Yankees MILB 8/30: Ben Rice Goes Off
POSTED ON AUGUST 30, 2023 BY ADMIN News:
It looked like it might be a slow news day.
Late this afternoon, Bryan Hoch announced that the Yankees are calling up Jasson Dominguez and Austin Wells.
When we woke up on July 7th, Dominguez was staring at a .198/.341/.343 triple slash with a 94 wRC+ and 28.7% K. Since then (not including today), he has hit .364/.433/.543 (163 wRC+) with a 17.8% K.
Dominguez has the potential to be a star. The ceiling is just as enormous now as it was when he was signed. Ceilings are hard to achieve, but Dominguez is someone every fan should be excited about. Even his 75% outcome is All-Star level.
I won’t lie and tell you that Wells has played at a high level in 2023. His .240/.333/.442 line isn’t going to dazzle you. That said, he has the power profile to take advantage of the porch and draws his share of walks. In 188 games between 2022-2023, Wells has 41 doubles, 37 home runs, and 104 walks (12.5%) in 831 plate appearances. This is what the Yankees are hoping for – enough average to go along with power and walks. Not everyone has to be a top-of-the-order stud. If Wells develops into a 6th-7th hitter, you take it. The other question that needs answering is his future position. He is athletic enough to play left field, but the Yankees are playing other youngsters out there. First base is another option, though that does raise the offensive bar. For 2023, he will get his time behind the plate and we’ll see what happens.
Fans just need to be patient because it is unlikely we will see another Gary Sanchez level of explosion. It can happen, but you can’t count on that. The important thing for 2023 is the experience.
The Yankees have released RHP Spencer Howard. Howard, acquired for cash considerations at the deadline, was low on the 40-man roster totem pole He only pitched in three games for Scranton, allowing four runs in 3.1 innings.
“Why make this trade?”
The Yankees were taking a flyer on a former Top 30 prospect (as recent as 2021). When you have a 40-man roster opening, acquiring someone with a prospect pedigree isn’t a bad idea. No harm, no foul.
Scranton (63-63; 29-23 in the second half) (Lost to Rochester, 8-4)
Up to the second second-half title chase: Worcester: 31-20 (Game not over) Durham: 31-21 Lehigh Valley: 31-22 Scranton: 29-23
RF Estevan Florial: 1-for-5, HR (24), RBI, 2 RS, K, 2 SB (23) .285/.384/.556 in 432 PA. This was his first home run since July 30th (he was out of action from August 2 – August 16) LF Jasson Dominguez: 1-for-4, 2B (3), RS, BB, K, SB (3) Dominguez has 40 stolen bases between here and Somerset. Overall stat line: .265/.377/.425 in 544 PA (22 doubles, 3 triples, 15 HR, 76 RBI, 89 R, 83 BB (15.3%), 133 K (24.4%), 40-for-48 SB). Last year, playing for Tampa, Hudson Valley, and Somerset, he hit .273/.375/.461 in 530 PA. I would have called you nuts back in June if you told me he was going to eventually approach his 2022 totals. Yet, here we are… C Austin Wells: 0-for-4, K Since promotion: .254/.349/.452 in 146 PA with ten doubles, five home runs and a 23.3% K. 1B Andres Chaparro: 1-for-5, RS, K DH Franchy Cordero: 0-for-3, BB, K 3B Jamie Westbrook: 2-for-3, 2B (17), 2 RBI, K, SB (5) 3B Jake Lamb: 0-for-3, BB, 2 K SS Wilmer Difo: 0-for-2, 2 BB, K, SB (17) CF Brandon Lockridge: 0-for-3, BB
LHP Edgar Barclay (L, 0-3): 4.1 IP, 2 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 4 BB, 6 K He left the game with the bases loaded and all three runners ended up scoring. Furthermore, a big error was the lighted match that turned into an inferno. At this level, he owns a bloated 7.88 ERA in 24 innings. Again, it is so hard to get a good read on pitchers in Triple-A this season. RHP Zach Greene: 0.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K RHP Ron Marinaccio: 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 0 K LHP Nick Ramirez: 1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, HR RHP Zac Houston: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
Somerset (74-47; 32-21 in the second half) (Toyed with Portland, 13-6. They fell behind 5-2 and 6-3 before taking off)
LF Elijah Dunham: 3-for-5, 2B (11), 3 RS, BB, K, 2 SB (18) Dunham has 23 doubles and 30 stolen bases between here and Scranton. I think he should take the place of Dominguez in Triple-A. C Ben Rice: 4-for-6, 2B (8), 2 HR (14), 5 RBI, 4 RS, SB (6) Is this guy for real? Since his promotion, in a mere 34 games, he is hitting .343 with a 1.114 OPS (8 doubles, 14 HR, 41 RBI, 30 R, and 6 stolen bases). It is kind of surprising that he is only on a 5-game hitting streak! CF Spencer Jones: 1-for-4, HR (1), 4 RBI, 2 RS, 2 BB, 3 K, SB (1) Jones takes care of his first Double-A homer (a grand slam!) and first Double-A stolen base on the same night. He is 3-for-11 since his promotion and has 28 doubles, 4 triples, 14 HR, 60 RBI, 65 runs scored, and 36 stolen bases overall. I don’t know if he will be a stolen base machine in MLB, but his athleticism continues to shine in the minors. Rough edges to work out? Definitely. But the ceiling is tantalizing. 1B Agustin Ramirez: 1-for-5 3B Caleb Durbin: 1-for-3, RS, BB, HBP, CS (5) Since returning from the IL: 14-for-41 (.341) with three walks and only two strikeouts. DH Josh Breaux: 2-for-5, RBI 2B Anthony Seigler: 0-for-4, BB, K RF Grant Richardson: 1-for-5, RS, 4 K SS Max Burt: 2-for-5, 2 RS, 2 K
RHP Richard Fitts: 4 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, 4 K, HR Fitts has been so good lately that we can toss this. As I have mentioned before, the one knock on him is that he sometimes loses his command within the strike zone. Tonight, he uncharacteristically allowed some walks. It happens. Season: 3.40 ERA (135 IP, 114 H, 52 R, 51 ER, 19 HR, 37 BB, 143 K). He is one of the few performing prospects who has stayed at one level all season. That is fine – just a random observation. He doesn’t ever need to step foot in Triple-A. RHP Carlos Gomez: (W, 1-0) 2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K RHP Jack Neely: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K Since promotion: 1.98 ERA (13.2 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 2 HR, 2 BB, 18 K). Overall, he has a 92/19 K/BB over 62.1 innings. He should be ready in 2024 – perhaps as early as Opening Day, though I wouldn’t bet money on it. RHP Jesus Liranzo: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
Hudson Valley (67-55; 28-28 in the second half) (Knocked off Wilmington, 9-3)
RF Anthony Hall: 1-for-4, RS, BB SS Jared Serna: 2-for-5, 2B (4), RS, 2 K Serna increases his hitting streak to nine. He is hitting .284 since his promotion. Serna has only five extra-base hits in 18 games at this level, but his season has been so good that we won’t worry about that. As long as he isn’t overwhelmed at a more advanced level, that is a win. DH T.J. Rumfield: 1-for-4, 2B (1), RS, BB Rumfield’s first rehab game. In Somerset earlier this season, he hit .224/.322/.463 with 17 home runs in 72 games. The power surge was unexpected. As for the average, his .218 BABIP may indicate some bad luck there. C Jesus Rodriguez: 2-for-4, HR (2), SF, 3 RBI, RS, K Rodriguez is hitting .359 (23-for-64) since his promotion (5 doubles, 2 HR, 14 RBI, 11 BB, 13 K). He has not stopped hitting all season. 2B Alexander Vargas: 1-for-5, RS, 2 K 3B Ben Cowles: 2-for-5, 2 RS, K Cowles now has a 40-game on-base streak. LF Christopher Familia: 1-for-4, RBI, RS CF Cole Gabrielson: 2-for-4, HR (1), 2 RBI, RS This is what you call making an impression in your High-A debut. 1B Rafael Flores: 2-for-4, RBI
LHP Brock Selvidge: (W, 3-1) 5 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 3 K It was a grind tonight for Selvidge, but he kept the damage at bay. At this level: 3.96 in 38.2 IP (35 H, 18 R, 17 ER, 2 HR, 12 BB, 37 K). Overall, Selvidge (just turned 21) is up to 116 innings after tossing 42.2 innings in 2022. Will they let him finish out the season, or is the end near? There isn’t too much time left. RHP Anderson Munoz: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K RHP Harrison Cohen: 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 K 6 outs, all via strikeout! That works.
Tampa (57-63; 26-28 in the second half)
Their game against St. Lucie was canceled due to Hurricane Idalia. They hope to resume play on Thursday.
FCL Yankees (35-22; 1-2 in the playoffs)
They lost to the Braves in the championship series. Their season is over.
DSL Yankees (33-19)
Their season is over, as they missed the playoffs by a half-game.
DSL Bombers (27-26)

Yankees MILB 8/31: Drew Thorpe Ks 9
POSTED ON AUGUST 31, 2023 BY ADMIN News:
Yesterday’s busy news day did not extend into today.
Scranton (64-63; 30-23 in the second half) (Defeated Rochester, 4-1, in ten innings. I won’t lie – with all the promotions to MLB and no big prospects replacing them, Scranton’s roster isn’t the most exciting in minor-league baseball. But they still have a playoff berth to chase)
Up to the second second-half title chase: Durham: 31-21 (game in progress) Lehigh Valley: 32-22 Worcester: 31-22 Buffalo: 30-22 Norfolk: 31-23 (first-half champions – if they repeat, the second-place team in the second half gets the playoff berth) Jacksonville: 30-23 Scranton: 30-23
CF Estevan Florial: 0-for-4, 2 BB, 2 K C Carlos Narvaez: 1-for-5, RS, BB, K, SB (5) He is hitting .251 with a .777 OPS since his promotion. RF Franchy Cordero: 0-for-5, 3 K 1B Andres Chaparro: 2-for-5, 2B (20), RBI, RS Chaparro adds 20 doubles to his 23 home runs. He is up to 79 RBI, which still is the top number in the organization. 3B Jamie Westbrook: 0-for-4, RS, BB, K DH Jake Lamb: 1-for-3, 2B (5), RBI, RS, 2 BB, K SS Jesus Bastidas: 1-for-5, 3 K, SB (9) 2B Wilmer Difo: 1-for-3, 2B (8), 2 RBI, 2 BB, K, 2 SB (19) When rosters used to expand to 40 max, a player like Difo would always find his way up – he can run and play several positions. I still think the MLBPA shouldn’t have given up the 40-man roster callups easily, even if it made some sense from a competition standpoint. LF Brandon Lockridge: 1-for-3, 2 BB, K, 2 SB (19) Lockridge has 36 stolen bases in 40 attempts between here and Somerset. He is having a solid season and can play all three outfield positions. I still see him as a Tim Locastro type (with the potential to have more of a hit tool), which is not a bad outcome – Locastro has been around for a while doing his craft. His best opportunity for playing time would be elsewhere, I am afraid.
RHP Zach McAllister: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K He seemingly started instead of Randy Vasquez – given the bullpen usage in this game, one has to assume that Vasquez is a fresh arm on his way to Houston. LHP Matt Krook: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K 0.96 ERA (28 IP, 8 H, 6 R, 3 ER, 0 HR, 20 BB, 48 K) RHP Greg Weissert: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K RHP Matt Bowman: 1 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K RHP Aaron McGarity: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K RHP Zac Houston: (W, 1-1) 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K RHP Wilmer Difo: 1 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 0 K Difo has appeared in enough games on the hill to qualify as the Triple-A Shohei Ohtani.
Somerset (75-47; 33-21 in the second half) (Defeated Portland, 5-2)
SS Caleb Durbin: 1-for-3, 2B (9), RBI, RS, HBP, 2 SB (21) Durbin has 36 stolen bases in 42 attempts between here and Hudson Valley. With Jasson Dominguez (40 SB) on his way to MLB, Durbin has a chance to take the SB crown. If he didn’t get hurt, the crown would have been his anyway. 1B Ben Rice: 1-for-4, RS, 2 K Rice has a 6-game hitting streak (13-for-28; 2 doubles, 3 HR, 7 RBI, 9 R). August: 38-for-110 (.345/.397/.700 (LOL); 7 doubles, 1 triple, 10 HR, 29 RBI, 24 R). Total season: .333/.442/.648 in 265 PA (13 doubles, 1 triple, 18 HR, 61 RBI, 52 R, 35 BB, 46 K, 10-for-11 SB) CF Spencer Jones: 0-for-3, SF, RBI, K Since promotion: 3-for-15 with a homer and five runs batted in. C Agustin Ramirez: 1-for-4, RBI Since promotion: .241/.305/.356 in 95 PA. He has a 6-game hitting streak going (9-for-24) RF Elijah Dunham: 1-for-4, 3B (1), RS, K Let him finish his season in Triple-A. 2B Mickey Gasper: 0-for-4, K DH Anthony Seigler: 1-for-2, HR (4), RBI, RS, 2 BB, K Seigler still has more walks (48; 20.1%) than strikeouts (44). He accomplished the same in 2022 (91 walks, 82 strikeouts) LF Aaron Palensky: 0-for-3, SF, RBI, 2 K 3B Eduardo Torrealba: 0-for-3, RS, BB, 2 K
RHP Drew Thorpe: (W, 4-0; 14-2 overall) 5.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 9 K Thorpe was a bit off tonight, but the outcome shouldn’t be disappointing. Since his promotion: 1.37 ERA in 26.1 IP (12 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 HR, 5 BB, 39 K). Overall, Thorpe has an insane 177/38 K/BB over 135.1 innings. He has allowed one or fewer runs 12 times this season (zero runs eight times) RHP Alex Mauricio: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K RHP Danny Watson: 1.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K Since promotion: 1.62 ERA (33.1 IP, 17 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 4 HR, 16 BB, 39 K). RHP Bailey Dees (S, 2): 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K Since promotion: 13 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 6 BB, 13 K. Overall, Dees owns a 72/21 K/BB over 55.1 innings.
Hudson Valley (67-56; 28-29 in the second half) (Lost to Wilmington, 7-5)
RF Anthony Hall: 3-for-5, RBI, RS Hall needed this. He is at .211/.309/.324 in 82 plate appearances at this level and .255/.365/.419 in 354 PA overall between here and Tampa. 2B Jared Serna: 2-for-5, 2B (5), RS, K Serna has a 10-game hitting streak. 1B T.J. Rumfield: 2-for-3, 2B (1), 2 RBI, K One has to assume that he won’t be rehabbing for long… 1B Spencer Henson: 0-for-2, K DH Antonio Gomez: 1-for-4, 2B (17), 2 K SS Alexander Vargas: 0-for-4, K 3B Jesus Rodriguez: 0-for-3, BB, SB (2) C Ramon Flores: 0-for-4 CF Cole Gabrielson: 1-for-4, 2B (1), RS, 2 K LF Jared Wegner: 3-for-4, 2B (3), HR (2), 2 RBI, 2 RS, K Wegner is hitting .306/.419/.556 in 43 PA at this level. He was drafted this year but is 24 years old, so you would expect a kid with his college experience to hit well in the lower minors.
RHP Yorlin Calderon: 3 IP, 2 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 K Calderon’s High-A debut. LHP Joel Valdez: (L, 3-7) 2.1 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 3 K RHP Luis Velasquez: 2.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K At this level: 2.23 ERA (36.1 IP, 21 H, 9 R, 9 ER, 2 HR, 18 BB, 44 K). He allowed four runs in 1.2 innings in his fourth appearance at this level but has been very good since.
Tampa (58-63; 27-28 in the second half) (Defeated St. Lucie, 15-3)
SS George Lombard Jr: 1-for-3, 3 RS, 2 BB, K, SB (1) Lombard’s first Low-A hit. Including the FCL playoffs, he has reached safely in all nine of his professional games. 2B Roc Riggio: 2-for-5, 2B (2), 2 RBI, K At this level: 11-for-50 (2 doubles, 9 RBI, 10 R, 17 BB, 16 K). DH Jackson Castillo: 0-for-4, 2 RBI, RS, BB, K C Omar Martinez: 1-for-2, HR (18), RBI, 3 RS, 3 BB Martinez is hitting .259 with a .844 OPS in 411 PA (16 doubles, 1 triple, 18 HR, 70 RBI, 64 R, 62 BB (15.1%), 106 K (25.8%)) 1B Josh Moylan: 2-for-4, HR (2), RBI, 2 RS, BB, K Martinez and Moylan went back-to-back. Moylan is hitting .296 with a .806 OPS (18-for-60, 2 HR, 9 RBI, 11 R, 13 BB, 17 K). As stated previously, Moylan was a sought-after non-drafted free agent this year. So far, he is doing well adjusting to the pro game. 3B Kiko Romero: 1-for-3, HR (2), 4 RBI, 3 RS, 2 BB For Tampa, Romero is at .205 with a .699 OPS in 94 plate appearances. He is a left-handed hitting corner infielder out of a big school (Arizona), so let’s see how he progresses. RF Garrett Martin: 0-for-2, HBP, 2 K Martin left the game after the HBP. PR-RF Daury Arias: 0-for-1, 2 RS, HBP, K CF Nelson Medina: 1-for-4, 3B (3), 3 RBI One of the most exciting (and rare nowadays) things in baseball is the bases-clearing triple. LF Tayler Aguilar: 1-for-4, RBI
RHP Jackson Fristoe: 3.2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 6 K An impressive Low-A debut for their 12th-round pick in the 2022 draft (Mississippi State). Since Low-A is a league that registers Savant data, I was able to get a look at Fristoe’s numbers. He averaged an impressive 96.1 on his 4-seam fastball, reaching as high as 98.1. His most used pitch (60%) was a cutter that averaged 91.1 (maxed out at 94.5). He mixed in a few sliders as well. Suffice to say, when you see a kid throwing this hard, you pay attention. One issue he had in the FCL was his control (24 BB in 27.1 innings), so that is something to monitor as they work with him. RHP Montana Semmel: (W, 4-1) 2.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K RHP Matt Keating: 0.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 0 K RHP Osiel Rodriguez: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K Since promotion: 4.96 ERA (16.1 IP, 11 H, 9 R, 9 ER, 2 HR, 14 BB, 22 K). His line is skewed by a 0 IP, 4 R, 3 BB effort on August 6. Life as a relief pitcher. LHP Geoffrey Gilbert: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K 3.22 ERA (44.2 IP, 34 H, 17 R, 16 ER, 1 HR, 26 BB, 55 K)
FCL Yankees (35-22; 1-2 in the playoffs)
They lost to the Braves in the championship series. Their season is over.
DSL Yankees (33-19)
Their season is over, as they missed the playoffs by a half-game.
DSL Bombers (27-26)
Their season is over.

POSTED ON SEPTEMBER 1, 2023 BY ADMIN News:
Nothing.
Scranton (64-64; 30-24 in the second half) (Lost to Rochester, 2-1, in ten innings)
CF Estevan Florial: 1-for-5, 2B (20), RS, 4 K This is a pretty typical night for Florial. Anyway, he reaches the 20/20/20 club (doubles, HR, SB). C Carlos Narvaez: 1-for-2, RBI, 2 BB, K Between here and Somerset: .250/.381/.406 in 339 PA (13 doubles, 10 HR, 36 RBI, 42 R, 53 BB, 86 K, 6-for-8 SB) 1B Andres Chaparro: 2-for-4, 2B (21) .249/.338/.459 in 518 PA (21 doubles, 2 triples, 23 HR, 79 RBI, 73 R, 59 BB, 109 K). For the second year in a row, he is hitting enough to get your attention. Will another organization give him a chance? RF Franchy Cordero: 1-for-4 DH Jamie Westbrook: 0-for-4, K 3B Jake Lamb: 0-for-3, BB LF Michael Hermosillo: 0-for-3, BB, K SS Jesus Bastidas: 0-for-4 2B Wilmer Difo: 0-for-3, BB, K
RHP Will Warren: 6 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 K At this level: 4.44 ERA in 77 IP (69 H, 48 R, 38 ER, 15 HR, 38 BB, 80 K). A 4.44 ERA in the offense-fest known as Triple-A is not so bad in 2023. In August, he pitched to a 3.67 ERA and 28/10 K/BB over 27 innings. LHP Anthony Misiewicz: 1.2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K LHP Nick Ramirez: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K RHP Michael Gomez (L, 1-5): 0 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K
Somerset (76-47; 34-21 in the second half) (Defeated Portland, 2-1)
2B Caleb Durbin: 2-for-4, 2B (10), HBP, 2 CS (7) Durbin has a 5-game hitting streak (including three multi-hit games). He is hitting ..290/.368/.426 in 174 PA at this level and .305/.402/.416 in 271 PA overall (15 doubles, 1 triple, 3 HR, 21 RBI, 44 R, 26 BB, 36 K, 36-for-44 SB). After spending most of the season at 2B/3B, Durbin has mixed in a few games at SS lately. DH Ben Rice: 0-for-5, 4 K I don’t care if you are Ben Rice or Don Mattingly – this game always finds a way to humble you. CF Spencer Jones: 0-for-3, BB Since promotion: 3-for-18 with a homer, three walks and seven strikeouts. Overall, he is hitting .263/.334/.445 in 481 PA (28 doubles, 4 triples, 14 HR, 61 RBI, 65 R, 45 BB, 140 K, 36-for-45 SB) C Agustin Ramirez: 1-for-4, RS, 2 K .242/.303/.352 in 99 PA since his promotion. He is now on a 7-game hitting streak (10-for-28) RF Elijah Dunham: 1-for-4, 2B (12), RS, K Scranton is playing with a short roster – I don’t know why Dunham hasn’t been promoted to fill one of those slots. He has 24 doubles, 15 HR, and 30 stolen bases between here and Scranton. 1B Mickey Gasper: 2-for-2, RBI, BB, SB (6), CS (1) Gasper is another player who can easily fill in a slot at Triple-A. He plays C/1B and even has a few games at 2B under his belt this season. LF Jeisson Rosario: 1-for-3, SF, RBI, K 3B Max Burt: 0-for-3, BB, K SS Eduardo Torrealba: 1-for-3, K
RHP Matt Sauer: (W, 4-3) 6.2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 11 K Sauer’s highest strikeout output since he struck out 17 on August 22, 2022. His season for Somerset: 3.68 ERA in 51.1 IP (39 H, 22 R, 21 ER, 6 HR, 21 BB, 65 K) LHP Josh Maciejewski: (S, 1) 2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K Between Hudson Valley/Somerset/Scranton: 1.93 ERA in 37.1 IP (31 H, 10 R, 8 ER, 2 HR, 10 BB, 42 K)
Hudson Valley (67-57; 28-30 in the second half) (Lost to Wilmington, 3-2)
DH Anthony Hall: 1-for-3, RS, BB, K SS Jared Serna: 1-for-4, RS Serna’s hitting streak reaches 11. He is hitting .289/.341/.373 in 91 PA since his promotion and .284/.348/.464 in 534 PA overall. His K% is 10.99 since his promotion so these pitchers are not fooling him. LF Christopher Familia: 1-for-4, RBI, K Familia has 11 doubles, 21 HR, and 60 RBI in 63 games this season. C Antonio Gomez: 2-for-3, SF, RBI 2B Ben Cowles: 1-for-3, BB Cowles has a 41-game on-base streak. 1B Spencer Henson: 1-for-4, K CF Cole Gabrielson: 0-for-3, HBP, K, CS (1) RF Jared Wegner: 1-for-4, 2B (4), K Wegner being 24 is what makes you nervous – if he continues to hit, you won’t worry about it as much. There are successful MLB careers that started late (Kevin Millar didn’t get his first extended look until he was 27, for example) 3B Marcos Cabrera: 0-for-3, K
RHP Zach Messinger: (L, 1-9) 3.2 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 2 K 4.31 ERA (96 IP, 81 H, 58 R, 46 ER, 13 HR, 52 BB, 113 K) LHP Clay Aguilar: 2.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 3 K 2.48 ERA (40 IP, 28 H, 13 R, 11 ER, 2 HR, 21 BB, 58 K) RHP Shane Gray: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
Tampa (59-63; 28-28 in the second half) (Defeated St. Lucie, 7-5)
SS George Lombard Jr: 0-for-2, RS, 2 BB Lombard is only 1-for-8 at this level (very small sample size!) but has drawn five walks. He has reached base in all 11 of his professional games. 2B Roc Riggio: 0-for-4, K CF Jackson Castillo: 2-for-4, HR (1), 3 RBI, RS, 2 K Castillo’s first professional HR. He is only 20 years old. C Omar Martinez: 0-for-4, K 3B Kiko Romero: 1-for-3, RS, BB, K 1B Dylan Jasso: 0-for-4 DH Nelson Medina: 2-for-3, 2 RS, BB Medina is 4-for-11 with two triples, three RBI, and four runs scored since coming off of the IL. RF Tayler Aguilar: 1-for-2, 2B (13), RS, 2 BB, SB (8) LF Daury Arias: 0-for-2, RBI, RS, 2 BB, SB (11)
RHP Luis Gil: 2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K Gil topped out at 98.5 in his first rehab appearance. RHP Nolberto Henriquez: 1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, HR RHP Hayden Merda: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 2 K RHP Ocean Gabonia: 2.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 K RHP Adam Stone: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K RHP Alex Bustamante (S, 3): 0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K

Yankees MILB 9/2: Sean Hermann Tosses 8 Shutout Innings
POSTED ON SEPTEMBER 2, 2023 BY ADMIN News:
C/1B/DH Josh Breaux is back up with Scranton. The Railriders are in need of bodies and Breaux is a logical prospect to promote. I think OF Elijah Dunham also belongs, but they are resisting that move for some reason.
Scranton (65-64; 31-24 in the second half) (Defeated Rochester, 7-2)
LF Estevan Florial: 1-for-4, 2B (21), SF, 3 RBI, K Florial’s 9th game with 3+ RBI this season. 2B Jamie Westbrook: 0-for-3, RS, 2 BB, K 1B Andres Chaparro: 1-for-4, SF, RBI Chaparro’s 80th RBI this season. DH Franchy Cordero: 1-for-4, RS, BB, K, SB (6) 3B Jake Lamb: 2-for-5, 2B (6), RS, K C Rodolfo Duran: 3-for-5, 2 2B (15), 2 RBI, K .254/.325/.454 in 228 PA (15 doubles, 1 triple, 8 HR, 31 RBI, 22 R, 20 BB, 51 K) RF Michael Hermosillo: 1-for-5, K SS Wilmer Difo: 0-for-2, 2 RS, 2 BB CF Brandon Lockridge: 2-for-3, 2 RS, BB, 2 SB (21) Lockridge, who is hitiing .294 with a .738 OPS at this level, is now 38-for-42 in the stolen base department between here and Somerset.
RHP Clayton Beeter: (W, 2-4; 8-6 overall) 5 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 3 K At this level: 5.15 ERA in 50.2 IP (45 H, 30 R, 29 ER, 11 HR, 31 BB, 58 K). Beeter mostly features his fastball (52% tonight) and slider (42%). Some still think his future is out of the bullpen. RHP Zach Greene: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 1 K RHP Ron Marinaccio: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
Somerset (76-48; 34-22 in the second half) (Lost to Portland, 2-1)
SS Caleb Durbin: 0-for-4 Between here and Hudson Valley, Durbin’s K% is 6.2% in 275 PA. Amongst prospects with at least 250 plate appearances, that is second-best in all of minor league baseball (27-year-old Ernie Clement (AAA, Toronto) is at 4.9% entering today) C Ben Rice: 1-for-4, 2B (9), RS, K Rice has 33 extra-base hits (14 doubles, 1 triple, 18 HR) in 62 games. Last year, he swatted 18 extra-base hits in 66 games. CF Spencer Jones: 0-for-4, 2 K 3-for-22 since his promotion with a homer, three walks, and nine strikeouts. You may have heard about an article talking about how Spencer Jones “lacks athleticism.” Anyone who writes or says that has no clue what they are talking about. His athleticism is what makes him such a tantalizing prospect despite some warts (K%, GB%). Some of the old-school writers are so desperate for attention that they are jumping on the “Yankees are dysfunctional” bandwagon and literally making stuff up. There is enough to complain about without the need to do that. DH Agustin Ramirez: 0-for-4, 3 K 1B Mickey Gasper: 1-for-3, 2B (6), RBI .256/.364/.369 in 239 PA (8 doubles, 5 HR, 24 RBI, 32 R, 28 BB (11.7%), 40 K (16.7%), 8-for-9 SB) 2B Anthony Seigler: 0-for-2, BB, K, SB (6) RF Aaron Palensky: 0-for-3 Since promotion: .196/.336/.411 in 211 PA (10 doubles, 1 triple, 8 HR, 28 RBI, 37 R, 28 BB, 49 K, 11-for-12 SB). LF Grant Richardson: 1-for-3, K, CS (1) Since promotion: 7-for-20 with a pair of home runs. He has yet to walk and has eight strikeouts. 3B Max Burt: 0-for-3, K
RHP Blane Abeyta (L, 8-7): 5.2 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 4 BB, 3 K, HR 5.71 ERA in 116.2 IP (120 H, 77 R, 74 ER, 15 HR, 11 HR, 50 BB, 114 K) RHP Jack Neely: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K Since promotion: 15 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 2 HR, 3 BB, 20 K RHP Tanner Myatt: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 0 K 2.96 ERA in 51.2 IP (30 H, 20 R, 17 ER, 3 HR, 36 BB, 62 K). Myatt is a “post-hype” prospect who is still only 25.
Hudson Valley (68-57; 29-30 in the second half) (Defeated Wilmington, 8-5)
RF Anthony Hall: 1-for-5, 3B (1), 2 RBI, RS, K Hall extends his hitting streak to six. 2B Jared Serna: 1-for-5, 3B (2), RBI It isn’t often you see back-to-back triples. Serna is the owner of a 12-game hitting streak (16-for-51 (.314; 3 doubles, 2 triples)). 1B T.J. Rumfield: 1-for-4, RS 1B Spencer Henson: 0-for-1, RS C Jesus Rodriguez: 3-for-4, RS, BB, SB (3) Rodriguez is hitting .366 with a .993 OPS since his promotion. Overall, between here and Tampa, he has 18 stolen bases in 22 attempts. Why don’t you see his name prominently on the Yankees’ prospect lists? His overall profile is likely not “sexy” enough and he doesn’t have a set position (which may add to his future value, especially if he can play some catcher). Here is what I see: A kid who is hitting .314 in 198 career minor league games. It isn’t like he is old either (only 21). Bottom line? Who cares about prospect lists – just keep on hitting. SS Alexander Vargas: 1-for-5, RS, 2 SB (15) 3B Ben Cowles: 0-for-4, SF, RBI, RS, K His on-base streak ends at 41, but his night was still productive enough. LF Christopher Familia: 2-for-3, SF, RBI, RS, BB, K 61 RBI and 55 runs in 64 games between here and Tampa. DH Rafael Flores: 1-for-4, RS, K CF Cole Gabrielson: 1-for-3, 2B (2), RBI, BB, 2 K
RHP Cam Schlittler: 0.2 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 0 K This isn’t what someone dreams about in their first start after a promotion. That said, who cares? Move on to the next. RHP Cole Ayers: 2.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, HR Since his promotion: 2.70 ERA (16.2 IP, 10 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 2 HR, 6 BB, 21 K). Overall, Ayers has an 85/23 K/BB over 63 IP. RHP Mason Vinyard: (W, 2-0) 2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K Since his promotion: 2.73 ERA (33 IP, 23 H, 11 R, 10 ER, 2 HR, 19 BB, 37 K) RHP Anderson Munoz: 2.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K At this level: 0.93 ERA (9.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 15 K). Munoz is 25 and missed the entire 2022 season, so this is essentially a rehab year. RHP Harrison Cohen: 1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
Tampa (60-63; 29-28 in the second half) (Defeated St. Lucie, 2-1, in ten innings. The Tarpons won’t make the playoffs, but an over-.500 record is still within reach)
SS Brenny Escanio: 0-for-4 RF Jackson Castillo: 1-for-4 DH Omar Martinez: 0-for-4, K .254/.368/.459 in 419 PA. This is his first taste of full-season ball and he is handling it fine. PR Roc Riggio: 0-for-0, RS 1B Josh Moylan: 0-for-3, RS, BB, 2 K 3B Dylan Jasso: 1-for-3, 2B (1), RBI, K Jasso’s first Low-A hit is a big one: A game-tying RBI double in the bottom of the 10th. CF Nelson Medina: 0-for-3, BB, 2 K LF Tayler Aguilar: 1-for-4, RBI, K Walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the 10th. 2B Jose Colmenares: 0-for-3, 2 K C Manuel Palencia: 1-for-3, K 10-for-28 (.357) since his promotion with four RBI, two walks, and two strikeouts.
RHP Sean Hermann: 8 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K Hermann only needed 71 pitches to get through eight innings. While there might be room for growth (he is only 20), Hermann’s ticket up the chain will rely more on efficiency than pure power. Between here and Hudson Valley (one start): 4.98 ERA (106.2 IP, 115 H, 68 R, 59 ER, 9 HR, 44 BB, 86 K) RHP Luis Arejula: (W, 1-0) 2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
FCL Yankees (35-22; 1-2 in the playoffs)
They lost to the Braves in the championship series. Their season is over.
DSL Yankees (33-19)
Their season is over, as they missed the playoffs by a half-game.

Yankees MILB 9/3: George Lombard Jr.: 4 Hits, 3 RBI
POSTED ON SEPTEMBER 3, 2023 BY ADMIN News:
No news to report.
Scranton (65-65; 31-25 in the second half) (Lost to Rochester, 10-3)
LF Estevan Florial: 0-for-5, K Last 6 games: 3-for-28. 2B Jamie Westbrook: 1-for-5, HR (20), RBI, RS Westbrook reaches 20 HR for the first time in his professional career. C Carlos Narvaez: 3-for-4, 2B (9), HR (9), RBI, 2 RS, BB, CS (1) Narvaez has 11 HR between here and Somerset, matching his personal best for HR in a season set last year. The difference? He hit .194/.327/.383 last season and is hitting .257/.387/.425 this season. RF Franchy Cordero: 2-for-4, K 1B Rodolfo Duran: 1-for-2, 2 BB CF Brandon Lockridge: 1-for-3, RBI, BB, K .301/.380/.421 in 300 PA between here and Somerset (14 doubles, 4 triples, 3 HR, 26 RBI, 38 R, 33 BB, 67 K, 38-for-42 SB) 3B Jake Lamb: 1-for-4 DH Michael Hermosillo: 0-for-4 SS Jesus Bastidas: 1-for-3
RHP Mitch Spence: (L, 8-8) 5 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 6 K, 2 HR 4.66 ERA (143 IP, 147 H, 82 R, 74 ER, 26 HR, 47 BB, 135 K) LHP Matt Krook: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K 0.92 ERA (29.1 IP, 8 H, 6 R, 3 ER, 0 HR, 20 BB, 49 K). I bet the Yankees wish they had more than 28 slots in September, as Krook would be a good candidate to allocate some innings to. RHP Zach McAllister: 0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K RHP Michael Gomez: 0.2 IP, 2 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 0 K RHP Aaron McGarity: 0.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 0 K
Somerset (76-49; 34-23 in the second half) (Lost to Portland, 8-3)
DH Caleb Durbin: 2-for-3, 2B (11), HR (4), RBI, RS Durbin hits a lead-off home run. I am not sure why he was pulled from the game – something to monitor, given his injury earlier this season. Anyway, he has five multi-hit games in his last nine games. In that stretch, he has six doubles, a home run, and four stolen bases. PH-DH Aaron Palensky: 0-for-2, K 1B Ben Rice: 0-for-3, BB, 2 K Since his 4-for-6, 2 HR, 5 RBI night: 2-for-16, 1 BB, 9 K. Baseball is a funny sport. C Agustin Ramirez: 1-for-4, 2 K Since promotion: .232/.290/.333 in 107 PA. Overall, he is hitting .281/.374/.471 in 460 PA (21 doubles, 18 HR, 68 RBI, 69 R, 58 BB, 78 K, 11-for-15 SB) CF Elijah Dunham: 0-for-4, K 2B Mickey Gasper: 1-for-3, RS, BB RF Grant Richardson: 1-for-4, RS, K LF Jeisson Rosario: 1-for-4, K 3B Max Burt: 2-for-4, RBI, SB (15) SS Eduardo Torrealba: 1-for-4
RHP Yoendrys Gomez: (L, 0-3) 3.2 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, HR 3.47 ERA (57 IP, 43 H, 24 R, 22 ER, 6 HR, 29 BB, 66 K). After making 15 starts in 2022, he is up to 17 starts in 2023. He struggled a bit today but did get up to 79 pitches, which is a new career high. RHP Bailey Dees: 1.1 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 1 K RHP Danny Watson: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K Between here and Hudson Valley: 1.53 ERA (59 IP, 29 H, 12 R, 10 ER, 5 HR, 25 BB, 79 K). Watson had a 5.55 BB/9 in 2022. In 2023, it is now 3.81. Furthermore, he isn’t sacrificing strikeouts for control (12.05/9 in 2023; 10.18/9 in 2022). RHP Alex Mauricio: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K 2.91 ERA (46.1 IP, 38 H, 16 R, 15 ER, 4 HR, 14 BB, 42 K). This is his 10th consecutive scoreless outing.
Hudson Valley (68-58; 29-31 in the second half) (Lost to Wilmington, 5-3)
SS Jared Serna: 1-for-4, RS Serna extends his hitting streak to 13 (17-for-55; .309). He has 18 strikeouts in 100 PA (18%) at this level and 85 strikeouts in 543 PA overall (15.7%). While that is a slight uptick, it does show you that this level is not overwhelming him at all. 3B Ben Cowles: 1-for-4, 3B (2), 2 RBI, RS, K DH T.J. Rumfield: 0-for-3, SF, RBI, K I believe this is his first full game since his rehab stint began – next up is a full game in the field. The season has a few weeks left, and he will spend the majority of that in Somerset I would think. 1B Spencer Henson: 0-for-4, K C Rafael Flores: 0-for-3, BB RF Jared Wegner: 1-for-4, K 13-for-43 at this level. CF Cole Gabrielson: 0-for-3, BB, K 2B Luis Santos: 0-for-2, BB, SB (9) LF Kyle Battle: 1-for-3, RS, 2 K
RHP Baron Stuart: (L, 2-3) 5.2 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 2 HR LHP Joel Valdez: 1.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 K RHP Shane Gray: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
Tampa (60-64; 29-29 in the second half) (Lost to St. Lucie, 7-4)
SS George Lombard Jr: 4-for-5, 2B (1), 3 RBI, RS, K Lombard has reached base safely in all 11 of his professional games (including playoffs). This is his first professional 4-hit game and he is now 5-for-13 with five walks and four strikeouts at this level and 10-for-25 (.400) with two doubles, ten walks, six strikeouts, and a 4-for-4 stolen base rate overall (if I include his FCL playoff stint, he is 13-for-36 (.361)) DH Roc Riggio: 0-for-3, BB, K, SB (3) .193/.395/.228 at this level with two doubles, 18 walks, and 18 strikeouts (23.7%) PH Josh Moylan: 0-for-1, K RF Jackson Castillo: 0-for-5, 3 K C Omar Martinez: 2-for-3, 2 BB, K Martinez has a 15.1% BB (25.7% K, which he will probably want to take down a bit) 2B Brenny Escanio: 0-for-4, BB 1B Dylan Jasso: 0-for-3, BB, K CF Nelson Medina: 1-for-3, RS, BB, K, CS (2) LF Daury Arias: 0-for-2, 2 RS, BB, HBP 3B Beau Brewer: 0-for-2, BB, HBP
RHP Sebastian Keane: (L, 0-1) 2.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 6 K Keane’s first professional start (the concept isn’t foreign to him as he started in college). He tossed 45 pitches and featured a five-pitch mix (4-seam, slider, curve, sinker, change) RHP Yoljeldriz Diaz: 0.1 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 0 K RHP Alex Bustamante: 0.1 IP, 1 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 1 K RHP Montana Semmel: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K 4.66 ERA (19.1 IP, 21 H, 14 R, 10 ER, 3 HR, 6 BB, 19 K). LHP Geoffrey Gilbert: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K 3.09 ERA (46.2 IP, 35 H, 17 R, 16 ER, 1 HR, 26 BB, 57 K). Not a bad first taste of professional ball. He maxed out at 93.8 with his fastball today. RHP Matt Keating: 1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K 3.64 ERA (59.1 IP, 58 H, 30 R, 24 ER, 5 HR, 33 BB, 86 K). Technically, this isn’t his first taste of professional ball as he threw one FCL inning in 2022. RHP Nolberto Henriquez: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
FCL Yankees (35-22; 1-2 in the playoffs)
They lost to the Braves in the championship series. Their season is over.
DSL Yankees (33-19)

Yankees MILB 9/5: Jared Serna (3 Hits) Increases Hitting Streak to 14
POSTED ON SEPTEMBER 5, 2023 BY ADMIN News:
SS Trey Sweeney was activated today for Somerset. IF Caleb Durbin, who left the game early the other day, was placed on the injured list.
Scranton (65-66; 31-26 in the second half) (Lost to Columbus, 6-5)
CF Estevan Florial: 2-for-4, 2B (22), HR (25), 3 RBI, RS, BB, K, SB (24) .279/.378/.550 in 458 PA (22 doubles, 4 triples, 25 HR, 72 RBI, 76 R, 64 BB, 136 K, 24-for-34 SB) 2B Jamie Westbrook: 1-for-5, RBI, K 1B Andres Chaparro: 1-for-3, RS, BB RF Franchy Cordero: 0-for-3, BB, K C Rodolfo Duran: 1-for-4, 2 K 3B Jake Lamb: 1-for-4, RBI, K DH Josh Breaux: 0-for-3, BB, K, SB (1) Breaux is 5-for-5 stealing bases in his career (307 games). That is my random, useless fact of the night. SS Wilmer Difo: 0-for-3, RS, BB, 2 K LF Brandon Lockridge: 1-for-3, 2 RS, BB, 2 K, 2 SB (23) Lockridge joins Jasson Dominguez in the organization’s 40 SB club (he had 17 with Somerset). With Durbin injured and Dominguez onto bigger things, Lockridge has an easy lane to the SB title. In a league where teams are looking for more “athleticism” and base stealing, I must wonder if Lockridge wil find himself valued highly this winter.
LHP Edgar Barclay: 5 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, HR Since promotion: 7.45 ERA (29 IP, 28 H, 27 R, 24 ER, 24 BB, 27 K, 9 HR) RHP Zac Houston: 0.2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 1 K LHP Anthony Misiewicz (L, 3-2): 1.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K RHP Matt Bowman: 1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
Somerset (76-50; 34-24 in the second half) (Lost to Erie, 9-7, in ten innings. Erie (71-55) plays in the opposite division in the Eastern League. Both teams have a chance to win both the first and second half titles)
SS Trey Sweeney: 0-for-3, 2 K Sweeney’s first game since August 2nd. It is good to see that he was able to get back before the season ends. He is hitting .248/.363/.416 in 432 PA (18 doubles, 2 triples, 13 HR, 49 RBI, 62 R, 59 BB, 85 K, 16-for-23 SB) SS Eduardo Torrealba: 2-for-3, 2B (4), RBI, K CF Spencer Jones: 0-for-5 Jones is 3-for-27 with a homer since his promotion. C Ben Rice: 2-for-3, 2B (10), 2 BB, CS (2) Rice was in a little 2-for-16 slump entering tonight, so this was a nice way to break out of that. 1B T.J. Rumfield: 0-for-4, BB, 2 K Rumfield is back from his rehab stint. LF Elijah Dunham: 0-for-4, 2 RS, BB, K, SB (19) RF Aaron Palensky: 0-for-4, K 2B Anthony Seigler: 1-for-4, RBI, RS, BB DH Jeisson Rosario: 2-for-4, 2B (16), RBI, 2 RS, BB, K 3B Max Burt: 3-for-5, HR (12), 4 RBI, 2 RS, K Burt with his fifth 3+ RBI game this season. He also has three 3+ hit games.
RHP Richard Fitts: 6 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, HR 3.51 ERA in 141 IP (122 H, 56 R, 55 ER, 20 HR, 38 BB, 147 K). He allowed two runs in both the second and third innings but closed strong with three scoreless innings. RHP Jesus Liranzo: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K RHP Jack Neely (L, 1-2): 2 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 4 K, 2 HR An error in the 9th and the ghost runner in the 10th didn’t help his cause, but he did allow those two homers. At this level: 2.65 ERA in 17 IP (11 H, 9 R, 5 ER, 4 HR, 3 BB, 24 K)
Hudson Valley (69-58; 30-31 in the second half) (Destroyed Jersey Shore, 13-0)
RF Anthony Hall: 0-for-5, RBI 2B Jared Serna: 3-for-4, 2B (6), 2 RBI, 3 RS, BB, 2 SB (9) Serna increases his hitting streak to 14 by compiling his 11th 3+ hit game (first with Hudson Valley). Between here and Tampa, he has 27 doubles and 28 stolen bases (.286/.350/.468 in 548 PA). It isn’t impossible that we will see him start 2024 in Double-A. I bet they give him a few weeks or so down here though. LF Jesus Rodriguez: 2-for-3, 3B (1), RBI, RS, 2 BB, SB (4) Since his promotion: .378 (28-for-74; 5 doubles, 1 triple, 2 HR, 15 RBI, 11 R, 15 BB, 13 K, 4-for-5 SB). He has three multi-hit games in his last four games played. C Antonio Gomez: 1-for-5, 2B (18), 2 RBI, RS, K SS Alexander Vargas: 2-for-5, 2 2B (17), 2 RBI, 2 RS, SB (16) Vargas at his best is a disrupter. Consistency has been an issue, though. 3B Ben Cowles: 0-for-2, 2 RS, 3 BB, 2 SB (22) DH Christopher Familia: 1-for-4, SF, RBI, RS, K 1B Rafael Flores: 2-for-4, HR (8), 4 RBI, 2 RS, BB, K Flores has three home runs in his last seven games. CF Cole Gabrielson: 1-for-4, RS, HBP
LHP Brock Selvidge: 6.2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K At this level: 3.38 ERA in 45.1 IP (38 H, 18 R, 17 ER, 2 HR, 12 BB, 42 K). For Tampa, his ERA was also 3.38 (77.1 IP) LHP Clay Aguilar: 2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K 2.34 ERA (42.1 IP, 28 H, 13 R, 11 ER, 2 HR, 22 BB, 63 K)
Tampa (60-65; 29-30 in the second half) (Lost to Lakeland, 10-3)
SS George Lombard Jr.: 0-for-4, RBI, BB, K Lombard has reached base safely in all 12 of his pro games (that includes the three playoff games down in the FCL) RF Jackson Castillo: 1-for-4, BB, SB (1) Castillo is 4-for-25 (.160) at this level with a homer and five runs batted in. 1B Josh Moylan: 0-for-4, RS, BB, 2 K C Omar Martinez: 0-for-3, RS, BB, K 3B Kiko Romero: 2-for-4, K .224/.353/.365 in 102 PA at this level. 2B Brenny Escanio: 3-for-4, 2B (9), RS, K Escanio has struggled to get his season going, but he did put up a .286/.367/.357 August with a 5-for-5 SB rate. CF Nelson Medina: 0-for-3, BB, 2 K LF Tayler Aguilar: 1-for-3, 2 RBI, BB, 2 K DH Daury Arias: 1-for-3, 2B (13), BB
RHP Jackson Fristoe: (L, 0-1) 1.2 IP, 1 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 3 K Fristoe maxed out at 98.2 MPH (averaged 95.2). If a kid can throw this hard, you can work with him to try to figure out everything else. RHP Ocean Gabonia: 1.1 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 2 K, HR RHP Luis Arejula: 1.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 2 K RHP Adam Stone: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K RHO Osiel Rodriguez: 2 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, HR Rodriguez averaged 93 MPH (maxed at 94.2) with his sinker. He is a sinker/changeup/slider guy who mixed in a few curves tonight as well.

Yankees MILB 9/12: Will Warren Solid Again
POSTED ON SEPTEMBER 12, 2023 BY ADMIN News:
The Yankees announced that RHP Drew Thorpe (who should be the organization’s Pitcher of the Year) has been placed on the 7-day IL. No matter how minor the injury may be, he’s done for the year. They aren’t going to push him for the Double-A playoffs.
In his first professional season, Thorpe was dominant down in Hudson Valley, pitching to a 2.81 ERA (3.30 FIP) over 109 innings with a 32.4% K and 7.7% BB. That was more than enough to earn a promotion to Somerset, where he was more dominant. In five starts for the Patriots, he pitched to a 1.48 ERA (2.15 FIP) over 30.1 IP with a 40% K and 4.5% BB. Thorpe isn’t Rule 5 eligible until after the 2025 season, but that won’t stop the Yankees from using him in 2024 once he is ready.
RHP Danny Watson, one of their best relief prospects, was also placed on the IL. In 45 games between Hudson Valley and Somerset, Watson pitched to a 1.58 ERA over 62.2 IP with a 32.7% K and 10.0% BB. He held opponents to a .138 BAA. Hopefully, the injury is minor because he should be in the 2024 bullpen mix at some point. He isn’t Rule 5 eligible until after the 2024 season.
OF Nelson Medina was promoted from Tampa all the way up to Scranton today. Don’t read a lot into that – he is not likely to be playing in Scranton to start 2024. Medina, soon to be 23, hit .276/.380/.479 in 192 PA for Tampa with six home runs and 28 runs batted in. I can’t tell you how the decision-making process works (Elijah Dunham would have been a good choice to bring back to Scranton), but this is usually a move to get a warm body onto the roster. The Railriders recently lost Estevan Florial to MLB promotion after losing Jasson Dominguez and Everson Pereira.
The Somerset Patriots received some pitching from Hudson Valley today, as LHP Clay Aguilar, RHP Harrison Cohen, RHP Zach Messinger, and RHP Anderson Munoz are now on the roster. This is a good indication that these four pitchers are scheduled to start 2024 at this level. Munoz started 2023 at Somerset before an injury sidelined him for a significant amount of time. The Yankees aren’t loaded with LHP, so there is an opportunity for Aguilar to make some noise.
With Tampa’s season over, Hudson Valley received some players for the playoffs (which started tonight): RHP Luis Arejula RHP Jackson Fristoe LHP Geoffrey Gilbert RHP Nolberto Henriquez RHP Sebastian Keane RHP Matt Keating
Just like with the kids promoted to Somerset, this is a good indicator that at least some of these pitchers will begin 2024 in Hudson Valley.
Scranton (68-68; 34-28 in the second half) (Defeated Buffalo, 4-1)
CF Brandon Lockridge: 0-for-2, HBP, K PR-CF Nelson Medina: 0-for-1, RS, K C Carlos Narvaez: 1-for-4, 2B (11), RBI, 2 K .252/.379/.402 in 301 plate appearances since his promotion. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Yankees look for a trade partner before they need to submit their 40-man roster this winter. RF Franchy Cordero: 2-for-2, RS, 2 BB, SB (7) 1B Andres Chaparro: 1-for-4, 2 K 3B Jamie Westbrook: 1-for-4, RBI, K DH Jake Lamb: 1-for-4, 2 RBI LF Michael Hermosillo: 0-for-3, K SS Jesus Bastidas: 0-for-2, BB 2B Wilmer Difo: 1-for-2, RS, BB
RHP Will Warren: 5.2 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 4 K At this level: 3.91 ERA (89.2 IP, 76 H, 49 R, 39 ER, 15 HR, 43 BB, 93 K). Entering today, the league ERA was 5.53 – which should show you just how well Warren has been pitching lately. RHP Zac Houston: (W, 2-1) 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K RHP Aaron McGarity: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K RHP Michael Gomez (S, 1): 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K 5.40 ERA (61.2 IP, 59 H, 45 R, 37 ER, 6 HR, 40 BB, 54 K)
Somerset (80-52; 38-26 in the second half) (Defeated New Hampshire, 3-2)
SS Trey Sweeney: 1-for-5, RS Since coming off of the IL: 3-for-20 with three walks and four strikeouts. Overall, he is hitting .245 with a .766 OPS (18 doubles, 2 triples, 13 HR, 49 RBI, 63 R, 62 BB, 87 K, 17-for-24 SB) C Ben Rice: 0-for-3, RS, BB 1B T.J. Rumfield: 0-for-3, RBI, BB, K CF Spencer Jones: 0-for-4, 3 K LF Elijah Dunham: 2-for-4, 2 RBI, K DH Jeisson Rosario: 0-for-3, BB, 2 K 2B Anthony Seigler: 0-for-3, BB, SB (7) It is too bad that the injury bug hit Seigler so hard – he is an athletic kid who switch hits and can take a walk. The rest of his offensive game simply hasn’t been there. RF Grant Richardson: 1-for-3, BB, K, 2 SB (4) Richardson is 18-for-21 stealing bases between here and Hudson Valley. He is 13-for-38 since his promotion with three home runs. 3B Max Burt: 1-for-4, RS, K, SB (18)
RHP Matt Sauer: (W, 5-4) 5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 5 K, HR 3.63 ERA (62 IP, 47 H, 26 R, 25 ER, 10 HR, 27 BB, 74 K). Does he survive the Rule 5 draft again? RHP Carlos Gomez: 2.1 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K RHP Tanner Myatt: (S, 6) 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K 2.80 ERA (54.2 IP, 29 H, 20 R, 17 ER, 3 HR, 38 BB, 67 K). As usual, Myatt is tough to hit but walks too many hitters.
Hudson Valley (70-62; 31-35 in the second half) (Lost to Jersey Shore, 2-1. They fall behind in the best-of-3 series, 1-0. The final two games will be at home)
RF Anthony Hall: 0-for-5, 2 K SS Jared Serna: 0-for-4, 2 K DH Jesus Rodriguez: 2-for-4 Of course, Rodriguez would compile a multi-hit game in Game 1. During the regular season, between here and Tampa, he finished at .310/.399/.450 in 460 PA (20 doubles, 4 triples, 9 HR, 62 RBI, 66 R, 55 BB, 70 K, 21-for-25 SB) LF Christopher Familia: 2-for-4, 2B (1), K A multi-hit game for Familia. It will be interesting to see what he does in 2024 after a power surge in 2023. 3B Ben Cowles: 0-for-3, BB 2B Alexander Vargas: 1-for-2, 3B (1), RS, 2 BB Vargas had an organization-leading six triples during the regular season. C Rafael Flores: 1-for-3, RBI, BB 1B Spencer Henson: 0-for-3, BB CF Cole Gabrielson: 0-for-4, K
RHP Yorlin Calderon: 5.2 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K A sparkling performance in Game 1 for Calderon, who entered this game with two High-A starts to his name. LHP Joel Valdez: 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K RHP Cole Ayers: (L, 0-1) 1 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 0 K, HR
Tampa (61-69; 30-34 in the second half)
Their season is over.
FCL Yankees (35-22; 1-2 in the playoffs)
They lost to the Braves in the championship series. Their season is over.

Yankees MILB 9/13: Trey Sweeney: 3 Hits
POSTED ON SEPTEMBER 13, 2023 BY ADMIN News:
OF Aaron Palensky is now a member of the Scranton Railriders.
Palensky has been the organization’s leader in wRC+ for most of the season (especially after Ben Rice‘s injury). He hit .252/.369/.531 in 369 plate appearances between Hudson Valley and Somerset with 21 stolen bases in 22 attempts.
That said, most of the good stuff happened in Hudson Valley, where he hit an astonishing .352/.434/.744 (209 wRC+) in 143 plate appearances. For Somerset, the line was .183/.327/.383 (98 wRC+) in 226 PA. The walk rate was still strong and his K% was similar. One major difference? His BABIP was .405 in Hudson Valley and .202 for Somerset.
Palensky is Rule 5 eligible. I don’t think he will be drafted, but you never know.
Scranton also received C Edinson Duran from all the way down in the FCL. This is likely a “warm body” kind of transaction. The 21-year-old hit .314/.405/.457 (130 wRC+) in 121 plate appearances with a pair of home runs and 17 runs batted in.
OF Brandon Lockridge, who stole 40 bases between Somerset and Scranton this season, was placed on the 7-day IL today. If this is the end of his campaign, he may have played his last game as a member of the Yankees organization. I think Lockridge will make MLB as I can see him as a Tim Locastro type. That’s not a bad outcome, folks.
Scranton (68-70; 34-30 in the second half) (Lost to Buffalo, 9-1)
“Why aren’t you updating the standings anymore?” Durham (41-23) put together an extended period of exceptional play while Scranton started to fall back. If they somehow make it close again, I’ll update this space again. It doesn’t seem likely.
3B Jake Lamb: 1-for-3, BB Jake Lamb leading off games in mid-September. That is what happens when the prospects are either in MLB or injured. C Carlos Narvaez: 2-for-4, 2 K Narvaez is 9-for-29 (.310) in September with three doubles and a homer. 1B Andres Chaparro: 0-for-3, BB RF Franchy Cordero: 0-for-4, 3 K DH-2B Jamie Westbrook: 0-for-3, BB, K LF Michael Hermosillo: 1-for-3, BB, K, SB (8), CS (2) SS-P Jesus Bastidas: 1-for-4, HR (10), RBI, RS, 2 K Bastidas has 13 HR in 109 games between here and Somerset. 2B-SS Wilmer Difo: 0-for-3, 2 K CF Nelson Medina: 0-for-2, BB, K, SB (1) Medina’s first Triple-A start. He was 8-for-11 stealing bases down in Tampa.
RHP Zach Greene: 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K RHP Jesus Liranzo: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K Recently promoted, the 28-year-old spent the majority of his season in Somerset. The Yankees purchased him from Lancaster (Independent) on June 27th. LHP Matt Krook: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K LHP Josh Maciejewski: (L, 3-1) 1.1 IP, 4 H, 8 R, 7 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, HR Entering tonight, Maciejewski had allowed eight earned runs in 26 games (38.2 IP). RHP Ron Marinaccio: 1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K RHP Jesus Bastidas: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K His first career pitching performance is a clean one…
Somerset (80-53; 38-27 in the second half) (Lost to New Hampshire, 5-1)
SS Trey Sweeney: 3-for-5, 2B (19), SB (18) Sweeney has seven 3-hit games this season. He is hitting .249 with a .773 OPS in 457 PA (19 doubles, 2 triples, 13 HR, 49 RBI, 64 R, 62 BB, 87 K, 18-for-25 SB). I would assume he was on his way to Scranton at some point before his injury – maybe they still get his feet wet, but it really is not a big deal. May as well just let him play here through the playoffs. C Ben Rice: 0-for-4, RS, BB, 3 K LF Elijah Dunham: 1-for-5, 3 K CF Spencer Jones: 1-for-5, K, SB (6) Jones’ 41st stolen base between here and Hudson Valley. Unless Lockridge gets back, Jones is going to lead the organization in stolen bases this season. 1B T.J. Rumfield: 0-for-2, 2 BB, 2 K RF Jeisson Rosario: 1-for-3, RBI, BB, K 2B Mickey Gasper: 0-for-4, K DH Grant Richardson: 2-for-3, 2B (1), BB, K, SB (5) Richardson has 16 homers and 19 stolen bases between here and Hudson Valley. He is now 15-for-41 since his promotion. 3B Max Burt: 0-for-4, K
RHP Blane Abeyta: (L, 8-8) 4.1 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 0 BB, 4 K, 2 HR 5.67 ERA (127 IP, 130 H, 83 R, 80 ER, 18 HR, 51 BB, 126 K) RHP Bailey Dees: 2.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, HR Since promotion: 4.50 ERA (20 IP, 16 H, 11 R, 10 ER, 1 HR, 11 BB, 18 K). Overall, Dees has a 77/26 K/BB over 61.2 IP. RHP Anderson Munoz: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K Munoz started 2023 at this level (two games before going down to injury). He dominated during his stay in Hudson Valley (12.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 18 K)
Hudson Valley (70-62; 31-35 in the second half)
They lost to Jersey Shore last night in Game 1. The series continues tomorrow. The Renegades must win the next two games to advance.
Tampa (61-69; 30-34 in the second half)
Their season is over.
FCL Yankees (35-22; 1-2 in the playoffs)
They lost to the Braves in the championship series. Their season is over.
DSL Yankees (33-19)
Their season is over, as they missed the playoffs by a half-game.

Yankees MILB 9/14: Clayton Beeter Ks 13
POSTED ON SEPTEMBER 14, 2023 BY ADMIN News:
LHP Clay Aguilar stayed in Double-A for 24 hours or so. He was promoted to Scranton today.
The Rule 5 eligible 24-year-old pitched to a 2.25 ERA (3.30 FIP) over 44 innings down in Hudson Valley with a 34.1% K and 13% BB. He missed the entire 2022 season.
Scranton (68-71; 34-31 in the second half) (Lost to Buffalo, 7-1)
RF Franchy Cordero: 1-for-3, 2 BB, K DH Carlos Narvaez: 0-for-5, K 3B Andres Chaparro: 0-for-1, 2 BB, HBP 2B Jamie Westbrook: 1-for-4, K 1B Jake Lamb: 1-for-3, BB, K LF Michael Hermosillo: 2-for-4, 2B (5), RS, K C Josh Breaux: 0-for-2, BB, HBP SS Jesus Bastidas: 1-for-3, BB, K, SB (10) Bastidas has 13 HR and 11 stolen bases between Somerset and Scranton. I think he has a chance to make it to MLB as a utility type – probably not with the Yankees. CF Nelson Medina: 0-for-4
RHP Clayton Beeter: 5 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 13 K Beeter sets a new personal best for strikeouts in a game. He owns a 5.40 ERA in 60 innings at this level (57 H, 37 R, 36 ER, 13 HR, 37 BB, 75 K). Overall, he owns a 151/68 K/BB over 120.2 IP. Unless they use him in a deal, Beeter is going to be protected from the Rule 5 draft this winter. Tonight, he featured two pitches in his 100-pitch effort: 49 sliders + 48 4-seam fastballs (three changeups). LHP Clay Aguilar: (L, 0-1) 2.1 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, HR Aguilar’s Triple-A debut. RHP Michael Gomez: 1.2 IP, 2 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, HR
Somerset (81-53; 39-27 in the second half) (Defeated New Hampshire, 6-2)
CF Elijah Dunham: 0-for-5, 3 K 1B T.J. Rumfield: 1-for-5, RS, 3 K C Agustin Ramirez: 1-for-4, 2B (6), RS Ramirez is hitting .217 with a .594 OPS in 130 PA since his promotion. DH Spencer Jones: 0-for-3, 2 RS, BB 2B Caleb Durbin: 1-for-3, 2B (12), 2 RBI, K If not for his injuries, Durbin easily steals 50+ bases this season. As is, he is 36-for-44 in 67 games. PH-2B Anthony Seigler: 0-for-0, RS, BB LF Grant Richardson: 2-for-4, HR (4), 3 RBI, RS Richardson is 17-for-45 since his promotion (1 double, 4 HR, 9 RBI, 9 R). His 17 HR between Hudson Valley and Somerset is a new personal best. He is a 24-year-old left-handed bat who has too much swing-and-miss in his profile to date – if he can clean that up, he has a chance. RF Jeisson Rosario: 0-for-4, 2 K 3B Eduardo Torrealba: 0-for-3, BB, K, 2 SB (4) SS Max Burt: 0-for-3, BB, 2 K
RHP Zach Messinger: 4.1 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 7 K, HR A nice Double-A debut for Messinger, who pitched to a 4.36 ERA in 97 innings for Hudson Valley (82 H, 13 HR, 53 BB, 113 K). LHP Ryan Anderson: 2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K RHP Harrison Cohen: 2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K Cohen’s Double-A debut. He pitched to a 3.86 ERA in 49 IP between Tampa and Hudson Valley (40 H, 23 R, 21 ER, 5 HR, 24 BB, 64 K)
Hudson Valley (70-62; 31-35 in the second half) (Defeated Jersey Shore, 6-2. The series is tied at 1-1. The decisive third game is tomorrow night)
3B Ben Cowles: 0-for-4 2B Jared Serna: 1-for-2, RBI, RS, 2 BB Serna was on his way to a 20/20/20 (doubles/HR/SB) season, but couldn’t put a ball over the fence after his promotion here. That said, he wasn’t overmatched here either. The full package is a kid who should break into Double-A at some point in 2024. DH Christopher Familia: 1-for-4, 2B (2), RBI, 2 K LF Jesus Rodriguez: 2-for-3, RS, BB, K, SB (1) Rodriguez is 4-for-7 in two playoff games. When you combine that with his regular season performance, he is hitting .315. I keep talking about this kid because I think performance still should matter. He has hit all season long at a young age while being asked to play four positions (C/1B/3B/LF). I simply cannot ignore that regardless of the Top 30 lists. LF Kyle Battle: 0-for-0 I hope this move was for defensive purposes only (as I have said before: In the playoffs, minor league managers can often be a little more “strategic”) 1B-C Rafael Flores: 1-for-2, RS, 2 BB, K RF Anthony Hall: 2-for-4, RBI, RS, K Hall struggled a bit after his promotion – good to see him compile a multi-hit game tongiht. SS Alexander Vargas: 1-for-4, 2 RBI, K C Antonio Gomez: 0-for-0 I am not sure why Gomez left the game early. 1B Spencer Henson: 2-for-4, 2B (1), HR (1), RBI, 2 RS, 2 K Not bad for a player who wasn’t in the starting lineup. CF Cole Gabrielson: 1-for-3, 2B (1), K
RHP Cam Schlittler: (W, 1-0) 5 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 5 K A strong performance by Schlittler, who tossed 46 regular season innings between the FCL/Tampa/Hudson Valley this year (professional debut season) RHP Osiel Rodriguez: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K Rodriguez has the talent to move quickly. He is still only 21 years old (if it feels he has been around forever, he has been – since he debuted in 2019). He just has to start putting the puzzle together. RHP Matt Keating: 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K
Tampa (61-69; 30-34 in the second half)
Their season is over.
FCL Yankees (35-22; 1-2 in the playoffs)
They lost to the Braves in the championship series. Their season is over.
DSL Yankees (33-19)
Their season is over, as they missed the playoffs by a half-game.
DSL Bombers (27-26)
Their season is over.

RHP Mitch Spence: 6 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 6 K 4.50 ERA (156 IP, 155 H, 86 R, 78 ER, 28 HR, 50 BB, 150 K) RHP Zac Houston: (W, 3-1) 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K RHP Aaron McGarity (S, 4): 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K
Somerset (82-53; 40-27 in the second half) (Defeated New Hampshire, 3-1)
SS Trey Sweeney: 0-for-4, BB, 2 K 1B Ben Rice: 0-for-3, 2 HBP, K, CS (3) Rice has 11 HBP in 71 games. He is hitting .324/.396/.638 in 212 PA at this level. C Agustin Ramirez: 0-for-3, RS, BB, 2 K At this level: .211/.276/.309 in 30 games. I stand by what I said when he was first promoted: I am not concerned about him struggling here. CF Spencer Jones: 2-for-4, HR (2), 2 RBI, RS, K, SB (7) Jones has 47 extra-base hits (28 doubles, 4 triples, 15 HR) and 42 stolen bases (53 attempts). Tonight’s HR was hit off of LHP Ricky Tiedemann, the top prospect in the Blue Jays system (Pipeline). No, he won’t be in the mix for the CF job in 2024 with Jasson Dominguez out – but a hot first half will get people talking. DH Mickey Gasper: 0-for-3, RS, BB, K, SB (8) LF Jeisson Rosario: 0-for-3, BB 3B Eduardo Torrealba: 1-for-4, RBI, 2 K RF Grant Richardson: 0-for-3, 2 K 2B Max Burt: 1-for-2, BB, 3 SB (21) Burt sets personal bests for both stolen bases in a game and in a season.
RHP Richard Fitts: (W, 11-5) 6.2 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 11 K Fitts sets a new personal best for strikeouts in a game (he struck out exactly ten batters three times this season). This is probably his last regular season start of 2023 unless they give him one up in Scranton. If it is, he posted a 3.48 ERA in 152.2 IP with a 163/43 K/BB. I would say that is something to build on and Fitts should be in the 2024 mix at some point. RHP Tanner Myatt: (S, 7) 2.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, HR
Hudson Valley (70-62; 31-35 in the second half) (Defeated Jersey Shore, 3-2, to win the best-of-3 series. They will play Greenville (BOS) in the championship series. It starts on Sunday)
3B Ben Cowles: 2-for-3, 3B (1), RBI, RS, BB A nice night for Cowles, who hit .254/.356/.393 in 444 regular-season plate appearances. He stole 23 bases in 27 attempts. 2B Jared Serna: 0-for-3, BB, CS (1) LF Jesus Rodriguez: 0-for-3, BB Rodriguez went 4-for-10 with two walks and only one strikeout in the series. DH Christopher Familia: 0-for-4, K 1B Spencer Henson: 0-for-4, 3 K C Rafael Flores: 2-for-3, 2 2B (2), 2 RS, K Flores went 4-for-8 with two doubles and three walks in the series. RF Anthony Hall: 1-for-3, 2 K SS Alexander Vargas: 0-for-2, SF, RBI CF Cole Gabrielson: 0-for-1, 2 BB
LHP Brock Selvidge: (W, 1-0) 6.2 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 7 K Selvidge pitched to a 3.45 ERA in 127.2 IP during the regular season between Tampa and Hudson Valley (116 H, 56 R, 49 ER, 5 HR, 35 BB, 137 K). He compiled a 25.5% K and 6.5% BB. In 2022, his BB% was 9.4. He is developing the way you would want him to develop and there isn’t a long line of left-handed starting pitching prospects in the system. RHP Cole Ayers: 0.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 0 K LHP Geoffrey Gilbert: (S, 1) 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K In a key moment in the 8th, Gilbert came out of the bullpen with the bases loaded and one out. He promptly struck out back-to-back hitters.
Tampa (61-69; 30-34 in the second half)
Their season is over.
FCL Yankees (35-22; 1-2 in the playoffs)
They lost to the Braves in the championship series. Their season is over.
DSL Yankees (33-19)
Their season is over, as they missed the playoffs by a half-game.
DSL Bombers (27-26)
Their season is over.

Yankees MILB 9/16: Grant Richardson Homers
POSTED ON SEPTEMBER 16, 2023 BY ADMIN News:
I have nothing interesting to report.
Scranton (69-72; 35-32 in the second half) (Lost to Buffalo, 3-2, in ten innings)
SS Wilmer Difo: 1-for-4, 2B (9), RS, BB, K DH Carlos Narvaez: 0-for-4, BB, 2 K Between here and Somerset: .244/.368/.399 in 383 PA (16 doubles, 11 HR, 39 RBI, 45 R, 57 BB (14.9%), 103 K (26.9%), 6-for-9 SB) RF Franchy Cordero: 0-for-3, BB 1B Andres Chaparro: 1-for-4, RBI .249/.337/.445 in 570 PA (21 doubles, 2 triples, 24 HR, 84 RBI, 77 R, 64 BB, 119 K, 4-for-4 SB) 2B Jamie Westbrook: 0-for-4, K 3B Jake Lamb: 0-for-2, 2 BB, K C Josh Breaux: 1-for-3, HR (2), RBI, RS, HBP Breaux has ten home runs overall this season. He has reached double digits in HR in four straight seasons. Nobody ever denied his power potential. LF Aaron Palensky: 1-for-2, BB, HBP, K, SB (1), CS (1) Palensky earns his first Triple-A hit and stolen base. Overall, he has 22 stolen bases in 24 attempts. CF Nelson Medina: 0-for-4, 3 K Medina is 0-for-15 since his promotion – even in a league filled with offense, it should come as no surprise that a kid who spent the year either injured or in Low-A would struggle after being placed in Triple-A.
LHP Edgar Barclay: 5 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 6 K, 2 HR At this level: 6.23 ERA (39 IP, 39 H, 30 R, 27 ER, 11 HR, 29 BB, 41 K). Other than two curveballs, Barclay was a two-pitch pitcher today. He threw 54% changeups and 43% 4-seamers. He averaged 89.6 with that pitch, topping out at 92.5. It is not about velocity with Barclay – and the fact remains that talent evaluation is tough at Triple-A. Has MLB considered fixing this issue? While some of the ballparks in Triple-A are going to produce more offense because of where they are located, there is no reason for the entire league to be souped up. LHP Josh Maciejewski: 1.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K LHP Matt Krook: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K 0.84 ERA (32 IP, 8 H, 6 R, 3 ER, 0 HR, 23 BB, 53 K). His BABIP is .167 – frankly, I thought it may even be lower than that. RHP Ron Marinaccio: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K RHP Jesus Liranzo (L, 0-2): 1 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 3 K
Somerset (83-53; 41-27 in the second half) (Defeated New Hampshire, 8-3)
SS Trey Sweeney: 2-for-3, RS, 2 BB, 2 SB (20) Sweeney is 51-for-61 stealing bases over the past two seasons (210 games) and is hitting .250 with a .774 OPS this season. Entering tonight, he owned a rather impressive 8.7% Swinging Strike. That is 4th best among Eastern League qualifiers. C Ben Rice: 1-for-4, 2B (13), 2 RS, BB Rice has 29 extra-base hits (13 doubles, 1 triple, 15 HR) in 47 games for Somerset. CF Spencer Jones: 2-for-4, 2B (1), RBI, 2 K, SB (8; 43rd overall), CS (3) Jones swatted 28 doubles in 100 games for Hudson Valley. This is his first double since his promotion (16 games). 1B T.J. Rumfield: 1-for-4, SF, 2 RBI It has been a tough go for Rumfield after his rehab stint, as he is 6-for-34 with zero home runs and five runs batted in. Before his injury, he swatted 17 homers in 71 games. DH Caleb Durbin: 1-for-5, RBI RF Elijah Dunham: 1-for-4, HR (10), RBI, RS, BB Dunham has 16 HR and 34 stolen bases between Somerset and Scranton. He is Rule 5 eligible and could be selected – he offers value as a #4-#5 outfielder potentially. 2B Anthony Seigler: 2-for-4, HR (5), RBI, 2 RS Unless something crazy happens tomorrow, Seigler will walk more than he strikes out for the second year in a row. Last year, the ratio was 91/82. This year, the ratio is 53/48. LF Grant Richardson: 1-for-4, HR (5), 2 RBI, RS, K Richardson has five home runs in 15 games since his promotion (13 HR in 77 games for Hudson Valley). The left-handed hitting prospect has shown some pop and the Yankees have another year of evaluation as he isn’t Rule 5 eligible until after 2024. 3B Eduardo Torrealba: 1-for-4, RS
RHP Yoendrys Gomez: 4.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 7 K Gomez finishes the regular season with a 3.58 ERA in 65.1 IP (47 H, 27 R, 25 ER, 6 HR, 37 BB, 78 K). Gomez has been on the 40-man roster for a while now but might be out of minor league options next spring (sometimes, a player “earns” an extra option so we’ll see if that applies to Gomez). If the clock has run out, the Yankees have a talented arm with an injury history to make a decision on. Unlike Estevan Florial last spring, Gomez will not pass through waivers if the Yankees attempted to do that. RHP Carlos Gomez (W, 2-1): 2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER,, 2 BB, 1 K, HR At this level: 3.86 ERA in 14 IP (8 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 9 BB, 17 K). Overall, the 25-year-old owns an 81/40 K/BB over 63 IP. He was signed all the way back in 2018. RHP Anderson Munoz: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K RHP Bailey Dees: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K Since promotion: 21 IP, 17 H, 11 R, 10 ER, 1 HR, 12 BB, 18 K
Hudson Valley (70-62; 31-35 in the second half)
Their championship series against Greenville starts tomorrow. It is a best-of-3 and Greenville has home field advantage (Game 1 in Hudson Valley, final two games in Greenville)
Tampa (61-69; 30-34 in the second half)
Their season is over.
FCL Yankees (35-22; 1-2 in the playoffs)
They lost to the Braves in the championship series. Their season is over.
DSL Yankees (33-19)
Their season is over, as they missed the playoffs by a half-game.
DSL Bombers (27-26)
Their season is over.

Yankees MILB 9/17: Will Warren Ks 10
POSTED ON SEPTEMBER 17, 2023 BY ADMIN News:
I have nothing interesting to report.
Scranton (70-72; 36-32 in the second half) (Defeated Buffalo, 7-6, in 12 innings. They still have one week left in the season)
C Carlos Narvaez: 0-for-4, 2 BB RF Franchy Cordero: 1-for-4, RBI, 2 BB, K, SB (8) 3B Andres Chaparro: 0-for-5, SF, RBI, RS, 2 K Chaparro is up to 85 RBI. 15 RBI in six games is a tall task if he wants to reach 100, but his season will go down as a productive one. 1B Josh Breaux: 2-for-5, RS DH Jake Lamb: 1-for-4, RS, BB, 3 K SS Jesus Bastidas: 3-for-5, 2 2B (13), RBI, RS, 2 K I like utility types that show some pop, which is why I have bullish tendencies with Bastidas. He won’t be a star – he may be nothing more than an up-and-down guy. But I do think he makes MLB. LF Aaron Palensky: 1-for-3, HR (1), 3 RBI, RS, 2 BB Palensky’s HR in the top of the 9th tied the score at 4. He has 21 home runs between here, Somerset, and Hudson Valley. 2B Wilmer Difo: 0-for-5, K CF Nelson Medina: 0-for-4, 2 RS, BB, K, CS (1)
RHP Frankie Montas: 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K Montas featured all four of his pitches, maxing out at 96.1 MPH. While he is intriguing and you can never have enough pitching, I think they move on from Montas this winter. They have young arms who are ready to contribute + they will seemingly be heavily involved in negotiations for Japanese RHP Yoshinobu Yamamoto. RHP Will Warren: 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 10 K Sometimes, I worry when a starter follows up a rehabbing player – but it certainly didn’t impact Warren today. This is his first career double-digit strikeout performance. In September, the 24-year-old is dominating, pitching to a 0.38 ERA in 23.2 IP (10 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 9 BB, 29 K). Overall, for Scranton, he owns a 3.71 ERA in 94.2 IP (78 H, 49 R, 39 ER, 45 BB, 103 K). Unless they bring him up to the big leagues now, he is in line for one more start this season. RHP Michael Gomez: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K RHP Matt Bowman: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K RHP Zach Greene : 1 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, HR RHP Aaron McGarity: 1.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K LHP Clay Aguilar (W, 1-1): 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K Aguilar appears to be a slider/change-up heavy reliever.
Somerset (84-53; 42-27 in the second half) (Closed out their regular season with a 7-1 win over New Hampshire. Their playoff journey starts on Tuesday against Binghamton)
SS Trey Sweeney: 2-for-5, 2B (20), 2 RS, K .252/.367/.411 in 472 PA (20 doubles, 2 triples, 13 HR, 49 RBI, 67 R, 65 BB, 90 K, 20-for-27 SB). The injury sucked but 472 plate appearances is more than enough for evaluation. DH Ben Rice: 2-for-4, HR (16), 3 RBI, RS, BB Between all levels, Rice finishes (assuming he doesn’t go to Scranton) his regular season with 20 homers, 68 RBI, and 62 runs scored in only 73 games. CF Spencer Jones: 3-for-5, HR (3), 2 RBI, RS, K Jones compiles three straight multi-hit games to close out his regular season. In his last ten games, he went 15-for-42 (.357) to help him finish his Somerset campaign at .261 with a .739 OPS. C Agustin Ramirez: 1-for-5, 2B (7), K Why don’t I worry much about Ramirez’s slump after coming to this level? He struck out 19.4% of the time after his promotion. Overall, he struck out 17.3% of the time this season. Yes, it spiked a bit for Somerset but it is not outrageous – he seemingly was not overwhelmed here. 1B T.J. Rumfield: 1-for-4, 2B (14), 2 K 1B Mickey Gasper: 0-for-1, K 2B Caleb Durbin: 2-for-5, RS Durbin hit .304/.395/.427 with 36 stolen bases in 69 games between here and Hudson Valley. RF Elijah Dunham: 1-for-4, 2B (13), RBI, RS, K, SB (23) Dunham has 25 doubles and 35 stolen bases between here and Scranton. It has to be at least somewhat frustrating that he wasn’t able to get off to a strong start in 2023, as the Yankees could have deployed him in their much-depleted OF at some point. 3B Max Burt: 0-for-4, K LF Jeisson Rosario: 1-for-2, RS, 2 BB, K
RHP Matt Sauer: (W, 6-4) 6.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 9 K, HR For Somerset: 3.42 ERA in 68.1 IP (49 H, 27 R, 26 ER, 11 HR, 29 BB, 83 K). He had a strong finish and I don’t know if he will slip through the Rule 5 again. RHP Jack Neely: 0.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K For Somerset: 2.55 ERA in 17.2 IP (12 H, 9 R, 5 ER, 4 HR, 3 BB, 26 K). Overall, Neely put together a 100/20 in 66.1 IP between here and Hudson Valley. LHP Ryan Anderson: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K RHP Harrison Cohen: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
Hudson Valley (70-62; 31-35 in the second half) (Lost to Greenville, 2-0, in Game 1. They will once again need to sweep two games. The difference this time is that they are going on the road instead of heading home. In Game 1, a bout of wildness by a pair of relievers cost them – Greenville scored two runs without the benefit of a hit in the 6th)
3B Ben Cowles: 0-for-3, HBP, K 2B Jared Serna: 1-for-4 DH Christopher Familia: 1-for-4, K LF Jesus Rodriguez: 0-for-4 1B Spencer Henson: 0-for-3, 3 K C Rafael Flores: 0-for-2, BB RF Anthony Hall: 0-for-3, K SS Alexander Vargas: 0-for-3, 2 K CF Cole Gabrielson: 0-for-1, 2 BB, K As you can see, offense was a big issue today…
RHP Jackson Fristoe: 4 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K A nice High-A debut for Fristoe. Yes, the minor league playoffs are built differently (LOL) – a youngster making his level debut in Game 1 of the championship series is likely not all that uncommon. Anyway, Fristoe’s calling card is his ability to throw the baseball fast. We don’t have Savant data for today, but one has to be impressed with the stat line. RHP Baron Stuart: (L, 0-1) 1 IP, 0 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 3 K RHP Sebastian Keane: 0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K RHP Osiel Rodriguez: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K Rodriguez is throwing well as the season comes to a close… RHP Luis Arejula: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K Arejula’s High-A debut.
Tampa (61-69; 30-34 in the second half)
Their season is over.
FCL Yankees (35-22; 1-2 in the playoffs)
They lost to the Braves in the championship series. Their season is over.
DSL Yankees (33-19)
Their season is over, as they missed the playoffs by a half-game.
DSL Bombers (27-26)
Their season is over.

Yankees MILB 9/20: Drew Thorpe Wins Player of the Year
POSTED ON SEPTEMBER 20, 2023 BY ADMIN News:
C Rodolfo Duran was placed on the 7-day injured list today. Meanwhile, the Railriders added a couple of bodies, bringing up OF Kyle Battle and IF Ben Cowles from Hudson Valley. The Renegades’ season ended last night.
The 23-year-old Cowles hit .254/.356/.393 (109 wRC+) in 444 plate appearances in High-A.He was 23-for-27 in the stolen base department while playing second base and shortstop. The Yankees drafted him in the 10th round in the 2021 draft out of Maryland.
Battle has played in only 15 games this season, going 3-for-34 with a home run.
Baseball America named RHP Drew Thorpe as the Yankees Minor League Player of the Year. Thorpe (22) pitched to a 2.52 ERA (3.05 FIP) over 139.1 innings with a 34% K and 7.1% BB. He is the leader in all of MILB with 182 strikeouts and 26.9% K-BB%. His season ended early due to an injury to his non-throwing arm. He will receive a spring training invite in 2024 and should make his debut at some point during the season. There is no reason to hold him back based on his Rule 5 status (he isn’t eligible until after the 2025 season). If he is still in the minors at that point, something went wrong.
Scranton (71-73; 37-33 in the second half) (Lost to Syracuse, 14-3)
C Carlos Narvaez: 1-for-5, RBI, 2 K RF Franchy Cordero: 0-for-3, BB RF Kyle Battle: 0-for-0, BB Battle earns himself a walk in his first Triple-A plate appearance. 2B Jamie Westbrook: 0-for-5 1B Andres Chaparro: 0-for-4, K 3B Jake Lamb: 1-for-4, RS DH Josh Breaux: 0-for-4, 2 K LF Aaron Palensky: 1-for-3, 2B (1), RS, BB, 2 K Palensky has 20 doubles, 21 HR, and 22 SB between Hudson Valley, Somerset, and Scranton. He is 3-for-15 since his promotion with a double, home run, and five walks. SS Wilmer Difo: 2-for-4, 2B (10), RBI, RS, K CF Nelson Medina: 1-for-4, RBI
RHP Zac Houston: 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, HR A spot start for the 28-year-old. He owns a 4.78 ERA for Scranton with a 44/15 K/BB over 26.1 IP. RHP Aaron McGarity: (L, 6-4) 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, HR RHP Jesus Liranzo: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 1 K The 28-year-old can dial it up (hit 98.7 MPH on the gun tonight; averaged 96.4 MPH). If you throw hard, you will always get a look. However, Liranzo has yet to make his MLB debut, mostly because his walk rates are rather extreme. LHP Clay Aguilar: 0.2 IP, 3 H, 6 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 0 K RHP Michael Gomez: 1.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K RHP Ron Marinaccio: 0.1 IP, 4 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 2 BB, 0 K It’s been a rather frustrating season for Marinaccio, who pitched to a 2.05 ERA (3.20 FIP) in 40 games for the Yankees in 2022. Walks and the gopher ball (a lethal combination) hurt him in 2023. We’ll see if he can find a way to rebound next year. RHP Jesus Bastidas: 0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K The utility infielder makes his second appearance on the hill.
Somerset (84-53; 42-27 in the second half)
The Patriots currently trail Binghamton in their best-of-three series, 1-0. The series continues on Thursday.
Hudson Valley (70-62; 31-35 in the second half)
They lost to Greenville in the championship series. Their season is over.
Tampa (61-69; 30-34 in the second half)
Their season is over.
FCL Yankees (35-22; 1-2 in the playoffs)
They lost to the Braves in the championship series. Their season is over.
DSL Yankees (33-19)
Their season is over. They missed the playoffs by a half-game.
DSL Bombers (27-26)
Their season is over.

Yankees MILB 9/22: Edgar Barclay Ks 8
POSTED ON SEPTEMBER 22, 2023 BY ADMIN News:
The Yankees have promoted RHP Yoendrys Gomez from Somerset to the big league roster. He is the first player to ever be promoted directly from Somerset to the big leagues. Keep in mind that Somerset didn’t become an MLB affiliate until 2021.
Gomez, who has been on the 40-man roster since 2020, has dealt with injuries in his career. He has logged only 275 innings since his debut season (2017), and this year’s 65.1 innings are his personal best. In those innings, he has a 3.58 ERA (3.83 FIP) with a 28.5% K and 13.5% BB.
According to Fangraphs, this is Gomez’s last option year. That said, we thought 2022 was Deivi Garcia‘s last option year – only to discover that MLB granted the Yankees an additional option for 2023. That isn’t done out of the goodness of their hearts – criteria need to be met and all that jazz.
If it is his final year, a big winter/spring is coming up. Let’s get this out of the way: Gomez is not going to be in the 2024 Opening Day rotation. Cross that thought out of your mind – if he isn’t traded, his best bet to make the squad in 2024 would be out of the bullpen. He has the stuff that would carry well in the bullpen. There are questions about whether he can handle a starter’s workload anyway.
The AFL rosters were announced today. The Yankees will be playing for Mesa but you aren’t going to see any of their top names playing. It is good to see that RHP Trystan Vrieling (#17 prospect according to Pipeline) will get some work in. He was drafted in 2022 but was unable to make his debut in 2023 due to injury.. The other players on the list aren’t going to jump out at you, though IF Caleb Durbin had a standout 2023 season that was marred by an injury. RHP Kevin Stevens got his feet wet in 2022 but didn’t appear in 2023. He was an undrafted free agent signing. UTIL Ben Cowles played mostly at Hudson Valley in 2023, promoted to Scranton after the Renegades were eliminated. While there isn’t much buzz around RHP Nolberto Henriquez, I checked out Savant after he was promoted to Tampa. He was throwing hard sinkers, which is something the current Yankees’ regime seems to like. It doesn’t shock me that they want to give him more innings after he tossed only 30.2 in 2023 with mixed results. OF Nelson Medina dealt with injuries for most of the season. He is getting some extra at-bats in Scranton as their season comes to a close – perhaps the promotions to Scranton should have hinted to us who was going to Arizona. It doesn’t seem like a coincidence that Cowles and Medina were promoted and are now on their way to Arizona. RHP Baron Stuart was signed as an undrafted free agent out of Pitt. Unlike others on the list, he threw a good number of innings (100.2) in his debut professional season. I guess it is a good sign for him that they want him to throw more before he shuts down for the year.
Scranton (71-75; 37-35 in the second half) (Lost to Syracuse, 4-3, in ten innings). As for the last two games of the season, the weather up in Syracuse is actually not forecasted to be bad this weekend. There could be some rain on Sunday evening/night, but hopefully, it stays away during the afternoon.
C Carlos Narvaez: 0-for-4, BB, K RF Franchy Cordero: 1-for-5, RS, K 3B Jamie Westbrook: 2-for-4, 2B (20), BB, 2 K The minor league veteran reaches 20 doubles/20 home runs for the first time in his career. DH Andres Chaparro: 1-for-5, 2B (24), RBI, 3 K Chaparro is up to 88 RBI. The last Yankees’ prospect to reach 90 RBI was Peter O’Brien, who drove home 96 runs back in 2013. O’Brien would eventually play in 72 MLB games (most recently with the Marlins in 2019), hitting .209/.275/.434 with 11 home runs in 200 plate appearances. 1B Mike Lamb: 1-for-4, RS SS Jesus Bastidas: 1-for-3, HR (12), 2 RBI, RS, BB, K Bastidas’ 2023 numbers are pretty much right in line with his 2022 numbers. Between here and Somerset, he has 15 homers, 44 RBI, 64 runs, 40 walks, and 105 strikeouts in 445 plate appearances, Last year, playing only for Somerset, he hit .240/.323/.427 in 453 plate appearances (18 HR, 55 RBI, 56 R, 38 BB, 115 K, 11-for-18 SB) LF Aaron Palensky: 0-for-4, 2 K LF Ben Cowles: 0-for-0 I think Cowles was brought into the game in the 10th inning to give Scranton an extra infielder when the winning run was on third with nobody out. 2B Wilmer Difo: 0-for-4, 2 K CF Nelson Medina: 2-for-4 Medina is 5-for-36 since his promotion. He started off 0-for-19, so it is nice to see him get some hits before the season comes to a close.
LHP Edgar Barclay: 5.1 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 8 K A solid final effort for Barclay, who is pitching to a 5.89 ERA in 44.1 IP since his promotion to Scranton. Prior to that, he compiled a 1.32 ERA in 34 IP for Somerset. All of his games (11) were relief appearances for Somerset, while his ten appearances for Scranton are all starts. He doesn’t throw hard (max fastball was 90.7 tonight, and he averaged 88.7), but he has solid secondary offerings that allow him to be a tantalizing MLB prospect. I don’t expect him to be a starter, but there is no harm in developing him as a Swiss-army knife type of pitcher. LHP Matt Krook: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K LHP Josh Maciejewski: 1.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 1 K RHP Michael Gomez: (L, 2-6) 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 K

They lost to Binghamton in the semi-finals. Their season is over.
Hudson Valley (70-62; 31-35 in the second half)
They lost to Greenville in the championship series. Their season is over.
Tampa (61-69; 30-34 in the second half)
Their season is over.
FCL Yankees (35-22; 1-2 in the playoffs)

Yankees MILB 9/23: Will Warren Finishes Strong
POSTED ON SEPTEMBER 23, 2023 BY ADMIN News:
The end is near.
Scranton (72-75; 38-35 in the second half) (Defeated Syracuse, 6-4)
RF Franchy Cordero: 3-for-5, 2B (14), 2 RBI, 2 RS C Carlos Narvaez: 2-for-4, 2B (13), HR (10), 3 RBI, 2 RS, HBP The Yankees have a lot of catching on the 40-man roster as is, so it is hard to imagine that they will find a 40-man slot for Narvaez this winter. That said, no team wants to allow a developed catcher (even if said catcher has a backup ceiling) to get away for nothing. I view him as a prime trade candidate prior to the 40-man roster deadline. At this level, he is hitting .242 with a .766 OPS (13 doubles, 10 HR, 39 RBI, 40 R, 57 BB (16.1%), 91 K (25.6%)) DH Jamie Westbrook: 1-for-3, 2 BB, 2 K 1B Jake Lamb: 2-for-5, 2B (9), RBI, 2 K SS Jesus Bastidas: 0-for-4, BB, K LF Aaron Palensky: 0-for-5, 2 K 2B Wilmer Difo: 1-for-4, RS, BB, K 3B Ben Cowles: 1-for-4, K CF Nelson Medina: 1-for-4, RS, 2 K
RHP Frankie Montas: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K Montas maxed out at 95.2 MPH (4-seamer) and averaged 94 MPH with his sinker. His Yankees’ career will be far from memorable. RHP Will Warren: (W, 7-4) 5 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 7 K For Scranton: 3.61 ERA in 99.2 IP (83 H, 50 R, 40 ER, 15 HR, 47 BB, 110 K). This followed up a solid 29.1 innings to start the season for Somerset. The home runs in Triple-A are high, but he didn’t allow any homers in September (28.2 IP, 15 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 HR, 11 BB, 36 K). Warren features a 5-pitch mix (including both a sweeper and a slider), is not afraid to use any of them, and generates a solid number of ground balls (entering tonight, his GB% for Scranton: 51.8%). He will be a strong contender to make the team out of spring training next year. Does a 24-year-old (25 next June) really need more than 100 Triple-A innings? I would say the answer to that question should be rather obvious: NO! RHP Aaron McGarity: 1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K I don’t write often about McGarity, but one has to appreciate the grind. He was drafted in the 15th round out of Virginia Tech back in 2017 and is now 28 years old. This year, he pitched in 51 games (69.2 IP), compiling a 5.17 ERA and 72/27 K/BB. RHP Zac Houston: 0.2 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 2 K RHP Jesus Liranzo (S, 1): 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K
