and thats y i questioned these measurements .....i never seen anybody hit the ball like stanton and judge and the measurement comes back...430 feet .....what? .....i loved the mick but how can it be that he was hitting balls further then these guys......they're bigger ...;stronger and t he equipment is better.....smh You think those measurements in the old stadium were up for decades and nobody figured out that they were wrong? And they would have had to have been wrong by a lot to support your theory. So 461 was really 400 or whatever. And we know that they moved the left-centerfield fence in by a lot when they renovated in the '70's. You think the measurements in the new stadium were wrong too? I don't buy it. I think the old guys were really that good. No of course not. I just think the way they r calculating hrs today can't be right. It defies logic that guys back then could hit a ball as far as the guys today.

I think it's clear that guys back in 40's and 50's could hit 450 to 500 feet. There's just too much evidence to dismiss. That doesn't mean that those guys could necessarily hit as far as Judge. Judge is just getting started. Before he's done, he might hit one 600 feet.

Maybe...but in every sport athletes are bigger, stronger, faster, better trained with better diet and coaching, they can work out with a personal trainer in the off season instead of clocking in at a car dealership or insurance company to make ends meet...the traveling conditions (except maybe cross country flights) are superior....etc, etc. So this begs the question...how can I believe the guys 50 years ago could hit it as far as today's players? Doesn't make sense to me.

I'm still of the opinion that alot of long HRs (back then and now) hit a wall or other obstacle before they hit the ground, and the way they're estimating how long it WOULD have gone unimpeded has changed significantly in the last several years. NO WAY that guys like Stanton and Judge are not hitting balls harder and farther than Micky or DiMaggio or Williams.
Claiming that DiMaggio was the size of Torreyes is beyond foolish.

I can boast of hitting a few 300 foot plus drives....with a 3 wood no less. Of course...I'm not quick to point out they hit the cart path on the fly....took quite a hop!

you serious with this? I don't care what his bio says or where his bio is printed...you think each of those sites went and measured him? haha ill generously give you 5-8...and he was rail thin. whats a skinny 5-8 guy weigh? ill go 170 (generously)...btw...I was at spring training years ago and watching the Yankees hit on the back field...Jeter and AROD were talking in left center and this little black guy goes over to them and stands in between them- jeter playfully puts his arm on the guys head like hes an armrest. The guy isn't even up to arod's nipples...the round ends and the three come in- its arod, jeter, and Reggie Jackson. the fact that athlete bios as it relates to height and weight, are all BS is the worst kept secret from anyone...I guess that hasn't made it out to the Smoky Mountains yet

If Joe was 5'8" then that means Mantle was 5'6"? Please! And if you scroll down to see the pic of Joe with his brother, that means Dom (who was listed at 5'9") must have been shorter than Muggsy Bogues.
I have met and had conversations twice with Reggie. I stood facing him, virtually nose-to-nose and I am not under 6 ft tall let's just say. If Jackson was up to "ARod's nipples" then that must mean that Alex, rather then actually being 6'3" as listed, must be 7 feet tall.
You must think we are all either stupid or blind....maybe both....please stop with the silliness.

Reggie is 71. People shrink as they age.
Bbt met George Foster a couple years ago, and couldn't believe how small he was. But, again...the dude is in his 70s.

Not saying some listed stats are not suspect, especially in basketball. I can assure all of you that Charles Barkley was never, ever 6'6", having stood next to him. Kevin Johnson 6'1"? Nope. I talked with both of them while they were Suns. But Bob Lanier 6'10"? Of yeah...I met him at a St Bonny frat party while we both were playing college hoops and he was every inch of that! And had the biggest hands and feet I have ever shaken or laid eyes on!

Had shrunk a couple inches at that age since I'm assuming this wasn't when you were in pre-school. First fight was in 1980, when Joe would have been 65 (and Mikey was 24), had probably shrunk some by then. Third fight was in 1989, when Joe was 74, almost certainly had lost a couple of inches.
