pickoff attempt) turned out to be his downfall. LHP Allen Facundo: (W, 1-0) 4 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K Facundo did a fabulous job calming this game down. RHP Jackson Fristoe: 1.2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, HR LHP Miguel Pozo (S, 1): 0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K Pozo picks a good time to pick up his first professional save.
DSL Yankees (33-19)
Their season is over, as they missed the playoffs by a half-game.
DSL Bombers (27-26)
Their season is over.

Yankees MILB 8/25: Drew Thorpe Dominates Again
POSTED ON AUGUST 25, 2023 BY ADMIN News:
Nothing new.
Scranton (60-61; 26-21 in the second half) (Walked it off over Lehigh Valley, 6-5)
This is a big series against Lehigh Valley, the team they are chasing for the second-half title.
LF Estevan Florial: 0-for-4, 2 RS, BB, 2 K, SB (20) The challenge system played a huge role in this game. They challenged a strike 3 call to Florial in the 9th and won it. He ended up walking and eventually scoring the winning run. CF Jasson Dominguez: 2-for-5, RBI, K, SB (1) Since promotion: 5-for-13, 1 double, 4 RBI, 2 BB, 1 K. Dominguez has 38 stolen bases between here and Somerset. C Austin Wells: 0-for-3, 2 BB, K Wells is at .255/.352/.445 at this level. Good to see him taking his walks. DH Andres Chaparro: 1-for-3, RS, HBP, K RF Franchy Cordero: 1-for-2, RBI, RS, 2 BB Cordero with the walk-off single in the 9th. 1B Carlos Narvaez: 2-for-3, RS, BB 3B Jake Lamb: 2-for-3, RBI, RS, BB 2B Jamie Westbrook: 0-for-4, K SS Wilmer Difo: 0-for-4, RBI, K
LHP Edgar Barclay: 4 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 6 BB, 2 K, 3 HR Barclay continues to struggle at this level. After allowing one home run for Somerset, he has allowed eight in 19.2 innings here. The ball is lively here so that is probably a part of it. I hate to blame all struggles on the ball (just like I hate to credit all successes by hitters to the ball) RHP Zach Greene: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K RHP Aaron McGarity: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K RHP Matt Bowman: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K RHP Greg Weissert: (W, 5-3) 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
Somerset (70-47; 28-21 in the second half) (Defeated Hartford, 8-1)
2B Caleb Durbin: 2-for-5, 2B (6), RBI, 2 RS Durbin is one of those kids who can become an instant fan favorite. He makes a lot of contact, can steal bases, etc. He has played SS in the past but the Yankees have not asked him to do it in 2023, instead giving him time at 2B and 3B. It makes you wonder if he can be a future DJ LeMahieu with some added speed. It’s a fascinating profile because the Yankees aren’t known for carrying kids with his profile (remember, he wasn’t drafted by the organization – he was a part of the Lucas Luetge trade with Atlanta) DH Ben Rice: 2-for-4, 2B (7), RS, BB The one knock on Rice right now is that he isn’t great against LHP. It is a legitimate concern, as he is 7-for-39 against LHP in 2023 (12-for-60 in 2022; 1-for-12 in 2021). Combined, that is 20-for-111 (.180) with three extra-base hits (one double, 2 HR), 14 walks, and 27 strikeouts.. One thing you notice in that profile is the sample size – it isn’t much. Without enough reps, it is hard to develop the skill. C Agustin Ramirez: 1-for-4, RBI, RS, BB, K Ramirez is hitting .194 (13-for-67) since his promotion with six runs batted in and ten runs scored. An encouraging sign is that the strikeout rate isn’t spiking much – he is at 17.6%. (17.7% in Tampa, 14% in Hudson Valley). CF Elijah Dunham: 1-for-2, 2B (10), 2 RBI, 2 RS, 3 BB, K Even in the offensive environment up in Triple-A, Dunham had issues there this year. Since being sent to Somerset, he seems to have figured things out. I will continue to push for him to get back up to Scranton to close out the season. There is room there, as Franchy Cordero continues to receive consistent playing time after Everson Pereira‘s promotion. 1B Josh Breaux: 2-for-5, RBI RF Grant Richardson: 3-for-5, HR (1), 3 RBI, RS, K Richardson puts together a big effort in his second Double-A game. Between here and Hudson Valley, he has 14 homers in 79 games after launching 16 homers in 90 games last season. Power has never been the concern… LF Aaron Palensky: 0-for-4, BB, K SS Max Burt: 0-for-4, 2 K 3B Eduardo Torrealba: 1-for-4, RS, K
RHP Drew Thorpe: (W, 3-0) 6.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 9 K Since promotion: 1.29 ERA in 21 IP (9 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 HR, 2 BB, 30 K). Overall: 13-2 with a 2.56 ERA in 130 IP (93 H, 41 R, 37 ER, 12 HR, 35 BB, 168 K). The 13 wins and (more importantly) 168 strikeouts are the top numbers in all of minor-league baseball. There is nothing to dislike in his profile. They can give him a taste of the offensively souped-up International League (Triple-A) before the season comes to a close. LHP Josh Maciejewski: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K RHP Alex Mauricio: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K 3.16 ERA (42.2 IP, 38 H, 16 R, 15 ER, 4 HR, 13 BB, 41 K). He hasn’t allowed a run in 8.2 August innings.
Hudson Valley (65-53; 26-26 in the second half) (Held off Aberdeen, 6-5)
SS Jared Serna: 2-for-5, RBI, RS, SB (6) Serna now has a 6-game hitting streak and has 34 multi-hit games in 110 games played this season. He is still looking for that elusive first High-A home run, which could give him a 20/20/20 season (doubles, homers, stolen bases) CF Anthony Hall: 0-for-3, 2 BB, K, SB (1) DH Jesus Rodriguez: 0-for-3, RS, BB 2B Alexander Vargas: 0-for-3, RS, BB C Antonio Gomez: 2-for-4, 3B (1), 2 RBI, RS, K .233/.289/.325 in 321 PA. The 32.1% K rate remains troublesome as well. 1B Rafael Flores: 0-for-4, 2 K LF Christopher Familia: 2-for-4, RBI Familia is up to 57 RBI in 58 games between here and Tampa. I think he is answering the challenge at this level just fine. RF Jared Wegner: 1-for-3, 2 RS, BB, SB (1) Wegner’s first professional stolen base – congrats! He is 7-for-27 at this level. 3B Marcos Cabrera: 2-for-3, RBI, BB, SB (5)
RHP Leonardo Pestana: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K LHP Joel Valdez: (W, 3-6) 2.2 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K RHP Shane Gray: 2 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 1 K RHP Mason Vinyard (S, 1): 2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K Old school save!
Tampa (57-62; 26-27 in the second half) (Swept by Palm Beach in a low-scoring doubleheader)
Game 1 (Lost, 3-0)
3B Kiko Romero: 0-for-3, K .194/.318/.306 in 85 PA. 1B Josh Moylan: 1-for-3, K Moylan increases his hitting streak to five (8-for-22) C Omar Martinez: 1-for-3 CF Nelson Medina: 0-for-2, K Medina’s first game since June 6th. The 22-year-old is hitting .275/.373/.443 in 153 PA with four home runs and a 7-for-8 SB rate. CF Tayler Aguilar: 0-for-1, K DH Brenny Escanio: 1-for-3, SB (19) LF Garrett Martin: 0-for-3, K RF Daury Arias: 1-for-3, K SS Jose Colmenares: 0-for-3, K 2B Beau Brewer: 0-for-2, K
RHP Ryan Harvey: (L, 1-2) 5.1 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, HR At this level: 4.26 ERA (25.1 IP, 20 H, 12 R, 12 ER, 4 HR, 13 BB, 18 K) RHP Osiel Rodriguez: 1.2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K Since promotion: 5.40 ERA (15 IP, 11 H, 9 R, 9 ER, 2 HR, 13 BB, 20 K)
Game 2 (Lost, 2-1)
SS Brenny Escanio: 0-for-3, K 1B Josh Moylan: 0-for-3, K His hitting streak is snapped. Moylan is hitting .281/.400/.333 in 70 PA with 12 walks and 16 strikeouts. DH Omar Martinez: 0-for-3, 3 K CF Cole Gabrielson: 0-for-3, K RF Daury Arias: 1-for-2, RS, BB, K LF Garrett Martin: 1-for-3, 2B (5), RBI Five of Martin’s ten hits are doubles. 3B Jose Colmenares: 1-for-2, 2B (4), BB, K 2B Beau Brewer: 1-for-2, BB C Manuel Palencia: 0-for-3
RHP Yorlin Calderon: 5 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K 3.07 ERA (73.1 IP, 64 H, 28 R, 25 ER, 5 HR, 23 BB, 91 K). Most of the top performers have received promotions this year – two Tampa players (Martinez, Calderon) stand out a bit as players who have stuck to one level. In the case of Calderon, it can be justified as they built him up to return to the rotation. RHP Matt Keating: 0.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K LHP Geoffrey Gilbert: (L, 5-3) 1.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K
FCL Yankees (35-22; 1-1 in the playoffs) (Lost to the Braves, 3-2, in Game 1 of the championship series. They must win the next two to claim back-to-back titles. The last time that happened was in 2014-2015 when the Red Sox accomplished the feat. The Yankees, who have the most league titles with 13, last won back-to-back crowns in 2004-2005)
SS Keiner Delgado: 1-for-4, 2B (2), RS, 2 K, SB (1), CS (1) Including the regular season, Delgado has 14 doubles and 37 stolen bases in 51 games. DH George Lombard Jr.: 1-for-3, BB, K, CS (1) Delgado and Lombard Jr. were both caught stealing in the top of the 6th, a key moment in the contest. 1B Dylan Jasso: 1-for-3, SF, RBI, RS, K CF Willy Montero: 1-for-4 LF Jackson Castillo: 1-for-4 2B Enmanuel Tejeda: 1-for-4, RBI, 2 K RF John Cruz: 0-for-2, BB 3B Hans Montero: 0-for-2, K PH Joel Mendez: 0-for-1, K In the regular season, you rarely see “strategic” pinch-hitting. Even in the rookie leagues, managers are a little more strategic in the playoffs. 3B Dayro Perez: 0-for-0 C Edinson Duran: 0-for-3, K
LHP Henry Lalane (L, 0-1): 2.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, HR Lalane, who recently signed with Scott Boras, pitched to a 4.57 ERA in 21.1 IP during the regular season (17 H, 12 R, 11 ER, 3 HR, 4 BB, 34 K). The fact that he is 6’7″ and is able to keep the walks at bay is encouraging. RHP Jordarlin Mendoza: 3.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 5 BB, 5 K RHP Sebastian Keane: 2.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K Keane is a 22-year-old drafted in the 18th round in 2022. He predictably pitched well this year and hopefully will get a taste of Low-A next week.
DSL Yankees (33-19)
Their season is over, as they missed the playoffs by a half-game.
DSL Bombers (27-26)
Their season is over.

Yankees MILB 8/26: Jasson Dominguez…Again
POSTED ON AUGUST 26, 2023 BY ADMIN News:
Two people independently contacted me tonight from Somerset, claiming that they spotted OF Spencer Jones in the dugout. Given Jones’ size, he is easy to spot, so I believe it to be true. Jones has not played the last two nights for Hudson Valley.
Assuming he isn’t there for a wedding (hey, you never know), this promotion would be earned. The strikeout rate needs to come down for him to reach his full potential, but I am not going to complain about a .268/.337/.450 (113 wRC+) line with 28 doubles, 13 homers, and 35 stolen bases. The strikeout percentage sits at 29% and he does need to get the ball in the air more (46% ground ball). To me, these numbers show that there is monster potential – look what he is doing as is. Now imagine more balls in the air and at least a slight drop in the strikeouts.
Scranton (62-61; 28-21 in the second half) (Swept a doubleheader against Lehigh Valley)
This is a big series against Lehigh Valley, one of the teams they are chasing for the second-half title. Up to the second: Worcester: 30-19 Durham: 30-20 Lehigh Valley: 29-21 Scranton: 28-21
Game 1 (Used a 7-run first inning to cruise to a 7-4 victory)
CF Estevan Florial: 2-for-3, RS, BB LF Jasson Dominguez: 1-for-3, RBI, BB This was the appetizer… C Austin Wells: 2-for-4, 2B (10), RS At this level: .263/.356/.456 in 132 PA with ten doubles, four homers, and 18 RBI. Overall, he is hitting .242/.335/.443 in 415 PA (24 doubles, 16 HR, 70 RBI, 45 R, 46 BB, 94 K). Today, Aaron Boone mentioned that Wells may see some reps at first base. The Yankees have yet to play him at any other position but catcher in the minors, despite concerns that he may not be able to stick there. The main reason for this is probably value – Wells as a catcher has more market value than Wells the first baseman. That said, it doesn’t harm his value at all to give him some work at first base. Some players are able to adapt quickly when presented a new position, so we’ll see what happens. 3B Andres Chaparro: 1-for-4, SB (4) DH Franchy Cordero: 0-for-3, RS, BB, K 2B Jamie Westbrook: 1-for-3, HR (19), 4 RBI, RS, BB Westbrook hits a grand slam. He ties his personal best for home runs in a season, set back in 2018. 1B Jake Lamb: 1-for-2, HR (4), RBI, RS, BB RF Michael Hermosillo: 1-for-3, HR (12), RBI, RS, 2 K Scranton hit back-to-back-to-back homers in the first inning. SS Wilmer Difo: 1-for-3, RS
RHP Will Warren: (W, 6-4) 6 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 7 K, 3 HR At this level: 4.82 ERA (71 IP, 68 H, 48 R, 38 ER, 15 HR, 36 BB, 74 K). His ERA is lower than the league average in this crazy league, so keep that in mind. Overall, Warren is 9-4 in 23 starts between here and Somerset with a 4.13 ERA in 100.1 IP (94 H, 58 R, 46 ER, 15 HR, 48 BB, 113 K) RHP Zac Houston: 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
Game 2 (Won, 6-3)
DH Estevan Florial: 0-for-1, RBI, RS, 3 BB .288/.390/.558 in 418 PA. He is only 7-for-35 in August, though he has drawn 11 walks. CF Jasson Dominguez: 3-for-4, 2B (2), 3 RBI, 2 RS …this was the main course. He is now 9-for-20 (.450) since his promotion with eight runs batted in and only one strikeout. This is exactly what the Yankees ordered. Overall, he is hitting .263/.374/.420 in 530 PA (21 doubles, 2 triples, 15 HR, 74 RBI, 86 R, 80 BB (15.1%), 131 K (24.7%), 38-for-46 SB). 3B Andres Chaparro: 1-for-4, RBI, K .246/.339/.461 in 496 PA (19 doubles, 2 triples, 23 HR, 77 RI, 71 R, 59 BB (11.9%), 107 K (21.6%), 4-for-4 SB). Chaparro is in the mix for the organization’s HR and RBI crowns (he leads in RBI). RF Franchy Cordero: 2-for-4, 2 K C Carlos Narvaez: 0-for-3, SF, RBI, 2 K .252/.380/.416 in 321 PA. A fascinating Rule 5 case this winter. It is hard to give up catching depth – every team needs it, and you don’t even want to give up a potential backup catcher for free. 2B Jamie Westbrook: 1-for-2, 2 BB 1B Jake Lamb: 2-for-3, RS, BB LF Brandon Lockridge: 0-for-3, RS, BB SS Jesus Bastidas: 0-for-1, RS, 2 BB
RHP Randy Vasquez: 4.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 5 K, HR Vasquez tossed only 63 pitches. He owns a 4.59 ERA at this level with a 96/40 K/BB over 80.1 innings. As I always say, once I see some success in MLB, I don’t pay quite as much attention to MILB numbers. The probability is high that the MLB coaching staff is asking him to work on specific things in the minors. LHP Anthony Misiewicz (W, 3-0): 0.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 0 K, HR RHP Zach McAllister: 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 0 K, HR
Somerset (71-47; 29-21 in the second half) (Defeated Hartford, 3-1)
DH Caleb Durbin: 0-for-3, RS, BB, SB (18) Durbin is up to 33 stolen bases in 38 attempts between here and Hudson Valley. He has accomplished that in 59 games. His up-to-the-minute K% is 6.5%. That is elite-level stuff. C Ben Rice: 3-for-4, RBI, RS, SB (5) Rice is 30-for-90 (.333) in August (6 doubles,1 triple, 7 HR, 23 RBI, 17 R, 8 BB, 16 K, 5-for-6 SB) and has four 3+ hit games this season. He isn’t typically frisky on the basepaths, but let him have his fun. 1B Agustin Ramirez: 2-for-4, 2B (2), HR (2), 2 RBI, RS Ramirez is 15-for-71 (.211/.606 OPS) since his promotion. Overall, he has 19 doubles, 18 homers, and 66 RBI in 100 games between here, Hudson Valley, and Tampa. There is nothing to worry about at all – he continues to make a lot of contact here and the results will follow. RF Elijah Dunham: 0-for-4, 2 K LF Aaron Palensky: 0-for-4, K 2B Anthony Seigler: 1-for-3, BB CF Jeisson Rosario: 2-for-4, K SS Max Burt: 1-for-3, K 3B Eduardo Torrealba: 0-for-3, 2 K
RHP Matt Sauer: (W, 3-3) 6 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 4 BB, 5 K 4.03 ERA (44.2 IP, 36 H, 21 R, 20 ER, 6 HR, 21 BB, 54 K) RHP Tanner Myatt: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K At this level: 3.21 ERA (47.2 IP, 29 H, 20 R, 17 ER, 3 HR, 32 BB, 56 K) RHP Jack Neely (S, 1): 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K Since promotion: 11.2 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 2 HR, 2 BB, 15 K. Overall, he has an 89/19 K/BB over 60.1 IP.
Hudson Valley (66-53; 27-26 in the second half) (Defeated Aberdeen, 4-2)
SS Jared Serna: 1-for-5 Serna now has a 7-game hitting streak. CF Anthony Hall: 1-for-3, RS, BB, K Since promotion: 10-for-58 (.172) with five doubles, a homer, nine walks, and 22 strikeouts. 3B Jesus Rodriguez: 2-for-4, 2B (4), RBI, 2 K Rodriguez is 19-for-55 (..345/.921 OPS) in 15 games since his promotion. He has four doubles, a homer, 11 RBI, nine walks, and 12 strikeouts. DH Alexander Vargas: 0-for-4, 4 K 2B Ben Cowles: 0-for-3, RS, BB, K RF Christopher Familia: 2-for-4, HR (10), RBI, RS Familia continues to rake. He has 21 HR and 58 RBI in 59 games between here and Tampa. Over the last two years, he has 32 HR and 99 RBI in 116 games. In 38 games since his promotion, he is hitting .267/.344/.500 in 163 PA (4 doubles, 10 HR, 27 RBI, 29 R, 16 BB, 34 K). He will find himself in Somerset in 2024. C Rafael Flores: 1-for-3, HR (6), RBI, RS, BB, 2 K .262/.344/.363 in 392 PA (15 doubles, 6 HR, 35 RBI, 44 R, 43 BB, 101 K) 1B Spencer Henson: 1-for-4, RBI, 2 K LF Kyle Battle: 0-for-3, BB, K
RHP Zach Messinger: 4.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 8 K 4.29 ERA (92.1 IP, 78 H, 55 R, 44 ER, 13 HR, 48 BB, 111 K). The 23-year-old is doing a good enough job in his first full season of starting (he made 16 starts in his 31 appearances last year) RHP Anderson Munoz: (W, 1-0) 1.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K RHP Harrison Cohen: (S, 1) 2.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, HR Following this game on GameDay, I got the feeling that Cohen (who tossed 36 pitches) was fighting his way through the 9th. Anyway, he has a 3.76 ERA in 38 IP at this level (29 H, 17 R, 16 ER, 4 HR, 17 BB, 48 K)
Tampa (57-62; 26-27 in the second half)
They played two games against Palm Beach on Friday. No game today.
FCL Yankees (35-22; 1-2 in the playoffs) (Lost to the Braves, 9-1. The Braves take the championship series, 2-0, as the Yankees season comes to an end. Overall, this was a successful season in the FCL as many prospects performed more than well enough to earn a shot in Tampa. That could come next week or next season. I assume it will be next week for a few of them)
2B Keiner Delgado: 1-for-4 Delgado followed up his .293/.414/.485 regular season with a 4-for-12 (including two doubles) postseason. SS George Lombard Jr.: 1-for-4 Lombard hit safely in every game he played in (four regular season games, and three playoff games). Combined, he went 8-for-23 (.348) with a double, seven walks, and four strikeouts. 1B Dylan Jasso: 1-for-3, RS, BB In 20 regular season/postseason games, Jasso went 26-for-72 with two home runs and 23 runs batted in. He walked 12 times and struck out six times. A candidate to go to Tampa next week. CF Willy Montero: 2-for-4 Montero burst onto the scene last year and did not disappoint this year, hitting .331/.389/.436 in 203 PA while spending a lot of time in CF (27 starts in CF, 18 starts in RF). He followed that up with a 4-for-12 postseason. LF Jackson Castillo: 0-for-3, BB 3B Enmanuel Tejeda: 0-for-4 Tejeda was one of the most consistent players at this level. After hitting .307/.465/.458 in the regular season, he went 5-for-13 with three RBI in the postseason. RF John Cruz: 0-for-4, K Cruz went 1-for-9 in the postseason, but that doesn’t lessen his productive regular season. DH Wilson Rodriguez: 0-for-3, 2 K PH Joel Mendez: 0-for-1, K C Edinson Duran: 0-for-4
RHP Carlos Lagrange (L, 0-1): 3.2 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 4 BB, 3 K The 6’7″ 20-year-old did enough in the rookie leagues this year to earn his shot at Low-A in 2024. LHP Edwar Polimir: 3.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K The 22-year-old Polimir made his Low-A debut already (8/10) but it was only for a game. RHP Jordy Luciano: 0 IP, 0 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 0 K LHP Pablo Mujica: 2 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 0 BB, 3 K
DSL Yankees (33-19)
Their season is over, as they missed the playoffs by a half-game.

Yankees MILB 8/27: Spencer Jones: 2 Hits in Somerset Debut
POSTED ON AUGUST 27, 2023 BY ADMIN News:
SS George Lombard Jr., 1B/3B Dylan Jasso, and OF Jackson Castillo were all moved up to Low-A Tampa after the FCL season concluded yesterday. All three were in today’s lineup.
Lombard (18) was the Yankees’ first-round pick in the 2023 draft while Jasso (20-year-old right-handed bat) and Castillo (20-year-old left-handed bat) both were signed as undrafted free agents after the draft.
“Is the Lombard promotion aggressive for the Yankees?” That question is impossible to answer. The most recent direct comparison (Anthony Volpe, 2019) played under a different system. He never played in the GCL (now FCL), instead going straight to short-season Pulaski after being drafted. We’ll never know what the exact plans for him were because he came down with an illness that wiped out his season after 34 games.
Jasso and Castillo are college kids – one should never be surprised to see college bats making their way to a full-season league quickly. Many start there.
Scranton (63-61; 29-21 in the second half) (Defeated Lehigh Valley, 6-4. The Railriders took six out of seven in this series)
Up to the second second-half title chase: Worcester: 31-19 Durham: 29-21 (game not yet completed) Scranton: 29-21 Lehigh Valley: 29-22
RF Estevan Florial: 2-for-4, 2B (19), RBI, RS, SB (21) Florial is a double away from a 20/20/20 season. He is hitting .290/.391/.561 in 422 PA. LF Jasson Dominguez: 2-for-3, 3B (1), 2 RBI, RS, BB, K Dominguez is 11-for-23 (.478/1.023 OPS) since his promotion with two doubles, one triple, and ten runs batted in. What, no home runs? He is right in the middle of the organization’s RBI title race, as he is up to 76 (Andres Chaparro leads with 77. Jared Serna also has 76). His triple slash now sits at .266/.376/.426. Remember when he was hitting under .200? It really wasn’t all that long ago. Yeah, a 20-year-old doing this in the upper minors deserves a ranking in the 80s, Pipeline. C Austin Wells: 1-for-4, HR (5), 2 RBI, RS, K Wells has eight doubles, five home runs, and 19 RBI in 23 August games. He is also in the middle of the RBI race, as he is up to 72 in 94 games. 3B Andres Chaparro: 0-for-4, K 1B Carlos Narvaez: 0-for-4, K DH Franchy Cordero: 0-for-3, RS, HBP, 2 K 2B Jamie Westbrook: 0-for-2, RS, BB CF Brandon Lockridge: 0-for-2, SAC, K Small ball Lockridge! Somerset (72-47; 30-21 in the second half) (Defeated Hartford, 7-6)
SS Caleb Durbin: 2-for-5, RS, SB (19) The injury didn’t slow him down. Durbin is 11-for-33 (.333) since returning with two walks, only one strikeout, and five stolen bases. His season numbers between here and Hudson Valley: .298/.393/.399 in 252 PA (11 doubles, 1 triple, 3 HR, 20 RBI, 42 R, 25 BB, 16 K (6.3%), 34-for-39 SB) 1B Ben Rice: 1-for-5, HR (12), RBI, RS, K Rice has 12 home runs in 32 games since his promotion (.326/.389/.674 in 144 insane plate appearances) CF Spencer Jones: 2-for-4, RS Jones starts his Double-A journey with a multi-hit game. Overall, he is at .284/.382/.484 in 435 PA with 20 doubles, 18 HR, 67 RBI, 67 runs, 58 walks, 71 strikeouts, and 11 stolen bases. RF Elijah Dunham: 0-for-4 DH Josh Breaux: 1-for-4, RS LF Grant Richardson: 2-for-4, HR (2), 2 RBI, 2 RS Richardson has homered in back-to-back games and has 15 home runs overall between here and Hudson Valley. 2B Mickey Gasper: 2-for-3, 2B (5), RS, BB 3B Eduardo Torrealba: 0-for-4, K
RHP Blane Abeyta: 5 IP, 8 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 3 BB, 3 K RHP Alex Mauricio: 0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K RHP Danny Watson: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K Since promotion: 1.41 ERA in 32 IP (16 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 4 HR, 16 BB, 38 K). In 117.1 career innings, Watson has allowed only 76 hits while striking out 145. He will allow his share of walks but the overall profile is a dominant one. RHP Jesus Liranzo: (W, 3-1) 1.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K RHP Bailey Dees: (S, 1) 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K Since promotion: 12 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 0 HR, 6 BB, 13 K. In 113 career innings, Dees has allowed only 69 hits while striking out 147 (48 walks). There are some fun relievers in the minors who are getting closer to their big-league dreams.
Hudson Valley (66-54; 27-27 in the second half) (Lost to Aberdeen, 4-2. Poor Renegades have lost most of the players who helped them earn a playoff berth in the first half. Life as a High-A affiliate!)
SS Ben Cowles: 0-for-3, HBP, 2 K The hard way to increase your on-base streak to 38. DH Antonio Gomez: 0-for-4, 2 K 1B Jesus Rodriguez: 1-for-3, BB, CS (1) LF Christopher Familia: 0-for-4, K RF Jared Wegner: 1-for-3, BB, 2 K Wegner is 8-for-30 at this level with six walks. 3B Marcos Cabrera: 1-for-4, K, CS (2) 2B Luis Santos: 0-for-3 CF Kyle Battle: 0-for-1, RS, 2 BB, SB (2) Battle is only 1-for-24 this season, which has (obviously) been interrupted by injury. He has speed to kill (20 SB in 51 games in 2022) but the rest of the game hasn’t yet developed. C Juan Crisp: 1-for-3, HR (1), 2 RBI, RS Crisp started in the system back in 2018, and this is his 98th career game. His last home run came exactly four years ago: 8/27/2019.
RHP Baron Stuart: 5 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 5 K At this level: 3.54 ERA in 28 IP (21 H, 11 R, 11 ER, 2 HR, 14 BB, 20 K) LHP Clay Aguilar: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K 2.65 ERA in 37.1 IP (27 H, 13 R, 11 ER, 2 HR, 17 BB, 55 K) RHP Luis Velasquez (L, 3-2): 2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 4 K, HR
Tampa (57-63; 26-28 in the second half) (Lost to Palm Beach, 12-1)
2B Roc Riggio: 0-for-4, BB At this level: 9-for-45 (.200/.429/.222) with a double, 17 walks, and 15 strikeouts. SS George Lombard, Jr.: 0-for-3, BB, 2 K Lombard’s first career hitless game – but at least he got on base! C Omar Martinez: 0-for-4, 3 K LF Jackson Castillo: 0-for-4, 2 K 1B Dylan Jasso: 0-for-4 3B Kiko Romero: 1-for-3, 2B (4), BB, K .200/.326/.300 in 89 PA with four doubles, a triple, and a home run. DH Brenny Escanio: 1-for-2, 2 BB, K, SB (20) .223/.337/.290 in 449 PA with 20 stolen bases in 26 attempts. He has a 14.7% BB and 25.4% K. CF Nelson Medina: 1-for-2, RS, BB, K, SB (8) CF Daury Arias: 0-for-1, K RF Cole Gabrielson: 1-for-4, 2B (3), RBI, K At this level: 9-for-51 (.176/.250/.275) with three doubles and a triple.
RHP Cam Schlittler: (L, 0-2) 4 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K Talk about an undeserved loss in a game like this! That’s baseball, Suzyn. At this level: 5.21 ERA in 19 IP (23 H, 12 R, 11 ER, 3 HR, 7 BB, 20 K) RHP Nolberto Henriquez: 1 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, HR RHP Luis Arejula: 0.2 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 0 K RHP Alex Bustamante: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K RHP Adam Stone: 0 IP, 1 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 4 BB, 0 K, HR RHP Ocean Gabonia: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K 5.06 ERA (48 IP, 44 H, 33 R, 27 ER, 4 HR, 26 BB, 43 K)

Yankees MILB 8/29: Agustin Ramirez Heating Up?
POSTED ON AUGUST 29, 2023 BY ADMIN News:
I would need someone to publish my novel if I went into details about every player promoted today.
To Hudson Valley:
OF Cole Gabrielson (2023 non-drafted free agent) RHP Yorlin Calderon (2018 International free agent. 22 years old) RHP Cam Schlittler (2022 7th round pick out of Northeastern)
To Tampa:
RHP Kris Bow (2022 non-drafted free agent. He was with Tampa earlier this season) RHP Jackson Fristoe (2022 12th-round pick out of Mississippi State) RHP Sebastian Keane (2022 18th round pick out of Northeastern – the Yankees must like RHP out of Northeastern!) RHP Yoljeldriz Diaz (2018 International free agent. 22 years old)
The Yankees have shut down RHP Chase Hampton for the rest of the season. Hampton pitched to a 3.63 ERA (3.39 FIP) in 106.2 innings between Hudson Valley and Somerset (33.1% K, 8.4% BB). He is 21 years old and this is his first taste of professional baseball. In his two years in college (Texas Tech), Hampton tossed 101 innings. Hence, it is smart to shut him down now in anticipation of a higher innings load in 2024. If you are wondering about RHP Richard Fitts, he tossed 112 innings for Tampa/Hudson Valley last year and is up to 131 innings this year. He’s fine. Like Hampton, RHP Drew Thorpe is in his first professional season. The difference is that he tossed 104.2 innings for Cal Poly in 2022, after throwing 90.1 innings in 2021. They might still shut him down at some point, but his current 130 innings don’t put him in a danger zone.
Also, T.J. Rumfield will start a rehab assignment down in Hudson Valley. Rumfield was breaking out in the power department earlier this season before the injury bug got him.
Scranton (63-62; 29-22 in the second half) (Lost to Rochester, 2-1)
Up to the second second-half title chase: Worcester: 31-20 Durham: 30-21 (game not over) Scranton: 29-22 Lehigh Valley: 29-22 (game not over)
LF Estevan Florial: 0-for-5, 2 K CF Jasson Dominguez: 1-for-4, RS, BB, SB (2) Dominguez has 39 stolen bases between Somerset and Scranton. Last season, he stole 37 bases in 44 attempts. Since his promotion, he is 12-for-27 with five walks and two strikeouts. I don’t know what the Yankees will do but what I thought was impossible entering the season (reaching MLB) is very much possible now. Yes, some of that is due to the fact that the Yankees have underperformed. DH Austin Wells: 1-for-4, BB, K 1B Andres Chaparro: 2-for-4, RBI Chaparro drives home his organization-leading 78th run. C Carlos Narvaez: 1-for-3, BB, K RF Franchy Cordero: 0-for-4, 3 K 2B Jamie Westbrook: 1-for-2, BB, CI 3B Jake Lamb: 0-for-3, BB, 2 K SS Jesus Bastidas: 1-for-4
RHP Mitch Spence: (L, 8-7) 4.2 IP, 9 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 4 K 4.57 ERA (138 IP, 140 H, 77 R, 70 ER, 24 HR, 44 BB, 129 K) RHP Aaron McGarity: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K LHP Anthony Misiewicz: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K RHP Matt Bowman: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K
Somerset (73-47; 31-21 in the second half) (Defeated Portland, 3-1)
2B Caleb Durbin: 2-for-5, 2 2B (8), K Durbin’s power will likely not develop above the doubles/triples line, and that is fine given everything else he can potentially provide. He is hitting .283/.350/.414 in 160 PA at this level (8 doubles, 1 triple, 3 HR, 12 RBI, 22 R, 11 BB, 8 K, 19-for-23 SB). C Ben Rice: 2-for-5, RS, K Rice is now 33-for-100 (.330) in August (6 doubles, 1 triple, 8 HR, 24 RBI, 19 R, 8 BB, 19 K). For Somerset, he is hitting .328/.389/.664. CF Spencer Jones: 0-for-4, 3 K DH Agustin Ramirez: 2-for-4, 2B (4), RS Ramirez has three straight multi-hit games, raising his Double-A triple slash to .244/.314/.372 in 86 plate appearances. LF Elijah Dunham: 0-for-4, K 1B Mickey Gasper: 1-for-3, BB RF Jeisson Rosario: 1-for-2, 2 RBI, 2 BB .212/.358/.349 in 384 PA. Drawing walks is not an issue (18.5%). SS Max Burt: 0-for-4, 2 K 3B Eduardo Torrealba: 0-for-3, RS, BB
RHP Yoendrys Gomez: 4.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 K 2.87 ERA in 53.1 IP (35 H, 19 R, 17 ER, 5 HR, 27 BB, 62 K). At the very least, if they determine he can’t do the 25-30 start thing, he can be a big-league bullpen option. His clock is ticking though for him to become something with the Yankees, however. LHP Josh Maciejewski: (W, 1-2) 1.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K Maciejewski is doing his job as a “rover” (he has pitched at three levels this season). He owns a 2.06 ERA and 40/10 K/BB over 35 innings. RHP Tanner Myatt: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K At this level: 3.10 ERA in 49.1 IP (29 H, 20 R, 17 ER, 3 HR, 32 BB, 59 K). Is there still something to unlock here? Teams rarely give up on good arms – though some run out of time and find their groove elsewhere. LHP Ryan Anderson (S, 1): 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K Since promotion: 1.42 ERA (19 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 HR, 6 BB, 20 K)
Hudson Valley (66-55; 27-28 in the second half) (Lost to Wilmington, 6-3)
CF Anthony Hall: 1-for-4, K Since promotion: .177/.282/.306 in 72 PA 2B Jared Serna: 1-for-4, RS, SB (7) Serna has an 8-game hitting streak (10-for-32). He is 7-for-8 stealing bases in 17 games since his promotion and 26-for-33 overall. LF Jesus Rodriguez: 1-for-2, RS, BB, HBP, SB (1) His first High-A stolen base but he is no stranger to the craft: He is now 16-for-20 stealing bases between Hudson Valley and Tampa. In August, he is 21-for-60 (.350) with 11 walks. His positional breakdown (starts): 3B (48), C (22), 1B (15), LF (10), DH (2) C Antonio Gomez: 1-for-4 SS Alexander Vargas: 0-for-4, K 3B Ben Cowles: 1-for-4, RBI, 2 K 39-game on-base streak (39-for-136 (.287) with 26 walks and three HBP. Heading into tonight (I don’t have the update number here), he had a 138 wRC+ during this streak. DH Christopher Familia: 0-for-4, 3 K 1B Rafael Flores: 1-for-3, HR (7), RBI, RS, HBP Flores has homered in back-to-back games. Six of his seven home runs have come since July 19th (30 games) RF Jared Wegner: 0-for-2, BB, 2 K
RHP Justin Lange: (L, 1-1) 3 IP, 6 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 4 BB, 3 K Since promotion: 5.68 ERA (12.2 IP, 12 H, 8 R, 8 ER, 0 HR, 8 BB, 16 K). Overall, in 95 innings, Lange has allowed only 62 hits with a 131/63 K/BB. Someone teach this kid some control before he kills somebody. RHP Cole Ayers: 2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 5 K Since promotion: 2.51 ERA (14.1 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 1 HR, 5 BB, 18 K). Overall, he owns an 82/22 K/BB over 60.2 innings. RHP Mason Vinyard: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K Since promotion: 2.93 ERA (30.2 IP, 23 H, 11 R, 10 ER, 2 HR, 17 BB, 34 K). Overall, he owns a 66/27 K/BB over 55 innings in his debut season. RHP Shane Gray: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
